Big show. Brandon, front person of emo's latest breakout act Home Is Where, joins us to talk about the band's origin, their success, their misconceptions, their future, and Bob Dylan. As CEO of 5th Wave Emo, Brandon also explains 5th wave emo while Ellie paints the picture for the 9 Waves of Emo. 

Ellie survived the Texas apocalypse and Kyle survived his twenties. How's emo? We talk about Q1 of 2021 for emo and the culture. We then dip into our mailbag to talk about music criticism and emo content creators. Already got another episode OTW! 

Pardon the absence. We're back. 2021 begins with Camp Trash on the show. We talk their ascent from Twitter from CYLS and Florida's emo clout. The main chunk of the episode is previewing 2021 for emo and beyond. We talk about our most anticipated albums, our emo hopes and predictions, and our resolutions. There is a leaked Camp Trash track at the end of the show. 

3 years down the drain. To celebrate, we brought back the concept of Episode 0 to play "Is This Band Emo" with emo writers and friends of the pod Ian Cohen, David Anthony and Eric Grubbs. A very appropriate culmination of how far we've gotten in the 3 years of The E Word and showing how far we've come to understand emo. Thanks for sticking with us for so long.

The E Word invades The MacGuffin Podcast, a film podcast run by an OG E Word listener, Cassidy. We talked about Donnie Darko and Emo: The Musical, and emo in the media in general. Great chat that you'll enjoy if you fuck with our podcast. Please note that this podcast was recorded prior to the nation-wide protests. On May 29, 2020, The Brave Little Abacus' sophomore LP, "Just Got Back From the Discomfort—We're Alright" celebrates it's 10 year anniversary. Actually they weren't going to celebrate... we made them aware of the anniversary that they were about to overlook. The E Word's most requested guest, Adam Demirjian from TBLA, guests on this podcast deep-dive the landmark album and give us a proper documentation of the band's story. 

With emo's stock plummeting and hardcore's rising, we called up Grey Gordon (whose qualifications in hardcore, emo, and podcasts run deep) to bring you emos an accessible guide to get you into hardcore.

We're going out of order. We talk about 2017 with punk journalist David Anthony (ex- AV Club, Noisey, As You Were Podcast, etc. etc. etc.) This way y'all voted on this one, coupled with the vast amount of releases, made it quite an interesting year to dissect.

Christian Holden from The Hotelier is back on the podcast to talk about the 2016 winner, "Goodness" and the rest of the 2016 albums with us. We talk "Goodness" for around 25 minutes. Thanks to Christian, again, for being one of the best guests we've had and sharing stories from their decade in emo.

It's finally here. We talk the entire of 2015 with Corey Purvis, who worked closely with many records on this list, and big-time emo advocate and musician, Isaac from Barely Civil. We also talk a lot of James Cassar.

Ellie sits down with three of the most engaged people in the current DIY scene to talk about the past, present, and future of political engagement and activism in the world of emo and screamo. Topics discussed include 90s hardcore, veganism, PC backlash, “cancel culture,” irony-poisoning, casual racism, and staying above the toxicity of internet discourse. Ellie isn’t the world’s best editor or sound engineer, so the audio during Megan’s interview is a little fucky, but bear with us and we think you’ll have a great time.

Keith Lantinen from Empire! Empire! I Was A Lonely Estate and Count Your Lucky Stars Records comes on the podcast to talk about the rest of 2013 and 2014. Tank, Algernon Cadwallader's drummer, comes on the podcast to talk about our 2011 ADUTI winner, "Parrot Flies." The LP is a podcast favorite and we couldn't be any more excited to talk to about it with someone in the band. We talk about the record track-by-track, where Algernon was leading up to the record and also the mark it's left on emo for good.

Ellie and Kyle discuss the rest of the year of 2010 for emo. We talk about when the revival actually starts, where we were and where we saw emo being talked about in that year, etc. We talk extensively about the albums on the ballot, just generally took shots at each other and looked at a lot of Discogs entries.

All four members of Snowing are on the podcast for the first episode of the Decade Under the Influence series, to dive into the 2010 winner, "I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted." This episode gets incredibly in-depth about where Snowing was at before the album, then diving in track-by-track, and then talking a bit about the reunion shows and what happened after the album came out. Still can't believe this episode happened. Endless thank you to Snowing for being down to talk about the record and giving a massively important record.

We have Ian Cohen (!!!) on the podcast. We got Ian on in late December to record an episode all about dissecting emo-pop. We wanted to keep the conversation going about the current climate of emo, so we recorded a second part a month later. What we have is two parts in one episode with one of the most relevant music writers to the genre today and we were thrilled to have him on.
