If you’ve ever yelled at your screen during a failed online shopping spree, wrestled your pugs floof into a too-tight t-shirt or dress, or just wondered why no one makes clothes that actually fit pugs … you’re in the right place.Today, we’re diving nose-first into the snorty story behind the Pugs n Stripes collection — what pissed me off enough to design my own line of pug-friendly fashion, what we fixed that other brands ignore, and how we turned a whole lotta frustration into one pugtastic solution. In this episode we talk about:01:35 What inspired the collection i.e. what pissed me off about shopping for my pugs?03:12 How did you figure out what needed to be fixed? i.e. how many Pugs did we measure04:30 How did you design the Pugs n Stripes Collection?09:30 What were the mandatory things to be included in the design?11:50 Why does the Pugs n Stripes outfits cost more than the clothes I can get at other shops, such as Kmart or my pet shop?12:49 What makes you think you’re better than other dog apparel brands?WANT TO LEARN MORE about the Pugs n Stripes Collection? S4 Ep 10S4 EP10: What the floof is in this? Bone Appetit Puggies

Today we’re digging into a topic that affects every Puggie, every day: what the floof is in our Puggies food bowl. Because let’s face it — what we feed our pugs has a huge impact on their health, happiness, and those oh-so-charming snorts. We’re talking about nutrition with a bonafide Animal Nutritionist Jackie Gowland from Functional Canine — not in a preachy or confusing way, but in a real, practical, “what do I actually put in the bowl?” kind of way. Whether you’re serving up kibble, raw, cooked, or somewhere in between, this episode is all about how you can boost the nutritional value of what you’re already using for your Puggie. We’ll also be sharing real-life examples from two of our resident taste testers: Rosie, who battles reflux, and Kenji, whose tummy can be as sensitive as a Pug caught out in the rain. You’ll hear how small food tweaks and a better understanding of ingredients can make a big difference for them — and I’m going to try it out and report back to you in a couple months to let you know how they’re going. So grab a treat (for you or your pug — no judgment here), and let’s dive into how you can feed your pug with a little more understanding, and even more love.In this episode we talk about:04:05 Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fur-family08:50 DID YOU KNOW: Tennis ball glue corrodes canine teeth11:00 ‘Pet Fooled’ - a movie about kibble and biologically appropriate raw food (BARF)12:30 Run through the different types of food - dry vs wet vs BARF food23:00 How is dry food made and what goes into it to make it ‘shelf-stable’30:50 How to read the nutrition label on canine food – dry, wet or BARF36:30 DID YOU KNOW: Dry food can spoil and should be stored in the fridge40:20 DID YOU KNOW: Did you know plastic can leech out of your plastic container into your dry food42:30 How can you improve the nutritional content of your Pugs bowl when the basis of their meal is kibble44:30: DID YOU KNOW: You should soak your Pugs kibble in water in the fridge overnight to avoid the kibble fermenting46:10 What is your Pug’s body telling you when they’re ‘eating grass like a cow’50:20 DID YOU KNOW: You shouldn’t feed your Pug cooked bones53:30 DID YOU KNOW: High carbohydrate kibble spikes a Pug’s blood sugar58:20 REAL LIFE EXAMPLE: What can we do for a Pug who has a sensitive tummy like Kenji01:05:00 REAL LIFE EXAMPLE: What can we do for a Pug who has reflux like Rosie01:13:00 How can we find you, learn more and engage your servicesWANT TO LEARN MORE about Canine Nutrition? S4 Ep 9S4 EP09: Understanding Canine Anxiety; helping Pugs feel safe again

In this episode, we’re unpacking something that affects more Pugs than we often realise—canine anxiety and reactivity. From sudden reactivity on a walk to the silent worry that plays out behind big, brown eyes, anxiety in our Pugs isn’t always loud — but it is always worth understanding. We’re so lucky to have our fur-end Sarah Rutten, canine behaviourist and author of the bestselling book The Canine Perspective, coming back on the show to help us break down exactly what anxiety and reactivity mean, how they show up in our Pugs, and most impawtantly, how to spot the early signs — like what’s behind that sudden freeze, or why your Pug growls at a stranger they’ve seen a dozen times before. As always, Sarah brings both science and compassion to the conversation, helping us understand what’s really going on in our Pugs’ brains and bodies — and what we can do to help them feel safe again. Plus, there might be a Floyd the 5-month-old Pug bark or two in the mix as well!If you’ve ever worried that your Pug is not coping or behaving strangely then this episode is for you. S4 Ep 8S4 EP08: The Price of Pugfection (Part 2)

