Does God Still Love Souls in Hell? (Special Podcast Highlight)

bonus

Lee from Wisconsin asks a question that tugs at the heartstrings: "Does God still love the souls in hell?" You have to hear Patrick Madrid's response! Key Takeaways: God’s Everlasting Love: Unchanging Love: Patrick reassures us that God’s love never ceases, even for those in hell. He holds them in existence, which is a profound sign of His undying love. Created for Love: Imagine this: God knew you, and each one of us, from all eternity. He created us out of love, fully aware of our destinies, yet He chose to bring us into existence. God’s Timeless Perspective: Beyond Time: God doesn’t see time like we do. For Him, everything is an eternal "now." This eternal perspective means His love and knowledge are always present and constant. Balancing Justice and Mercy: Justice in Love: While God’s justice means punishment for disobedience, it doesn’t negate His love. Holding even the damned in existence is an act of His love. Fixed Decisions: Once a soul is in hell, their decision is irrevocable. They cannot repent because they lack the supernatural virtue of charity needed to love God. The Moment of Judgment: Final Chance: Forgiveness is available up to the point of death. After death, the opportunity for repentance ends. As Hebrews 9:27 says, "It is appointed for man to die once, and then the judgment." Act of Contrition: A sincere act of contrition at the moment of death can restore one to grace. This should remind us of the importance of being always ready through daily acts of contrition. Heartfelt Advice: Daily Contrition: Patrick gently urges us to make a habit of daily contrition. Picture this: before you drive, before you sleep, whisper a heartfelt, "Lord, I love You. I'm sorry for my sins. Please forgive me." This simple habit keeps us ready to meet God, no matter what happens. Conclusion: Patrick Madrid's words remind us that God’s love is a constant, unyielding force, even for those who turn away from Him. His perfect balance of justice and mercy calls us to live in a state of readiness and love. Your Daily Devotion: "Lord, I love You with all my heart. I'm sorry for my sins. Please forgive me. I am more sorry because I love You and know You love me than I am about fear of punishment."

"What Can I Do if the Traditional Latin Mass is Taken Away?" (Special Podcast Highlight)

bonus

When Storms Hit: Trust in the Captain! In this episode of The Patrick Madrid Show, Patrick addresses a heartfelt dilemma from a devout Catholic listener. She's torn between her love for the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) and her discomfort with the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) community near her. Listener's Dilemma: Raised Catholic: Deeply committed to her faith. SSPX Parish Nearby: Feels uneasy about their anti-Pope stance. Love for TLM: Finds the Traditional Latin Mass profoundly beautiful. Valid Mass: Believes the new Mass is valid and respects those who attend it. Deep Dive: Understanding SSPX If you're unfamiliar with SSPX, Patrick will tell you more about it and how it came about. The Society of St. Pius X was founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in the mid-20th century. Lefebvre, a French-speaking bishop, was dedicated to the traditional liturgy and established a seminary in Switzerland. He upheld the traditional Latin Mass even after Vatican II introduced the Novus Ordo Mass. Key Points: Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre: Missionary work in Africa; founder of SSPX. SSPX and Vatican II: Opposition to the changes introduced by Vatican II's Sacrosanctum Concilium. Consecration Controversy: Lefebvre’s unauthorized consecration of four bishops in 1988 led to excommunication by St. Pope John Paul II. Current Status: Excommunications lifted by Pope Benedict XVI, but SSPX remains in a complex canonical status. There's still a lot of confusion, unfortunately. The Ongoing Debate: Schism or Not? Canon lawyers and church authorities debate SSPX’s official standing. Confession Faculties: Pope Francis granted SSPX priests faculties to hear confessions. Flourishing Independently: Despite the controversies, SSPX has grown with numerous chapels and vocations. Patrick’s Insights: Affirming Validity: The new Mass is valid. Even SSPX adherents should recognize this, despite their criticisms. Current Restrictions: Acknowledge the restrictions on TLM but maintain peace and trust in Jesus. Biblical Wisdom: Patrick draws a parallel with Mark 4:35-41, where Jesus calms the storm while the apostles panic. Advice for the Journey: Stay Calm: Don’t let the fear overwhelm your faith. Trust in Jesus: He guides the Church through all storms. Remain Loyal: Stay faithful to the Church and avoid fringe groups. Pray and Hope: Things will improve with time. Reflection Passage: Mark 4:35-41: Reflect on Jesus calming the storm and trust in His leadership through turbulent times. Inspiring Hymn: Stabat Mater Dolorosa: A beautiful reminder of standing faithfully at the foot of the cross, just like Our Lady. Final Encouragement: Stay the course, remain Catholic, and trust in Jesus. Remember, this is His Church, and He will guide it safely through every storm.

