Today’s guest is Nick Norris. Nick is a Navy SEAL combat veteran, entrepreneur, and mental health advocate. During his ten years with the Teams, Nick made several combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. After suffering severe depression from his time in combat and the death of his brother, Nick sought help that did not involve antidepressants. He found help from Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions (VETS), a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide resources, research, and advocacy for U.S. military veterans seeking psychedelic-assisted therapies. Today’s guest is former CIA case officer Doug Patteson. Doug retired from the CIA after serving multiple overseas tours where he specialized in human intelligence and counterterrorism. Today’s guest is former Army Special Mission Unit Operator and combat veteran Craig “Chili” Palmer. Chili served in the 75th Ranger Regiment in both 1st Battalion and the Regimental Reconnaissance Company. On today’s episode, Jack is joined by Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler and special operations veteran Kevin Holland. Kevin is a special operations veteran who has the distinction of serving in both the Navy’s and Army’s Special Mission Units. Between his time in the SEAL Teams and 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta, Kevin worked as a game warden in North Carolina. Following his time in the military he operated with other government agencies and non-governmental organizations in conflict zones around the world. Daniel Winkler is a Master Bladesmith who started making knives in 1975. Daniel created the tomahawks and knives for the 1992 film The Last of the Mohicans. After seeing the film, Kevin tracked Daniel down to make the axe that was on his side for every deployment. In 2004 and 2005, he worked as a private security contractor in Iraq, responsible for the protection of eight Iraqi Election Commissioners. On April 20, 2005, his PSD was caught in an ambush on Route Irish between the Green Zone and Baghdad International Airport. Three members of his team were killed. Kara Frederick serves as the director of The Tech Policy Center at The Heritage Foundation focusing her research on “Big Tech” and emerging technology policy. She previously served as a counterterrorism analyst at the Department of Defense and was a Senior Intelligence Analyst for a U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command, deploying to Afghanistan three times in support of special operations forces. Douglas London is a retired senior CIA operations officer and the author of the book The Recruiter: Spying and the Lost Art of American Intelligence. Doug served as a U.S. Marine before joining the Central Intelligence Agency in 1984 where he worked for 34 years – 17 years on either side of 9/11. His job was the clandestine collection of HUMINT: intelligence that comes from people who provide secrets valuable to the United States. By virtue of recruiting spies for an equal number of years on either side of 11 September 2001, Doug offers a unique perspective on the Agency pre and post that seminal date in history. He served in the Middle East, South and Central Asia, and Africa including three assignments as a chief of station, the president’s senior advisor at post, and chief of base in a conflict zone. Assignments at CIA Headquarters included executive positions at the Agency’s Counterterrorism Center, Information Operations Center, and Near East and South Asia Division. He is the recipient of the CIA’s Career Intelligence Medal.
