171: When Saying No is the Key to Success: Prioritizing Your Best Yes
In case you didn't know this, I love my Tuesday episodes because they are unscripted! In this particular batch of my unscripted Tuesday thoughts, I open up about the challenges of staying focused as a creative entrepreneur. If you're like me, then you have very likely experienced "shiny object syndrome" - that temptation to jump from one exciting idea to the next, but this year, my mission has been to dial in on what truly matters to my business and heart, which is serving the surface pattern design industry! Listen in as I will be sharing how I had to make some tough decisions, like sadly having to cancel our highly anticipated Professional Creative Conference, despite how incredible that it definitely would have been! That was a moment that was painful, but it also felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders because it allowed me to stay true to my mission. Refining focus has been far from easy, but it is truly necessary to make room for our best yeses! We have some truly exciting new things in the works, including a product shop that will be a living example for our students, a brand-new in-house art agent, and a potential journal publication for our industry! I am so excited to explore these opportunities while staying aligned with our core mission, and I really hope that you will walk away from this episode of the show inspired to take a closer look at your own focus! What can you say no to in order to protect your best yes? 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/171 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

169: Failed Payments? How to Recover Revenue Without Losing Customers
I think that you're likely really going to like today's topic – all about keeping the money that you have already made! Listen in as I examine an issue that every online business owner faces at some point: failed payments. If you run an online business, offer a product, or have a subscription-based model, failed payments can mean losing revenue that you have already earned, and nobody wants that, right? What if I told you, though, that there is a way to recover those payments and keep more of your hard-earned money? I walk you through our tried-and-true process at Team Bonnie for recovering failed payments, which has brought us an 88% recovery rate - much higher than the industry average of 49%! I share why we brought our payment recovery back in-house after outsourcing it as well as the steps that we follow to not only recover payments but also treat every customer with kindness, tact, and empathy! You'll hear about the tools and strategies we use, like Stripe's built-in features and Churn Buster (which we love!), and how our approach to communication makes it easy for customers to get back on track. I also break down the difference between involuntary and voluntary churn, and how addressing each requires a unique touch. If you're struggling with failed payments or looking to tighten up your payment recovery process, this episode is packed with actionable tips. I also, of course, remind you: it's not just about the numbers; it's about treating your customers like individuals and creating systems that serve them and your business well! 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/169 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

164: The Gift of Going Second: How Social Proof Builds Trust
I hope that you will join me for this episode as I discuss what I call "the gift of going second." It all started with a trip to Dollywood's Splash Country for my son Bear's birthday. I'm not much of a thrill-seeker, but I'll tackle most water slides – but not without someone going ahead of me first to give a little feedback! This got me thinking about how much we rely on social proof in our businesses, whether it's reviews, testimonials, or case studies. We want to see that someone like us has already gone before and found success, right? Listen in as I explore the importance of showcasing a diverse range of people who have benefited from your offers - whether they be young, older, hobbyists, or total pros. I also share insights into how to use social proof to build trust and grow your audience authentically! Let's chat about how to give your customers that reassuring "gift of going second." If, like me, you are managing a remote team, then you know the challenges of keeping everyone connected and engaged when you're not physically together. Do you ever feel like you're juggling too many tasks at once? Trust me, I have been there, and it's why today's episode is so close to my heart! 158: Mastering the Art of the Pitch: Building the Confidence to Reach Out
As creatives, most of us eventually have to face the scary task of pitching or presenting our work, whether it be in trying to sell our work to a client, get it published, get it licensed, etc. It can be, as I said, scary, but it definitely doesn't have to be! 153: Working Through Worry: Believing In Your Best Case Scenarios
A big part of where worry comes from is our focus on the absolute worst case scenario that our minds can imagine. I know that I am guilty of being a worrier, a habit that has led me to experience significant anxiety, especially back in 2020. Over the years, I have been working hard on personal development and strengthening my mental pathways to better manage these thoughts, and in this episode of The Professional Creative, I share a simple yet powerful tool that has made a huge difference for me: balancing worst-case scenarios with best-case scenarios! Whether you're making personal decisions or navigating business challenges, I encourage you to weigh the risks against the potential rewards. Imagine not just what could go wrong but also what could go wonderfully right. By flipping the script and focusing on abundance, you might find a more balanced perspective that empowers you to take bold steps forward! 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/153 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide
152: Creating Business Rituals to Strengthen Your Community
Mental triggers essentially affect all of us. Founded from psychological and behavioral economics, they are psychological drivers that influence our behavior and the decisions that we make. They can take on many different forms, but join me today as I focus particularly on one that has become entwined with my own business - rituals! Rituals in business can create a profound bond between you and your audience, turning your interactions into something more meaningful and expected. These aren't just habits; they're things that your audience would notice if they went missing. For instance, I always have a specific way of signing off at the end of this podcast that has become a signature of mine. If I skipped it, you would notice! Similarly, in my membership, content is consistently delivered at 11 a.m. every Friday. If that changed, it would undoubtedly be missed. I invite you to think about the rituals that you can establish within your own business, whether it be an annual event like a year-end review, a monthly Q&A, or even something as simple as a consistent sign-off. Rituals help build a sense of community and connection. I also touch upon how I use a fantastic tool called Searchie to keep my content organized and searchable, which has been an absolute game-changer for my workflow! I am also thrilled to announce my new bi-weekly newsletters tailored for surface pattern designers and creative entrepreneurs. These newsletters, Secrets of the Studio and Beneath the Surface, are packed with resources and insights to fuel your creativity and business growth. I hope that you will listen in as we explore the power of rituals and how they can transform your business. Ep 148148: Mini Series: Teach What You Know Part 2 - Knowing Your Niche
If you've ever thought about adding teaching to your repertoire, you're in the right place. Today, we're diving into how to narrow down the topics you can teach, a crucial step if you're looking to diversify your revenue streams. Often, the decision to start teaching comes before you're entirely sure what you'll teach. It's an exciting journey, and once you take the plunge, you'll likely find that you love sharing your knowledge with others. Teaching can be incredibly rewarding, but it all starts with ideation. This episode will guide you through a vision-storming session with five essential questions to help you pinpoint exactly what you should teach. We'll explore what makes your craft unique, those informal moments where you naturally fall into a teaching role, and what people are most curious about when they ask you about your work. Firstly, consider what is unique about what you want to teach. Think about the distinctive aspects of your craft—those elements that set your work apart. Reflect on your informal teaching moments; these are the times when you've naturally found yourself explaining or demonstrating your process to others. These moments can provide valuable insights into what you're naturally inclined to teach. Additionally, research market needs and gaps. While it's unlikely you'll find something completely untapped, teaching from your unique perspective can fill a niche and offer something fresh. Pause and assess your personal passion. Ideating can be exhilarating, but slow down to ensure the topic you choose is something you're deeply passionate about. Once you start teaching, it may become a significant part of your career, so it's vital to choose a subject you can talk about for a long time without losing interest. And last but definitely not least, consider how you can make this uniquely you. Brainstorm the specific ways you approach your craft and create a mind map of your process. This personal touch will not only make your teaching more engaging but also distinguish your offerings from others in the market. By the end of this episode, I hope you'll have a clearer vision of what you can teach and how to transform your passion into a fulfilling new aspect of your creative business. 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/148 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide
Ep 147147: Mini Series: Teach What You Know Part 1 - Overcoming the Naysayers
Welcome to today's episode! If you're a creative, you've likely mastered your craft through countless hours of dedication, experimentation, and practice. But have you ever considered sharing that expertise with others? Today, we're diving into why I believe that as creatives, we should also embrace the role of educators. Teaching what we know isn't just about imparting skills; it's about empowering others, giving back to our community, and enriching our own professional journeys. Many creatives hesitate when it comes to teaching. There's a common fear of being judged or not being taken seriously. The term "selling out" gets thrown around, implying that turning to education somehow tarnishes the purity of our work. But let's shift that mindset. Sharing our knowledge is not about diluting our craft; it's about spreading the passion and expertise we've cultivated. It's our responsibility to contribute to the growth of our industry and uplift fellow creatives. The benefits of teaching your craft are profound and in this episode, you'll learn ten reasons why you should consider teaching what you know. I encourage you to take the leap. The rewards, both personal and professional, are well worth it. 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/147 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

