S2 Ep 344Alyson Caffrey ”Mastering maternity leave; why it’s important and how it helps individuals, teams, and orgs. become healthier”

On today's episode, entrepreneur and operations expert, and high capacity leader Allison Caffrey joins us for a conversation about the importance of systems within an organization and why a properly planned system for mastering maternity leave creates a healthier culture, and helps teams lead more effectively before, during and after maternity leave. About Alyson Alyson Caffrey is the founder of Master Maternity Leave and the Master Maternity Leave Signature Course. She spent the last five years as a small business operations consultant in her company, Operations Agency, helping streamline the back-end ops for a multitude of brands. Since entering motherhood, her mission is to help small businesses and mompreneurs realize maternity leave as an opportunity, not a setback. Before becoming a mom, Alyson had never taken more than a week off from her business- nor did she want to! However, she knew she had to change something in order to prepare to take some time off and augment her day-to-day to fit her new lifestyle when she returned to work post-baby. Shocked at the lack of structured information available regarding planning maternity leave for female business owners, she decided to lean in and document her experience prepping, executing, and returning from maternity leave - twice in seventeen months! Alyson found that few small business owners had a plan of action for how they handled tasks, cross-training and shifting responsibilities for expecting parents. They shared that this led to parents returning to work with lots more on their plate than when they left, team members bothering them while out on leave with emails and meetings… and even early returns. Alyson made Master Maternity Leave, a series of resources for mompreneurs (expecting moms running their own shop) and small businesses with expecting employees. Her goal is to use her skills as an operator to help centralize the company’s procedures and training and create overall transparency internally so that when someone goes out on leave, team members know how to shift and accommodate. Alyson now runs Operations Agency, a bustling home with two young sons (Frank, 2 years and Jack, 8 months), and helps expecting entrepreneurs prep for this massive shift in life and business. Ep 333333 - Susan Salenger ”How women sideline themselves”

Alan has a fascinating conversation with author and researcher Susan Salenger about how women's health is suffering and why women are more likely to take care of everyone else before themselves. Women even tend to view their health issues mch differently than men do. This is a huge issue that is impacting SO many families and workplaces, because it's impacting the women we love. This is a crucial listen for both men and women. About Susan I'm a non-fiction writer, an avid reader and a foodie, especially dark chocolate. For more than 25 years, my husband and I owned Salenger Films, which produced and distributed corporate training films all around the world. My new book, Sidelined: How Women Manage and Mismanage Their Health, will be published by She Writes Press in April 12th, 2022. It explores the barriers women face in getting the best medical care. It’s sometimes so difficult for women to get an accurate diagnosis and the medical community often treats women differently from men. Even in 2021, gender bias still persists. But some barriers come from women themselves. Women often put their own health last, behind the needs of their families. And illness often makes some women feel guilty for becoming ill in the first place which can lead them to make decisions they later regret. My research revealed how conflicted many women are about the medical decisions they make. After extensive interviews and research, the book highlights my findings. Sidelined includes a valuable resource directory that offers a variety of services to help women decide the best path to follow. I was born in Los Angeles and, although I loved living there (except for the traffic and the smog), I moved up to Northern California to be with my grandchildren. I have two fabulous daughters, four incredible grandchildren, a dog named JD (Salenger), a cat named Max and, because I live in the wine country, a tiny vineyard that produces pinot noir. I’m a city girl living in Denver with my husband Derek and our four daughters. Derek leads Providence Network, a transitional housing ministry to those coming out of homelessness. Whether on the soccer sidelines, at an event where I’m speaking, or walking to the neighborhood market, my hope is love God and love others in word and deed. My books include The Artist’s Daughter: A Memoir, Loving My Actual Life: An Experiment in Relishing What’s Right in Front of Me, Loving My Actual Christmas: An Experiment in Relishing the Season, and Loving My Actual Neighbor: 7 Practices to Treasure the People Right in Front of You. There's a better way though. And it starts with rhythm. On today's episode, Alan and Jonathan are going to spend time helping you REinterpret rhythm over balance and how to move from reactively balancing your life and leadership to a more proactive rhythmic posture of life and leadership.
