If you don't yet have a mailing list, have a vague notation that you need one, and would like to not have to rely solely on social media then this episode is for you! Welcome to the team my lovely – Yes, I do have a mailing list, I do send regular emails and I am making an effort to grow my list. How did I get to this place, well it's very much like episode 5 and how to build a website, I just decided it was going to happen! It is very easy to slip into overwhelm with all the things you 'should' do when it comes to email marketing, the net result is many of us completely right it off as something we can't do (that's for 'clever' trained people or lucky yoga teachers who have just somehow made it happen?!) Where to start when using email marketing No. You can 100% do this and any yoga teacher that has made it happen, isn't lucky, they've just proved it's possible and you can do it too. Here and my 3 basic steps to get started: Sign up to an email marketing provider – I really recommend Mailerlite (and please use my affiliate link if you do sign up with Mailerlite). But other ones include Mailchip, Converter-kit, and Active Campaign. Or if you have a Wix or Square space website, or use Kajabi, they all have email marketing built in, so use what you already have. Any emails you have from clients that come to your classes, workshops etc, email them and invite them to join your mailing list (you need their permission). Send an email to your list – however ever big it is! Create a lead magnet (say what?) – this is a fancy term for 'offer something for free'! For example, access to a class recording, mediation, PDF workbook in exchange for their email to encourage people to join your list. And remember, they are people, not email addresses, so talk to them via email. This is your email marketing strategy! With the launch of my new mindset and business mentorship programme for female yoga teachers and other solo wellness entrepreneurs last week, it felt fitting to talk about the benefits of working with a mentor or coach in this episode. Today, I share with you the impact that working 1:2:1 with a coach has had on my business and of course why you should join my Prosperous Yogini Mentorship programme! What often stops us is fear of spending the money, but any good coach, mentor or group programme will help you make your investment back and some. What mainly stopped me for so long was imposter syndrome, the fear that when someone who knew what they were doing might look at what I did and tell me I didn't have a clue or was doing it wrong. Being a full time yoga teacher Today, I am joined by my gorgeous YTT co-tutor Jane Craddick to share her experience of becoming a full-time yoga teacher. Taking that action may seem scary and challenging but we'll find out what can happen when we follow the heart. Today is full of myth-busting evidence: Overworked, ill and broke Jane gave up her employed job to be a full-time yoga teacher and trusted this was the right path - and it was! Jane trained to be a children's specialist yoga teacher first, then did a 4-week intensive foundation YTT - there is no one 'perfect route' into being a yoga teacher. Working harder doesn't necessarily equate to more money. They say running a business is 80% mindset and 20% action - this is very true! How to build a website - it's really very simple, just DECIDE that it is going to happen. Commit, take imperfect action and make it non-negotiable, so those inevitable hurdles and obstacles don't stop you. Dedicate yourself to learning new skills and processes and set a goal/target – 'this will happen by…….'! That mindset shift is all you need; the rest will just happen. What if you already have a website? If you already have a website this episode is still very much for you, as I bet there is something you'd love to do right now but feel that you can't or are stuck in the feeling of over-whelm. I can speak with serious authority on this as I am no website designer! I had a rubbish, basic website for 12 years but my website was a big part of my business being profitable and successful. If I had taken it down because I thought it wasn't good enough, or too basic this would have been a serious mistake. I have now invested in a new website, which someone professionally built it for me, but I can still edit this site and yes do encounter the odd hurdle and maybe a few technology tears now and again! But this is all part of sharing my light with the world, which like it or not is online and I still frequently ask google if I want to know something. After a story I encountered last week where a business owner woke up to find their FB and Instagram accounts had disappeared and trying to get someone in FB (or Meta as it's now known!) to help them impossible, I felt compelled this week to encourage you to not just be on social media! Main takeaways from today's podcast Do you have two-step authentication set up on your FB/Insta accounts – if not DO IT NOW! You don't and can't be on every platform, be where you feel most aligned and happy. See social media as the icing on the cake, the last 10%, the invitation to your yoga party, calling out those you think who may like your party, and be ok with some people not wanting to come! But know That not everyone is on social media. Not everyone sees your content (aka party invitation). If you're just on social media you're creating friction, those who are not can't find