Welcome back, Pug Pawrents! If you tuned in to Part 1 of this special two-part series on Pug health and well-being, you’ll know we’ve been diving deep into what it really takes—emotionally, practically, and yes, financially—to keep our squishy-faced companions living their happiest, healthiest lives. One of my biggest goals with the PUGCAST is to give you the kind of information that’s not only helpful, but honest—whether that’s through heartwarming stories from fellow Pawrents or expert advice from the pros. And today, we’re back with Part 2 of our conversation with Chelsea the Vet Nurse, who is once again bringing her trademark mix of compassion and clinical smarts. This time, we’re tackling everything from adult Pug care through to their senior and geriatric years—those years filled with extra cuddles, extra naps, and yes… often extra vet visits. From managing dental care to navigating mobility issues, this episode is all about helping you plan ahead and care with confidence—so you and your Pug can enjoy every single stage of the journey together. In this episode we talk about:03:17 The zoomie phase; what you’re in for when your Pug becomes an adult – BOAS, eyes, ears, nose folds22:00 The slowing down phase; what you’re in for when your Pug becomes a Senior Pug – Senior Pug annual check, blood tests26:45 The zen phase; what you’re in for when your Pug transitions to Geriatric – arthritis management, surgery restrictions/challenges35:00 How to find Chelsea the Vet NursePlease note: prices quoted during the episode are estimates only and you should always speak to your Vet to get a more accurate quote for your Pug.WANT TO LEARN MORE from Chelsea the Vet Nurse? S4 Ep 7S4 EP07: The Price of Pugfection (Part 1)

One of my biggest goals for the PUGCAST is to give Pug Pawrents like you useful, reliable information to help you live your best Pug Life. Sometimes that means sharing real stories from fellow Pawrents, and other times it means bringing in the pros to chat about topics that are super impawtant — but don’t always come up during playgroup catch-ups.That’s why I’ve been so excited to put together an episode focused entirely on Pug health and well-being — and yes, what it really costs to keep your squishy-faced bestie happy and healthy — from puppyhood all the way to their golden years.Joining us is Chelsea the Vet Nurse, who brings not only expert knowledge but also a love for Squishy faces. She’s here to discuss all the impawtant health and well-being questions as well as share her wisdom to help you be practically and financially prepared for every snort and sneeze. Now, there was so much to cover that I’ve split the episode into two parts, so you have plenty of time to take it all in. Part 1 dives into the early stages: from 8 weeks old through to 1 year — aka the puppy and adolescent phase. Part 2, which drops next week, will pick up from age one and cover adult, senior, and geriatric care.In this episode we talk about:05:50 Tell us a little bit about yourself Chelsea and your fur-family09:00 Why is the relationship between the Vet team and the Pug-family so impawtant?18:40 The cute phase; what you’re in for when your Pug Puppy comes home – initial Vet check/visit, vaccinations, microchipping and more28:08 The demon phase; what you’re in for when your Pug Puppy hits adolescence – flea etc. treatment, de-sexing, dental care routines and trainingPlease note: prices quoted during the episode are estimates only and you should always speak to your Vet to get a more accurate quote for your Pug.WANT TO LEARN MORE from Chelsea the Vet Nurse? S4 Ep 4S4 EP 04: Furry Tales with PD the Pug 🐾🎙️

Call me a big kid, but I absolutely love children’s books—especially ones about pugs! There’s something magical about diving into a simpler world, where I can easily imagine my own pug as the star of the story.PD the Pug (with a little help from his mommy Marilee) has been busy turning beloved fairy tales into pawsome furry-tail adventures. You can just picture PD right in the middle of all the fun and what I love most is that while the stories are playful and full of PD charm, they still hold onto timeless messages that feel just as relevant today. And is why Furry Fairy Tails; PD The Pug's Bedtime Stories is now my favourite PD bookIn this episode we talked about:06:10 My favourite Furry Fairy Tails06:30 Tell us all about yourself, PD the Pug and his first 4 books12:45 How did you come up with the concept for the Furry Fairy Tails14:35 What Fairy Tales didn’t make it?15:50 The appearance of the Secret Fawn Girl Pug18:30 Did PD need to dress up in costume to get in character for the book?21:00 PD modelling his Pug Parties outfits26:50 The appearance of PD’s arch-nemesis Ralph30:10 How do you get a book from idea to selling, including the development of each illustration?39:00 Does PD sign his own books at book signings?40:00 Win a copy of your very own Furry Fairy Tails; PD The Pug's Bedtime Stories43:05 Where can you buy the book and when is the next book signing in the US?WANT TO LEARN MORE about the PD the Pug? If there’s one thing that gets me every time, it’s a heartwarming ‘Puggily Ever-After’—whether it’s a rescue pug finding their forever family or a lost pug making their way back home. S4 Ep 2S4 EP02: Pug Tattoos; an enduring memorial

