Ep 43SK Tours of Maine on Growing Up in the Land of Stephen King

E

The standpipe. The sematary. The Jade. The gates. The world of Stephen King is vast and infinite, at least on paper. In reality, King's Dominion is nestled snuggly within Bangor, Maine, the third largest city in the seaside state and arguably its greatest source for tourism. After all, thousands of Constant Readers descend upon the New England town each year in the hopes of finding King's own stomping grounds. Over the past decade, SK Tours of Maine has helped them find answers on their journey, turning their imaginations into family memories. Today, SK Tours guide James Tinker joins the Losers to discuss the origins of his family's tour, share some hilarious local stories involving King, and describe what it was like growing up in what is essentially Derry, Maine. Spoiler: It was spooky!Want to book a trip? Start planning now!Follow us on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | PatreonHosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Ep 42Danse Macabre: Lord of the Flies

E

Danse Macabre is a recurring feature of The Losers' Club that journeys through all the books that influenced Stephen King. (You know, as he listed in 1981's Danse Macabre. Ahem, hence the name of this series.) What started last October with Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House continues with 1954's Lord of the Flies by Nobel Prize-winning British author William Golding. Join Dan Caffrey, Jenn Adams, Rachel Reeves, and Mel Kassel as they discuss Golding's influence on King's writing, dark children's narratives, and the politics of masculinity and violence. Fun fact: The Castle Rock name originated here.Follow us on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | PatreonHosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Ep 38Finding Stephen King at the End of Fear Street

E

Fear Street is on the mind lately, thanks to Netflix's new trilogy of films this month from director Leigh Janiak (see: Fear Street 1994, 1978, 1666). Because of this, the Losers have teamed up with Kelly Nugent and Lindsay Katai of the Teen Creeps podcast to chart their respective journeys from Shadyside to King's Dominion -- a journey familiar to many. Beyond King, however, the four discuss their Fear Street origins, their favorite titles, the recurring themes and motifs of the series, and why Stine's work continues to resonate with newer generations today. They also weigh in on Janiak's trilogy and debate whether or not the films capture the spirit and tone of the books. So, a lot to unpack here.Follow us on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | PatreonHosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 34Castle Rock Season 3, Episode 1: Act 1

E

One night as the Losers were asleep in the clubhouse they share in Derry, Maine, a mysterious knock came at the door. Upon opening it, they discovered not a person, but a bundle of decaying, handwritten pages. After transcribing them by candlelight, the Losers realized they were reading the teleplay for the lost first episode of Season 3 of Hulu’s Castle Rock. Naturally, your humble hosts sought to bring the script to life in the best way they know how: By turning it into a podcast with no affiliation whatsoever to Hulu or the creators. Today, The Losers' Club is proud to present the first of the audio drama's three acts, which begin with the arrivals of a Dark Man, a beleaguered detective, a fire-spewing vigilante, a psychic drifter, and horror’s most famous vintage automobile. It's a story as engrossing as it is asinine, and littered with more Easter eggs than you can count on, well, 19 hands. Stream the first episode now and stay tuned for Act II and Act III to follow in the coming weeks. Rest assured, all three acts will be stitched together as one long episode come August.Production by Cat Blackard. Edited by Kyle Orozovich. Ep 21So, We Watched The Dark Tower Pilot

E

The man in black fled across the desert, and the Losers followed. In 2019, MRC and executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara attempted a pivot to the small screen with a more faithful reimagining of King's work. By dialing back to the origins of the series (see: 1997's prequel novel Wizard and Glass), Mazzara envisioned a multi-season arc for Amazon and director Stephen Hopkins shot the pilot in Croatia. Sadly, the streaming giant passed on the series in early 2020, leaving the 60-minute pilot in limbo. Fans were in turmoil. Recently, however, The Losers' Club was fortunate enough to screen the pilot, and gathered together to palaver over what they saw.Bonus: The Losers also spoke to Mazarra himself, who regaled them with insightful behind-the-scenes anecdotes and piles of notes for what could have been future episodes and seasons. Without spoiling anything, Mazarra truly remembered the face of his father, and the entire saga more or less amounts to a painful What If? in King's Dominion. The sun is setting and the Losers make one last stop to examine Stephen King's Desperation and Richard Bachman's The Regulators.
