Jon Hansen: Ghost Writing for Leaders

Jon Hansen: Ghost Writer for Leaders Why famous and none famous people hire a ghost writer. Why don't have to be a writer to share your message! As leaders we all need to consider: How are you going to share your message? What is your life's message? What is the philosophy? What is the guidance you want to leave to the world as a legacy? None of us like to confront our mortality but we do need to confront our legacy and whether we are leaving the kind we want. Along your journey, there's no doubt been times where you have amazed yourself in the way you did something, took command or directed something. It was likely one of those moments where you or someone who was there said something like: There's a message inside of you! But how do you get it out? Well, what if you had someone who had the ability to go in and pull out that message and all the supporting stories and anecdotes from you? Someone who could give your message and stories the form and cohesion that would allow you to kick it through to become your super bowl goal? That's exactly what our guest does! He's the most famous guy you've never heard of. Jon Hansen is a two-time Ottawa finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Jon is one of the top ghostwriters in Canada writing for top executives, politicians, athletes, and celebrities globally. He's penned countless, books, articles, blog posts, papers and speeches on a diverse range of topics. As a writer under his own name, Jon is a regular contributor to magazines around the world and is known as a contributing author to the Go Daddy blog. On this episode we go FullMonty on: Why many famous and none famous people hire a ghost writer? I ask if "ghost writing" is cheating? We look at the most common misunderstanding about what ghost writers do. If everyone is looking for their 15 minutes of fame, why would a ghost writer give theirs away? I'll ask him how he feels about the ghost writer for Donald Trump revealing that Donald never wrote a word. We'll talk about writing as a job, what it means, and what it takes? How to know if you should hire a ghost writer? I'll even get him to tell us what it costs to hire one. Jamie Mustard: The Iconist

How can you and I make something iconic? How can we find a way to stand out? Whether we're looking at ourselves, our brand, our creativity or our purpose – we are all trying to find ways to distinctively project ourselves in a world full of mass similarity. As a leader in your industry do you sometimes find yourself struggling to stand out? What about as an organization or even as a product or service in the market place? Do you sometimes feel like you might not be one of the special or "anointed" ones? What if you knew how to anoint yourself? Business is not just about being able to stand out, but rather to stand out in a way that has massive impact and longevity. But how can we stand out in a world of ever increasing visual noise? When you look back on the history of music, art, politics and literature, there are certain "Iconic" individuals that are indelibly tattooed on our minds to such a degree that even if we have no real interest in what they are or do, they are unshakable. Think of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5...Now tell me you didn't hear: "Bha-Bha-Pah-Ba, Bha-Bha-Pah-Ba!" The question is, was it Beethoven's genius that created music that hundreds of years later everyone knows? (of course it is) However, what if there's a formula that Beethoven consciously or unconsciously understood? Furthermore, what if it's a formula that translates over to Art, Design, Architecture, Movie Making, and even road signs? If it is a formula, you might be wondering how you can tap into it so that you or your brand becomes the very thing imprinted in the minds of those you wish to influence and impact? Well, you can because our guest on this episode is Jamie Mustard. Jamie Mustard is an expert on perception in the physical world, a strategic multi-media consultant, art, design and product futurist, translator of technologies, creative artist and Iconist. A graduate of the London School of Economics, Jamie's work is an explanation of the 'economics of attention' based on the primal laws of human perception called Blocks™. He has spoken, educated and inspired others with his work ubiquitously including, Cisco, Intel, Symantec, Adidas, Pacific Northwest College of Art and his TEDx at creative giant, Wieden + Kennedy. His purpose is to give the power of getting attention and all that it does for us internally, back to those who are feeling stifled by an over-messaged to culture. He is the author of the new and highly influential, ICONIST: The Art and Science of Standing Out. On this episode we go FullMonty on: The Red Rubber Ball Philosophy that changed his mentality The Science and Art of Obviousness The primal laws of human perception Messaging Dilution...how to overcome it The paradox of choice Economics of attention Why Symmetry Matters Tapping into "Blocks" and "Icons" to truly stand out Why songs and nursery rhymes get stuck in our head The power of Transparency How feeling Invisible made him a master of helping others stand out Why every mental Arrow Head needs a Shaft and why every Shaft needs an Arrow Head Repetition: Stay it often enough and it becomes a (small t) truth Tapping into the powerful force of emotion Icons and Courage And so much more... Thinking The Unthinkable: Nik Gowing and Chris Langdon

DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!! Executive leadership faces new vulnerabilities. Many leaders privately concede them, but few are willing to talk publicly about them. 'Unthinkable' events since 2014 have revealed a new leadership fragility at the highest levels. The pace of change shows that the uncertainties are greater than ever. Is this the 'new normal?' Thinking The Unthinkable is an investigation into why leaders have appeared more unable or unwilling than ever to anticipate the biggest issues of our time. In an era of 'wicked problems' why are current leadership behaviours and culture apparently not fit for purpose? What are the causes of so many failures in policy and strategic forecasting? Are they human frailties? Or are they systemic failures to embrace smartly new realities? Through hundreds of interviews and conversations, Nik Gowing and Chris Langdon have analysed the deep new challenges to the human capacity of leaders at the highest keels to accept, understand, embrace then handle the extraordinary processes of change and disruption. This essential book draws on the candid responses. The findings will be disconcerting to leaders at all levels. We live in what might be the most disrupted time in history, hundred year old industries are disappearing over night. Things that we considered normal have nothing to do with what's going on. In fact much of what's going on today we would have considered "Unthinkable" not very long ago. The question is how can we as leaders thrive in a time where the unthinkable is the norm? Well let's find out together… This has one of my most intriguing interviews. What my guests brought to light is fascinating, awakening and a clear call to action! Through 2008-2010. he directed the Communicating Europe Programme for the European Stability Initiative, Chris was a TV producer for BBC News, ITN and APTN. Together they have spent the last 4 1/2 years asking leaders how they are coping with disruption - the answer is scary. Leaders cannot cope! However, Nik & Chris have some good news… They found some leaders who thrive on change. This is a fascinating episode that steps outside of leadership as we know it and confronts questions about leadership that few have had the courage to face. On this episode we go FullMonty on: Why leaders are struggling to keep up? The best way thrive in an age of massive disruption The cost of Conformity How Nik predicted what is now labelled 'Fake News' back in 2009. Purpose…what purpose, and why? Christine Comaford Leadership Beyond The Brain

E

What is it that you don't know about your brain that's making you a bad leader? There are heavy demands when it comes to being on the cutting edge. Demands that can disconnect us from those we care about, and most importantly, ourselves. There's always a new trend in Silicon Valley to help busy executives connect with themselves and have clarity. However, trends are fleeting, this week it's Intermittent fasting, last week it was taking psychedelics, last year it was doing adrenaline sports. All trends go in and out of vogue. The truth is that we can't do a trend with the hope of creating a sustainable level of clarity. What we really need is a neuroscience backed solution to disconnect from stress and reconnect with your heart, your soul and your higher mind. But how? Well let's find out together… Our guest on this episode is Christine Comaford who was named one of the Top 50 Human Behavior Experts to Follow in 2017 and one of the Global Employee Engagement Influencers of that same year. On top of that, it doesn't take long for the "glamour" business dinners, missed workouts and exhaustion to catch up. Before you know it, the next business suit needs to have a little more room than the last one, and the fact is, that last one was three sizes bigger than the one you bought 5 years ago. Those same leaders who hold positions that convey power, prestige, and competence often feel powerless with regard to their own weight gain. Did you know that 27 percent of health spending between 1987 and 2001 was attributable to obesity? The total cost of obesity to private employers is approximately $45 billion per year. So how can we as leaders, slow down, even reverse this weight gain train from going of the track? Well stay tuned because our guest today is Adam Schaeuble, PhD. (pronounced; "Shyblee") He's an entrepreneur, community leader and host of the top ranked fitness podcast the Million Pound Mission. He's a man on a mission that started in his home town of Bloomington, IN, where he has created a bootcamp program that's produced over 35,000lbs of results. On this episode we go FullMonty on How he got his PhD faster than anyone in history What's behind his Million Pound Mission How he lost 100 lbs How becoming a Minimalist has transformed his business life and his family life Black Hole of Fitness Doom Why "hard work" failed him in fitness, health and business. How being an athlete got him ready to become obese Nutritional ADD... do you have it? How he stopped being a "Crap Magnet" His direct connection to HH The Dhali Lama How becoming a Minimalist has transformed his business life and his family life His 4 step plan that anyone can use to get healthy Why you don't need a new diet or fitness program What he did to become debt free in his early 30's that contradicted everything you know about goals His 24 hour challenge that can and will transform your life! Brandon Evans: Lost on Purpose

Creating Conscious Leadership and Conscious Businesses We leaders come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and varieties; as leaders we are all driven. The questions that we so often skip over is: Where are we really driving to, and why? If you are a highly successful leader or entrepreneur, you have likely had at least a couple of moments where you've wondered what's it all about. You've maybe even asked yourself what the real point is, or why you're even pursuing whatever it is that you are pursuing. For some leaders, getting to the heart of what that question means is a natural evolution, while for others it's forced by a painful circumstance or situation. Nonetheless, we all get there eventually! The question is: What has to happen for you to have the kind of awakening that will transform the meaning of your life? Well, stay tuned because our guest on this episode is Brandon Evans. Brandon is a serial entrepreneur who previously built two companies valued at over $100M, but after experiencing what he describes as a spiritual awakening. His focus has shifted dramatically! Brandon's new company, 1heart, has a mission to foster a new generation of heart-led leaders who are birthing conscious companies, ultimately using business as a force for good to transform lives and the planet. On this episode we go FullMonty about: Facing the dilemma of having all the success, yet realizing he was out of sync with his values Facing the internal battle of letting go How he (and many other leaders) try to do the inner journey of self discovery and fail (until they don't) Heart-led leadership The viral article he wrote, titled: Lost on Purpose What does it mean to be a conscious leader? Is there a place for what some call "woo-woo" practices in leadership? Getting fired by investors from the company he founded (after 3 straight years of 300%+ growth) And so much more... Chris Dyer: The Power of Company Culture (audio)

