Our guest presenter was Lindiwe Matlali, social entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Africa Teen Geeks. Matlali founded Africa Teen Geeks in 2014 – a non-profit organisation that provides coding lessons to school children and unemployed youth. 13 year old Mpho Mahlala, is one of the most promising fencing talents to come out of Soweto & Hawkins Mkhatshwa is the Founder of the Soweto Fencing Club and Deputy Chairperson of the Gauteng Fencing Association.They both spoke about being part of the Soweto Fencing Club and Mpho recently winning a gold medal at a recent competition.

Our Thought Leaders were Suvi Ramphal - Member of the Strategic Water Partners Network (SWPN) and Chair of the South African Young Water Professionals and Darren Hayes-Powell, chairperson of the South African Tyre Manufacturing Conference.Suvi spoke about The 5th Annual Water Stewardship Event which took place last week and Darren spoke about a recent report conducted by a major tyre manufacturer, which revealed that more than 60% of second tyres sold in South Africa are illegal.

We spoke to Roushanna Gray, founder of Veld and Sea. Roushanna is a wild food innovator and avid forager. She spoke to us about teaching about indigenous edible foods through immersive experiences, connection and creativity. Based at the Good Hope Gardens Nursery in Cape Point, Veld and Sea offers seasonal and sustainable foraging classes, workshops and collaborative nature inspired events for public and private groups

INTERVIEW–6TH OLIVER TAMBO MEMORIAL LECTURE
Congresswoman Maxine Waters spoke to us about delivering the sixth Oliver Tambo Memorial Lecture which commemorates late struggle icon, consummate diplomat and doyen of democracy, Oliver Reginald Tambo, who would have turned 102 years old on 27 October 2019. In 1986, as a member of the California Assembly, Rep. Waters called for the divestment of funds from corporations doing business with South Africa's apartheid regime and helped to make the call for divestment a national movement sweeping from state to state and city to city. She did this by authoring Assembly Bill 134, to divest a record $12 billion from public pension funds in California, thus fortifying California's opposition to the apartheid regime.

InstitutMarquès presented at the World Congress “Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology” in Berlin, its study on the reactions of foetuses to different types of music.

Our guest presenter was James Delaney, contemporary painter , printmaker and sculptor. James recently won a Business Arts South Africa Award for his sculptures installed in The Wilds, a previously neglected park on the edge of downtown Johannesburg which he has rehabilitated.His chosen guests were Dawn Robertson- Chief Executive of The Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct and Joe Leshoka Legate - Master Printer and Founder of Lithography Editions. Rebone Ntsie- Dietition and Director for Nutrition at the National Department of Health, spoke about National Nutrition Week, observed from 9 to 15 October and National Obesity observed from 15 to 19 October 2019 respectively. According to statistics, almost 70% of women and 40% of men are either overweight or obese. She discussed the importance of eating healthy.

INTERVIEW – AFRISAM STUDENT AWARD FOR SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Hashim Tarmahomed- Honours STUDENT at Wits University spoke to us about winning the AfriSam Student Award for Sustainable Design. The award is a programme for architecture students and candidate architects across South Africa that aims to inspire students to apply their learning of sustainable and innovative solutions to existing structures.

GUEST PRESENTER – LINDIWE SANGWENI-SIDDO
Our guest presenter was Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Manager Lindiwe Sangweni Siddo . She spoke about being in the hospitality industry since 1987 when she studied at the renowned hospitality school, Ecole Les, in Switzerland. We were also joined by Zengeziwe Msimang, the CEO of the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation and Dali Tambo, Activist, Filmmaker, TV-personality, businessman and son of the late Oliver Tambo.

75-year- Emmanuel Gasa spoke to us about being recently admitted as an attorney by Gauteng High Court in Pretoria. We were also joined by his mentor, Brandon Tshabangu who gave him a chance to do his articles.

Mahlatsi Mokgonyana, director of Rhinoceros, spoke about the theatre production which is written by celebrated French-Romanian playwright Eugène Ionesco, and directed by The Theatre Duo. The play takes place at the Ramolao Makhene Theatre in Johannesburg from 4 to 20 October.

Seven year old chess boffin, Mpho Bowers and his father Justin Bowers joined us in studio to talk about being a highly rated chess champion. Mpho is currently training for the African Youth Chess Championships in Windhoek, Namibia where he will be the youngest member of Team South Africa.

Our Thought Leaders were author Fred Khumalo, and Siphelele Mjadu – Unilever spokesperson. Fred Khumalo spoke about his long march this week to commemorate 7,000 Zulu men, women and children who walked from Johannesburg to Durban during the Anglo-Boer war. Siphelele Mjadu spoke about the International Day of the Girl Child, which took place on Friday 11th October, which aims to recognise girls’ rights, as well as the unique everyday challenges they face around the world.
