As a child, Vladek Hasel was adopted from a Russian orphanage about 70 miles southeast of Moscow by an American family and lived a life he never dreamed possible. But at the age of 22, he disappeared without a trace from a street corner in Orlando, Florida. His family is still searching for him to this day. Bryan “Vladek” Hasel is five-feet-eight-inches tall. Camille Dardanes Dotson was just 30 years old when she disappeared from Las Vegas, Nevada in 1994. Her loved ones have spent years searching for her, with very little help from law enforcement. Despite the barriers they’ve continued to encounter, Camille’s daughter, friends, and family continue to push for information, determined to get closure and justice for Camille. At the time of Camille’s disappearance, she was 30 years old, 5’7, and weighed between 125 and 145 pounds. She has brown/hazel eyes and brown hair. At the time, she had a recently broken nose and slightly discolored teeth. The name ‘Cruz’ was tattooed on her right hip. Camille had several different names that she sometimes used, including the first names of Nicole, Renee, and Kim and the last names of Clark and Diaz. Camille would be 60 years old today. Bob Crane starred as Colonel Robert E. Hogan, the lead of Hogan's Heroes, an American television sitcom airing from 1965 to 1971. It was set in a prisoner of war camp in Nazi Germany during World War II. He was murdered on June 29th, 1978 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The crime remains unsolved to this day. Chautauqua County is the westernmost county in New York - it stretches from Lake Erie down to the Pennsylvania state line. The largest city is Jamestown, around 70 miles southwest of Buffalo. Apart from Jamestown, the rest of the county is made up of smaller towns and villages, with less than 150,000 people living in the whole county. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s three women went missing from Chautauqua County; Lori Bova, Yolanda Bindics, and Corrie Anderson. Their disappearances happened in different years, different locations, and the women were all different ages but their cases intertwine. According to the National Institute of Justice, the majority of missing person cases are solved and the majority of the cases solved bring victims back alive. In 2012, for example, around 659,000 of the 661,000 missing persons cases reported that year were resolved by the end of the year. But what happens when cases aren’t solved within a year? Or five years? Ten years? What happens when a case has been cold for 45 years? Today we are discussing one such case. It is the case of a young man, the family who maintained that he would come home, and a niece who decided to fight for a resolution. His name is Brian Vargo. This is his story. We were privileged in being able to speak with Brian’s niece Amanda, the daughter of one of Brian’s older brothers, for this episode. Although Amanda never met her uncle, she was able to tell us about his upbringing and personality based on her own research. In August of 2000, 23-year-old Welsh backpacker Kirsty Jones was just two months into the year-long trip of a lifetime: backpacking through Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. After having dinner with new friends, Kirsty did some shopping at a local bazaar, then made the short walk back to the guest house she was staying at in Chiang Mai in the country of Thailand. The next afternoon, Kirsty was found dead inside of her room, strangled and sexually assaulted. Despite DNA being found at the scene, Thai police allowed the room to be contaminated over and over, sinking the investigation before it even started. 23 years later, Kirsty will never have justice in the court system. Yolanda Bindics disappeared after a routine shift at work on August 10, 2004. Two years later her skeletal remains were found in a wooden area over two dozen miles from where she was last seen. On June 27, 1995, 27 year old Jodi Huisentruit was supposed to be at the news station at 3:00am. When Jodi wasn’t there by 4:00am, the producer called Jodi and woke her up. Jodi said she overslept and would be in ASAP. When Jodi didn’t show up for the 6:00 newscast, the producer filled in for the hour show. When the newscast was over, the producer asked a coworker to call the police to do a welfare check. When police arrived at Jodi’s apartment complex, they saw signs of a struggle in the parking lot - it was pretty obvious that Jodi had been abducted. Police have never named any suspects or made any arrests in Jodi’s case. Her body has never been found, although she was declared legally dead in 2001. This is her story. In the fall of 2019 Tiffany Booth was starting anew. She’d moved states, had a job that she enjoyed and was about to meet a man who she thought she could spend the rest of her life with. But that man wouldn’t change her life for the better, instead, he would end it. The investigation that followed would be led in part by her family who, through their large network, was able to discover crucial leads in the case. In the span of 10 days Tiffany Booth’s case would go from being a missing person’s investigation to a homicide investigation to finally a national manhunt.
