Ash Thompson looks at the Red Zone Woes and Previews the Cardinals Game | Detroit Lions Podcast
Ash Thompson Red Zone Woes and Cardinals Preview Ash Thompson takes a look at all the Detroit Lions passing attempts in the red zone. There were numerous reasons for the failures, just as coach Dan Campbell said in his press conferences. Quarterbacks, and receivers were not on the same page. There were some terrible play designs. The Lions also kept doing things they should know don't work against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week two of the NFL season. The Keys to stopping the Arizona Cardinals are simple. Cover Marvin Harrison. Don't let Kyler Murray get out of the pocket. Stop the running game in it's tracks. On the defensive side of the ball, the Cardinals are not good at run defense so the Lions need to punch them in the mouth. [538] Detroit Lions Finding Their Way - Detroit Lions Podcast
Should Fans Worry After the Buccaneers Loss? The Detroit Lions are off to a 1-1 start in the 2024 NFL season after a tough loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. In our latest podcast episode, we break down whether Lions fans should be concerned about this early-season setback. Head coach Dan Campbell remains confident in his team's potential, but some areas of concern emerged during the loss. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s play-calling came under scrutiny as the Buccaneers' defense stifled Jared Goff and the Lions' running game. While there were moments of promise, particularly from Aidan Hutchinson on defense, the question remains: are these just growing pains, or signs of deeper issues? Despite the defeat, Dan Campbell’s leadership and the resilience of players like Goff and Hutchinson give reason for optimism. The Lions showed flashes of brilliance, but they need to address their offensive struggles to avoid a similar fate in the weeks ahead. Arizona Cardinals Game Preview: What’s Next for the Detroit Lions? Looking ahead, the Detroit Lions now turn their attention to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. Coming off a frustrating loss to the Buccaneers, this game will be pivotal in setting the tone for the remainder of the 2024 NFL season. The Cardinals present a different challenge, with their high-paced offense led by Kyler Murray. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will need to strategize on how to contain Murray’s mobility, and Aidan Hutchinson will be crucial in applying pressure. On the offensive side, Ben Johnson will need to get creative to help Jared Goff bounce back from the Week 2 loss. Goff’s connection with his receivers and the effectiveness of the Lions' running game will be key to their success. As Dan Campbell emphasized in his press conference, execution and patience will be critical in overcoming Arizona's defense. The Lions are looking to improve their 1-1 record, and with the right adjustments, this game against the Cardinals could be the perfect opportunity for the team to regain momentum and solidify their place as a contender in the NFC. Tune in to the Detroit Lions Podcast for a full breakdown of the Buccaneers loss and a preview of the upcoming Arizona Cardinals game as we analyze how the Lions can get back on track this season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_vKQTcfKSU Let us know what you think about the show by commenting in the podcast thread in the subreddit, or by leaving us a voice mail message via Skype at: Detroit Lions Podcast Your input will help make the show better, and if you leave us a message on Skype, you just might be featured in an upcoming podcast! Ash's solo Post Game Rant | Detroit Lions Podcast
Ash's Solo Post-Game Rant: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Loss The Detroit Lions lost their game against a depleted Tampa Bay Buccaneers team. One side of the ball was all but single-handedly responsible. Before the season the Lions' offense was lauded as one of the best in the NFL. Well, that has not been the offense that has shown up on Sundays in 2024. The Detroit Lions Defense though has actually played pretty well. The much less lauded unit has been significantly better than the offense, particularly this week. Aaron Glenn has had his guys ready to play despite a lot of new faces, and new roles for old faces. https://youtu.be/NmD_S72lPuc Make sure to head over to our project with Detroit Lions shutdown cornerback Jerry Jacobs to help charities in Detroit. Daily DLP: Around the League | Detroit Lions Podcast
Daily DLP: Green Bay Packers Offseason The Green Bay Packers' Jordan Love is Injured, the Chicago Bears' Caleb Williams sucked, and the Minnesota Vikings' Sam Darnold is still terrible no matter how much lipstick and foundation you put on him. But this year, Ash Thompson is not content with trolling the fanbases of just the Detroit Lions' NFC North rivals. This year he is taking it league-wide. The Panthers are such a terrible organization there is no light at the end of the tunnel. The Cleveland Browns are being punished karmically for their hiring practices. The Washington Commanders are as terrible as their name even with an ownership change. With game week finally here, the energy at Ford Field promises to be electric. The Lions, having showcased a solid performance last year, aim to build on their success in the NFC Championship game with aspirations of not only reclaiming the division but also making a serious playoff run. Underneath offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s watchful eye, Jared Goff is expected to lead an explosive offense reminiscent of last year's firepower. Dr. Liao's Lions & Rams Injury Report - Detroit Lions Podcast
Dr. Liao's Lions & Rams Injury Report In the latest episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Dr. Liao provides a comprehensive injury report ahead of the Detroit Lions’ season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. As we approach the start of the 2024 NFL season, injuries on both teams are shaping up to be critical factors in this highly anticipated match-up. Injury Report Breakdown: Key Updates Ahead of the Detroit Lions' Season Opener The Detroit Lions have several key players on the injury report. Running back David Montgomery, who was expected to play a significant role this season, has been limited in practice due to a lingering ankle issue. His availability for the season opener remains uncertain, potentially opening the door for rookie Jahmyr Gibbs to take on more responsibility in the backfield. Defensively, the Lions will be monitoring linebacker James Houston, who is still recovering from a knee injury sustained in the preseason. His status for the game is questionable, and if he is unable to play, the Lions’ depth at linebacker will be tested. On the Rams’ side, wide receiver Cooper Kupp is dealing with a hamstring injury, which could limit his effectiveness against the Lions’ secondary. Additionally, quarterback Matthew Stafford has been managing elbow discomfort, raising