In this clear, beautiful biblical teaching we learn from God’s Word that we must put away selfishness to cultivate a heart of humility. Until we die to self and selfishness, we can never walk in humility and live for the Lord.The sin of selfishness has no place in a believer’s life.  It is ungodly, sinful behavior. In this powerful episode, Kevin Jackson shares with us his strong unwavering faith in the Lord, when he is struck with tragedy.Kevin Jackson was born in Houston, Texas. His family moved to Burton, Texas when he was eleven years old. He grew up in a loving home. Kevin shared that his childhood was the best! His father was a hard worker, and he loved his children. Kevin was raised in the church. His uncle, Johnny, was a preacher. He lived next door to them. He made sure Kevin and his siblings went to Sunday school and church regularly. Kevin is still a committed Christian and enjoys witnessing to the lost.As a young child, Kevin, remembers the choir singing old gospel hymns. There were no pianos or other instruments. Kevin was inspired by the music and felt close to the Lord by their singing.Kevin’s father was family oriented and made sure that knew their neighbors. He fostered strong family and community relationships.At about sixteen years of age, Kevin met Tanya at a high school dance. They fell in love and felt that they were inseparable. Kevin eventually went to live with Tanya’s family, at the age of 17, when he was suspended from high school. Tanya eventually conceived and gave birth to their first daughter, Briana. She conceived again and gave birth to Kayla. Although Kevin and Tanya separated, nevertheless, the girls were Kevin’s heart. Kayla eventually went to Blinn College. At the age of 22, Kayla decided to move to Houston.She had lived there for a few years and was working to support herself.One Saturday afternoon, Kevin received a phone call from the Houston Police Department. It caused him to feel numbness in his hands and fingertips. It felt as though he was going into shock.He knew he could not handle the information that he received in his own strength. In this beautiful episode, Michelle shares with us about her love for God, and His Word through her life challenges.Michelle Jackson Watts was born in Houston, Texas. Her family moved to Prairie View, Texas when she was in the first grade. She continued her education and college studies in Prairie View, Texas. She obtained her bachelor's degree in chemistry at Prairie View A& M University.Michelle has a deep passion and love for learning. She later pursued her graduate studies at Texas Tech University. She completed her graduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Chemistry, Industrial Engineering, and Instructional Technology. Her thesis was completed on Breast Cancer research in the Physiology Department. Michelle met her husband, Herman, of 30 years at a wedding.  They have five beautiful children. Her husband was saved at the time and served as a Deacon in the church. Michelle was saved about two months after they got married. She currently serves as an Interim Pastor’s Wife.  She is the founder of Living for Christ Ministries. She is also the gracious host of the Annual I Am retreat.Michelle taught Math at Memorial High School. She also worked part-time at Lone Star College and Houston Community College. She taught developmental and college level math.At the age of 40, Michelle was at the board when she felt her right hand get numb. Later that night, while at home she could not open the door or stand up.She went to the hospital the next day. In this wonderful, spiritually inspiring episode, Brittany shares with us how her strong faith in God helped her to win a battle of breast cancer.  Brittany Weyand was the only child born to her biological parents. She was somewhat a miracle baby! Her mother had two miscarriages before and two miscarriages after Brittany. Brittany was brought up in a loving Christian family. Although her mom and dad divorced when Brittany was 13 years old, nevertheless, her stepfather was also a God-fearing man. He adored Brittany and treated her with the utmost kindness, love, and respect. Brittany strongly believed that the Lord placed him in her life to walk her through life’s struggles. Brittany’s biological dad’s parents believed in the Lord and in miracles. She spent a lot of time with them on the weekends, working in the family floral business. She describes them as gentle and humble. They lived out their faith daily and always believed in encouraging people wherever they went.Brittany met her amazing husband, Justin, about 7 years ago through her best friend. Brittany was saved and recommitted her life to the Lord four years prior, at the age of 21. Brittany is active in her church and serves in Children’s Church with the Pre-K children.It was love at first sight for Justin. After marriage, they decided to wait for one year to start a family. Brittany was having some difficulties. They started in vitro fertilization. They lost two embryos to in vitro fertilization. It was not long before the medical professionals informed them that they would not be able to conceive.Shortly, thereafter, one night Brittany felt excruciating pain on the right side in her chest area. They were both saved when they got married.They attend Waller Baptist Church and have been serving in ministry for over 56 years. Donald serves in leadership as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He has taught the Men’s Sunday School class for the last 20 years.Eddie Raye has served in the music and bereavement ministries. She visits and prays for those that are sick. She has also faithfully attended Women’s Bible Studies. Eddie Raye has always been prepared to serve and help wherever there is a need. She and Donald have trusted the Lord to lead them in His service. They believe strongly and firmly in the power of prayer. In this beautifully inspired episode, Veronica shares about the legacy of faith in God, and the importance of strong family relationships, in the midst of tragedy. Veronica was born in Columbus, Texas and raised in Prairie View, Texas. She is the oldest of four siblings. She was brought up in a loving Christian home. They consistently attended church services, Sunday school, and Vacation Bible School. Veronica remembers as a child spending a lot of time on the weekends and holidays, at her grandparents’ home. They were godly grandparents, and they made sure they attended church regularly. Her grandparents were very family oriented. During their visits, they would make sure Veronica and her siblings got to know the rest of the family. Even years later, Veronica still does family research to stay connected with family. Her mom was a single parent and raised her four children alone. She was a registered nurse for Prairie View A&M University. She worked very hard, both full time and part time, to make ends meet. Veronica remembers her mom being very strict. As the oldest child, she had to help her siblings with their homework. Her mom wanted to make sure they were all independent. When they attended college, they were very responsible and had to work to help their mother with the bills. They also had to save their money for summer school, from the previous semester's Pell grants. Veronica’s mother relocated to Houston, Texas where she worked as a registered nurse at Texas Southern University. She eventually retired as a teacher in the Health Sciences Division. Veronica, her mom, and her siblings were very close. She spoke to her mom almost every day. On this particular Sunday, they both went to church. But after church, her nephew frantically tried to call her. In the wonderful episode, Vonda Logan shares her life’s challenges and struggles, after the Lord delivers her from a crack drug addiction and alcoholism. She shares so beautifully about what it means to have a real encounter with Jesus Christ.  Vonda Logan was born and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey. She has two brothers and three sisters. Vonda is the third oldest child. Her mother had her oldest brother at the age of 16. Vonda grew up in the projects and was raised in the streets. She was taught how to survive in the streets. As a teenager, she began drinking alcohol, stealing, partying and going out to night clubs. One night Vonda and some other friends got drunk and this was the night that her son was conceived. Vonda was 16 years old.The home environment where Vonda grew up was very bad. Both brothers, as teenagers were drug dealers. Her mom knew about it and allowed it to take place.After Vonda conceived and was left to raise her child and younger siblings, Vonda started smoking marijuana.She then entered the heavy drug scene and started selling crack cocaine.  Her curiosity about the drug users got the best of her. She began to wonder what kind of effect this drug had on people that would make them sell all their possessions to get high. So then, she tried the crack cocaine and became addicted.At the age of 19, she and her mom packed up, left New Jersey and moved to North Carolina. She was hoping that a change of environment would be good for her. It was not long before she realized her addictions followed her. Her mom’s friend brother was a drug addict and Vonda got back on crack cocaine.After about 3 years, her mom decided to move to Texas, after meeting a man on the road. In this powerful episode, Vonda Logan joins us as she boldly and unashamedly shares her life’s journey with us!  Vonda Logan was born and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey. She has five siblings and is the third oldest child. Her mother had her first child at the age of 16. Vonda’s maternal grandmother had 21 children. At an early age, Vonda spent a lot of time at her grandmother’s home, where several of her aunts and uncles lived. She remembers being left alone and sexually molested by her uncle. She never told anyone about it. Vonda grew up in the projects and was raised in the streets. There was no discipline, no authoritarian figure, or father in her home. Vonda was taught to survive in the streets and was told not to depend on anyone. As a teenager, she began drinking alcohol, stealing, partying, and going out to nightclubs. One night Vonda and her friends got drunk, in the basement of a friend’s home. It was on that night her son was conceived. Vonda was 16 years old. She was afraid to tell her mom, so she ran away from home. Once her mom found out about the pregnancy, she came to get Vonda and promised to help her raise the baby. She also promised to send Vonda to cosmetology school.The home environment where Vonda grew up was very bad. Both brothers, as teenagers, were drug dealers. Although her mom knew about it; nevertheless, she allowed it.Instead of helping Vonda, her mom took a job as an 18-wheeler driver. She left Vonda to care for her newborn and her younger siblings. Vonda was still drinking alcohol, and she started smoking marijuana.Her son’s father, for a couple of years, denied that the child belonged to him. His family pursued paternity tests, took Vonda to court, and obtained custody of her son.Vonda then entered the drug scene, as her brothers, and started selling crack cocaine.  Her curiosity got the best of her. She began to wonder what kind of effect this drug had on people that would make them sell all their possessions, to get high. So then, she tried crack and became addicted.At the age of 19, Vonda and her mom packed up, left New Jersey, and moved to North Carolina. She was hoping that a change of environment would be good for her. It was not too long before Vonda realized that her addictions had followed her. Her mom’s friend's brother was a drug addict, and Vonda got back on crack cocaine.After about 3 years, her mom decided to move to Texas, after meeting a man on the road. Vonda moved to Texas with her mom. Her addictive behaviors led to her facing jail and prison time. .... But GOD!!!! In this powerful episode, Catherine Johns joins us as she candidly opens up and shares her powerful testimony! Catherine was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. At the age of 3, Catherine and her two brothers were taken from their biological mother.  They were separated and placed in foster care.  After a short time in foster care, and by the grace of God, Catherine grandmother’s cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Johns, took them into their home.  Mr. and Mrs. Johns eventually adopted Catherine and her siblings. The Johns’ home that Catherine grew up in was very loving and stable.  Although Catherine does not recall all the traumatic events that happened to her as a child, nevertheless, she does remember she had fears of not getting enough food to eat.  She would hide food under her bed.   She also remembers that at the age of 7, she did not trust men.  Catherine’s family attended church regularly. She got saved and baptized, at the age of 10.Catherine served as a praise dancer, sang in the youth and adult choirs, and attended Sunday school and Bible study. During Catherine’s junior and high school years, she was attracted to older guys and started exploring sex.  Later, as a junior in high school, she met a young man in church.  He was a sophomore in college, at Prairie View A & M University.  She got serious about him and fell in love. They began a long-distance relationship.  She later noticed he had anger issues and became verbally and emotionally abusive. Instead of taking heed and exiting the relationship, Catherine applies for college at Prairie View A & M, to be with him.The relationship takes a major turn. In this beautiful episode, Michelle Lavin joins us to share her life’s journey with us. Michelle married her husband, Steve, at 19 years of age, in November 1980.  Michelle was raised as a Catholic, and Steve was brought up and attended the Church of Christ.After 5 years of marriage, Michelle and Steve had their first child and two children thereafter. After 7 years of marriage, Michelle eventually joined her husband’s church and received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  Steve was already saved at the age of 12.Michelle began to get serious about her relationship with the Lord and immediately started attending bible studies. They both loved and served the Lord in their local church. Steve served in a leadership position, as an Elder, and Michelle taught the children's bible study.  There were the ideal Christian couple. They were loving and well respected.Michelle was a stay-at-home mom, and Steve worked as a Production Operations Manager at a local TV station. They both had dreams and goals of advancing their education and obtaining college degrees.  Michelle’s heart’s desire was to become a registered nurse. Steve’s dream was to become a math teacher.When Michelle was in her 30s, Steve supported and encouraged her to go to nursing school.  She completed her nursing education and became a registered nurse.  Immediately upon graduation, Michelle was hired as an RN, in the acute dialysis unit, at a local hospital. She absolutely loved her job!  She was fulfilling her dreams!Eventually, Steve started attending college in hopes of fulfilling his dreams! During this same time, the Lord blessed them with the purchase of a new home.  Their children were 8, 11, and 13 years of age. Life was just wonderful!And then one Sunday afternoon, after returning home from church, their DREAMS were SHATTERED.  Michelle was 39 years old, at the time. She felt a stabbing pain in the back of her head, took five steps, and fell backwards on their bed. Her left side was totally numb. She was taken to the hospital and later discovered she had a stroke.Their lives would never be the same again.