Have you ever considered memorialising your Pug or Puggies by getting a tattoo? I already have one tattoo from my Navy days, and I always thought that I’d get more but life just got in the way and I’m now thinking that it’s time to change that – the big question is, what do I get?I have been a Pug-mum to five Pugs in the last 20 years, not counting the Rescue Puggies I have been blessed to foster, and I’m wondering if I will have enough “body canvas” to fit them and future Pugs in if I choose a particular type or size of tattoo. So, to help me with my decision, I invited Tattoo Artist, Sarah Tavilla to come on the Show and talk about her work and what are the most popular tattoo’s for Pawrents. In this episode I’ll cover:02:15 Tell us about yourself and your fur-family03:15 Tell us about how you came to becoming an animal portrait artist06:40 A happy Pug Pawrent customer story08:30 Reason’s why a Pawrent gets a Pet Pawtrait11:20 What is the favoured tattoo style?14:40 Describe the process from start to final tattoo on your skin19:10 Describe how a Pawrent can take the pawfect photo of their pet for their pawtrait24:30 What is the main reason why people come to you to get a tattoo?27:00 What is the most interesting tattoo request you’ve ever had?28:50 What is the most popular portrait style?32:00 Do you have a favourite tattoo?33:00 How long does the tattoo take?34:15 Where can we find you?WANT TO LEARN MORE about Sarah Tavilla’s work? S3 Ep 11S3 EP11: Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria

Many years ago, when I rescued my first pug Winston a.k.a Fatdog through a local Vet who was doing everything they could to save the life of a little black pug whose only crime was that his family no longer wanted him and thought it was better to ‘put him down’ than find a loving home, did I realise just how naive I was about the world of pugs.Which is why today’s episode is so important to me – today I’m talking to Joanna from Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria, a volunteer community foster care network that rehabilitates Pugs, and Frenchies when the need arises, so that they find their fur-ever loving family and to never have to face the possibility of being ‘put down’ because their owners don’t want to help them find a loving home.Want to skip ahead, this is where to find the topics we discussed in the PUGCAST:03:00 Tell us about yourself and your fur-family05:30 When did Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria start11:05 Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria’s Philosophy15:45 How do you pay for all of the work you do?20:15 What is the difference between a rescue, a pound and a shelter?22:30 Why is Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria a community foster care network?27:55 Advice on getting a Pug for Christmas30:45 Why Pug/family matching is so important34:35 Adoption process41:40 How can you help Pug Rescue and Adoption VictoriaWant to learn more or become a member:Website: www.pugrescue.org.au Facebook: www.facebook.com/PugRescueVicInstagram: www.instagram.com/pugrescuevicIf you haven’t already, please subscribe to the PUGCAST so you don’t miss out on the next Episode and leave us a review; it only takes a couple of seconds to give us a 5-star review and it goes a long way to helping other Pug-Pawrents find us.Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter at https://bit.ly/thepuglifeshow, so you get advance notice of our next episode and if you've got any questions or want to tell us how much you loved the Episode then let me know over at our Facebook Group - The Pug Life Show PUGCAST (https://bit.ly/PugLifeShowGrumble) where Crazy Pug Pawrents meet to talk all things pug.

S3 Ep 9S3 EP 09: PD The Pug

There is a saying that goes “everyone has a book inside of them” and who knew that included Pugs! Now it’s not often I get to meet a multi-talented Pug such as PD the Pug; pug-author and all round cute snaggle-toothed boy pug, but thankfully he agreed to come on the Show to not only talk about himself and his pawsomeness (or should I say, have his Pug-mom Marilee talk about his pawsomeness), but to also talk about his books – the fourth having been released this year and my personal favourite – ‘A Star is Born!; PD the Pug on the Silver Screen. In this episode I’ll cover:02:42 What inspired you to become a Pug-Pawrent?07:08 Tell us a little bit about yourself and PD; how did you meet??24:54 Describe PD’s Pawsonality and share the naughty traits that you love the most and might not be in his books35:07 Tell us all about PD’s writing career and his four books – what inspired him to become an author noting the many careers he tried in Book 3 ‘Working like a …Dog’.43:50 Are we ever going to meet PD’s ‘secret fawn girl pug crush’?49:26 We really want to know about PD’s ‘under the stairs house’ and his ‘kitchen bench nook’55:34 Tell us about PD’s recent collaboration with the Rainbow Bridge Hospice57:14 How can our listeners find PD the Pug and his books? If you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service. You can either quickly hit the 5 stars if you're busy, or if you have a few extra minutes hit 5 stars and tell us what you think.By leaving us a review, not only will we know what you like or not like about the Show, other Puggies will be able to find us more easily and they can join in on the fun as well, YEAH!Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter at https://bit.ly/thepuglifeshow, so you get advance notice of our next episode and if you've got any questions or want to tell us how much you loved the Episode then let me know over at our Facebook Group "Livin' the Pug Life" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/livinthepuglife/) where Crazy Pug Pawrents meet to talk all things pug.

