50 States, 50 Marathons, 50 Weeks Nearly Complete with Derek Zardus!

I am so excited that I got to spend a day with my friend and previous guest Derek Zardus! He has been running all over the country and closing in on his goal of 50 marathons. He was passing through my area on his way to the Atlantic City Marathon. Listen to the episode to find out all of the progress he has made over the past year! About Derek Zardus Derek Zardus’ mantra on the road is the running equivalent of Carolina Pulled Pork – Low and Slow. He believes we can run and improve ourselves without destroying the machinery that propels us forward. Downshifting on general runs by running and walking allows us to run more regularly and more consistently without the common maladies that plague many runners: shin spints, plantar faceitious, Ilio Tibial Band Syndrome, etc. Derek started running consistently about six years ago and suffered from a wide variety of those common problems until recovery from a herniated disc led him to commit to consistent run/walk strategies. Since then, he has completed 3 official marathons (Burlington VT, Bay of Fundy International, and Newport RI), paced a friend as race support for the Sugarloaf ME marathon, and completed 4 other marathon distances this past year as training for his 2016 goal of running 50 classic marathon routes in 50 states in 50 weeks. Derek has also paced a variety of half marathons with Beast Pacing starting in March of 2015. Connect with Derek Zardus! GloboRun.com Episode 266

Filip Valica is Helping Entrepreneurs with their Passions of Creating Products

About Filip Valica Filip Valica has been a mechanical engineer and engineering manager for over 12 years, designing, testing, and building products from cradle to grave. He has worked for a broad range of companies – from mom-and-pop small businesses to some of the largest corporations in the US. His hands-on point of view resonates with other action-oriented small business owners and entrepreneurs. Filip is the founder of The Product Startup, a site that provides a step-by-step blueprint to aspiring product creators wanting to bring their ideas to market. Through interviews with successful small business owners, inventors, and Shark Tank winners, he explores the intersection of his interests and experience: DIY Product Development. Along with his mother, Filip immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia when he was 7 years old with two suitcases and $80 in cash. They left behind all of their family and almost all of their possessions. His journey and success in the United States is proof that it’s possible to create your own luck through hard work. At an early age, he became "man-of the house" and was responsible for home maintenance. After college he pooled his savings, borrowed money from his friends, bought an inhabitable foreclosure and spent 2 years to make it livable. Filip lives in Houston, TX with his wife and daughter. After his daughter was born, he realized that he needed to focus on his passion and The Product Startup launched soon after. He believes anyone can develop a product using recent advances in technology and tools, and by following the same road map many other companies use to commercialize their ideas. On his podcast, Filip interviews other founders and shows listeners a how they can built their products, brands, and companies on a tight budget. Connect with Filip Valica! I struggled before I learned how to listen to my inner voice!

https://youtu.be/7eAFpMTXAWA Today I talk about the difficult time I had finding and figuring out how to listen to my inner voice. I struggled for nearly a year talking with a therapist looking for validation and permission. Finally, I figured out that I needed to search harder within myself and listen to my inner voice. That was when everything started to change for me, very rapidly and eventually it has gotten much easier! Also, shout out to my man Eric P. Derrick Kwa is an entrepreneur on a mission!

About Derrick Kwa At 16, I felt like I was stuck in a rut - going through the motions of school everyday, just because it was what people expected me to do and what everyone else did. So I left school. I had no network and no idea what I would do. I just knew I had to do something different, and start living life on my terms. It was extremely scary. But I did it anyway. I took one small step at a time, and I managed to overcome those fears. And I'm pretty happy with the results. Some of the things I’ve done since then that I’ve most proud of include: - Completing a virtual internship with Seth Godin - Being one of the first 100 graduates of Seth Godin’s altMBA program - Traveling to 10 countries in two years - Playing in professional poker tournaments against some of my favorite celebrity players - Co-organizing the Social Media Breakfast | Singapore - Participating in the StartupBus 2011 - Contributing to the Age of Conversation 2 - Starting Thousand True Fans, a marketing agency where we worked with brands like QuickBooks Asia and ONI Global I'm a huge believer in pursuing your passions, and going after the life that you love. And I want to inspire and help others to do just that. So now, I run PassionBlueprint - a podcast featuring amazing people who have taken the step out to pursue their passions. They share the blueprint they used to take that step out - how they overcame the fears they faced, the first steps they took, the lessons they learned - to show others how they can do the same for themselves. Stop Treadmilling on Zero in YOUR Business!

