Burnout Isn’t a Time-Management Problem (It’s a Nervous System Problem) You don’t need another planner. You don’t need more discipline. What if I told you I have my students switch centers or stations everyday without me saying anything? Setting up centers for the first time can be hard. Especially when you're not sure where to even start. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, but it can be really hard to navigate as a teacher. So how can you handle the chaotic holiday energy without completely using your mind? When I was a first year teacher, I struggled with classroom management. The other day I was talking to a First-Year Teacher who asked me what do you do during a teacher interview when you don't know how to answer their question. When I applied for my first teaching position, I was TERRIFIED districts wouldn't take me seriously because I was only 21 years old. I had just graduated with my masters, and I had wanted to teach since I was 5 years old.    Fast forward to Spring of 2018, I flew from Oregon to New Mexico for two different job interviews. Both of which regard me to teach a demo lesson. I turned my biggest weakness as a teacher into my biggest strength.    I did TWO interviews on the same day and BOTH of them offered me the teaching position DURING the interview. When I first came up with the desire to leave at contract time as a new teacher I felt incredibly guilty. I thought that in order to be a good teacher I had to work a lot of hours and really hard.   But over the years I have found systems that have worked for me and the teachers that I coach to consistently get us out the door WHILE being weeks ahead in lesson planning and prepping.   Well today I am diving into my top reasons why leaving at contract time makes you a better teacher.   Have you ever came in for the day having a bad morning and your students were completely off the charts? Or have you ever came in with the perfect morning ever and your students were absolute sweethearts?   It's no secret that the energy you bring to the work-day matters.  One of the top questions I get asked is 'how do I automate my classroom?' Well today I'm talking about one of the MAIN strategies I myself and the teachers I have coached have used to make our classrooms run on autopilot. And that is utilizing classroom routines.   Classroom routines is one of my top strategies to consistently leaving at contract time as a new or first-year teacher.