S3 Ep 8S3 EP08: Essential Oils for Pugs

Our episode today is one that I have wanted to do for some time now because I know so little about essential oils, but I love having them in my life. I love burning scented candles in my office and my home, I love a relaxing bath with some relaxing salts and an occasional visit from Rosie and Kenji checking up on me to make sure I haven’t forgotten them or dinner time, and I love running my diffuser when I don’t have a candle. The challenge is that I know enough about essential oils to know that some are not good for our furry fur-ends, but not enough to know what is good, what is bad and what combination is best for me and the Puggies … so you can see why I asked Libby to join me on the Show to dispel the myth, provide the fact and even give me a little advice about that little thing called anxiety which we all know Kenji suffers from.In this episode I’ll cover:03:00 Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fur-family05:02 What inspired you to learn more about essential oils specifically for pets?05:57 What are the “don’t” with essential oils and why?13:59 Talk us through the oils that are safe for Pugs and what can they do for them?22:48 Explain the different methods of application – diffuser, petting, ear tipping or paws.33:24 Listener offer36:22 How can our listeners find you?Libby has provided us with a special link that you can use to purchase oils for your Pug at a reduced price and get access to ongoing support and education, YEAH! I would understand if you thought to yourself on seeing the title of this PUGCAST, what would a Puggie need with a treadmill especially when I titled it “What would a Puggie need with a treadmill?”. However, when I came across this treadmill earlier this year, it made me think of my first Pug Louis, aka Fatdog and how he could have benefitted from a treadmill like this when we needed to get his weight down.In this episode I’ll cover:01:30 What would a Puggie need with a treadmill?03:39 Tell us a little bit about yourself and 04:58 What was the inspiration?06:07 Describe the treadmills and why it compliments a puggie walk17:02 Can it be used outside?20:53 What treadmill would you recommend for a Pug?22:44 Where can we find Chase Pro TreadmillsWant to know more about Chase Pro Treadmills, then you can find them here:Website https://www.chase-pro.com/Facebook @chaseprodogtreadmillsInstagram @chaseprodogtreadmillsYouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaLH6ogHQGnZx8gDCqtm8aAIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.

S3 Ep 5S3 EP05: Shedding Light on Canine Mental Health

It’s not often that I gush about a book of any kind, so when I do come across a book that I not only enjoy reading but I also get a lot out of when it comes to understanding my Puggies I gush to everyone, and then I ask for the author to come onto the Pug Life Show so we can talk about it in detail.Dr Dennis Wormald’s book ‘A Dedication to Difficult Dogs; A heartwarming tale shedding light on Canine Mental Health’ is a must read for every Pug-Pawrent out there. It doesn’t matter if your Pug has anxiety or not, this book helped me understand what might be going on in Rosie and Kenji’s heads (not to mention the rescue Puggies I care for) on a daily basis and thanks to that, I feel like I’m a better Pug-mom for it.In this episode I’ll cover:07:40 Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fur-family.09:20 What inspired you to focus on dog mental health and then write a book about it?16:30 Tell me about anthropomorphism - explain what it is and how it affects our relationship with our Pugs.29:00 Why is it so important for us as Pug Pawrents to learn how to interpret our Pugs behaviour, and where do we get it wrong?44:40 Talk about a Pugs incredible sense of smell52:20 Let’s talk about emotional learning vs operant learning/punishment – why is one better than the other and why is it so important to learn the difference62:50 How can our listeners find you?Want to know more about Canine Mental Health, then you can find them here:Website https://www.abadog.com/dennisFacebook @abadog.com.auYouTube @abadogX (Twitter) @denniswormaldIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.

