Los Angeles Prosecutors Decry Disturbing Results of DA George Gascon's Policies

LOS ANGELES—What is a rogue prosecutor? Why is Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon considered one of the most progressive prosecutors in America? How have his new policies led to a crime increase in Los Angeles? Gascon has “really completely abandoned his responsibility to the public,” says Kathy Cady, a former Los Angeles prosecutor who now works as a victim’s rights attorney. The ways in which Gascon is changing L.A's prosecutorial system is “negatively impacting communities of color” and “murder victims' families,” Cady says. Rep. Debbie Lesko Reveals GOP Plan to Lower Gas Prices

As gas and other energy prices continue to soar, Americans are desperate for relief. The question is, what does Congress plan to do about it? Rep. Debbie Lesko, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has some answers on today’s edition of “The Daily Signal Podcast.” Lesko, R-Ariz., pledges that if the GOP regains the majority in Congress, lawmakers will act swiftly to reduce gas prices and increase America’s energy independence. “Republicans will introduce legislation to codify into law some of the rules and regulations that the Trump administration put forward … to reduce the time for permitting of new production facilities, reduce the time of permitting for new pipelines, and help Americans increase U.S. oil and gas production,” Lesko says. “When Republicans come into control, we want to put America first,” she says. Lesko discusses the Biden administration’s failure to manage gas prices, and what congressional Republicans see as the solutions. Historian Explains How 6 Presidents Fought Washington Swamp

From time to time, the American people elect a champion to take on the Washington swamp. Historian Larry Schweikart joins "The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss his new book "Dragonslayers: Six Presidents and Their War With the Swamp." The six presidents Schweikart profiles are Abraham Lincoln, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump. They came from different backgrounds and different political parties, but all had their own unique tussles with the swamp during their time in office. The presidential historian lays out the almost cyclical nature of Americans electing swamp fighters. "I think also we see a pattern where these guys kind of knock the swamp back a little bit, and then it crawls back to life, like some horrible monster and 10, 15, 20 years later, somebody else has to step up and fight it again," Schweikart says. Schweikart is a historian of American political history and has written numerous books, including the best-selling "A Patriot's History of the United States." We also cover these stories: President Joe Biden on Monday called Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal, and said evidence should be gathered in order to put him on trial. Biden says he is ending a COVID-19-era immigration-control policy. Title 42 was originally implemented by then-President Donald Trump. Three Republican state attorneys general are suing to block the Biden move. A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed that billionaire Elon Musk had purchased a 9.2% stake in Twitter Inc., making him the tech titan's single-biggest shareholder. What Educating Our Kids Looks Like After COVID-19

This Saturday edition of "The Daily Signal Podcast" features a discussion with Andy Smarick, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, on how education is evolving after the COVID-19 pandemic. School lockdowns, masking, and other restrictions have affected how parents across America think about their children's education. COVID-19 accelerated certain trends that already were afoot, such as the demand for increasing school choice opportunities outside public schools. Moreover, parts of America have been the scene of tremendous battles over the content of curriculum, particularly regarding critical race theory, which parents were shocked to find in their children's instruction. So what's next? Smarick observes that COVID-19 launched "small learning communities really oriented around the needs of families and kids" because restrictions during the pandemic resulted in "50 million students [who] suddenly had to find something different because their schools were shut down." "And that's when we saw the rise of pods, hubs, and hybrid homeschooling and also microschooling," he says. "This is just a wonderful Tocquevillian response, spontaneous order to a calamitous situation where all these parents were saying, 'Heavens, we just need new options for our kids because they're not getting anything and I still have to work.'" The real question is whether this revolution in education will continue. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

March for Life Marches On in Hopes of a Post-Roe World

The Supreme Court is considering the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which has the potential to severely limit or eliminate access to abortion. Each year since 1974, the March for Life has made its way peacefully through the nation’s capital, its hosts of participants calling for an end to abortion on demand, which the high court ushered in with its 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade. Now that the time may be at hand, the event is coming to various states, where the fight for life will go on. Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, recently visited Connecticut for that state's first march. She says life is winning, even in states as blue as Connecticut. "We got over 3,000 people out for the first march, which is a good number for a state march, and the enthusiasm was palpable," Mancini says. "Churches were very active. ... There were a lot of periphery events, and I'm hoping and praying that we started just a new spark with the grassroots in Connecticut for life." Mancini joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss the pro-life movement's next step, and what a post-Roe world might look like. We also cover these stories: President Joe Biden says he has a plan to cut gas prices by releasing a million barrels of reserve oil per day. Sen. Rep. Kevin Hern Offers GOP Alternative to Biden's Tax-and-Spend Budget

