45. The Moore You Know: With Dr. Russell Moore

Russell Moore, author, theologian, former pastor, former Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission President for the SBC, and podcast host for Christianity Today, sits down with Tim to discuss the current situation within the AEC. Russell gives some of his background and his connection with disillusionment of the church; a phrase he uses instead of deconstruction to describe what he sees as antichrist in the modern AEC. Tim and Russell discuss what his view of the deconstruction movement is and how broad the term is. They both discuss what both the individual and the church need to do in order to propel the church forward in a Christ focused manner. Lastly, Tim gives Russell a chance to point out what is wrong with TIm's critique of the AEC and what he sees as necessary for the church to meet the requirements set down by Jesus to be a healthy church. 25. Centering the Gospel of Jesus on the Oppressed with Rev. Megan Madsen

Megan Madsen, a Wesleyan theologian, discusses with Tim whether or not social justice is Biblical justice. From the Hebrew Bible to the Gospels, Megan breaks down how Judaism viewed injustice and how God expected Israel to respond to oppression of any kind. Megan, also reorients believers to an oppressed centered gospel in which the Spirit of God moves through a believer and accomplishes good deeds through them. She points out that modern Evangelicalism is centered on the white, male, heteronormative, Christian, captialist model and the gospel must benefit that believer. This is in contrast to the believer being beneficial to those around them, especially the most vulnerable in society. Dr. Katie, explains early childhood development and how that creates our formation of identity. Identity, she argues, influences what kind of relational intimacy we have as adults. Tim and Dr. Katie, explore how churches, by their very nature of subjective truth, have a greater influence than authority figures who operate from objective fact. This pushes the average church goer to conform. Dr. Katie and Tim, look at how to do embodiment integration especially for women in deconstruction spaces who were survivors of spiritual abuse/trauma. 21. Rescuing Women from Bad Sex with Sheila Gregoire

Sheila Gregoire, author of The Great Sex Rescue and the Facebook page To Love, Honor and Vacuum, is back to break down the misleading issues in Evangelical literature about marriage and sex. Beginning with her background, Sheila explains how the book The Great Sex Rescue became one of the first comprehensive scientific surveys on Evangelical Christian women’s sexual mental well-being and pleasure. Sheila and Tim explore the myths and harmful influences of these well known marriage books by Evangelical Christian authors. Show Notes Sheila, begins by giving background on how her venture into the world of Christian women’s sexuality began. She explains how the book The Great Sex Rescue came about. Her research for the book used the first of its kind scientific survey to gauge women’s sexual satisfaction, women’s marriage health and women’s overall view of sex. Sheila, identifies four problems within the literature of well known Christian authors: The most damaging being sex is primarily for men, women were experiencing pleasure 47% less than the rate of their husbands, physical explanations for lack of pleasure not addressed, and myths about women’s sexuality. Sheila, goes on to explain how those books were not scientifically analyzed but used faulty interpretation of the data of peer reviewed material. Tim and Sheila look at the myths promoted in these well known books such as: Men have no self-control and therefore their wives must satisfy their sexual needs without a consideration of their own, issues of consent in marriage exploited by these authors, the dehumanization of men by portraying them as sex crazed maniacs, and how a woman’s painful intercourse isn’t tied to her need for non-intercourse stimulation. 16. A Dialogue with Anti-Mask Pastor Samuel Deuth of Awaken Church

This is a new series that I will be doing throughout the New Evangelicals Podcast. I believe it is essential to dialogue with the other side of the Chrsitian spectrum, to ask questons and to hear what they have to say. On this episode I interview Samuel Deuth who is a Pastor at Awaken Church in California. Samuel believes that Christians should resist tyranny and oppression by resisting mask wearing both and inside and outside buildings. Samuel’s Church has hosted Charlie Kirk and will be hosting Candace Owens this summer. I had a lot of questions for Samuel and he was kind enough to come on to answer them. 15. Hijacked by Fundamentalism, Christian Humanism and a Better Path Forward with David Gushee.

I interviewed the father of deconstructing (my title not his) Dr. David Gushee and let me tell you friends, it did not disappoint. David is well known in academic circles for writing several textbooks that are still widely used in colleges today including the book Kingdom Ethics. However, over time, David found himself more at odds with the fundamentalist take over the evangelicalism and when he wrote his LGBTQ affirming book, changing our minds, he was promptly kicked out. Since then David has spent his time writing After Evangelicalism and giving the deconstruction community better language for what they’ve experienced.