concerns about his performance level heading into the season opener. Dr. Liao dives deep into the significance of these injuries and how they could alter the game plans for both teams. How Injuries Could Impact the Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams Game Injuries always play a significant role in NFL match-ups, and the season opener between the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams is no exception. Dr. Liao breaks down how the Lions can adjust their strategy depending on the status of key players. If Montgomery is unable to play, expect Gibbs to be the focal point of the Lions’ rushing attack, which could test the Rams' run defense. On defense, if Houston is sidelined, the Lions may need to rely on Malcolm Rodriguez and others to step up in key linebacker roles. For the Rams, the potential absence of Cooper Kupp could significantly impact their offensive game plan. Without their star wide receiver, Stafford may lean more heavily on short passes and running plays, which could play into the Lions' defensive strengths. However, Stafford’s elbow issues are something to watch closely, as any limitations in his throwing ability could hamper the Rams’ offense. Around the Division: The Chicago Bears Offseason | Detroit Lions Podcast
The Chicago Bears have revamped their roster on the offensive side of the ball. They went from Justin Fields to Caleb Williams at quarterback. They signed and drafted a stable of receivers that should put them near the top of the league. However, they still don't have a pass rush, their offensive line if OK at best, and their running backs are made of glass. How many wins does Ash thompson think the Bears will have this season, and will that be enough to keep Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles employed? [534] Detroit Lions Roster Predictions - Detroit Lions Podcast
Inside the Detroit Lions' 53-Man Roster Decisions: Training Camp Battles and Preseason Insights As the NFL preseason heats up, all eyes are on the Detroit Lions' training camp, where roster construction and battles for the 53-man roster spots are in full swing. In the latest episode of our Detroit Lions podcast, Chris and Jeff dive deep into the key decisions that will shape the team as they gear up for the upcoming NFL season. 53-Man Roster Decisions: Who Stays and Who Goes? With the preseason underway, Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions coaching staff faces the daunting task of trimming the roster down to 53 players in just 7 days. The decisions made now will have a lasting impact on the team’s performance this season. In our latest episode, we analyze the positions that are up for grabs, discuss which players have solidified their spots, and who might be on the bubble. One of the critical areas of focus is the depth at wide receiver and running back. The Lions have an array of talented players vying for limited spots, making the decision on how many to keep at each position particularly challenging. We also examine the defensive side of the ball, where the battle for the final linebacker and secondary positions is intensifying. Will the Lions opt for a heavier defensive lineup, or will they prioritize versatility by keeping more players in the offensive skill positions? We explore all these possibilities and more. Roster Construction Strategy: Balancing Talent and Need Roster construction is more than just choosing the best players; it’s about building a cohesive unit that can withstand the grueling NFL season. In this episode, we break down the Lions' approach to building their roster, paying particular attention to how many players they are likely to keep at each position. The Lions are known for their focus on depth and versatility, but with limited spots available, Dan Campbell's coaching staff must carefully consider where to allocate resources. Will they opt for additional depth in the trenches, or will they focus on bolstering their special teams unit? The decisions made during training camp and the preseason will shape the Lions' roster in a way that balances talent, need, and the unpredictability of the NFL season. As we discuss in the podcast, the preseason games serve as a crucial testing ground for fringe players looking to make the final roster. We highlight key performances and discuss how these players might fit into the Lions' long-term plans. Stay tuned to the Detroit Lions podcast for more in-depth analysis as we continue to monitor the roster battles and preseason developments leading up to the final 53-man roster announcement on August 27th. Jeff Risdon's Bag of Mail | Detroit Lions Podcast
Jeff Risdon of Lionswire opens the floodgates and takes on the burning questions that fire the hearts of Detroit Lions fans. What does Brian Branch do now, and how is that different from what he did last year? Jeff tells you. Can James Houston of Mathieu Betts make the 53-man roster? How about the UDFA crop this year, are there any dark horse candidates we need to pay more attention to? And Hendon Hooker was a third-round pick one year ago. Is he already losing the backup QB gig to a guy nobody really wants touching the field for the rest of his NFL career? Does that actually matter? Preseason Game One Preview | Detroit Lions Podcast
Jeff Risdon's thoughts on who to watch in the Detroit Lions preseason game vs. the New York Giants include Hendon Hooker, whose first time throwing the ball on a professional football field will come tonight. Will Jermar Jefferson be able to impress the Lions brass or is he auditioning for his next team? Can James Mitchell do something? Developmental projects like this season's Giovanni Manu and last season's Broderick Martin also get the opportunity to show us what they've got. The special teams reps are probably the most important for those on the roster bubble, including kicker Jake Bates, and LB DaRon Gilbert. [528] Detroit Lions 2024 Draft Results - Detroit Lions Podcast
Detroit Lions 2024 Draft Results In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff are back to react to the Detroit Lions 2024 NFL Draft! The city of Detroit hosted the 2024 NFL Draft this past weekend (to record breaking attendance we might add), and made everyone proud. Despite the silly Detroit sign that received its share of mockery, the city shone brightly as the host of one the the biggest NFL events of the year, and the largest draft attendance in history. It was an amazing event for NFL fans everywhere, and people from around the country got to see what a city on the rise, and full of hope, looks like. As if to highlight the glamour of the event, Brad Holmes and the Detroit Lions are pretty universally being praised for absolutely nailing the draft this year. The value they obtained was listed at #1 by many, and the talent they pulled is a combination of key needs and top available. Brad Holmes continues to prove he is an absolute magician at the NFL Draft, and Detroit Lions fans can walk away happy again this year with the tricks he's pulled.
