A series win: Phillies show flashes in Colorado
The Phillies scored seven runs in the first inning in Friday’s series opener in Colorado, and everybody had to be thinking … here comes the offense. The Phils won two of three this weekend in Colorado, but they scored only three runs in the final two games of the series. Fortunately, Jesús Luzardo pitched a gem in Saturday’s 2-1 victory. Unfortunately, Taijuan Walker did not in Sunday’s 4-1 loss. Takeaways from the weekend in both the hitting and pitching side? It’s “Best Week” by Manco & Manco Pizza! Manco’s is the Best of the Best, and every week throughout the season we pick our best Phillies players, performances and moments of the week. Plus, Zack Wheeler made his second rehab start on Friday, but he’s still looking for his fastball velocity. Youth is served: Justin Crawford, Andrew Painter lead Phillies
Thank goodness for Phillies rookies Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford. Painter led the way to a victory on Tuesday, when he made his MLB debut. Crawford’s walk-off hit in the 10th inning on Wednesday allowed the Phillies to win their first series of the season. They’ve provided a jolt to the Phillies, who are struggling offensively. We talk about the kids, the Phillies’ slumping offense and why we think they’ll be OK. Get 10% off your first month of BlueChew Gold with code FOUL at BlueChew.com Love the show? Andrew Painter delivers in Phillies debut
Phillies fans had been waiting years for Andrew Painter’s Phillies debut. Painter had been waiting his entire life. But Tuesday’s MLB debut was worth the wait. Painter struck out eight and allowed just one run in 5 ⅓ innings against the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park. What impressed us the most about Painter’s debut? A lot of things. We dig into it.
