Ep 923Let’s Learn About Quantum Computing! | Quantum Physic Sounds Like Magic But Its Applications In Computing Are Getting Quite Real In Our Everyday Life | An Audio Signals Conversation With Professor Doug Tougaw
If you are fascinated by quantum computing but do not know much about it, this podcast is an excellent place to start. Professor Doug Tougaw is very patient and extremely well versed in explaining those fundamental and more complicated questions you may have about this topic. “If you can think about quantum theory without getting dizzy, you don’t get it.” — Niels BohrBohr was a pioneer in the field and one of the first people to describe the weird things that burst from quantum theory. This was a while back, and things still sound weird and tough to understand and explain, even after many years and many accomplishments in quantum mechanics and application. Nevertheless, scientists and engineers are able to do amazing things with it. Computing is one of them.We have heard of quantum computing for a while now, and you may wonder if we are there yet. Are we? Looks like we are really getting there, with all the entanglements, superpositions, dead and alive cats, and all the weird things too.Join us to learn some quantum physics basics and what can be the concrete applications in our everyday life in the near and a bit more far future. It may sound like magic, and maybe it is.But are we there yet? 😬About DougDoug Tougaw is a professor in and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Valparaiso University. His main area of research interest is in the field of Quantum Cellular Automata (QCA). He was awarded the "Best Regional Paper" award at the 2007 Conference of the American Society of Engineering Educators. He was also runner-up for the USA National IEEE Young Engineer award. Ep 919The Impact Of Digital Experiences On Adolescents With Mental Health Vulnerabilities | Redefining Society With Sonia Livingstone
Since when technology has entered our daily life, every new generation of parents has to deal with their children's education on how to use and not to use it. Things got more complicated, from not listening to Rock'n'roll music to not watching too much TV to video games and now everything the internet brings us. "No" is the easy button but not the correct one. It is a complex world online, and it has become harder and harder to understand the dynamics that shape our interaction with this new techno reality. It is even harder for adolescents, and it gets even more complex when we consider those groups of adolescents facing mental health problems.“Public and policy debates often link rising rates of adolescents’ mental health problems to increasing internet use. But these debates have not always been rigorously grounded in evidence concerning both possible benefits and harms. There is a gap in understanding between those who are experts in mental health and those with expertise in the culture, political economy and regulation of the digital environment, hence many questions remain. Can adolescents’ internet use increase the risk of poor mental health and what aspects of ‘the internet’ matter? Can digital technologies support adolescents’ mental health, whether by placing barriers on the pathway to harm or by introducing online help?“ Can adolescents’ internet use increase the risk of eating disorders, self-harm and overall poor mental health? Can internet use support adolescents’ mental health, whether by placing barriers on the pathway to harm or by introducing online help? What aspects of “the internet” matter? The research highlights the multidimensional nature of digital engagement, going beyond straightforward ideas of “internet use.”In this podcast, I spoke about all of this and more with Dr. Sonia Livingstone, following our conversation about a year ago. Ep 918Business Continuity: Building And Operationalizing A Functional Disaster Recovery Plan | A Live Stream Panel With Dr Rebecca Wynn And Gayle Anders | Redefining CyberSecurity With Sean Martin
Every organization has exposure to risk. Every organization experiences events that cross over the risk threshold to quickly realize they are facing an incident head-on.It's how the organization prepares for these situations that matter most. Preparation is so much more than recognizing that a disaster might occur. It's also more than having a documented plan draft months (maybe even years ago) that, if activated, would prove worthless—or worse—counterproductive such that the disaster turns into an all-out crisis. A disaster doesn't need to result in a crisis, and that's what we will cover in this episode—how to keep the business running without killing the business in the process.Join us for this session as we explore the following points:◾️ What is a disaster?◾️ Goals of a disaster recovery plan◾️ How to build a functional plan◾️ Who builds it?◾️ Who validates it?