Episode 63- Redemption for Mickey Finn who short changed us last week but turned it on in a big way this week. Young Mickey is wise beyond his years, with more experience than most when it comes to a fresh and varied approach to flyfishing for Australian Trout. Mickey is based out of Tumut NSW and lives and breathes fishing. Mickey is part of the Aussie Fly Fisher clan and guides out of his purpose built float boat most of the year in the snowy mountain region. Although Micky does have a tendency to make up town names, you will still hear in this show that he knows what he is talking about inside and out. A great show from a standout flyfisher of his generation who does look a little like Ewen McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi. Also on this show, we turn up Votzy's Wide World of Sport and we also discuss leader material rotation. We also talk about the call of nature, that as early birds, we all have to deal with in a sometimes tasteful manner, but more often not.

On this episode, we had an hour to arrange a show as the guest we had booked gave us an hours notice that they couldn't make it... these things happen but.... Mumma didn't raise no quitters here so we came up with as much verbosity as we could to bring you your Friday goodness. This show ended up going a few ways. We chat about lost fish, comps, and then mainly about weedguards. We also get into a cracking Voltz'ys week in sport, as its been a crazy week in Australian Flyfishing... so many shoutouts. On this episode we are stoked to present Dustin Huff. Dustin is a multiple tournament winning guide based out of Marathon Florida and is a very big part of the lineage of Saltwater Flyfishing history. Dustin talks to us tonight about what he does in the way of guiding, in addition to his own fishing. We also chat about Dustin as young fella which gives an insight into what makes the man such a success today. Dustin reflects on his time fishing with Del Brown and with his more modern clients, Dustin also goes into a few mind blowing stories about what it took to achieve both the 4lb and 6lb IGFA Tarpon world records. This is a very entertaining podcast that was just as much an experience for Me and Voltz as I hope that it will be for you guys. Also on this show, Voltz and I take our medicine by reading out reviews from the last show, in particular for the fly line segment. And as usual, Voltzy's world wide of sports segment is in the end for those who got it done through the week.

On episode 60 of the Intermediate Line Podcast, we chat to Troy Whyte from Minn Repairs about what he does and the importance of a correct setup and maintenance of electric motors. Also on this show the hosts barely get there with a fly line special that is designed to assist you with selecting a fly line. We attempt to cover a flow chat of sorts that may help you to use a process of elimination when considering a fly line to suit a new rod or a style of fishing. We are spoilt for choice with flylines from a great selection of excellent manufacturers, yet selecting a flyline can sometimes be a gamble given most sources of information are from either random social media posts without credibility or people with financial interests embedded their advice. Hopefully you will see this as an unbiased look at simply how to select a line that is correct for you. Please enjoy the show.

This week on episode 59, we chat to Dan Costelloe. Dan is a Tasmanian who loves fishing both the western and lower lakes of Tasmania for some world class Trout fishing. We cover most of the dumb questions that 2 Queenslanders could ask about Trout fishing, in addition to understanding the the ins and outs of hiking into a very harsh part of Australia in search of untouched fishing. Also on this show, we lightly go into spring topwater fishing for both fresh and saltwater species. We cover rods, leaders and flies in a general fashion. In the outro there is more of Voltzy's wide world of sports and we also talk about first aid procedures for marine stings.

Episode 58 - Lubin and Casey Pfeiffer are living the life that most people would only dram of. These guys travel the country to attend Fly Fishing tournaments and to create content for their YouTube channel called "The Full Scale Fishing Show". Right now, these South Australians are in Townsville as they make their way around QLD, sampling the best the state has to offer before heading back to Tasmania in the summer to compete in the fly fishing tournament circuit. On the show, we learn a little more about what the fly fishing competition circuit entails and what its provides for the sport. Episode 57 - What a cracker!! We chat to Lucas Allen from King Tide Salt Fly who is based out of Tauranga, New Zealand. Look.... here is the deal. This show has some bad jokes, some cultural insensitivity, some talk of medical procedures and popular movie franchises... but, we do talk about the very strong and powerful Kingfish and the incredible shallow water fishery Lucas guides at. This fishery is definitely not new, but as a destination for hardcore flats fishermen... it's got to be one of the most underrated misunderstood fisheries going. We sincerely hope that this show opens your mind to the possibility of considering Kingfish as a bucket list skinny water fly target. Episode 56 - We get Dave Bradley back to talk to us about his recent mother ship trip to the Cape York Peninsular. Permit, Golden Trevally, Cobia on Manta rays in waist deep water, Huge Queensland groper, thousands of pelagics and plenty of Rum. Also on this show we chat about internet trolls, discuss new rods coming out, answer a great listeners question and go through the week in sport as Voltzy see's it.

