S1 Ep 171November 24th, 2022. Thanksgiving Day Special: Jimmy Spessard, CIA Hero.
It’s November 24th. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ Thanksgiving of 1989. There was a home in Hagerstown, Maryland that was full of a lot of joy. Probably a lot like your home today. The Spessard family was celebrating Thanksgiving, with a dad named Jimmy, his young wife Debra, and their two small sons, Jared and Jason. The next day Jimmy would be leaving town for a while. For two weeks, was the plan. He’s was heading to the country called Zaire – we now know that country as The Democratic Republic of the Congo. But as fate would have it, Thanksgiving of 1989 would be the last one that Jimmy would celebrate with his family. And you know what? He knew it. So today we’re going to remember and celebrate the life of Jimmy Spessard. He’s but one of the CIA Officers who died in the line of duty and is now remembered at CIA headquarters with a star chiseled into a very special marble wall in the Old Headquarters Building. I offer you this story of remembrance and celebration as we all gather today just like Jimmy did back in 1989. I hope it’s a wonderful reminder to us all of how thankful we ought to be to so many who have been of service to this country. And of the many more likely to come. ------ Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief. Email: [email protected] Learn more about your ad choices. It’s November 22nd. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ A good day to you, ladies and gentlemen. I’ve got a Special Brief for you this morning that is shaping America — and the world. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been traveling in Southeast Asia over the past week. Ms. Harris is in the Philippines this morning, while Mr. Biden was in Indonesia last week. Now most of the headlines during their travels have focused on things like China, climate change, and military cooperation. And all of that has degrees of merit. But there was one development that the headlines didn’t capture – and you probably didn’t hear about it either. Yet it’s the story of the most profound importance. And not just for you and me or even America. But the entire world. Because folks there’s a battle brewing this morning. It’s a battle over renewable energy. And depending on how it plays out, it could affect the balance of global power – and the lives of families just like yours. So grab your maps, ladies and gentlemen – on your computer, phone or in your mind – and come with me this morning on a trip around the world — with stops in Indonesia, South America, and the Congo. And by traveling together we’ll come to understand the importance of this story that nobody else is talking about. ------ Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief. Second, North Korea fired off a powerful missile late last week, one that can hit every state in our union. I’ll give you the details. Third, an update on the potential strike of America’s rail-road workers. I’ll refresh our memories on that story and tell you what to expect today. Fourth, some of Europe’s businesses are relocating to the United States, all because of our cheap, reliable energy. But recent events in Oregon and California suggest that that might not last much longer. Finally, let’s end on a good note today, and let’s talk about a favorite subject of mine: coffee, especially from Brazil. ------ Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief. I’ve got a few briefs for you this morning that are shaping America — and the world. First, Republicans have officially captured the House of Representatives. They’re promising to investigate Joe Biden and his family because of their foreign business deals. But is that fair? We’re going to look at the issue imagining that we’re investigators at the CIA. Second, Thanksgiving prices are way up this year. But in the future, they could be lower because the FDA just approved a new form of meat. And that is: chicken but grown in a laboratory. Yum. I’ll dig into that story. Third, some bad news and good news related to America’s southern border. And the good news is fantastic news / if you or a loved one deals with addiction. Finally, an update on America’s Dirty Green Revolution. Forty coal-fired power plants are going to stick around for a while longer / because some solar panels aren’t ready for prime time. And, we wrap up the podcast later with a listener question from a dad in Ohio who homeschools his kids. But there wasn’t much more than talk to those meetings. I’ll discuss that. Second, Mr. Biden’s next stop is in Indonesia, meeting with China’s president today amongst others. And there’s something very alarming that Pres. Xi said to his troops last week that Biden should be thinking about. November 11th, 2022. Veteran's Day Special: Hugh Francis Redmond