https://youtu.be/4ry2CXgfSr0 In business it can be hard to see how all of the little wins add up to big wins. I want you to stop treadmilling on zero with your business and add up all of the sales and wins that you've had for the calendar year. So when someone stops you and asks how it is going, you KNOW how it is going. You are left guessing, leaving doubt in the other person's mind that you know what you are doing. It can hurt your thought process too if you constantly feel like you aren't making money or enough money. Stop looking for that home run when it comes to sales and success (whatever success looks like to you). I will talk about success in an upcoming episode! On a side note, I hope you are all enjoying these mini episodes that I am publishing to YouTube. Please let me know what you think in the comments or shoot me an email. :) Have a magical weekend! Travis Wolfe Overcoming All Of Life’s Obstacles To Pursue His Dream

I met Travis Wolfe a few months back when I spoke at the Kiddiepreneur Expo. His son, Travis, came up to me to ask questions about my books that I had for sale. He immediately wanted to go get his dad and bring him over because he seen we had a lot in common. Boy was he right! I got to have both Travis Wolfe and his daughter Aniya Wolfe over to my house to record episodes soon after. In this episode we talk quite in depth about what it is like to be a black cop in America with the current climate of tension going on. You really just have to give it a listen! About Travis Wolfe Travis Wolfe was born in (west) Philadelphia, PA but spent a lot of his life growing up in multiple towns in New Jersey. With both of his parents being addicted to drugs and his father also being addicted to alcohol, Wolfe, along with his siblings were placed into the foster care system by their family members. Wolfe bounced around between multiple foster homes and a group home between the ages of 8 and 12 years old, during which time he was a victim of physical abuse and rape. In between those years, Wolfe and his siblings had gotten out of the foster care system when his great aunt took them into her home; but Wolfe was placed back into the system because of his behavioral issues. By 1996, Wolfe’s father had gotten clean and sober and had gotten Wolfe out of the system. His father introduced him to the teachings of the bible and encouraged Travis to live a holy lifestyle. It was through those teachings that he developed his spiritual foundation. In 1999, after a dispute with his father, he ran away from home and ended up in Lawnside, NJ with his great aunt, again. Between that time and 2002, He had been kicked out of 6 different homes of friends and family that had taken him in. In 2002, after making a decision to turn his life around, Wolfe graduated from Haddon Heights High School, with honors, and attended Temple University. In 2003, he co-founded a community service organization called GoodFellaz at the university which won the top student organization award “Best Organization” in 2006. Wolfe met his wife Diana Cherubin in 2004 at a Dunkin’ Donuts on the campus. In 2007, he left Temple University to join the Philadelphia Police Department and In late 2007, he reapplied to Temple University and graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In 2013, at 29 years old, Wolfe joined the United States Army and graduated Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, OK with honors and among the top in his class in Physical Fitness, scoring the coveted 300 mark on the Army Physical Fitness Test. He had turned 30 years old while in Basic Combat Training. While in the Army’s Officer Candidate School, an Injury forced him to be separated from the Army. He received an Uncharacterized Discharge in 2014. Jan. 31, 2014, Wolfe was promoted to Sergeant with the Philadelphia Police Department. He served in some of the worst violent crime areas in the city. He is a decorated member of the department in which he still currently serves. Wolfe has done work with community organizations either by dedicating his personal time or as a member of the department. This includes work with the Special Olympics, youth organizations and mentoring organizations throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey. In 2015, Travis made the decision that he was going to “change the world.” He pursued this worthy ideal and opined that by empowering society to change their mindset and attain success in their individual lives, his ideal would come to fruition on a grand scale. Garnering inspiration from his life’s story and personal life experiences; which include, being a victim of child abuse, sexual abuse and sexual assault (rape), homelessness, poverty, the foster care system and drug/alcohol addicted parents; his goal is to empower everyone from youth to senior to overcome their victimization, eliminate excuses and achieve greatness and success in their lives....