◾️ What is in the plan◾️ How does a BC/DR plan fit into your IT/IS programs (IR, for example)◾️ Testing/Tabletop exercises____________________________GuestsDr Rebecca WynnChief Cybersecurity Strategist & CISO at Click Solutions GroupOn LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccawynncisspGayle AndersGlobal Business Continuity Program Manager at Netflix [@netflix]On LinkedIn | http://linkedin.com/in/gayle-anders-business-continuity-professional____________________________This Episode’s SponsorsArcher: https://itspm.ag/rsaarchwebHITRUST: https://itspm.ag/itsphitweb____________________________Resources____________________________Catch the on-demand live stream video and podcast here: https://www.itspmagazine.com/live-panels/business-continuity-building-and-operationalizing-a-functional-disaster-recovery-plan-redefining-cybersecurity-with-sean-martinTo see and hear more Redefining Security content on ITSPmagazine, visit:https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-cybersecurityAre you interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel?👉 https://www.itspmagazine.com/podcast-series-sponsorships Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Data is the fuel that powers the business. What are organizations doing to protect it?Organizations have become the custodians of critical information needed to remain competitive and sensitive information that their customers have entrusted them with. While some organizations have taken this responsibility seriously, governments (state, federal, and international) have had to step in to help guide companies on how best to safely manage this data. Today is not today. This is one of those episodes where we get into our time machine, kick it into gear, and go somewhen in time — we are moving the clock forward to get a glimpse into the future of education, in 2050.Today school seems like a chore. It feels like a 'job' for the students. Does that need to change where students actually want to engage and learn? What changes can we expect to see in the next 30 years where students are passionate about learning and teachers are valued for their efforts? How can we make both scale? There are 3 major forces for change. We discuss them all in this episode:the models/methodsthe role of technologythe impact on learning, students, and societyWhat's your driving force for change in the education sector?BTW, you can use your bonus point to rent a flying scooter for a day, AND you get to keep the VR visor and haptic gloves we used in todays class!!! Ep 902Book | Security Yearbook: A Complete History And Directory Of The Entire Cybersecurity Industry | Redefining CyberSecurity With Richard Stiennon
Do you think you know all of the cybersecurity vendors on the market? Think again. Need help getting a clear view for how they all fit into the bigger InfoSec picture in your org? Have a listen. In today's episode, long-time industry analyst, Richard Stiennon, takes us on a journey down memory lane into the world of cybersecurity and the ever-growing landscape of innovation, technology, features, products, solutions, and more.About the bookSecurity Yearbook 2020 was launched at RSA Conference 2020 on February 24 and has been identified as One of the Best Cybersecurity Books of 2021 by Ben Rothke! The 2021 directory has been completely updated. 300 small vendors and two abject failures stopped supporting their websites in 2020. 600 new vendors were added, although only 13 high profile startups are listed. The Directory now contains 2,615 vendors of security products. Two new stories of the pioneers of the cybersecurity industry have been added. Renaud Deraison, creator of Nessus, and Amit Yoran founder of Riptech and CEO of Tenable contribute their stories.A new section has been added to track the performance of 21 publicly traded security vendors like Crowdstrike, Zscaler, Fortinet, and Palo Alto Networks. Thanks to AGC Partners, Security Yearbook 2021 contains a complete listing of M&A activity for 2020.There were over $10 billion in new investments in high-flying security vendors. A complete list and analysis of these deals is included. The biggest difference in the directory this year is that the percent change in headcount is listed for each vendor. This is probably the most important metric for quickly assessing a vendor’s health. Successful vendors grow.Having known each other for years, Richard and Sean reminisce and they talk about the past, present, and future of the entire cybersecurity field.____________________________GuestRichard StiennonChief Research Analyst at IT-Harvest [@cyberwar]On Twitter | https://twitter.com/stiennonOn LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/stiennon/On YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJbNLvhmVGnRerhrSU1mFug____________________________This Episode’s SponsorsImperva: https://itspm.ag/imperva277117988HITRUST: https://itspm.ag/itsphitweb____________________________ResourcesSecurity Yearbook | A Complete History And Directory Of The Entire Cybersecurity Industry- 2021 edition: https://it-harvest.com/shop/security-yearbook-2021/- 2022 edition: https://it-harvest.com/shop/security-yearbook-2022/Connect with Richard at IT-Harvest: https://it-harvest.com/____________________________To see and hear more Redefining Security content on ITSPmagazine, visit:https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-cybersecurityAre you interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel?👉 https://www.itspmagazine.com/podcast-series-sponsorships Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 897Book | Technology Is Not Neutral: A Short Guide To Technology Ethics | Redefining Technology With Dr Stephanie Hare