President Joe Biden on Monday announced a proposed federal budget for fiscal year 2023 that includes a wish list of leftist policy proposals as well as an unprecedented tax on unrealized gains. To Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., Biden's budget fails to help Americans deal with exploding inflation and doubles down on the deficit spending that got America into this mess in the first place. "The Biden budget is horrendous. It increases spending by some $75 trillion over the next decade," Hern says. "It increases taxes by $55 trillion. We got $55 trillion in taxes. So you do the math, and that's $20 trillion in additional debt over the next decade on top of our $31 trillion now." "So by his own budget, it never balances, and we have over $50 trillion in debt in 10 years," the Oklahoma Republican says on "The Daily Signal Podcast." Worse still, that increase in debt compounds horrific inflation. "Inflation is a taxation on everyone. It knows no party. It knows no economic status of a family," Hern says. "But what it does do, it hurts everybody, more on the lower end of the income scale than it does some on the upper end." Hern and his GOP colleagues offer an alternative, a plan to lower the deficit and unleash the American economy. "Our goal is to remind the Americans what the conservative values of the Republican party are about being fiscally responsible, limited government, keeping more money in your pocket so that you can spend in your communities where we don't have to reallocate it from the federal government," he says. Hern joins the show to discuss Biden's budget and the GOP alternative. Rep. Garret Graves: America Can Take These Steps Toward Energy Independence

As gas prices rise, the Biden administration is “looking for someone to blame, and unfortunately they really just need to turn and look at themselves,” Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., says. The Biden administration “talks about environmental sustainability, [but] they don't think about economic sustainability as well,” Graves says, adding that when it comes to energy policy, President Joe Biden seems to be “governing by emotion, not by fact, science, and economics.” Graves, who heads the Energy, Climate, and Conservation task force for the House's GOP caucus, joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” from the House Republican Issues Conference in Florida to discuss Biden’s mishandling of American energy policy, and what lawmakers can do in the long and short term to lower gas prices and move the country back toward energy independence. PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.—Republicans say they have a plan to address the biggest problems facing our country, problems they say the left created. What danger does China actually pose to America? How closely are China and Russia working together? Is the Biden administration doing enough to prepare for foreign policy threats? If America does not take strategic action now, our children will be the ones bearing the burden of that tension between China and America, the Texas lawmaker says. How Penny Nance Is Fighting to Keep Men Out Women's Sports

Transgender swimmer Lia Thompson is making waves. The biological male swimmer from the University of Pennsylvania is dominating his female counterparts in the pool. Thompson's races have garnered a massive amount of media attention, and an increasing number of Americans are questioning how it's fair that a man can compete with women. Penny Nance, president and CEO of Concerned Women for America, says that the biological men are destroying women's sports, and that it's simply not fair for female athletes to be forced to compete against them. "When you have young women who have worked for years, through their careers in high school and you have moms and dads who have gotten up in the dark at 5:00 AM to drive their daughters to swim practice... but now they're being forced to compete against biological men... It's not a fair fight," Nance argues. "They can't win. Ultimately, they cannot win. And Lia Thomas typifies this issue." A Look at Judge Jackson's Record on Unions

President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, has come under fire for her positions on child porn sentencing, court stacking, and immigration. Now David Osborne, CEO of Americans for Fair Treatment, tells "The Daily Signal Podcast" that Jackson has another controversial position: her views on labor. "Even taking Ketanji Brown Jackson at her best, she's got new judicial philosophies. She's got her own view on the First Amendment and how it should work. She's definitely got her own perspective on how federal sector bargaining should work," says Osborne. "And she's going to bring that to the court. And she may drive some of these issues. I think unions are getting what they're paying for." Osborne joins the show to discuss those concerns, and what they could mean if Jackson is confirmed to the court. We also cover these stories: Sen. How Student Protesters Killed Free Speech at Yale Law School

