The Gary DeMar Podcast

Gary discusses the current movie, Jesus Revolution, which tells the story of the Jesus Movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. While not a review of either the movie or the movement, Gary laments the shallowness of what was taught (or not taught) by this captive audience of new believers more than 50 years ago. Had a comprehensive biblical worldview been taught, we may be in a completely different situation today.

In this short interview with the late Dr. Gary North, the two Garys discuss the benefits and biblical application of the Five Point Covenant Model. Dr. North shows that the covenant is unavoidable and always flows out from the very first point: "Who's in Charge?"

Gary talks about his comic book collection and his decision to sell much of it to another collector. Gary talks a bit about the comic book industry and its history, as well as the concept of collecting and value as a whole.

Gary riffs on one of his favorite side-topics: spiritual manipulation and magic. 19th century "spiritual photographer" William Mumler provides the entry-point into the discussion. Harry Houdini, Andre Kole, Danny Korem, Penn and Teller and many others have devoted a large part of their lives to proving that spiritual manipulators are simply using tricks and illusions to convince the gullible of their "mystical" powers.

Gary discusses movies, the end-times, and books. Rapture fever has returned, which makes a book Gary wrote in 2001 relevant once again. Left Behind: Separating Fact from Fiction is Gary's answer and response to the Left Behind craze from the 1990s, which resulted in several movies and a slew of promotional products. Gary discusses comments made at Davos 2023. The World Economic Forum honestly believes that they are the elite of the world with all the answers. John Kerry made the point that they are "almost extraterrestrial," in that they're here to save us from ourselves. This reminded Gary of an old TV show (of course) called the Twilight Zone and one of its episodes in particular.

Gary concludes his interview with Jay Rudolph on the Plumb Line radio program. History is full of examples of both kings and religious leaders overstepping jurisdictional boundaries. The Bible is clear that government and politics are not the same. There are several broad categories of governments—family, church, civil—but each one is dependent upon self-governed individuals. As Robert Winthrop succinctly put it: "Men will be governed by either the Bible or the bayonet."

Gary was interviewed by Jay Rudolph on the Plumb Line radio program. Gary discussed several recent articles he wrote, as well as general worldview issues. Christians must understand that we are in a war of ideas and consequences, as Paul says in 2 Corinthians 10:3-6.

Gary responds to recent article by John Piper, which is an excerpt of his new book, Come, Lord Jesus. Pastor Piper rehearses similar arguments to those in the past trying to explain away the imminency of the coming of the Lord in Matthew 24 (and many other NT passages). Jesus meant what He said about the nearness of His coming in judgment on first-century apostate Israel.

Gary discusses a recent article about artificial intelligence and preaching by Russell Moore. The article raises many important points and Gary takes it in several different directions. AI only does what the programmer tells it to do and Christians need to learn and lead the way on using AI to promote and accurately proclaim the Gospel, rather than hiding from it in fear as an indicator of the "end times." In this excerpt from a recent Burros of Berea round table, Gary gives several examples of how Christians should do apologetics. Using what Greg Bahnsen called "pushing the antithesis" Christians must force unbelievers to own their materialistic assumptions about reality. Gary discusses an interview he read with a female track and field athlete about what she believes would be the end of sports if transexuals are allowed to compete in opposite gender events. Gary discusses several principles from his book God and Government to a class of homeschoolers. What should the Christian response be to the civil government? We are not always to obey, and we are not always to resist. The civil magistrate has a legitimate and biblically defined role. "We must obey God and not man" (Acts 5:29) must be understood in its proper context.

Gary answers a listener question about the difference between how the word "age" is understood in Matthew 13 and Matthew 24. Is there a difference between what Jesus was teaching in the parable of the wheat and tares in Matthew 13, and between the destruction of the city and the temple in Matthew 24? There's a lot of talk about "free speech" these days. But is it really? Speech is not free in the sense of being without cost; it's free (at least theoretically) in the sense of being without restraint. But those who cry the loudest for "free speech" when they think their's is being restrained, are also the biggest restrictors of speech when given the opportunity.

Gary answers a listener question about resources that best represent and present the dispensational premillennial position. The listener wants to hear the best case for Dispensationalism, even though he has become increasingly convinced of postmillennialism. Gary shows how every position has a couple seemingly perfect Bible verses, but this is not how we should be reading and understanding the Bible as a whole.
