In this episode, Leah interviews Matt Davis, an investigator with the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System. Matt and Leah discuss death investigations, criminal defense, and DUI case analyses. Matt Davis is a career investigator who has handled all types of investigations, from charges of DUI to Homicide, as well as numerous civil actions of Personal Injury on behalf of the Plaintiff. He began his career in investigations as a Medicolegal Death Investigator for the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, during which he conducted nearly 400 scene investigations and was in attendance for hundreds of forensic autopsies. Beginning in late 2014, Matt began contracting with private citizens and local attorneys. Today, he consults with and performs case analyses for various attorneys in Oklahoma and is a salaried investigator with the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System where he was the 2019 Director's Award recipient for Outstanding Non-Capital Trial Investigator. Matt has completed numerous hours of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recognized training in DUI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST). He provides DUI attorneys with a detailed analysis of all available reports and videos and he has also met the statutory requirement needed to testify in court as an expert in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. In addition to the work Matt performs on DUI cases, he also conducts extensive case analyses into wrongful death and personal injury matters. Matt is one of the only private case analysts, in Oklahoma, who is also a past Diplomate of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. Matt has developed and currently teaches an eight-hour training course on the basics of conducting a death investigation which has been accepted and cataloged by CLEET for eight hours of continuing education. Matt is an avid Chicago Cubs fan, a mediocre golfer, and enjoys spending time with his wife, two kids, and labradoodle.