Can you and I build a culture that improves productivity, performance, and profit...even if everyone's remote? If all that interests you, stay tuned because our guest on this episode is Chris Dyer, a recognized performance expert, entrepreneur, consultant, and best selling author. Chris works with leading organizations to help them transform their cultures in order to boost performance and gain an even greater edge in the marketplace. Joshua Spodek Initiative: Bring Your Passions to Life (audio)

Leadership and the Environment Is a conversation about climate change and the environment relevant to you and I as leaders… or is it just the flavour of the day? Environmental issues are part of the everyday news cycle. But here's the big question: If we think above and beyond either side of the discussion (and the environment being used a political catapult), are these issues relevant to us as leaders of industries? And if so, why are they relevant? Well stay tuned because we are about to take a dive into this controversial subject. Our guest on this episode is Joshua Spodek. He's the bestselling author of Leadership Step by Step, and his resume is far beyond impressive! Joshua is an Adjunct Professor at NYU, leadership coach and workshop leader for Columbia Business School, columnist for Inc., and founder of Spodek Academy. He has led seminars in leadership, entrepreneurship, creativity, and sales at Harvard, Princeton, MIT, the New York Academy of Science, and in private corporations. He co-founded and led (as CEO or COO) several ventures, and holds six patents. He also holds five (5) Ivy League degrees, and he studied under a Nobel Laureate. He's visited North Korea twice, swam across the Hudson River, and has even done burpees daily since 2011 -- 130,000 and counting. Due to his commitment to being a leader, he takes 16 months to produce one load of garbage, and in the age of easy access he (by choice) hasn't flown since March 2016. He's the man Esquire's Genius issue called "best and brightest", and NBC said he's an "astrophysicist turned new media whiz". So let's welcome author of Initiative: Bring Your Passions to Life!, returning champion Joshua Spodek. On this episode, we go FullMonty on: Why we need to focus on initiative rather than entrepreneurship Why leadership is NOT about telling people what to do, pushing legislation without popular support, or spreading facts, figures, doom, and gloom Why we must learn to lead AND practice initiative Using your lack of integrity to become an outstanding leader Why you being a genuinely happy leader is so important to loyalty Why it's all about the "little things" And so much more... Dr. Ellen Langer: The Art of Noticing Mindful Leadership [audio]

In a world where we know engagement sucks, if we are going to be world class leaders, we must have the self accountability to ask ourselves, are we really engaged….Are we fully present and mindful? Forget The Mother of Dragons, on the episode we go Full Monty with the Mother of Mindfulness! As a leader you know that engagement is a very real issue. Too often our employees and team members seem distracted. It's a constant struggle to find new ways to not only keep good people, but to keep them engaged…and a new ping-pong table isn't going to cut it. So in a world where almost everyone on the workforce seems to be, to a varying degree, living on the ADHD spectrum, how can we raise not only the engagement of our teams, but also of ourselves? Well stay tunes because our guest on this episode is Dr. Ellen Langer. She is a social psychologist and the first female professor to gain tenure at the department of Psychology at Harvard University. She is often referred to as the mother of the Mindful Movement. She is an artist and the author of eleven books. Over the last 35 years, she's written more than two hundred research articles for general and academic readers on mindfulness. She is also the recipient of four distinguished scientist awards and the Liberty Science Genius Award. On this episode we go Full Monty about: Mindfulness; The Power of Mindful Learning The Art of Noticing Mindful aging The illusion of control Counterclockwise: Mindful Health and the Power of Possibility Mindfulness and Health, weight loss, vision, diabetes, and colds even stage four breast cancer Why being Goal driven is contradictory to being Mindful Mindful Purpose Vs Soulful Purpose Commitment and Agility And so much more. Dr. Ellen Langer is a fascinating individual, she sees the world quite differently that your standard psychologist. There's a wonderful calm irreverence that I personally found very endearing. However, many old school leaders want to keep things the way they were, and, all too often, that's a recipe for disaster. So how do you and I work out what we need to hold onto and what to let go of? On top of that what about those who are in business partnerships? How can we maintain long term partnerships that not only work as creative collaborations, but also grow the partners in the process? Can long term partnerships work in the age of disruption. Well, stay tuned because our guest today has been involved in one of the most disrupted industries for 40+ years. We dive into The disruptions in the fickle music business and the impact on them (Hall & Oates) and as a duo. The most important lessons he's been able to impart to his son. We even talk about the famous moustache of his and the cartoon series based on it. The importance of mentors in business, in music and in life. What happens when the fame goes away. We talk about his guilty pleasures, what brings him joy. The most difficult decision he had to make that transformed his life.