In this episode, I'll share my personal journey of investing in coaching and how it has transformed my professional and personal life. I've discovered that many barriers we face in business are more about our thoughts and mindset than external obstacles. My investment this year hasn't just been in a mastermind, although I love being part of one. Instead, it's been in a coaching program, something I've never been involved in until now. We'll dive into the differences between a mastermind and a group coaching program, and how each serves a unique purpose. We'll also explore the distinctions between group coaching and one-on-one coaching, and the benefits each can bring. You'll learn why having a coach who also has a coach is crucial, and how this continuous cycle of growth and support can propel you forward. We'll discuss the common things that get in the way of our success and how coaching can help us overcome these hurdles. I'll also share how my coaching experiences have shaped the development of my own coaching program, highlighting the importance of understanding your reasons for seeking a coaching program and how to choose the right coach for you. Ep 135135: Design Your Life: Finding Freedom in Time, Location, and Finances
We hear it all the time: "Build a business so that you have freedom." You know, that elusive concept we're all chasing after as we build our businesses and craft our lives. But what does freedom really mean? And how do we go about designing a life that gives us the freedoms we want? Well, buckle up because we're about to explore it all in this episode. There are three types of freedom that most entrepreneurs crave: having the time to do what you love, the flexibility to work from anywhere, and the financial stability to support your dreams. But hey, freedom isn't a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. It looks different for everyone, and that's okay! At the end of it all, what do you want to be able to say about your life and what would you describe as a life well spent? That's really what freedom is to me. It's important to chase after your hopes and dreams, but don't do it haphazardly. Chase dreams with purpose and intention. But in order to do this, you have to get really clear on what those long-term goals are and it's important to be really specific. You can build these freedoms into your business just like I have. Ep 124124: The Art of Business, Part 3
Welcome back to the third and final part of The Art of Business! I recently had the privilege of delivering a keynote presentation that really got me thinking. I reflected deeply on my journey over the past 12-13 years – the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Out of that reflection emerged the concept of the art of business, broken down into three insightful sections, which we are exploring together across this series. After Part 2 of this series, we are moving right along into Bonnie 5.0 - The Confident. I gained momentum, business was booming, but we didn't know then how great 2019 was before 2020 hit us all hard. In this episode, you'll learn about the ways I created revenue during this time and all about the insane and huge decisions I made during this phase. But more importantly, you'll hear all about the mindset and philosophies I had to adopt during this phase and what it really means to be confident. After The Confident, we head into Bonnie 6.0 and then where I am today as a result of these important and formative phases. What a ride it has been! Join me for this final part for the discussion about building resilience around vulnerability, how to step into a visionary role, and learn all the things I really wish I had known in my journey as an entrepreneur. And I invite you to think about what version of yourself you are in and see where you could be headed next. 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/124 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide
