They contribute to winning together. Success is fleeting. It's not a final destination. If you want to have a winning team, you have to be a connected team. Many teams that win and then don't win again, it's because they become disconnected. It doesn't matter if you excel but your team loses. Stop chasing everyone opinion of what success should look like for you. Chase your success. You don't think of mistakes and failures as opportunities when they are happening but God uses them to better us and help us to become who we were created to be. Everybody goes through struggle. It's the struggle that makes us stronger (if we let it). Success is helping others grow.

You can always change your circumstances. No one creates success alone. You have to have a sense of where you want to go and the courage to say it out loud. It's the roads that we don't take that give us the greatest regret. To never have tried is far worse than trying and not making it. As a leader, you have to connect people to a common belief. Give people and excuse to say YES! Don't let the 20% of negative people distract you from serving the 80% of positive people. You have to create a positive belief system. How a Former College QB Sentenced to Life in Prison Transformed His World | Damon West
His story is one of the most inspiring that you will hear. The true story of a well-raised kid, a three-year starting quarterback, a young person filled with potential…until a shocking addiction took hold. Sentenced to sixty-five years in a Texas prison, Damon West once had it all. He came from a great family, in a home full of God, love, support, and opportunities to reach any goal. A natural born leader, an athlete with good looks and charm, he appeared to be the all-American kid pursuing his dreams. Underneath this facade, however, was an addict in the early stages of disease. After suffering childhood sexual abuse by a babysitter at the age of nine, Damon began putting chemicals into his body to alter the way he felt. Once he was introduced to methamphetamines, however, he became instantly hooked—and the lives of so many innocent people would forever be changed by the choices he made in order to feed his insatiable meth habit. After a fateful discussion during his incarceration with a seasoned convict, Damon had a spiritual awakening. He learned that, like a coffee bean changing with the application of heat and pressure, he was capable of changing the environment around him. Armed with a program of recovery, a renewed faith, and a miraculous second chance at life, Damon emerged from over seven years of prison a changed man. His story of redemption continues to inspire audiences today. A Positive Moment: 10 Thoughts About Leadership
A Positive Moment is a short mid-week message from Jon Gordon as part of the Positive University Podcast. In this message Jon shares 10 Thoughts About Leadership: -- Whether you are a leader of a business, team, hospital, sports team, classroom, church or home, I hope you'll be encouraged to be a better leader. 1. People follow the leader first and the leader's vision second - It doesn't matter if the leader shares a powerful vision, if the leader is not someone who people will follow the vision will never be realized. As a leader, who you are makes a difference. The most important message you can share is yourself. 2. Trust is the force that connects people to the leader and his/her vision - Without trust there is a huge gap between the leader and the vision. Without trust people will stay off the bus. However if people trust the leader they will hop on the bus with the leader and help move the bus forward towards the vision. 3. Leadership is not just about what you do but what you can inspire, encourage and empower others to do. 4. A leader brings out the best within others by sharing the best within themselves. 5. Just because you're driving the bus doesn't mean you have the right to run people over - Abraham Lincoln said "Most anyone can stand adversity, but to test a man's character give him power." The more power you are granted the more it is your responsibility to serve, develop and empower others. When you help them grow they'll help you grow. 6. "Rules without Relationship Leads to Rebellion" - Andy Stanley said this and it's one of my favorite quotes. As a leader you can have all the rules you want but if you don't invest in your people and develop a relationship with them they will rebel. This applies amazingly to children as well. It's all about relationships. 7. Lead with optimism, enthusiasm and positive energy, guard against pessimism and weed out negativity. 8. Great Leaders know they don't have all the answers - Rather they build a team of people who either know the answers or will find them. 9. Leaders inspire and teach their people to focus on solutions, not complaints. (The No Complaining Rule) 10. Great leaders know that success is a process not a destination - One of my heroesJohn Wooden, the legendary UCLA basketball coach, never focused on winning. He knew that winning was the by product of great leadership, teamwork, focus, commitment and execution of the fundamentals. As a leader focus on your people and process, not the outcome.

Trent Shelton | Becoming The Greatest You
Bestselling author Jon Gordon talks with former NFL wide-receiver turned life coach, Trent Shelton. A few takeaways from this episode: Make sure you are a reflection of what you say you stand for. Give yourself permission to be great. Your job is not your identity. You are more. My hardest times have built my strongest faith. The plan I have for my life might not be the bigger plan God has. Your worth isn't found in external things. Trust the process. Enjoy the journey. There is a purpose in your pain. Every day brings a chance at a new beginning. It all starts with a choice. Don't have a BC mindset (blaming and complaining). Focus on what you CAN control. Let go of everything else. Focus on ONE change that you can control. One change today leads to another change tomorrow. ABOUT TRENT: Trent Shelton is a former NFL wide receiver that is now considered one of the most impactful speakers of this generation. Coach Brendan Suhr | Creating Buy-In and Being the Best Coach in Business, Sports and Life
In this episode of Positive University, bestselling author Jon Gordon talks with Coach Brendan Suhr, one of the most respected figures in basketball with nearly 30 years as a coach and executive in the NBA and 13 seasons as a coach at the collegiate level. Jon and Coach Suhr talk about Creating Ultimate Buy-In, Maximizing Talent, Bringing Out the Best in Others (and Yourself), Being the Best Coach in Business, Sports and Life… and much more. This message applies to leadership, team building, coaching, parenting and any area of life where you lead others. A few takeaways from this interview: There's no limit to hard work. If you want to be a winner, you have to be willing to do the work. You can't skip steps. Value the sacrifice. It helps you become and develop into the person you need to be. Be open and willing to learn. Never underestimate the power of relationships. Invest in others and have others invest in you. Your work ethic, enthusiasim and positivity can surpass almost anything. Be comfortable enough to have greatness around you. Hire the best people possible. To be a good coach you must learn to connect with people. Internal leadership is important for an organization to grow. The lost art of holding each other accountable. To create Buy-In you have to create Believe-In (value others opinions, don't tell them everything to do, let them contribute). Take personal responsibility. Don't try to always blame others. What is your role in it? Shout praise, whisper criticism. Don't just tell people what they should do. Show them how. When someone makes a mistake, correct the behavior. Don't berate the person. Command and Control is the old way. It's now about Seek to Connect. To develop people, you have to be connected to them. Your credibility and competency contribute to buy-in. You people have to believe in you to buy-into what you're saying. If you're not learning from those you lead, you're doing it wrong. The notoriety of a coach comes from the execution of the players. It's never about you. It's about your team, your employee, your child, or whomever you are responsible to lead. About Brendan Suhr: https://coachbrendansuhr.com/ | http://coachingulive.com Coach Brendan Suhr is viewed as one of the most respected figures in basketball with nearly 30 years as a coach and executive in the NBA and 13 seasons as a coach at the collegiate level. The power of One Word is for you, your family, and your team. One Word's power is found in its simplicity. How to find your One Word: Look in - Unplug from the busyness and distractions. Ask yourself: What do I need? What's in my way? What's got to go? Look up - Looking towards your creator for direction. Look out - Finding ways to live out your word. One Word is powerful alone but an even greater power is unleashed when you get a Stretch Team: A handful of people who can HELP YOU live your word.
