I've always marveled at folks who hunt specific deer. The energy such a feat requires is extreme. But every year a very select number of deer hunters will pursue their very limited list of targets, and when they achieve their goal a new legendary story is created. Finally! I never knew when the right time would be to record and release the story of our 2022 spring bear hunt. But it's almost bear season again, and I figured now is the perfect time to tell the tale. There's a million ups and downs, hard lessons, a game bag full of laughs, failures, and successes, and whole lot of rain. We took on a tall order hunting spring black bears in NW Montana. Chris Dyer is the greatest deer hunter you've never heard of. Go ahead argue with me. I'll send you picture after picture, and story after story to prove my claim. The man lives and breathes whitetails. Think of the most brutal grizzly mauling you've heard of someone surviving. Now imagine that situation being even worse. Jeremy Evans is the toughest man on the planet. Period. As you will hear in this interview ten miles into the backcountry Jeremy FOUGHT OFF a sow grizzly when he accidentally came in between her and her cub. He fought her off 3 times without bear spray, a gun, or a knife and miraculously survived his horrific injuries. It's quite simply the most brutal bear attack I have ever heard of where the victim survived. Is shed hunting worthless? There are plenty of Uncle Rico type bow hunters who will tell you it is. They will talk about the 180s and 2Hundies they almost shot, and how they were in totally different locations than where their sheds were found by a farmer two miles away. But are testimonies such as these to be trusted? Should all hunters accept them at face value, and conclude for themselves that shed hunting has no value? Broad head lodged deep in your thigh 10 miles into the back country = dude, you're screwed. Ron Boehme is one of the most recognizable voices in the gun dog community. Not just because of his hilarious sense of humor, but because he lives and breathes gun dogs. I like to say he covers the gamut of the hunting dog community from blue collar to white collar. As you will hear in this episode Ron hunts all over the country with all of his dogs and many of his best friends, and he also serves as an official judge for NAVHDA testing of trained hunting dogs. Practicing conservation can take many forms. Buying a hunting license, joining an ecological advocacy organization, volunteering to help with habitat improvement projects, or even taking political action. One additional way you can participate in conserving the health of our favorite planet is by purchasing products that are made in America. By doing so, the materials used to make the products, and the products themselves have a much smaller carbon footprint by not needing to be shipped all over the globe. This in turn means less resources are depleted, air and water quality are improved, and less disturbance to ecosystems is needed to ship the products to the consumers.
