Matt Macduff is a professional mountain bike rider and action sports athlete from BC, Canada. You may remember Matt first appeared on the podcast back in November 2018 for episode #061. Since Matt's first appearance we have stayed good friends, Matt and I often share book recommendations, articles and podcasts with each other and a few months ago I sent Matt a book title that I thought he'd enjoy. The book was called 'Breathe' by James Nestor, Matt downloaded the audio book while I bought myself the hardback version and we thought it would be a good idea to catch up for a chat when we'd both read the book. The concept for this podcast came about by pure chance. Initially, I was going to go on Matt's podcast (The Matt Macduff Show) and talk about my podcast journey with the goal of then discussing our experiences and takeaways from this book. However, as the conversation unfolded and ideas formed we decided to share the audio file and post it on both platforms. The aim is to get our listeners involved with future books and to potentially continue this format as a monthly show. This is a very varied and open episode which took us two days to record. Tyler Villopoto might have one of the most unique stories in all of action sports. You may already recognise Tyler's last name? After all, he is the younger brother to multi time motocross/supercross champion Ryan Villopoto and has himself been in and out of professional racing for many years. Earlier this year Alex, James, Ernie and I ran into some trouble whilst on a canoeing trip in Scotland. In fact, we almost lost our lives to a famous body of water called Loch Ness! A few days after the event we sat down to talk about our experience in an episode of the podcast called 'Always Prepare For The Worst'. The episode proved extremely popular and is one of the most downloaded episodes to date, it also raised awareness for being prepared when heading out for a walk, run, ride or whatever adventure you choose. If you have listened to the episode you would know that the RNLI played a huge part in saving our lives. We were in the water for approximately 45-50mins. James and Alex were rushed to hospital in separate police cars whilst I was air lifted from the water and taken directly to hospital with hypothermia and in severe shock.