Free speech is under fire at America's universities. It's an open secret that liberals dominate academia and wield their power with impunity on college campuses. But recently, radical leftists have become more brazen with their attempts speech and organizations they don't like. During a recent bipartisan free speech event at Yale Law School, a mob of student protesters shouted down Kristen Waggoner, general counsel of Alliance Defending Freedom. Protesters were "shouting down the speakers, shouting down some of their fellow students who had conservative views, and then they left and started pounding on the walls outside of the exits at the building, eventually creating what felt like an unsafe environment and the police were called," says Waggoner. Waggoner joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss what happened at that Yale event, and how free speech is in decline at America’s universities. The Next Generation of Courageous Leaders

Generation Z is already making its mark on America. Born after 1996, these young Americans came of age in an era of rapid technological change—smartphones, social media, and our interconnected world. The oldest are already in the workforce while others are in the process of figuring out their careers. Fortunately, there are good organizations to provide the leadership and training for this next generation. The Fund for American Studies is one of them. It has influenced the lives of thousands of conservative leaders, journalists (including The Daily Signal's own Fred Lucas), and others since its founding in 1967. The organization is currently recruiting for its summer programs, which include international affairs, public policy and economics, journalism and communications, business and government relations, and leadership and the American presidency. How the Conservative Movement Was Built

Stan Evans helped build the conservative movement by founding the American Conservative Union, the Conservative Political Action Conference, and establishing the National Journalism Center. He was, in addition, a tremendous journalist and thinker. His book, "The Theme Is Freedom," should be a conservative classic, Steven Hayward observes in his new book, "M. Stanton Evans: Conservative Wit, Apostle of Freedom." What also made Stan Evans so very unique was his tremendous humor which he used to undermine Progressive moralizing. Hayward notes that a standard liberal critique of America was to say that any country that can land a man on the moon, can enact x progressive policy. Evans's response was "any country that can land a man on the moon can abolish the income tax." Evans once said to the consternation of liberals at Princeton that "I didn't support Nixon until after Watergate. Look, after wage and price controls, Watergate was a breath of fresh air." They were not amused, but we can be and learn from this giant of conservative journalism and institution building. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Getting Squeezed at Pump? Blame Biden, Not Putin

All across the country, Americans are facing staggering gasoline prices, pinching their wallets even further as inflation runs rampant. But what’s causing gas prices to skyrocket? The Biden administration blames Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine, as well as greedy U.S. business owners, for the sharp rise in prices. But that doesn’t pass the smell test for Katie Tubb, a senior policy analyst for energy and environmental issues at The Heritage Foundation. “I think it’s incredibly disingenuous for the administration to say that, in part because Americans aren’t stupid and they saw prices go up before Russia invaded Ukraine,” Tubb says. “And so I find that, honestly, a very discouraging characterization by the Biden administration.” Tubb joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss what’s really causing soaring gas prices, and how the Biden administration needs to respond to fix it. Trump's Ambassador to Mexico Details Biden's Failures on Border

Under President Donald Trump, the number of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S. fell. But now, under President Joe Biden, that progress has been reversed and record numbers of migrants are making their way across the border illegally. To Christopher Landau, former U.S. ambassador to Mexico, this didn't have to be the case. "I'm not sure I would say that Biden has a vision about the relationship with Mexico. To be honest with you, I think he just doesn't want to do what Trump did," Landau says. "Biden and a lot of people in his party spent four years saying that Trump was literally Hitler and that these were terrible border policies," the former ambassador adds. "And so on Day One, they came in with a lot of activists who had been the ones screaming the loudest against Trump and [issued] all kinds of orders, executive orders that basically loosened control over the border. And not surprisingly, that immediately led to a huge wave of people." Landau joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss his tenure representing America abroad, and how we can fix the ongoing crisis in border security. We also cover these stories: Sen. America's Economic Freedom Tumbles in Decadelong Decline

Last year, America was ranked 20th in The Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom. This year, America’s rating in the index fell five places and now stands at No. 25, behind nations such as Ireland, Canada, and Chile. “We've been on about a decadelong decline in our economic freedom,” Terry Miller, a visiting fellow for economic freedom at The Heritage Foundation, says. (The Daily Signal is Heritage's multimedia news organization.) Miller joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the recently released 2022 Index of Economic Freedom, and why America is falling further behind. Are Bitcoin and Other Forms of Cryptocurrency the Future of Money?

Cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and ethereum are popping up everywhere. But many Americans may not completely understand what they are. As governments around the globe struggle to legislate on this new digital money, it can be useful to know exactly what’s going on. Heritage Foundation research fellow Peter St. Onge, an economist, says he sees incredible possibilities for a future with various forms of cryptocurrency. "You could replace the entire insurance industry with a couple of lines of code, and then you could run those on something like ethereum, so the concept of cryptocurrency is astoundingly powerful," St. Onge says. "The main application most people are aware of is bitcoin, but there are many, many applications. We've only just begun with it." Unfortunately, governments seem intent on limiting cryptocurrencies. "There are a number of government agencies that have been trying to either harness bitcoin or to destroy it intentionally and they haven't really resolved who's the top dog on that hill," St. Onge says. "It has created an enormous amount of regulatory risk within crypto." St. Onge joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and what you need to know. How Conservatives Can Engage Latino Voters

In recent elections, conservatives have seen large gains with Latino voters. But what is causing this increase in conservative Latino engagement? FreedomWorks vice president of policy Cesar Ybarra joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to dive into the reasons. "The Democrats label [Donald] Trump as the most racist, anti-Hispanic president in America in history, and what happened?" says Ybarra. "He increased his share of the Latino vote in those four years by nearly 10 points." Issues that drive Hispanic voters, Ybarra says, include supporting law enforcement, increasing parental oversight of schools, and lowering prices. City Punishes Pub Owner for Opposing COVID Mandates

Government mandates and authoritarian COVID-19 rules have crushed small businesses in America. In the nation’s capital alone, hundreds of restaurants are now closed. Others are struggling to make ends meet. Despite all the happy talk from President Joe Biden in last week's State of the Union address, some businesses will never recover. For every Democrat politician who is suddenly abandoning COVID mandates, there are scores of shattered businesses left in their wake. For nearly two years, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the D.C. Council have invoked emergency powers—imposing mask mandates for schools and businesses and requiring restaurants to check customers’ vaccine status. A few courageous Washington, D.C., business owners spoke at The Heritage Foundation last week about the city's restrictive COVID rules. They've felt the effects firsthand. One of them is Eric Flannery, a Navy veteran and co-owner of The Big Board on H Street NE in Washington, D.C. Flannery and his lawyer, Robert Alt, president and CEO of The Buckeye Institute, joined "The Daily Signal Podcast" to explain why they're fighting for The Big Board's survival in a city where political leaders have amassed unprecedented power. The Legacy of the Freedom Convoy in Canada

For nearly a month a convoy of truckers in Canada captivated the nation by raucous but largely peaceful protesting with parked trucks in downtown Ottawa. To the surprise of the government, public opinion was mixed over the convoy's appearance. The truckers opposed the severe regime of Covid restrictions and mandates that the Canadian federal government had imposed on the population. The long-distance truckers stridently rejected the vaccination requirement, among other burdens placed on their daily work. After weeks spent parked in Ottawa, adjacent to the Canadian Parliament, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, imposed the Emergencies Act to bring the Freedom Convoy to an end. In this manner, Trudeau used a law meant for true situations of national security and applied it expansively and without factual justification to a civil protest. Banks froze the accounts of anyone suspected of supporting the protests. The truckers were dispersed in short order. In acting outside the bounds of law, the Canadian government may have created a new moment in Canadian politics. In opposing one of the strictest Covid regimes in western democracies, the Freedom Convoy seems to have sparked an end to much of Canada's worst Covid policies. But what is the real legacy of the Freedom Convoy? Joanna Baron, a lawyer in Canada and Executive Director of the the Canadian Constitution Foundation, is on the legal front lines in Canada and joins us to discuss this question. She observes that "we're going to see an injection of populism into Canadian politics going forward." Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Learn more about your ad choices. What Could Be Next in Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Moscow—and much of the rest of the world—expected Ukraine to fall quickly after Russia invaded it. Why hasn't it? Dr. Peter McCullough: Early COVID-19 Treatment Sacrificed to Promote Vaccine