Buckle in for Episode 55 where we take on one of the most accessible fish in Australia the humble Flathead. Listen as we try to fill an hour an a half of talking about a species that could easily be narrowed down to a 30 mins chat hahaha. In all seriousness, the Flathead is a great target for flyfisherman. Experienced guys can target slabs and people transitioning fro m trout to Saltwater can also get runs on the board early on with this species. We both genuinely hope that this show inspires you to look at Flathead as a fly target or to re look at them as a challenge. Episode 54- We chat with Adam Altman about monster Murray Cod on fly. I get the feeling that making comparative or competitive statements would embarrass him, but I don’t think anybody had as many big cod on fly as Adam. It was a real pleasure talking with him about his passion. He is not afraid of a donut, and what makes it more creditable is that he is fishing in below freezing conditions at dawn or dusk throwing cast after cast. Now imagine that you hadn’t had a bite in the last 10 trips... yep, that committed. For me it was a real insight into a guy who does get it done. Episode 53 - On this episode, we chat to the Luderick Jedi .... Royce Shanks. Royce is a second generation Sith Lord of all things Blackfish. We go over the technical aspects of fly fishing for Blackfish or Luderick. This species is very common along the eastern side of Australia and is considered a bread an butter species by many, they can be caught inside estuaries or on the edge of open water with either very basic gear or you can get as technical as you like. The flies that Royce uses are very interesting and are easily made by any fly tyer which make fly fishing for Luderick a very accessible species for a large part of the population for Australians and New Zealanders.... Episode 49 - On this episode we head to central Queensland to chat with Gladstone based guide Justin Nye. We explore the options the region has to offer which is many and varied. From champagne permit fishing to Australia's most heavily stocked Barramundi impoundment to barrier reef atolls and incredibly good blue-water options, the Gladstone region definitely has the options. We also get the drum on the worlds first shallow water free swimming Black marlin caught on fly and we hear all about this stunning Garmin panoptic videos that Justin posts. Episode 48 - On this episode, we chat to two Tassie locals, Brent Bowerman (The Lost Fly) and Simon Ellis about the unique Black Bream fishery in Tasmania. Tasmania is known for its world class Trout fishery but this often overshadows the incredible Black Bream fishery they have as well. On this show, we chat about Brem techniques, but we also talk about attitudes changing towards flyfishing options in a very "Trout-centric" part of Australia. Also on this show we learn about "Magging" and we also open up debate about Fly V Lure when it comes to material selection and what you define as a fly.

Episode 47 - On this episode we have the please of chatting to Jimmy Laverty from Fly Odyssey Australia. Jimmy is a Victorian so try to pay attention to the way he talks, but if you can understand him, you will hear all about the surprising diversity of what Fly Odyssey offers in addition to the beginnings of what makes a fly fishing dedicated booking agent. Epiosde 45 - Ten years ago 3 Aussie flyfishos got together and made what is possibly the most iconic Australian Saltwater flyfishing movie we have seen. Heads or Tails was produced and directed by Phil Jagger (Who is pictured but couldn't join us) however, we were very lucky to sit down with Simon Penn and Geoff Anderson who were the two featured anglers who got some wicked fishing caught on film. You will be disappointed if your not into Permit, but if you are not into Permit, you may need to give yourself and uppercut.

Episode 44 - On this episode we chat to Sydney's premiere saltwater fly fishing guide Justin Duggan. Justin, in addition to being a guide is also a CCI, former zookeeper and passionate photographer. Justin gives us a verbose run down on everything that Sydney harbour offers by the saltwater fly fisherman. An extremely interesting look at Justin's back yard that will be of interest to anyone who thinks that a big city means polluted water and hardly any fish.... and tho this who have previously thought that way, you will be surprised to hear that it is in fact quite the opposite. On episode 43 we are honored to play a special episode that was given to us by former guest and owner of Australian Flyfishing Outfitters, Dave Bradley. Dave sits down with living legend Harry Spear for 2 separate interviews played back to back . Harry Spear, now in his 70's is a former guide from Florida USA, Harry was around in the days when the sport was evolving rapidly with new flies, lines and rod construction in addition to IGFA rules and a changing tournament scene. Harry is also a highly regarded Tarpon tournament angler and has seen them go from kill events to catch and release events. A real piece of Saltwater flyfishing history that was kindly given to us by one of Australia Saltwater Fly Fishing legends, Dave Bradley.

