This week Alan Altizer sits down with us as a follow up to last week podcast on marginal wind in mountainous terrain. This week we discuss how to use marginal winds in flat terrain. The features may be more subtle and have different factors to influence micro wind currents, but they are there! Learning how to use them can be key to figuring out how to take advantage of a mature animals weakness, and how to create an opportunity!

This week we sit down with our buddy Alan Altizer for a deep dive into utilizing marginal winds to hunt mature bucks. Alan goes in depth explaining this much overlooked tactic, and explains the advantages along with all the little details you should consider when exploiting this to get close to that bruiser buck! If you haven't heard, our buddy Nathan Killen is officially part of the crew now! Nathan has been a great buddy of ours for a while now and has always been a big part of what we do at The Stickboys, and now he's official! This week we catch up and talk about the upcoming season, some things we've got in the works, and dive into some of the subtleties of mature buck behavior.

This week we had the extreme pleasure to sit down with the one and only Larry D Jones of Oregon. Larry is 79 years young and has a literal lifetime's experience of bowhunting, and is still getting after it to this day. We talk about his recent scouting trips for his upcoming elk hunt, as well as a much anticipated opportunity to chase Alaskan/Yukon moose this coming fall! Larry started bowhunting in 1961. Back then if you bowhunted, you did so with a recurve or longbow because that's all there was. Over the years Larry has held to his passions and has enjoyed chasing critters all across North America and the dark continent of Africa. Great visit with a great gentleman!

This week Nathan Killen joins in on the other side of the mic to chat with our good friend Alan Altizer about heading west to chase elk. Alan goes over some great things for the new elk hunter to consider, from the perspective of an eastern mountain whitetail guy with a lot of western experience as well. If you're thinking about getting your feet wet in the elk hunting game you should really check this one out!

This week our buddy Aaron Miller joins us for another Woodsmanship episode. Aaron is an outstanding traditional bowhunter. But more importantly, Aaron is a hardcore student of the whitetail and is extremely detailed about collecting data and learning from his encounters. On this episode, Aaron dives deep into scrapes and moss position, as opposed to moon phase. On this episode the Ethan's sit down with Trent Wengerd of Wengerd Archery. Trent has done some pretty amazing adventuring with bow in hand and this week he shares some of those tales with us. If you like good hunting stories, you'll want to check this one out! If you don't like good bow hunting stories..... well.... who doesn't like good bow hunting stories?!!

This episode we sit down with our ol'buddy Tom Jenkins of Zipper Bows. Tom is a heck of a hunter with a wall full of big whitetails to prove it, but more importantly he's a great guy to share camp with, shoot the bull with, and have as a friend. We chat about some past hunting trips, big bucks, and quite a bit of good natured ribbing!

This week we sit down with our buddy Jake Downs. We've had a lot of comments recently from guys wanting to hear about how to get started making your first out of state or "adventure hunt". We couldn't think of a better guy to talk to than Jake! Just a normal guy talking to normal guys about how to get started down that path. Great conversation with a hardworking, family oriented, regular Joe that loves to bowhunt!

This week we sit down with our friend Ryan Rothhaar. Ryan grew up learning the intricacy's of whitetail habits from one of the most knowledgeable hunters to ever pick up a stickbow. We discuss keeping the main thing - the main thing and how fundamentals a basics kill deer. Just like in sports, you always fall back on the basics, and hunting mature bucks is no different. This episode is full of great tidbits of information that you'll definitely want to store away for the upcoming fall!

This week Dalton sits down with our ol'buddy Clay Epperson. If you follow Clay you'll know that he's heck on swine!! Clay spends a lot of time slipping the through the inky blackness of the East Texas Piney Woods and this week, he and Dalton dive deep into what it takes to get an arrow in a wild pig at night with a stickbow!

This week Ethan and Josh sit down with good friend Norm Johnson. Norm is a longtime PBS member and has served as councilman and vice president, as well as president. He is the founder of Blacktail Bows, and living in Reedsport, Oregon, is an avid blacktail deer and Roosevelt Elk hunter. We discuss chasing blacktails, rocky mountain elk, Roosevelt elk, and high country mule deer! Good times and a great conversation with one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet!

This week we sit catch up with Bubba Graves and Ben Pinney on their recent Alaskan adventure for bears. These guys have been friends for many years and as is so typical through the PBS, have shared some pretty epic adventures. This one however, very well may take the cake! Join us as Ben and Bubba give us a play by play on their recent trip for both brown and black bear in the land of the midnight sun. The kill is always icing on the cake, but as Bubba puts it, "it sure is some sweet icing!"

The traditional bow hunting community is full of great people, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better guy than Nick, and he's as down to earth as they come. Nick has put his time in with a bow and arrow chasing game, but after only three short years he's been able to make the transition into strictly trad and has become a phenomenal shot with he recurve as well. Dalton and Ethan H. sit down with Nick to talk about making the change, and of course season this episode heavily with a good hearty dose of stick bow hunting!

This week we sit down with Dick and Yote Robertson for a great conversation! We discuss raising kids in the outdoors, sons "passing the torch" back to their dads in time, hunting Dall Sheep, and striking while the iron is hot! It's a great visit with a couple of genuinely great guys that love traditional bowhunting as much as anyone, and after decades still have the burning desire! Tune and and enjoy!

