She worked white collar fraud, money laundering and narcotics cases. She also was responsible for the district’s undercover operations and financial reporting of these operations. Kelly worked as a contract investigator doing over 1000 security background investigations for the Office of Personnel Management and Department of Homeland Security. Kelly has worked in the public and private sector. Most recently she worked as an investigator for Nike. Her investigations include embezzlement, conflict of interest, intellectual property, Open Source Intelligence and fraud. In this episode, Leah interviews Matt Davis, an investigator with the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System. Matt and Leah discuss death investigations, criminal defense, and DUI case analyses. Matt Davis is a career investigator who has handled all types of investigations, from charges of DUI to Homicide, as well as numerous civil actions of Personal Injury on behalf of the Plaintiff. He began his career in investigations as a Medicolegal Death Investigator for the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, during which he conducted nearly 400 scene investigations and was in attendance for hundreds of forensic autopsies. Beginning in late 2014, Matt began contracting with private citizens and local attorneys. Today, he consults with and performs case analyses for various attorneys in Oklahoma and is a salaried investigator with the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System where he was the 2019 Director's Award recipient for Outstanding Non-Capital Trial Investigator. Matt has completed numerous hours of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recognized training in DUI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST). He provides DUI attorneys with a detailed analysis of all available reports and videos and he has also met the statutory requirement needed to testify in court as an expert in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. In addition to the work Matt performs on DUI cases, he also conducts extensive case analyses into wrongful death and personal injury matters. Matt is one of the only private case analysts, in Oklahoma, who is also a past Diplomate of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. Matt has developed and currently teaches an eight-hour training course on the basics of conducting a death investigation which has been accepted and cataloged by CLEET for eight hours of continuing education. She is currently the Corporate and IT Audit Manager for QuikTrip Corporation, where she manages operational, IT, and financial audits and consulting engagements. She also co-facilitates the Enterprise Risk Management (“ERM”) program and conducts the annual risk assessment process with the CAE. Her favorite project at QuikTrip was getting to write and facilitate a series of training videos for the 20,000+ store employees. Jami enjoys being a facilitator for the Institute of Internal Auditors (“IIA”), leading both online and in-person trainings, as well as being a recurring speaker at IIA and MISTI conferences, IIA and ISACA chapters, and other local organizations. Jason Zirkle is the Training Director for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