On Episode 42, we chat to Andrew Chorley (Chozza) from Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing. Chozza has been on the water in Hervey Bay as a full time guide for 10 years and currently runs a 4 boat fleet for everything from flats to Bluewater to impoundment Barramundi. Episode 40 - On this episode, we start off with a very special announcement about one of our hosts. We then move into an approach on planning a fishing trip with an emphasis on heading north for tailing fun. Episode 39 - On this episode we chat to Nat Bromhead, former Saltwater Flyfishing guide and creator of the now called Australian Saltwater Flyfishing Forum. We chat to Nat about his time as a guide, his contributions to the sport and also the very beginnings of the forum and the impact it has had on the sport. Nat also talks about the birth of fly caught free swimming black marlin inside Fraser Island, a potentially gone forever Hervey Bay Goldy fishery, in addition to just a few funny memories. Episode 38 - On this show we are stoked to have Dave Bradley on the show!! Dave is one of Australia's most experienced Saltwater Flyfishing guides. Episode 35 - On this episode we talk to Scott Mitchell about his recent trip to Colombia. Scott takes us through the ins and outs of planning a trip of a lifetime in addition too catching some awesome fish like Peacock Bass and Payara. On episode 34, we chat to far north Queensland local, Chris Heath. We chat to Chris about Jungle Perch and also a little about stunt driving boat trailers in addition to a little about the saltwater options around cairns. We also open up the show talking about a thought provoking topic - Underlining and overlining fly rods.

Episode 33 - On this episode we delve into the dark arts of Spey/ Skagit and Scandi casting with a dribbling of single handed thrown in. Nic is super knowledgeable and experienced with single and double handed spey casting. Nic is "living the lyrics" so to speak as this style of fishing is Nic's preferred way to fish. On this show, Nic points out that spey casting is seriously overlooked as a way to catch fish in Australia. This could be the most interesting show we have done so far as every person who fishes fly should definitely not be ignoring this side of flyfishing.

Episode 29 - On this episode we delve in deep to the world of photography with David Anderson. David is a professional photographer who is heavily involved within the Australian Fly Fishing Industry, in addition to working within the music industry with such icons as John Farnham and Rolling Stone magazine. David is also a regular contributor to Flylife magazine in addition to running Twigwater.com Also on this episode we take the time to answer a great listener submitted question and recap the flies for fires auction and upcoming lots within the auction.

Episode 28 – On this show we chat to Bill Mitchell. We chat to Bill about the research and interaction of fishing with guides. Bill is a well traveled fly fisho and offers an excellent insight into getting the most out of your fishing experience with guides. Also, we chat about line management devices, dying bucktail, and we talk about the flies for fires Auction.

Episode 27 - This would be our most requested show we have had since this podcast started, so we put together an unscripted round table discussion between the 3 of us that covers Saratoga Leichardti and in part Saratoga Jardini for those aspiring to catch Saratoga on fly. On this show we talk impoundment Barramundi with Doctor Awoonga himself, Trevor Burgess. Trevor lives at Lake Awoonga and is a full time lure maker (Happy Rock Softies) and off water fishing consultant. The reason we have him on the show is that Trevor has a great ability to find fish, and has a very proven track record of tank Barra that have graced the deck of his boat over many years. Trevor's teachings can be translated to any type of fishing and most certainly to any Barra impoundment. Although Trevor doesn't fish fly, we wanted to highlight the possibilities for impoundment Barra by talking about how to find them and how to present to them and how very realistic fly fishing for impoundment Barra actually is when you can reduce the size of any impoundment by studying their behavior and then adapting to it with Flyfishing techniques.

Episode 21 - Is all about the young gun know it all millenial flyfisho... say what you will about Millenials, but these guys are a great example of the anti-millenial by approaching the sport of flyfishing in a clever, respectful way. These three guys (Tom Crittenden, Dan Dingle, Alex Roy) and are all surpassing results reserved for much more experienced fly fisherman, in a much shorter time frame!! On this show, each of these guys offer a unique perspective on their Flyfishing journey in addition to expanding on the degree of experience each one has at this point. Episode 19 - This episode takes off with the same immature humor that you would expect from the three Muppets, but quickly heads into our first fly tying special. In this episode we discuss the fundamentals of fly tying and the reason why having a basic understanding is important for flyfishing, and fly tying. We go onto to talking about how materials act in the water, the relationship between natural and synthetic and hook selection. Towards the end there is a detailed discussion on Game Changers as well as hooks. In the future we will be getting on influential fly tiers from around the world, but for this one we are exhausting the resources from within by discussing fly tying among ourselves. We chat about a "get it done" approach to achieving consistent results when fly fishing for Bream and other bread and butter estuary species.