How do you stay motivated?

Today I am answering a question of, “How do you stay motivated?” by Paulo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsbo8AomOO8 I have always tried to stay goal oriented in my work. I set expectations and I don’t always succeed in them. It is those cracks in the pavement that we fall into while on the path to our goals and dreams. Something that has never motivated me is the promise of more money or wealth. Money doesn’t mean anything to me. Sure, I do love technology (since I was very little), I do love music (since I was little), and other things. Most of the fun is in the journey of looking at what to buy, not the fact that I have money to buy something I want. I’m not saying that everyone should not be motivated by money, like me. But it is so important to know what gets your fire burning to get you moving every morning to make the donuts. I work, to work more. I love to create and be able to express myself in many different mediums and multiple levels. I don’t consider myself an artist, but I do create art in many ways. Being myself is one of the most important aspects to life. Society starts with you, so if you put yourself in your happy place, then you can make others happy around you. Your impact on this world will be immeasurable! Right before Ava was about to be born, quite a few people told me that my life would finally have meaning and I would see things differently. Now that I have a daughter and family to support on the things I create, everything would be somehow different. I can say with confidence, while some of my focus has shifted towards spending more time with my wife and our daughter, it has not suddenly given my life meaning. At least not in the way that many seem to think having a baby should, or did for them. My outlook on how I utilize my time has changed quite a bit in the first six months of her life. I have even opened my eyes to the idea that time is not the only most valuable resource we have, but energy. Limiting my activities so that I can make sure that I have enough sleep to be here for Ava throughout the day and night has been a struggle for to me. As I’ve said before, as professional entrepreneurs we really are professional problem solvers. It is so important to remember that we don’t have all of the answers, but we need to be willing to learn and grow as we take missteps and fall into those cracks in the sidewalk. Do what makes you happy, worry about your world and the things that you can control (you are in control of everything in your life!!!) You will find that your motivation to keep pushing forward will come to you over time as you enjoy your journey more. I want to know how you stay motivated! Leave your stories and tips in the comments below so we can help each other go further in life! episode 247

Kat Loterzo: Successful Business Coach, Bestselling Author and more!

Kat Loterzo is a business coach, bestselling author, speaker & mentor to revolutionary leaders who want it all, on their terms! Kat Loterzo is a business mentor and coach based on the Gold Coast, in Australia. She is also the author of over 30 books and she's the embodiment of what you might call a content marketing "machine". She built a seven figure fitness business online. While it was very successful monetarily and her clients got great results, it also resulted in burnout for Kat. She found she didn't like working with the traditional "internet marketing" methods. She even participated in many high level Masterminds but they didn't offer the solution she was looking for. So, she took some time off to reassess what she wanted to do and how to grow her business in an authentic way that is wildly successful, and yet doesn't feel forced or contrived, especially when it comes to marketing and sales. She accomplished this within a matter of months and has been running her business accordingly ever since. Today, through her business mentoring program and membership site, she works with thought leaders, coaches, and online entrepreneurs who are super smart and who have a meaningful message to share. Her clients are getting amazing results, and Kat herself runs a successful seven figure business. I'm most impressed by how she's able to do all this while also paying attention to other aspects of her life: stay in great physical shape, be available as a Mom for her little kids, produce a movie and work with Gary Vaynerchuk as part of his "street team". Kat is a leader and she is super focused on getting things done effectively, at scale, with impeccable sales skills, while also staying truly connected to her tribe and understanding her audience's wants and needs. She'd be a great person to interview because even though a lot of people use the word "authentic" in relation to what they teach, Kat is one of the few who actually walks the walk, and delivers outstanding results while sticking with her integrity and only promoting in a way that she truly believes in. www.katloterzo.com Shoot me your questions to [email protected] Episode 240

