A landmark report from the United Nations’s children’s fund (UNICEF) has found that young people are experiencing concerningly high rates of discrimination. They’re feeling increasingly disconnected from their communities and concerned about their futures, while developmental outcomes show the youngest Aussies are falling the furthest behind.  What are the barriers to achieving better outcomes, and what needs to change? The Coalition has announced it will abandon Australia’s target of net zero by 2050, to instead focus on affordable energy. On Sunday, they promised they would bring down energy bills for Australians, by removing the renewable energy targets enshrined in law by Labor. It’s the biggest policy announcement from the Coalition since their loss at the last election in May. The Coalition is in the middle of a major internal showdown over its climate policy, after the Nationals recently announced they were dumping their support for net zero.  Yesterday, Liberal MPs gathered in Canberra to discuss whether the party should maintain its commitment to net zero by 2050.
