Aggie Lal: Healing Your Hormones, Syncing with Your Cycle, and Biohacking Like a Woman
Women have just been treated as slightly less hairy men when it comes to health and wellness. With multitudes of studies being done on everything from fat loss, fasting, and nutrition – without a single menstruating woman included in the study. Health and wellness isn’t one size fits all. In the latest episode of The Darin Olien Show, I sit down with Aggie Lal as we discuss the damage being done to women as we live in a world that’s less and less attuned to their natural cycles, she shares the challenges of feeling safe as a female traveler, and the true health impacts of suppressing emotions for the sake of keeping others happy. Aggie Lal is the best-selling author of ‘Biohack Like a Woman’, certified nutrition and health coach, host of the top rated podcast ‘Biohacking Bestie’, and TEDx speaker on a mission to revolutionize the world of biohacking for women. Anthony Youn: How to Age Younger + Feel Younger for Life
Welcome to The Darin Olien Show. Here’s the truth: If you want to look younger on the outside, you need to become younger on the inside. There is a direct correlation between how healthy your body is internally with how young you look externally – and this is exactly what we dive into in this episode the Darin Olien Show with guest Dr. Anthony Youn. We dive into the concept of ‘autojuvenation,’ which refers to the body’s natural regenerative abilities, why we should take a holistic health approach that focuses on aiding the body’s own renewal processes for youthful vitality, and why we shouldn’t be exclusively relying solely on surgical interventions. We also emphasize the importance of nutrition in medicine and how a deficiency in nutritional education among medical professionals needs to be addressed. Our discussion also covers the connection between gut health and aging, the significance of dietary choices on skin health and overall vitality, and the difference between chronological and biological age. Dr. Anthony Youn is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Award-Winning Author, and Anti-Aging Expert and has a new book that just released: Younger for Life. As a successful plastic surgeon for twenty years who performed tens of thousands of successful cosmetic procedures – he realized that the key to true beauty lies in a holistic approach to youth and surgery should be a last resort. NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS | FATAL CONVENIENCES™
Making a New Year’s resolution is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, setting goals and setting out to improve yourself and your life is a very positive action to take. However, making unachievable resolutions is just setting you up for stress and disappointment. Why do we start off the New Year by making resolutions we can’t keep? Let me start off by saying I’m actually a fan of New Year’s resolutions. Every year, I reevaluate my current goals and set new ones for the year. However, I’m not a fan of unreasonable resolutions that set you up for failure. Or of the social pressure that comes every January 1st. Pressure does not create opportunity. It just creates stress. On average, Americans make the same resolutions every year: lose weight, work out, eat better, quit smoking, save money and drink less. There’s nothing wrong with any of those resolutions. But I’m curious about the underlying reasons for them. If you want to lose weight to look good in Instagram pictures or quit smoking so your partner stops bothering you about it- you’re more likely to break that resolution quickly. But if you want to lose weight to feel better about yourself and more content in your life, you may actually succeed! We need to start thinking about the intent behind these resolutions. Why do you want to achieve this goal? This episode is not about ragging on anyone who sets a New Year’s resolution. It’s about learning how to make resolutions that help you improve your life. I don’t want your goals to set you on a shame spiral. I want to help you achieve all your goals in a healthy way. We need to dig a little deeper into the “why” before we can get to the “how”. WELCOME TO THE DARIN OLIEN SHOW. We are “smartifying” our world but it’s actually not smart for our health – how ironic is that? We are in this fight between how to keep up with the modern world filled with EMF’s and how to protect ourselves and our health. Fatal Conveniences™: Thanksgiving
Welcome to Fatal Conveniences™. Here’s a shocking statistic you probably didn’t know about Thanksgiving meals: An average Thanksgiving plate contains about 80-90 grams of fat which is as much as 1⅓ sticks of butter – and it contains on average 75 grams of sugar, which is equivalent to almost 20 teaspoons of pure sugar. Plus, the average person will gain between two to four pounds after the Thanksgiving feast. This isn’t even getting into the actual ingredients being used in the traditional thanksgiving foods – especially a traditional stuffed turkey. This doesn’t mean we need to cancel Thanksgiving – it simply means it’s time to rethink what your thanksgiving meals look like and how to approach the holiday in a more sustainable way. That’s why in this episode of Fatal Conveniences, we’ll explore Thanksgiving Meals. Fatal Conveniences™: Pet Food