This week we sit down with our buddies Vance Henry and Eric McKee and discuss their upcoming Alaskan Moose Adventure. Eric and Vance hatched an idea of heading North to pursue the massive Alaskan/Yukon Moose at a recent PBS banquet. While these guys are very experienced bowhunters with a lot of adventurous hunts under their belts, this will be their first trip into the land of the midnight sun. We discuss the obstacles they've had to overcome thus far in the planning stages. Vance and Eric will join us again to update us throughout the journey as we tag along and see what we can glean from this adventure. This week we sit down with Mike Mitten of Herd Bull Productions. Mike is a highly successful traditional bowhunter, author, video producer, and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. We Mike's passion for solo hunting wilderness and cover a variety of aspects including self reliance, woodsmanship, mental toughness, spiritual rejuvenation, balance, and family. This is a great conversation and if you hunt solo, dream about it, or just want to hear about it, you'll definitely enjoy this episode!

You'd be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable bowhunter when it comes to turkey than Joey Buchanan. Joey has chased wild turkeys all across the country and Mexico, and he's completed the grand slam with, and without a blind, and with a bow and calls of his own making. He has done all of this because of his love of hunting wild turkey with a traditional bow and arrow, precisely our kind of guy! If you hunt turkey with a stickbow, or want to... you definitely don't want to miss this one!

This week we sit down to chat with our old buddy Jim Eeckhout. Jim is the exactly the kind of guy we had in mind when we launched the podcast! He's down to earth, humble, and an absolute killer with a stickbow. Jim has had some pretty incredible adventure and he does it the way it should be done, for the love bowhunting. Jim's long track record of successful bow hunts speaks for itself and it was a pleasure, as always, to sit down and chat with him!

This week we sit down with a living legend in traditional bowhunting and traditional archery, Ron LaClair. Ron is one of the pioneers of the sport we all cherish, and has seen a few things along the way! Ron has had a direct hand in the founding of everything from state and national organizations, to national shoots that are attended by thousands each year. Ron shares stories from the early days of bowhunting and what it was like to "hunt the hard way" from the early days. If you love traditional bowhunting, or just bowhunting period, Ron is one of the many guys that has paved the way to what we all hold so dear! This week we sit down with Scott Glisson. Scott is a Wildlife Officer and has spent many years teaching tracking skills to law enforcement all across the country. Scott is also a traditional bowhunter and we dive deep into all that experience and how it relates to woodsmanship and finding animals. Scott hits on several things that probably never occur to most of us. We can all be better trackers and this episodes definitely points that out! You don't want to miss this one!

On this episode Dalton and Ethan sit down with Logan Glassburn of Ohio. Logan has taken some incredible bucks including a true 200+ inch giant. At the same time, he still gets the passion and excitement from an encounter with a young buck or doe, our kind of guy!! Logan has an easy going nature and like all successful bow hunters we know, spends a ton of time in the field learning everything he can about mature deer! We have a little technical difficulty and loose Ethan, but Logan and Dalton carry on and its a great conversation between guys that just love to be in the woods, bow in hand!

Ethan sits down with Nathan and Jason on a recent scouting trip in the mountains of Virginia to swap hunting stories. The tent stove kept the low temps at bay as the guys tell stories of funny hunts, scouting for mountain bucks, and a little bit of everything in between!

This week Ethan sits down with Bryan Burkhardt and Chris Parrino at the Pre-Spring Arrow Fling at Buck Hollow Bowhunters in Tennessee. It's always great to catch up with old friends, and we chat about the importance of recognizing the history of bowhunting, the personal fulfillment of making your own adventures, what bowhunting should be and what it is not, and of course some good old fashioned bowhunting stories!

On this episode, Ethan catches up with Gary Renfro of Colorado. Gary has had a lifetime of adventures in the Colorado high country, and beyond. From chasing Alaskan caribou to the goats and sheep of Colorado's high country, to a up close and personal experience with hunting mountain lions one on one without the help of hounds, Gary has done a ton. This week we catch up with Connie Renfro of Colorado. Connie is one of the most accomplished bowhunters there is. She's been successful on hunts most of us dream of! If you've been around tradbow hunting for a while you will undoubtedly remember the great article she's penned for Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. It was great to chat with her about her beginnings and some of the many adventures she's had along the way. And from caribou to big horns, she's had some great ones! Connie also offers us a unique perspective not only from the standpoint of a highly successful bowhunter, but from the aspect of not growing up in a hunting family and being a lady bowhunter. One of our favorites for sure, you don't want to miss this one!

On this episode our buddy Josh Overcash joins Dalton on a roadtrip to South Georgia in pursuit of hogs. It's a daily journal of the trip down and back, each days hunts, and of course well seasoned with a lot of funny stories along the way. Mike talks about building special bows for hunts, special bows from friends, how his trapping background has helped his own bowhunting and woodsmanship skills, and as always a healthy dose of bowhunting adventure mixed in! We even dabble into favorite recipes!

"It ain't the years... it's the miles..." and as eluded to in this episode, Barry has seen a lot of miles in his time! Uncle Barry sits down with us this week and he tells us about everything from whitetails to warthogs. As usual, there are plenty of laughs along the way from this modern day icon of bowhunting and we enjoyed every second of it! This week we sit down with M. R. James. M. R. has been around for a bit and has seen a ton! M. R. founded Bowhunter Magazine 50 years ago, back when information on bowhunting was awfully hard to find. There's no telling how many of us romping around the woods with a bow have ben influenced by Bowhunter Magazine. M.R. is still getting after it after all these years and is still making it happen!