It’s November 11th. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ Seventy Seven years ago this month, there was a veteran in Yonkers, New York who was sitting at home after being discharged from the military, having been wounded in World War II. His name was Hugh Redmond. Today we’re going to re-tell the story of Hugh Redmond his incredible life, his service as an intelligence officer, and his eventual death. And the reason that we’re focusing on it today is because of events happening next week. Joe Biden is traveling to Asia and, based on reporting from Reuters News, he will likely meet the President of China. And it’s in China where Hugh Redmond died. A captive held for over 15 years by the Chinese Government, often in solitary confinement and often tortured. To this day, we’re not really sure what happened to Hugh — officials in Beijing told us a story at the time but neither the US Government nor Hugh’s family ever believed it. So today I want to remind us of Hugh’s story of courage, tenacity, and love of country all as America’s president goes face to face with China’s President. It’s a story worth re-telling, folks, because as PDB listeners know, we face the growing prospect of war between China and America. And if that happens, we are going to need men and women just like Hugh Redmond. A new generation of American fighters who are willing to sacrifice everything to ensure freedom and liberty for all. ------ Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief. It’s November 10th. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ We are two days out from America’s midterm elections. The Republicans have probably won the House of Representatives; confirmation likely sometime today. The Senate, however, is still up for grabs. I’ll leave it to others to get into the nitty gritty of all that, but here’s the bottom line: assuming Republicans take control of the House, things are likely going to be different in Washington DC. But how different will it be? That’s a question that not only Americans are asking this morning but also the politicians, diplomats, and spies in places like Mexico, China, and Russia. And that will be the focus of today’s special brief: How will this election affect our foreign relations? And how will that affect you? Because that’s what I’m most interested in here at the PDB: how all this foreign stuff impacts your daily lives and that of your family. ------ Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief. It’s November 9th. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ Well, the results are trickling in for America’s midterm elections. And we’ll talk more about those tomorrow and next week. But there’s still a lot of other stuff happening out there. So let’s do a Big Five Update. Five critical updates on stories we’ve covered previously that are shaping America — and the world. First, the Pentagon has admitted it has boots on the ground in Ukraine, with the goal of trying to understand what’s happening to all that weaponry we’re sending to Kiev. Second, China’s looking to make a new friend in Central America, and the way that they’re doing it, is pretty sneaky. Third, a record number of Americans are moving to Mexico, of all places, but some Mexicans aren’t very happy about that. Fourth, there’s a pending rule by the US Government that could mean America’s farmers and ranchers have to track the greenhouse gas emissions on all of their operations. Finally, we’ve got another outbreak of bird flu in Iowa and that might mean higher chicken and turkey prices right before Thanksgiving. Plus, a listener question today this one about freedom of speech. ------ Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief. And that means we’re likely to hear some pretty outrageous claims from the politicians who lose. So we’re going to cover those claims and let you decide whether The End is Near, as some are saying, or rather that America is alive and pretty darn well. And then, to close out the podcast, we’ll wrap up with three awesome questions from listeners. We’re going to do a deep dive into how this drug starts in China, transits into Mexico, and ends up in your hometown. It’s November 3rd. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ It’s election time, but not just here in America. We’re going to talk about the lessons that leaves for voters here in America. As always, I’m keeping an eye out for developing stories. Put these two on your radar. First, America’s college freshmen and sophomores are struggling this year with the basics — like reading and math — all because of COVID policies when they were in high school. I’ll share what school administrators are finding. Second, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates yesterday to reverse inflation. But they also put a report out saying it might take a long, long time to do that. And as always, we’ve got a listener question. November 2nd, 2022. How Clean Are The Solar Panels Leading the "Green Revolution"?
It’s November 2nd. You’re listening to the President’s Daily Brief. Your morning intel starts now. ------ For years we’ve heard about dirty oil, dirty coal, and dirty natural gas. All dirty because of their environmental record, plus their tie to foreign dictators. Well today begins a five part series on Dirty Green. We’ll explore the debate of whether renewable energy is really the picture of purity that we are so often told or whether there are dirty secrets to the environment and connections to dictators abroad. Today, we kick off the series exploring solar panels. That’s coming up. And finally, the last thing before I let you go. Well now he’s got his first test: rumors about something that happened at the home of Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. We’ll talk about why these developments are such big deal — even if you don’t use Twitter. As always, I’m keeping an eye out for developing stories. Put these two on your radar. First, an outbreak of COVID at an Apple factory in China has workers cutting through fences to escape being locked down. Second, and speaking of COVID, there’s a new Senate report out on how COVID started in China. They have evidence it probably came from that Lab in Wuhan. And as always, we’ve got a listener question. Today it’s about those kids in the Congo mining for Dirty Green Energy, and whether kids should work at all. ------ Please remember to subscribe if you enjoyed this episode of the President's Daily Brief.