Imagine that everything in life comes with a manual to figure things out enough to get you started with whatever that is. I think a life hack manual is what they are called nowadays. Well, plenty of people are trying to sell you that, but this is not it. This is Redefining Technology, and today, we talk about a book that will get you started understanding what technology ethics means and why they are important - really important!Let's explore what technology ethics is, who is thinking about it and doing it, the debate over whether technology is neutral, and where we draw the line. Let's also look at specific case studies such as facial recognition technology and pandemic digital health tools.About the bookIt seems that just about every new technology that we bring to bear on improving our lives brings with it some downside, side effect or unintended consequence. These issues can pose very real and growing ethical problems for all of us. For example, automated facial recognition can make life easier and safer for us – but it also poses huge issues with regard to privacy, ownership of data and even identity theft. How do we understand and frame these debates, and work out strategies at personal and governmental levels?Technology Is Not Neutral: A Short Guide to Technology Ethics addresses one of today’s most pressing problems: how to create and use tools and technologies to maximize benefits and minimize harms? Drawing on the author’s experience as a technologist, political risk analyst and historian, the book offers a practical and cross-disciplinary approach that will inspire anyone creating, investing in or regulating technology, and it will empower all readers to better hold technology to account.______________________________GuestDr Stephanie HareOn Twitter | https://twitter.com/hare_brainOn LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephaniehare/______________________________ResourcesBook | Technology is Not Neutral: A Short Guide to Technology Ethics: https://londonpublishingpartnership.co.uk/technology-is-not-neutral/More about Stephanie Hare: https://www.harebrain.co/______________________________This Episode’s SponsorsBlueLava ✨ https://itspm.ag/blue-lava-w2qsDevo ✨ https://itspm.ag/itspdvwebAre you interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel?👉 https://www.itspmagazine.com/podcast-series-sponsorships______________________________To see and hear more Redefining Technology stories on ITSPmagazine, visit:🎙✨ https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-technology Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 896Future Of Learning | What Could The School Of 2030 Really Look Like? | An Audio Signals Conversation With Michael Yates
Once upon a time, a student that hated the school system made his mission to change it. Today he is going strong at it, and he is telling us how and his vision for 2030.Inspired by one of his articles, we invited Michael Yates, Co-Founder of Guide, Keynote Speaker & Education Consultant.“What was school like for you? I hated school. I hated the desks in rows, the standardized testing, and the awful cafeteria food. More than anything, I could not stand the vast amounts of time I felt I was wasting by learning things that held no relevance to my adult life. As a student, I dreamed of doing school a different way. I now spend almost every day working to disrupt and change the system that I believe failed me and so many other students. I talk, write and dream so much about the future of learning, education, and schools. Here is what I think school could look like in 2030.”Join us for this passionate conversation about what school should and should not be. _____________________________GuestMichael YatesSenior Managing Director of Network Strategy at the TFA Reinvention Lab, powered by Teach For AmericaOn LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/mike-yates/On Twitter | https://twitter.com/justmikeyatesOn TikTok | https://www.tiktok.com/@justmikeyatesOn YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzDbw_YMuH_rSPU5hxXPOFg_____________________________This Episode’s SponsorsBlue Lava: https://itspm.ag/blue-lava-w2qsNintex: https://itspm.ag/itspntweb_____________________________ResourcesInspiring post on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/heres-what-school-could-look-like-2030-mike-yates/More about Mike Yates: https://www.yatesmike.com/home_____________________________For more podcast stories from Audio Signals: https://www.itspmagazine.com/audio-signals_____________________________For more podcast stories from Audio Signals: https://www.itspmagazine.com/audio-signalsAre you interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel?👉 https://www.itspmagazine.com/podcast-series-sponsorships Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 895Trusted Interoperability Is The Key To Better Health Care Delivery | TEFCA And TNAP Are The Keys To Trusted Interoperability | A HITRUST Customer Story With Lee Barrett And Michael Parisi
