Show Notes
Jemar Tisby, author, scholar, activist and student of the renowned author and scholar Dr. William Pannell, discusses racism within Evangelicalism based on the book by Dr. Pannell, The Coming Race War. Jemar, gives the history and background on his mentor, Dr. Pannell. He explains how in 1992, Dr. Pannell identified the crisis that white Evangelicalism continues to ignore about racism both in secular society but also in Evangelical theology and churches. Tim and Jemar explore how that lack of identification of black voices within Evangelicalism makes it difficult for white Evangelicals to hear their position on racism. Jemar, explains how historical context is important to understand the current minimization of racism and its implications on society as a whole. Jemar, also explains the whitelash, or the silencing of black voices on this subject, and how it hinders the work that Jemar and other black scholars/activists/theologians do. Finally, Jemar and Tim look at ways to support black Christians in their work to fight racism within Evangelicalism, as well as in other spheres of society.
