We discuss how judges’ recent efforts to prevent the poisoning of jury pools are backfiring, silencing the families and others who have knowledge of cases and creating a vacuum that content creators, unwell true crime enthusiasts and defense attorneys have developed alliances to get around gag orders, which are often not effective and, therefore, likely unconstitutional. We also discuss the beauties of the true crime space, including creators and listeners who have contributed to helping solve cold cases, get attention for marginalized victims and comfort the afflicted. We touch on a better way and how listeners and viewers are voting with their feet, turning away from many unethical creators.Check out part one of The Murder Sheet’s coverage of the Delphi defense brain trust's secret messages: https://art19.com/shows/murder-sheet/episodes/26d853a0-e61d-4087-be17-bb1d68cf91eeListen to our previous episode covering the actions of Sadlowski and Parsons here: https://art19.com/shows/murder-sheet/episodes/4adacab5-5280-47e8-a08f-8899bc4efc48Check out the Silver Linings Handbook website at:https://silverliningshandbook.com/Check out our Patreon to support the show at:https://www.patreon.com/thesilverliningshandbookVisit the Silver Linings Handbook store to support the podcast at:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-silver-linings-handbook-podcast-store/The Silver Linings Handbook is a production of BlueSky Studios LLC.See the Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and the California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this bonus episode, Alison Dickson and Jayson unraveled a dark saga of Patty Cannon, a mastermind behind what was called the reverse underground railroad. Patty and her gang, The Johnson Cannon Gang would capture free blacks and runaway slaves in the north and sell them to Southern Plantation owners who are desperate in the wake of them after imported slaves were banned in 1807. Patty and her gang focused on making mayhem and stole up to 10,000 individuals but Patty in her own right was a noted serial killer with some account stating that she had dozens of bodies of men, women and children of varying ages buried on her property. At the time of her 1829 arrest, Patty Cannon was someone who was just looking for financial profit or is the financial profit just cover for the serial killing that she wanted to do?This episode was originally aired on a YouYube live for Patreon subscribers of the Vintage Villains podcast and The Silver Linings Handbook Podcast.Check out Allison's podcast Vintage Villains and visit our website, follow along with us on Instagram, join our Silver Linings Fireside Chat Facebook group and join us on Patreon. The Silver Linings Handbook is a production of BlueSky Studios LLC.See the Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and the California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

50. Holiday Listeners Episode

This episode is a part of a discussion I recently had on the meaning of the holidays, family, friendship and community with several of our listeners. As we head toward the end of the year, I thought it would be nice to celebrate our 50th episode with a group of listeners I've met over the course of the past year. This group of listeners are people that I often receive feedback from and consult on their ideas and simply listen to their stories. Their lives often give me inspiration for the guests I bring on to the show since we started in February. My listeners are very much a part of the podcast as much as my guestsIt's a wonderful group of people, a wonderful group of human beings and I'm so grateful not only to have them as listeners but in my life. We're going to discuss the meaning of the holidays, family and community. I picked this topic because it's something I've learned from two of my guests Brett and Alice, of the prosecutor's podcast. They pointed out in their episodes with us what primarily drives them to continue. Their podcast is not their interest in law or true crime which both run deep but the community that they've built at a time when so many of our traditional communities as Brett said are broken and at a time where we need community the most.Learn more by visiting our website and follow along with us on Instagram.Join our Silver Linings Fireside Chat Facebook group and join us on Patreon.