Patients, and their providers, deserve to have immediate, accurate access to their personal health information so they can get the best healthcare possible. How and where does the concept of interoperability come into play for a number of societal issues and patient care delivery challenges we are trying to solve for? Let's look at TEFCA to find out.in today's story, we are joined by two organizations—HITRUST and EHNAC—dedicated to making the healthcare ecosystem thrive by reducing friction in risk management and in supply chain interoperability. This spirit couldn't be applied at a better time with the recent release of TEFCA—the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement. We are all part of the equation. It's all about enablement and trust. It comes down to the collective spirit to provide better care for everyone, wherever they are from, and wherever they are currently located.HITRUST and EHNAC, through their partnership with other stakeholders via the Trusted Network Accreditation Program (TNAP), are dedicated to reducing the friction to become part of Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN). Their combined goal is to make it possible for everyone to do their part to provide better care. And that comes down to safe, secure, and trusted interoperability."If we can enable the stakeholders to make interoperability work, that's what we want to do. This doesn't need to be overly complicated. If it becomes overly complicated, that impacts better, quicker care delivery. We [HITRUST and EHNAC] see ourselves fitting into the equation by reducing complexity in interoperability. And we're very passionate about it." ~Michael Parisi"It's all about stakeholder trust. It's all about raising the bar and creating the highest level of stakeholder trust across all the various stakeholders, including the patients, which are a very key component. We need to really raise the bar to allow patients to have a lot more access to their data. It's an opportunity for all in the ecosystem to make a change for the better for a better future." ~Lee BarrettAbout TEFCAThe U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that ONC published the Trusted Exchange Framework, Common Agreement - Version 1, and QHIN Technical Framework - Version 1 on January 18, 2022. Entities seeking to be designated as Qualified Health Information Networks (QHINs) can begin reviewing the requirements and considering whether to voluntarily apply.About TNAPThe Trusted Network Accreditation Program (TNAP) was developed to directly align with the development of the 21st Century Cures Act required Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). TNAP seeks to promote interoperability by assuring the security and privacy of trusted networks and the use of enabling technologies in the healthcare ecosystem. The program provides third-party review with accreditation for Trusted Exchange QHINs and participants, addresses existing security and privacy compliance mandates by requiring HITRUST CSF® Certification along with rights management, and compliance with new TEFCA regulatory requirements.Note: This story contains promotional content. Ep 891Technology and Psychology. The Thin Blurry Line Between Reality and Digital World | Redefining Society With Dr. Susan Birne-Stone PhD
On this second podcast recorded with Dr. Susan Birne-Stone, we dive into a conversation that we believe will take many episodes to exhaust. Well, actually, there are good chances that it never will: Reality and Digital World, is there actually a separation between the two?We started with the general relationship between psychology and technology. From here, we could talk about how we use tech and how the two affect each other, then how the increasing complexity has changed the way we interact with it, and how different generations perceive its presence in their everyday life. Native users, for example. There is so much, and then some more, to talk about. Once we start adding to the mix virtual reality, robotics, artificial intelligence, and the MetaVerse, we realize that we could, and should, bring many people into these conversations. The idea is to do so. Therefore we invite you to listen to this episode, the first one we recorded - and the many that will follow.Enjoy!____________________________GuestDr. Susan Birne-StoneSystems Psychotherapist, International Coach, Talk Show Host & Producer, Professor | Mentor at the Mentor ProjectOn LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-susan-birne-stone-phd-lcsw-62764a18/On Twitter | —Website | drsusanbirnestone.com____________________________Resources ____________________________This Episode’s SponsorsBugcrowd 👉 https://itspm.ag/itspbgcwebBlackCloak 👉 https://itspm.ag/itspbcweb____________________________To see and hear more Redefining Society stories on ITSPmagazine, visit:https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-societyAre you interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel?👉 https://www.itspmagazine.com/podcast-series-sponsorships Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