What is the Church's Teaching on Treating Ectopic Pregnancies? (Special Podcast Highlight)

bonus

Patrick Madrid welcomes John from New Jersey, a dedicated pro-lifer with a pressing question on a tricky topic: ectopic pregnancies. John has heard conflicting advice on whether it's morally permissible to end an ectopic pregnancy to save the mother's life. He wants to know what the Catholic Church teaches. Patrick's Breakdown: Understanding Ectopic Pregnancies: An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. This condition is life-threatening for both the mother and the baby and is a heartbreaking situation. Church's Teaching - The Principle of Double Effect: The principle of double effect is crucial here. It allows for an action that has both a positive effect (saving the mother's life) and a negative effect (the unintended death of the child), provided the negative effect is not the intended outcome. Three Foundations of a Moral Act: Object of the Act: The act itself, such as removing the damaged fallopian tube, is not inherently immoral. Intention: The intention behind the act is to save the mother's life, not to kill the child. Circumstances: The context is that without intervention, both the mother and child would die. Key Distinction: Directly killing the child to save the mother is always immoral. The Church would never allow this. However, removing the fallopian tube (even though the child cannot survive this procedure) is morally permissible because the primary intent is to save the mother’s life, not to end the child’s. Takeaway: The Catholic Church’s teaching on ectopic pregnancies hinges on the principle of double effect, ensuring that actions taken are morally sound, focusing on saving lives without intending harm.

"Should I Attend that Non-Valid Catholic Wedding?" (Special Podcast Highlight)

bonus

Ever been stuck wondering if you should attend a wedding of a fallen-away Catholic? There can be anger, tension, and hurt in the family if you don't go, and it's tempting to want to keep the peace! What should you do? Patrick Madrid dives into this tricky situation! Here’s some advice that can help you! Listener Letter: Maggie and Bill write in, grappling with attending a wedding of Catholics who’ve drifted from the Church and are getting married outside of it. They present objections from fellow Catholics challenging Patrick's stance against attending such weddings. Patrick's Key Points: Catholic Marriage Validity: A marriage involving at least one Catholic must take place in a Catholic Church before a bishop, priest, or deacon to be valid. Otherwise, it’s not recognized by the Church. Natural Marriages: Marriages between non-Catholics, like Protestants or non-Christians, are considered valid by the Church. Catholics can attend these ceremonies without issues. Scandal and Conscience: Attending an invalid Catholic marriage can cause scandal and gives the impression of endorsing it. This is a matter of conscience, not just a public stance. St. John the Baptist Analogy: Patrick uses St. John the Baptist’s refusal to endorse Herod’s invalid marriage to show the moral duty to uphold Church teachings, even when it’s tough. Objections and Patrick's Responses: "John the Baptist was a political figure." Response: John wasn’t a political figure; his actions had political implications. The moral duty to stand by your conscience applies to everyone, regardless of prominence. "No one else cares if I attend." Response: God cares. It’s about your conscience and integrity. Even if no one else knows, compromising your beliefs for convenience isn’t right. "Isn't it better for them to be civilly married?" Response: For Catholics, a civil marriage without following Church law is just cohabitation. The state’s recognition doesn’t make it valid in the Church's eyes. "Lying during Pre-Cana is worse." Response: Both lying and entering an invalid marriage are wrong. The right path is to avoid both and adhere to Church teachings. "Is there a benefit to attending and showing quiet disapproval?" Response: Attending might imply endorsement, causing more harm than good. Upholding your beliefs and setting an example is more beneficial. Family Dynamics: Patrick totally understands how difficult it can be to take a stand for truth, but he reminds you that we always need to do God's will, even when others are against us. Ask Jesus for the courage to follow Him no matter what.