Early treatment for COVID-19 was not prioritized. Why? Cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough says he believes health officials did not pursue early treatment options because they did not want to discourage Americans from being vaccinated. "There was a belief, and I think there's still a belief today among many stakeholders, is that the only way a vaccine is going to work is if every single person takes it. ... In order to do that, if we have suppression of early treatment and people think there's no other or option, they're going to be much more likely to take the vaccine," says McCullough. "I think, actually, a suppression of early treatment was by design a vaccine promotion strategy." In December, McCullough joined “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast to discuss failures to pursue early treatment options for COVID-19. Rogan was criticized for the interview with McCullough. Only a few weeks later, Dr. Robert Malone also joined Rogan’s show to discuss the pandemic. Afterward, a movement arose to deplatform Rogan. “Joe Rogan is in the thick of it now,” McCullough says. McCullough joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the failures in the fight against COVID-19, and the left’s reaction to his interview with Rogan. Seattle Talk Show Host Explains How Radical Leftists Ruined Pacific Northwest

The streets of Seattle are filled with drug needles, homeless tents, and violent political agitators. What used to be a city known for its Space Needle and Nirvana has now become one of a series of case studies for the consequences of leftist rule over America's cities. Jason Rantz, a Seattle-area radio host, has seen firsthand the horrific impact the radical left has had on his city. "It looks like a hellscape at this point," Rantz says. "You have tent cities everywhere. You have used needles on the ground. You have human waste on the ground ... . The Pacific Northwest in general is known as being just beautiful. Really, supposedly, we respect nature. Not anymore, not with how bad it's gotten. You've got graffiti all over the place, which just doesn't feel good to live in that kind of area anymore." Hawley Warns Biden Against Sending Troops To Ukraine: ‘We Do Not Need American Soldiers Fighting in Europe’

Sen. Josh Hawley accused President Joe Biden of “haphazard, feckless foreign policy” Thursday, insisting that “we do not need American soldiers fighting in Europe.” The Missouri Republican discussed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during a Thursday interview with The Daily Signal's Mary Margaret Olohan at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida, where he repeatedly emphasized that Biden’s “weakness” has led to the escalating situation in Ukraine. “We need to be really clear that what the Russians are doing is absolutely wrong, that it is a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty, and now we need a policy,” Hawley said. “Joe Biden hasn’t had any policy.” “We should shut down Russia’s energy production and open ours,” he added. “We are the greatest energy-producing nation in the world. Arizona AG Mark Brnovich Fights for Trump's Immigration Rule at Supreme Court

Illegal immigration is taking the spotlight at the Supreme Court. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich argued Wednesday before the nine justices in favor of former President Donald Trump’s "public charge" rule. That rule, based on a concept that goes back to 1882, would prevent illegal immigrants from gaining citizenship if they use too many social services such as food stamps or Medicaid. In Brnovich's words, it's only fair that hardworking Americans get priority over those "cutting the line." "I just think that a lot of folks, hardworking, middle-class taxpayers in our country, not just in Arizona, all over, understand what's fair is what's fair," Brnovich says. "It's not fair for someone to come in and basically cut in line and then get government benefits." Brnovich, a Republican, joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss how the Supreme Court arguments went, and what the "public charge" rule means for our immigration system. Christian-Based Credit Union Offers Alternative to Big Banks

In this age of cancel culture, nothing is off limits for the woke left. Christians and conservatives increasingly find themselves on the defensive. Deplatforming and censorship are the norm on social media. In fact, it happened to The Daily Signal just last week for allegedly violating YouTube’s COVID-19 “misinformation” policy. And while having a video removed or a Twitter account suspended is deeply problematic, it’s not nearly as insurmountable as when your financial institution decides to cancel you. That happened earlier this month in Canada when Toronto-Dominion Bank froze two personal accounts with $1.1 million over support for the “Freedom Convoy” protest against the country’s vaccine mandates. Unfortunately, that’s now a reality in the United States, too. Last November, JPMorgan Chase subsidiary WePay—an online payment processor—canceled the account of a conservative PAC in Missouri after it scheduled an event with Donald Trump Jr. While big banks and financial institutions cave to the woke left, there are fortunately alternatives in the marketplace. America’s Christian Credit Union, founded in 1958, is one. On today’s episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast,” Frank Clement, the credit union’s director of strategic partnerships, explains how things have changed in recent years and why America’s Christian Credit Union remains true to its mission. Clement also shares how the COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped the education landscape and created an unprecedented opportunity for school choice. America’s Christian Credit Union is attempting to do its part by helping the formation of new schools and providing financial assistance to parents. Hosted on Acast. How April 1945 Proved to Be 'Hinge of History'