S3 Ep 4S3 EP04: The Kindest Goodbye

This conversation was one that I wished I had had 18-months ago when Charles passed – to be able to have Charles at home with us as we said goodbye to him wouldn’t have made the decision any easier, but it would have made the process so much more private. I’m not saying that the process at a Vet isn’t compassionate or thoughtful, but not having to walk out into a waiting room full of heathy dogs with my cheeks still wet from crying to pay the final bill is a much better way to start the grieving process.I know that when the time comes, I will be giving Rosie and Kenji the opportunity to say goodbye from the comfort of our home, and I think you will be considering it too once you listen to what Dr Tom Milton from ‘The Kindest Goodbye’ shares in the episode. In this episode I’ll cover:03:05 Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fur-family04:40 What inspired you to start The Kindest Goodbye? 12:00 The process16:20 Without sounding crass, what is the best part about The Kindest Goodbye?20:38 What is the difference between your service and going to a Vet/funeral home?27:20 Can you talk us through your ‘Quality of Life’ scale38:10 Where are you located38:50 What is next for your business that our listeners need to be aware of, if relevant?41:00 How can our listeners find you?Want to know more about The Kindest Goodbye, then you can find them here:Website https://www.thekindestgoodbye.com.auFacebook @thekindestgoodbyeInstagram @thekindestgoodbyeIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.

Have you ever wondered what your Puggie’s name says about you or your Puggie Pawrent friend? Well let me tell you, I asked myself that question after my conversation with Gurvinder about Espresso and Martini, two fabulous Puggie names, and I ended up down a rabbit hole reading a multitude of articles (yes I’m not the only one who has thought about this apparently) and I thought I would share some of the more interesting things I discovered in my reading journey about what is in a Puggies name.In this episode I’ll cover:05:05 A little bit of history of pet names06:40 An interesting French naming convention for dogs08:40 What does your Pets name say about you17:15 Popular pet names of 2024Articles referenced in the PUGCAST:https://www.forbes.com/2010/02/25/dog-name-owners-lifestyle-what-your-dogs-name-says-about-you_slide.htmlhttps://archcreekanimalclinic.com/pet-names/https://slate.com/life/2024/05/dog-baby-names-boy-girl-best-pets.htmlhttps://www.thedodo.com/amphtml/dogs-name-says-about-you-1299743736.htmlhttps://au.news.yahoo.com/obsessed-strange-rule-dog-names-153257089.htmlIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.

S3 EP00: What’s in store for 2024

So, at the end of 2023, Rosie, Kenji and I had big plans for 2024 including a pugtastic season for the Pug Life Show … then the Pug Life happened, and we find ourselves curly tail deep in family and puggie emergencies (everyone is ok now so breathe a sigh of relief!) and we had started to work on our first Pug-specific clothing line and we all of a sudden found ourselves with no time left to keep in touch regularly on our socials or work on the PUGCAST – horrific I know!I promise you that we slowly chipped away at our to do list and we found some amazing Hooman’s and Puggies to invite onto the Show this year, and although the year is half over, we’re going to deliver 12 episodes as planned at the end of 2023. That means you get a new PUGCAST in your inbox every two weeks! That’s right, we’re releasing a new PUGCAST episode on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month and we know that you’re going to love the line-up we have panned.

S2 Ep 6S2 EP06: How to deal with separation anxiety

In this episode I’m talking about Puggie separation anxiety. Apparently, research has found that ‘one in every 4-6 dogs’ have separation anxiety and that it is ‘more common in older dogs’.What’s more, it can present in different forms and at different times. I’ve experienced Pug-to-Pug separation anxiety between Winston and Charles, and Pug-to-Hooman separation anxiety with Louis and now Kenji, and surprise surprise, no two Pugs are the same when it comes to displaying their anxiety! But the great thing is, there are ways to reduce the impact so that they can live their Pug life to the fullest and we’ll cover all the options in this episode. In this episode I’ll cover:• 01:15 1 in every 4-6 dogs have separation anxiety• 02:35 What is Puggie separation anxiety• 03:40 Steps to help your Puggie overcome separation anxiety• 07:10 When to get professional help• 08:35 My experiences with my PuggiesReference: Dealing with Separation Anxiety in dogs, by Dr Diane van Rooy, University of Melbourne, https://pursuit.unimelb.edu.au/articles/dealing-with-separation-anxiety-in-dogsIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service. You can either quickly hit the 5 stars if you're busy, or if you have a few extra minutes hit 5 stars and tell us what you think.By leaving us a review, not only will we know what you like or not like about the Show, other Puggies will be able to find us more easily and they can join in on the fun as well, YEAH!Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter at https://bit.ly/thepuglifeshow, so you get advance notice of our next episode and if you've got any questions or want to tell us how much you loved the Episode then let me know over at our Facebook Group "Livin' the Pug Life" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/livinthepuglife/) where Crazy Pug Ladies meet to talk all things pug.
