That's where we come in."I Can't Breathe." Those were the words George Floyd sputtered out from underneath the knee of a police officer. His death was recorded. Protests are erupting throughout all fifty states to end police brutality and to give them accountability for their systematically oppressive nature. We talk with Kodak Chris, a photographer in the scene about how he's handling the state of things, especially with two kids. We also talk with a virtual protester who cannot be outside due to an immunocompromised system, since we are still battling a global pandemic that is COVID-19. Well, Falling in Reverse lead singer Ronnie Radke posted a controversial photo (a "meme" if you will) on Twitter which prompted a large out-lash from fans and various Twitter on-lookers. One of them being YouTuber Elijah Daniel. You might know him as the guy who bought Hell, MI. a few months ago for a month and renamed it "Gay Hell, MI". We’ve all been angry about the oppressive abortion laws in Alabama, Missouri, and more states - and here’s something you can do right now. This week Emo Social Club is hosting Emo Karaoke at Emporium Chicago to raise money for the Chicago Abortion Fund. So for the podcast, we interviewed Lara Haddadin about the CAF, what it does to help people in need of reproductive justice, and how you can help. Of course, one thing you can do this week is come to Karaoke and contribute through our fundraising efforts. "It's kinda of a cliche thing to be like, 'oh I started goin' and it wasn't as good'-but ever since then, I feel it's gotten more and more to like the general pop, EDM, hip-hop genre." says General Manager of Radio DePaul, Marty O'Connell. Lollapalooza has a history of selling out passes in under 10 minutes. However, the past two years have sturggled with ticket sales. Last years fest had tickets avaliable day of. This year they haven't even sold out-nearly two months after the line-up announcement. So what's Lolla doing wrong? Or it could be we as music fiends are too overwhelmed by the plethora of music festivals to choose from. Beyond the Music founder Connor Skelly says, "This is both a good and bad thing about Lollapalooza, and Bonaroo and Coachella. All these large festivals that appeal to a wide range of audiences," he begins, "It's great that they do that, it gets a lot of people together to appreciate music, but I think it also works to their detriment." Many of us never think twice about how we're going to get into a show. Besides buying, winning or knowing someone to get in, actually finding a spot or even getting to the GA section can be a challenge for those with disabilities. Cue Cassie Wilson and her non-profit, Half/Access. She aims to compile a list of venues across the U.S. (and some internationally, too!) That are friendly and accessible to people who have to plan out more than just if their mom is going to drive them to the gig. Brian goes solo and chats with the guy responsible for the Midwestern emo scene - well, a big part of it anyway. Johnny Minardi works as A&R for Fueled By Ramen and Roadrunner Records, currently working with artists like The Fever 333 and Grandson, but he also is one of the reasons you know The Academy Is. We discuss how someone gets to work with bands like that, developing musicians he lived with in a tiny apartment into a nationally touring enterprise, and whether or not you need to move to LA to make it (spoiler: you don't). This week, Brian flies solo and interviews Megan Rhodes, creator and choreographer of Peckish Rhodes Performing Arts Society, a Chicago dance company performing their completely DIY show next weekend. In what can only be described as a national tragedy, Lizzie has come down with pneumonia (in her words, "lol") and so we present to you the extended interview with Mo Doron of Riot Fest.