A single month determined the course of the 20th century. That’s what historian Craig Shirley writes about in his newest book, “April 1945: The Hinge of History.” It’s Shirley’s follow-up to “December 1941,” in which the author and political consultant recounted stories from the lives of leaders and everyday Americans during the attack on Pearl Harbor and the days that followed. The events of April 1945 are the bookend to the greatest war in human history, as Shirley outlines on this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast.” President Franklin Roosevelt died, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini was captured and executed by his angry countrymen, and Adolf Hitler shot himself in a Berlin bunker alongside his mistress, Eva Braun, as the Red Army and Western armies closed in. Discovery of Nazi death camps at Dachau and Auschwitz revealed the depth of evil committed by the Nazi regime. “What’s really interesting,” Shirley says, “is that The New York Times and The Washington Post rarely if ever reported that it was Jews who were primarily being exterminated by the Nazis.” What followed was a world wholly changed. As the German Reich crumbled and the war drew down to its last days, the United States found itself in a new position as the unquestioned leader of the free world. Hosted on Acast. What Is National Conservatism?

A new group of thinkers and activists calling themselves national conservatives believe American politics and policy questions increasingly invite a national approach. They seek to combat the left's attempt to bury our constitutional order and replace it with a matrix of identity politics, vast social spending, and other objectives. Chris DeMuth, a leader of the national conservatism movement and former president of the American Enterprise Institute, joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to explore the main trends of American conservatism and what national conservatism brings to the discussion. Conservatism must move beyond, DeMuth argues, a fusionism that makes individual freedom the only end sought by policy and understand that culture, patriotism, community, and faith are equally important for policymaking. On today's episode, we discuss the thinkers, ideas, and books that national conservatism offers amid current political challenges and debates: Should conservatism embrace a worker first set of policies—industrial policy, labor-union revival, and wage subsides? How would national conservatism navigate foreign policy? Is realism and restraint the best approach for American defense strategy in the 21st Century? What does national conservatism bring regarding health care, environmental, and education policies? Our lively discussion also considers the post-liberal conservatives and how they fit or do not fit into national conservatism. Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears: Schools 'Not Going to Be Able’ to Keep Mask Mandates

Virginia's new law banning mask mandates in schools isn't optional, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears says. Schools are “not going to be able" to require students to continue wearing masks, Sears said during an interview Thursday with "The Daily Signal Podcast." Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed a bill Wednesday that, as of March 1, will prohibit schools across the commonwealth from requiring the wearing of masks because of COVID-19. Although many school districts across the country have ended mask mandates, several counties in Northern Virginia have opted to continue masking children. Schools have to "allow the parents the opportunity to decide for themselves whether their children will wear a mask," Sears says in the podcast interview. Youngkin and Sears, both Republicans, were sworn in Jan. 15 for four-year terms after winning Virginia's Nov. 2 election. During the campaign, the two committed to returning power to parents in the education of children. On the podcast, Sears discusses why she and Youngkin stand against critical race theory and other far-left policies that have affected children across the state. 'Red-Handed' Author Peter Schweizer Reveals How China Captured America's Elites

America's elites are selling out their country to the Chinese Communist Party. Politicians, athletes, filmmakers, and others from the highest echelons of American society have apparently decided it is more profitable to kowtow to Beijing than it is to support their own country. So says Peter Schweizer, author of the new book "Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win," which exposes how even President Joe Biden's family is implicated. As Schweizer explains, "In the case of the Bidens, these commercial ties really began when Joe Biden was vice president of the United States. [His son] Hunter Biden went to Beijing looking for financial deals and what we found is that the Bidens have received some $31 million from four Chinese businessmen. "The story takes an even more dramatic turn when you realize that those four Chinese businessmen all have links to the highest levels of Chinese intelligence." Schweizer joins the show to discuss how and why these elites are "helping China win."
