From the publisher

These are the audio summaries of my studies as a dressage judge, rider, and trainer. Riding is a lifelong journey and being an auditory learner, I wanted a way to be able to review my notes more frequently- and maybe help a few people out on their journey too. As of this point in time, I am an FEI rider, EC competition Coach, and EC licensed 'Basic' Dressage Judge. While I have been judging and studying for a number of years, sometimes I say things that make more sense in my head (these are my personal notes remember!). If you hear something that doesn't sound right, or want clarification on, please reach out at [email protected] It can be a learning experience for both of us! S1 Ep 4Dietmar's Notes from C

In this episode, I'm diving into my notes and reflections on The View from C — an old school gem by Olympic judge and vet Dr. Dietmar Specht. While some parts of the book feel a bit outdated, I found so many valuable insights on the training scale, judging philosophy, and how our role as judges goes far beyond numbers on a score sheet. From the nuances of contact and impulsion to the weight of judging responsibly for the future of our sport, this episode is a deeper look into the layers that shape dressage — and what keeps me passionate about it. S1 Ep 3Nicole's Rider Position Collectives

A question sometimes deserves more than a simple answer. In today's notes, I summarize my explaination of the two rider position collectives at the end of the USDF dressage tests: Rider Position and Seat, and Rider's Correct and Effective use of Aids. I take inspiration from Erik Herbermann, Debbie Riehl-Rodriguez, and Fran Severn to help round out my notes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

S1 Ep 2Bengt's Extended Trot Definition

Sometimes, all it takes is one sentence being italicized and emphasized to make you question if you really know the meaning behind it. In today's notes, we take inspiration from Bengt Ljungquist's book Practical Dressage Manual and go into the extended trot and how to it's more than just a red panda definition. Hosted on Acast. S1 Ep 1Udo's 7 Laws of Horsemanship

My thoughts on a section of Udo Burger's The way to perfect horsemanship. Udo was an accomplished veterinary surgeon, animal physchologist, and respected judge... but his texts are all translated from their original german. Some of the sentence structure and original meanings of his phrases do need to be injested and interpreted a few times for the full effect. His unique combination of physical and mental understanding of the horse from both a scientific and anecdotal background make this book jam packed with knowledge. I have yet to find another writer who is as diverse and all encompasing as he is. This is the third time I've read this book and I'm still picking up more details. Fair warning... In my opinion, Udo was a man of his time. Some of the things he says about people as metaphores are old-fashioned and outdated. Nothing too terrible, but just somethign to note if you're picking up his book. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
