Phil Tyler & the intern - Nights like this
1st ever collab tune by Phil Tyler and the intern. We first met at one of Figub Brazlevics' infamous birthday celebrations and immediately knew we'd vibe together. Sure enought, we've since started working on a whole bunch of tracks together, so this is the first of many to come. We're super excited this has finally dropped. Enjoy & much love, Phil and intern.

Edified
before the noise my cousin is the debut album from experimental musician & artist Otis Mensah entirely produced by the intern following a longstanding Berlin-centred collaboration. Exploring notions of youth, its transience and malaise, ‘before the noise’ grapples for a deeper sense of kinship and home as it journeys artistic-tribulation and coming-of-age with dreamlike sonics and daring abstract-rap cadence. The album began inception over a six-year stretch during Otis’ time touring across Europe, sleeping on the intern’s dusty studio floor and crafts sleepless quarrel, wrestling on the line where desire for validation and recognition meets and contorts with the aesthetic and occupational pursuit of creative practice. The album therefore holds a disillusionment with the industry of performance under the brutalisation of capitalism but finds renewal, resolve and pride in a poetic will to express freely and vulnerably. The album features incredible verses from legendary emcees Blu, Speech of Arrested Development and Lando Chill.

Otis Mensah & the intern - Colour of Sunshine
“It rises in the morning, giving light to the land below it. It sets in the evening, leaving the world in darkness. You know what we’re talking about: The Sun.” Winter is finding an early and abrupt end as Otis Mensah & the intern bring back the rays of coziness with their first tune of 2024, “The Colour of Sunshine”. The AlternaRap aficionado with the Mellow Bars floats over the intern’s jazzy Lofi Beats like none other. Spilled Ink on the canvas of cool. Enjoy. Much love, Otis & intern

HTN & the intern - Ma' Kane
Yo, Bennies? Oh, you know it! Last night was no joke! “Ma’ kane” came to visit and Jesus Christ, it - got - wild! A soulful orchestration for an intro, smooth like the last track of a late 70’s disco record, joined by a soothing voice whispering “love” into your ear. The stomping kick & snare is gonna make you walk like you’re Shaft. And that bass? Slow and low, that is the tempo. This is classic hip-hop at its absolute finest. Meet HTN & the intern at Benihana's. 🐲 🐲

HTN & the intern - Toes
Do you hear the mellow sirens calling us to the rocks by the sweetness of their voices? “Toes” starts with a gloomy bassline, sparse cymbals & chimes, with choirs chanting the lures of lust. The trademark sound FX manifest it’s another HTN and the intern production. Raw & uncut boombap drums enter to make your heads nod. “Toes” is the 2nd single off of “Benihana”, their first collaborative effort, and this is just the beginning. Can you resist the temptation? We don’t think you can. 🐲

HTN & the intern - Let's Eat
An anthemic filet of soul, medium rare, served with tender strings and tasty bass. Chopped diligently, crested with strokes of drums, sonic fx and vocal bites, “Let’s eat” is sizzling Boombap perfection. @its-htn & the intern have been cookin’! “Benihana” is their first collaborative album, and the individual courses will be revealed over the coming weeks before the entree is served whilst rappers like Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs & Larry June are lickin’ their lips. F*ck that’s Delicious!

the intern - Yusef was right
Yusef was right. Right about what?! Most certainly, he was right about the jazz, my man. Eclecticism is the word. Like a jazz musician who creates his own style out of the styles around him, the intern plays by ear. The array of energy that stems from the rhythm section, tamed only by the soothing sound of the Rhodes, is picked up by Ben Nimmo on the saxophone, who creates a whole sonic universe of its own. Loveless moments are to be avoided. Yusef was right.
