Since we’ve announced we’re going to preview the Astros Spring Training roster the Astros roster has been in flux! Since just last week the Astros have traded RHP Ryan Pressly and are in negotiations with 3B Alex Bregman and IF Jorge Polanco. So of course, this makes it the perfect time to breakdown the Astros infield going into Spring Training. But folks, the infield is looking good. Let’s take a look at the projected infield. P.S. I didn’t really talk too much about the non-roster invitees because most of the attention is on how the pros shake out. But we are excited to see Brice Matthews and Cam Smith this year as well as Jesus Bastidas, Tommy Sacco Jr and Zack Short; even if they are all even more of long shots to make the team with another veteran potentially joining the roster. Right after I posted my Astros outfielders podcast episode the world blew up with news about a story that I felt was fake: potential left fielder Jose Altuve. Per Chandler Rome and Bob Nightengale, the Astros have been pushing to resign Bregman. They have also been pushing to find a trade partner for Ryan Pressly to help create cap space to sign Bregman. However, the stumbling block is, firstly: Press has a no-trade-clause. Whatever trade the Astros can dream up can be squashed if Press doesn’t want to go. That’s what he negotiated for. You can’t hate that. And secondly: if we re-sign Bregman that puts the newly signed replacement, Issac Paredes, in a tough spot. To help solve this dilemma Astros 2nd baseman Jose Altuve has declared that he’ll move to left if that means Bregman is back on the team. While this seems like some click-bait type mess there are real journalists reporting it and the players are the sources. Will the Astros be able to pull this off? I was highly uncertain last night, but today I see the path…even if it is an unlikely one. Like the kid in Angels In The Outfield would say, “it could happen.” While not highly probable, I can see Bregman forcing Boras to take the deal. And if, IF, the trade is right I can see Ryan Pressly with a new team. But honestly, I say you do the deal either way. Even if Press doesn’t want to go. Here’s hoping, Houston. It could happen. Your Houston Astros season ends early with another home loss in the playoffs. This time the villains are A.J. Hinch and the most random team from Detroit. Paul breaks down one last game for you this season as he tries to explain what happened. The Astros have been so dominant but playoff baseball isn’t for the weak or fairweather, this loss hurts but there is no reason to sound any kind of alarm and say it’s all over. The off-season is sure to bring some change and the Astros are still lined-up to compete for next season. The Astros rallied late and were able to avoid a shutout, but weren’t able to score enough runs to win the game. Dropping the game to a dominant Tarik Skubal who pitched a shutout through the 6th inning. Framber struggled but the bullpen was solid. But the Astros offense was unable to come through until the 9th inning.