He believes that if you have a dream you should do all that it takes in order to live out that dream and not be stuck in a situation that makes you unhappy. He hopes that he can be a light to the world through his actions and all that he is doing in his career. Alex identifies strongly with the quote by Ghandi, "Be the change you want to see in the world." This quote is what inspires him to live his life making solutions instead of complaining about what is and isn't going right in the world. After losing his mother in the sixth grade due to breast cancer he realized how important life was and he also learned at an early age to value every second we have because you never know when your time will be up. She is the reason for his joy and why he continues to be motivated even through the toughest of times in his life. Alex knows that he wouldn't be where he is today without his faith and the many people who have pushed him and cheered him on along the way. He is very thankful for where he is today and hopes that through his actions he will change the world one day, or at least change one person so they can go on to change what he couldn't! Successful Serial Entrepreneur Robert Hartline

Robert Hartline's experience has helped him build a $24 Million revenue a year company! Robert Hartline is an experienced and successful serial entrepreneur based out of the Greater Nashville Area, with a total of $24 Million in revenue a year. In 1998 he started his first company, Absolute Wireless, which now owns and operates 15 wireless retail stores throughout Tennessee as well as 2 Dang It Repair locations specializing in phone and technology repair services. Robert is also the founder of CallProof, a smartphone application dedicated to maximizing the efficiency of outside sales teams for businesses all over the United States. Robert has many case studies and examples he shared with me where he's been able to help small businesses grow by training and growing their sales team using his methodology. Eric Patrick Thomas Is Here to #Inspire Us To Be More and Do More No Matter Our Limitations!

Eric Patrick Thomas is an ambassador The D-Man Foundation which runs a barrier free music studio located in Berkley,MI.! Eric Patrick Thomas, a young motivated, ambitious businessman, leads a busy life. As well as the leading force behind "EZ Awareness By Design", specializing in graphic design, custom apparel, signage, and vinyl banners, he is a public speaker, philanthropist, volunteer and advocate for the disabled. His keen business sense began before the early age of ten when he started renting his Nintendo video games in the neighborhood. Music has always been an influence in Eric’s life from writing to recording his album with the Hip Hop group “Mizcellaneous”. Appreciation and the love of music and photography eventually led Eric to Lansing Community College where he pursued a degree in photography and broadcasting after graduating from Clio High School in 1996. A random shooting on the fateful night of September 20, 1997 changed Eric's life forever. A young man with dreams of a career in music or photography learned that life is not always fair. Left paralyzed from the neck down by a bullet to the C3 and C4 vertebrates; Eric spent several months on a ventilator with a halo screwed to his head to support his neck fighting for his life. Upon being released from the hospital Eric spent the next six months in rehabilitation at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado learning to cope with his new circumstances. Doctors recommended an assisted living center after leaving the hospital, but with the support of his family he made the transition from rehabilitation to his mother’s and stepfather’s home. Thanks to the hard work of his stepfather many changes and modifications were made to the home so that Eric could navigate throughout the structure. With the support of Disability Network, a self-determination living arrangement (SDLA) was developed. Having a SDLA permitted Eric to hire his own staff and set goals and dreams using the person centered plan process, allowing Eric to live independently in his own environment. Eric's portfolio resonates with a vast variety of activities from public speaking to managing his graphic design company. His list of charitable works involve everything from Toys for Tots, Relay for Life, Coats For Kids, Food Bank Of Eastern Michigan, American Heart Association, president for the Flint Film Festival, co-founder of Wheels 4 Wheels, local leader for Michigan Partners for Freedom and an ambassador for Danny’s Miracle Angel Network (D-Man). Eric does not view his life as a burden but it’s an opportunity to help other individuals with disabilities. Some of the most rewarding moments of his life include testifying at both House and Senate hearings at the local, state, and national level, for the advancement of care and rights for people with disabilities. He believes in providing both financial means and access to affordable health care. These things will allow disabled individuals to live independently, and is a motivating factor thatpromotes his voice for those in need. Eric is not content to simply let the world pass by. He is constantly planning new opportunities that will enrich not only his life but those less fortunate. Goodwill Industries has provided Eric with affordable space for his business EZ Awareness By Design. With the support of Genesee Health System, supportive employment, and a Self Determination Living Arrangement Eric is able to have his own house, own his own business, and access to quality of care that provides him with the independence to be responsible for his own destiny.