you! Not to mention the massive friction you'll experience if for whatever reason you lose your accounts, and this happens ALL THE TIME! Actions yoga can take now Get a website, Wix, Square or Word-press can all help you quickly and easily create a good-looking site at not too much expense to you. Or if you don't want a website, have a landing page, a one-page website that helps people find out about you and buy your offers. Today we explore friction when it comes to running a business (any business, not just a yoga one!) Friction appears for us in two ways; friction from external events beyond our control and the friction we create. I was going to purely talk about the friction we can create in our business, but after coming to record this episode and finding my brand new (and beloved!) Blue Yeti Mic was broken, more than likely thanks to my little girl who had been pretending to do her own podcast, I had to add in the impact of external friction and how to manage and respond to this! External friction in your yoga business Events beyond our control - illness, problems with physical spaces, issues with technology, managing students/clients and not to mention global pandemics, wars, and economic crises. All beyond our control, all have the power to cause us friction, frustration, and discomfort and leave us with a feeling of perhaps it's best I give up! They'll always be points of friction in your business the trick is knowing the process to navigate these moments. Are you creating friction in your yoga business How easy is it for me to book on to your classes or buy your offers? How easy is it for me to give you money? How easy is it for me to navigate your website? If you don't have a website (don't panic), but if you're just on social media what happens if I'm not or you lose your account? (Cue major source of external friction!) Do I have to complete a form or make a discovery call first? If yes is this appropriate to the offer? Put simply in the words of the brilliant Denise Duffield Thomas – A confused mind says no! Episode 2 – How to know what to charge After listening to episode 1 you're now totally sold on the belief that to serve, share your passion, teach yoga, you have to have a profitable, sustainable business model. This only happens through action, so let's get to it! How do you know what to charge for your services? In this episode, I primarily focus on the model of teaching classes, but a huge caveat here, this isn't the only way to make money teaching yoga. This model also has a ceiling, there are only so many classes you can physically teach in a week and if it's in-person only so many people you can fit in one room! But my nifty little equation, a + a = everyone is happy, (yes not a figure in sight), works for any offer. You know the importance of balanced energy, for your price to be right long-term the energy out must balance the energy in. Here is where data and woo-woo meet, you need to know the facts, what does it cost you to run this offer? Always start here! Then take time to shift through the noise stuff, until you find a price that says "hell yes", that's your inner wisdom, intuition talking. I'm going straight in and challenging those deep rooted subconscious beliefs that I believe are collectively held by many of us (me included!) We love what we do. We do it to help people. So we feel we shouldn't make money or it's wrong to make money from our passion. Or we don't fully value our skills, gifts, and experience and believe it's hard to make money from them. It's hard to earn money as a yoga teacher? In this episode I challenge the following 3 beliefs, have you ever heard, seen, felt, or said them yourself – I know I have! It's hard to make money teaching yoga (especially when you first start) It's wrong to make money from teaching yoga It's wrong to talk about how you make money from teaching yoga, it's wrong to talk about money. What we appreciate appreciates, I encourage you to use what you know, mantra, and affirmations – "It is safe for me to make money teaching yoga". In fact in order for you to fully serve your students it's your duty, so you can show up with abundance. Money doesn't care if you are a yoga teacher, how long you have been teaching or what your website looks like! It's simply a medium of exchange, the energy of your services for the energy of money. Show notes From my experience of training yoga teachers and working with women to create sustainable, profitable yoga businesses I found that the same issues came up time and time again. After repeating myself for too long I am now on a mission to help you over come self-limiting beliefs, banish business overwhelm and take action to create a sustainable, profitable yoga business, that serves you and your students. Since the covid pandemic my yoga business has grown, and a lot of that has been down to investing in myself and studying business (along side the yoga!) I soon realised that the principles of how to run an ethical, thriving business are the ones as yoga teachers we already know through our practise of yoga. Our hard wired belief systems often tell us it's hard to make money teaching yoga, we shouldn't make money teaching yoga, and so often as women we focus on serving others above ourselves. Today the yoga business is worth around $88 billion dollars globally, and £908 million in the UK. Women make up around 75% of the yoga teachers in the world. So why not you?