You wouldn’t eat a bag of dried pellets made of meat by-products. So why would you feed it to your pet? Welcome to Fatal Conveniences™ Just like humans, animals need proper nutrition to thrive and live happy, healthy lives. Most store-bought pet foods consist of low-quality meats, fillers and preservatives. Pet food manufacturers are constantly trying to make the food-making process cheaper. So that means cheap ingredients and cheap packaging. All of that results in poor nutritional health for your furry friends. This one isn’t tough, guys. We need to make sure our pets are eating whole, nutritional foods. I choose a plant-based diet for myself, but I know a vegan diet isn’t best for my German Shepherd, Chaga. So I give him a fresh, mostly raw diet consisting of 75% meat and 25% veggies and ancient grains. In this episode, I’ll give you some tips on how to use fresh food for your dog and some fresh pet food companies that I love. I discuss the gross history of pet food companies, signs that your pet has a poor diet, why raw food is best for pets, studies that reveal the horrifying ingredients in dry pet food, if grain-free is better for your dog, what foods are best for cats and dogs, and great fresh pet food companies. BREAKDOWN What I discuss: (0:02:02) – The history of pet food, its impact on pet health, and the need to treat our pets as family members (0:09:12) – The dangers of processed pet food, the lack of regulations, the questionable ingredients permitted in pet food, and the potential toxins in pet food (0:23:04) – The importance of conscious decision-making when it comes to the products we give our pets links Find more from Darin: Website: https://superlife.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/Darinolien/ Book: https://superlife.com/fatal-conveniences-book/ Down to Earth: https://superlife.com/down-to-earth/ SPONSORS Thank you to our sponsor: Therasage: Go to www.therasage.com and use code DARIN at checkout for 15% off. Fatal Conveniences™: The Hidden Cost of Halloween
If you live in the United States, you’ve most likely celebrated Halloween – you’ve gone trick or treating, you’ve carved a pumpkin, you’ve dressed up in costumes – you’ve done it all. While this holiday can be fun and add some excitement to our lives, it also comes at a cost. For example, did you know in the United States, most of the 900,000 tons of pumpkin produced annually will be trashed, rather than used as food or composted? This enormous waste adds to the already critical global food waste crisis. Overall, around 1.3 billion tons of global waste are created each year. (World Economic Forum, 2019) This is just a small glimpse into the amount of waste created from this holiday, let alone the impact it can have on your health. From pumpkins and candy to costumes, decorations, and more, we need to look at the global impact of this holiday from every angle. That’s why in this episode of Fatal Conveniences™, we’re going to explore the holiday Halloween and how we can start to celebrate in a more sustainable and health-conscious way. Dr. Joel Kahn: The Connection Between Endocrine Disruptors, Microplastics, and Heart Health
In this episode of the Darin Olien Show, we explore the connection between endocrine disruptors, microplastics, and heart health. My guest, Dr. Joel Kahn discusses how these chemicals, which are pervasive in our environment, can disrupt the balance of hormones, increasing cholesterol levels, and thereby affecting our cardiovascular health. Dr. Kahn also dives into what diets are helping and hurting your heart health, the diet habits of different cultures around the world and how each has affected their health, the potential risks of meat consumption and the paleo/ketogenic diet, as well as the misconception around the need for animal protein to build muscle. As one of the world’s top cardiologists, having practiced traditional cardiology since 1983, Dr. Joel Kahn has treated thousands of acute heart attacks during his career. He’d like all that to stop. He’d like to prevent ALL future heart attacks by breaking through to the public to educate and inspire a new holistic lifestyle. After his own commitment to a plant-based vegan diet, he truly began to delve into the realm of non-traditional diagnostic tools, prevention tactics and nutrition-based recovery protocols. These ideologies led him to change his approach and focus on being a holistic cardiologist. Julie Nguyen: How to Change Your Unhealthy Eating Habits
Most of you know what processed foods do to your health, yet your lifestyle doesn’t always accommodate “healthy eating,” and you “need” to succumb to processed foods. Here’s a stat that may or may not be shocking to you: Up to 70% of US calories are from ultra-processed food. This is leading to our obesity epidemic – yet our current healthcare system fails to provide any effective solutions. That’s why in this episode of the Darin Olien Show, we’ll explore tangible ways to overcome this hurdle by making eating healthy the easiest thing you do each day. My guest, Julie Nguyen, not only discusses effective ways to break out of unhealthy eating patterns, but also discusses the importance of seeking out alternative health care solutions, the importance of personal motivation and research in achieving optimal health, and the healthy food delivery Innovation: Methodology. Julie is the CEO and co-founder of Methodology, a gourmet food delivery service that is revolutionizing the way we eat on the go – which is also known for their Michelin-quality meals housed in reusable, sustainable packaging. What This Bathroom Staple Is Doing To Your Health…
Plastic shower curtain liners are super convenient, easy to use, and easy to throw away after a period of time when they get moldy or mildew. However, not only is the plastic waste harmful to our environment, these plastic shower curtains contain a plethora of toxic chemicals to our body which we are exposed to every time we shower. When the Center for Health, Environment & Justice tested PVC shower curtains, they found that 108 different volatile organic compounds were released from the shower curtain into the air over twenty-eight days. Fortunately, there are some great alternative shower curtain materials like linen, organic cotton, and hemp that can be washed and reused and don’t subject our bodies to harsh chemicals. That’s why in this episode, we’ll explore the Fatal Convenience, Plastic Shower Curtains. Don’t forget… You can order now by heading to darinolien.com/fatal-conveniences-book or order now on Amazon.
