The 5 Money Personalities: Speaking the Same Love and Money Language with The Money Couple, Scott and Bethany Palmer
Money is the number one cause of friction between couples. Out of the 50% of marriages that end in divorce, 70% of them end because of financial issues. This is a staggering number, but money in marriage is not something we are taught to navigate, and we don't know how to show our kids a good example either. Today we have The Money Couple, Scott and Bethany Palmer on The Dad Edge. They are financial advisors who got tired of seeing their clients' marriages destroyed because of money. Together they wrote The 5 Money Personalities and The 5 Money Conversations to Have with Your Kids at Every Age and Stage. Scott and Bethany reveal the 5 money personalities, the reasoning behind each one, and how we can learn to work with our spouse's and our children's money personalities. They also discuss how harmful it is to argue about money in front of the kids and how to use money language to actually bring your marriage and family closer than ever before. (You'll also get a link at the end of the show to a money personality assessment for you and your whole family. Surviving Suicide: A Dad's Story
Suicide is the number one killer among men aged 35-50. The World Health Organization reports that suicide represents half of all male violent deaths worldwide. Why are men at such risk and what can we do about it? Men are more likely to go for desperate measures for several reasons. Our culture teaches men to internalize emotions and hide distress. At the same time, men tend to lose their close friends and support systems as they step into the role of a provider. They're also reluctant to seek help when struggling with anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts. The first step in doing something about suicide among men is raising awareness. Today, one of our Dad Edge Alliance Commanders courageously steps up to share his story. Nick Sotelo recounts his intense battle against rage, darkness, and suicide. He also tells us how to interrupt the negative scripts that run through our heads and what to do when overwhelmed with shame and hopelessness. We never know what is going to send us or someone we care about down a dark road. This is an episode every dad should listen to for himself and any boy or man he knows. Self-Compassion and Accountability for Dads
As men, we usually are all or nothing. We have the tendency to set extreme goals, and if we have one setback, we take that as proof we can't succeed and give up entirely. But if we practice both self-compassion and accountability, we can forgive ourselves, dust off, and get back on track. Today, we have one of our Dad Edge Alliance Mastermind Commander on the show, Paul Richardson. He's in charge of ensuring the men on his team are executing their plans. Paul says we won't be motivated all the time, and that's okay. It doesn't mean we can't stay on the path to success. Instead of beating ourselves up for the bad days, we must learn to trust the process, asking for help along the way. We can grow at our own pace, forgiving ourselves when we have a setback and loving ourselves enough to be patient. The Relentless Pursuit of a Life You Love
E82% of us hate what we do for a living, yet we do it for 40 hours a week or more. How much is staying where you are costing you? Today we talk with Dad Edge Alliance Mastermind commander, Sean Hutchins. He used to hate his job, coming home in a bad mood, not showing up for his wife and daughter, and gaining forty pounds. One day he took an objective look at his situation and realized that the cost of staying miserable was much more than the risk of trying something new. Sean decided to take the leap and design his own life. What's possible for you? Listen to how to begin the relentless pursuit of a life you love in this episode! In recent episodes, I talked about a rite of passage experience I created for my 11-year-old Mason. He hiked with me and the Elite Elevation Dad Edge Mastermind to the top of Mount Quandary in Breckenridge Colorado. I also shared the letter I read to him about The Pillars of Manhood when we reached the summit. Today, Mason is here to share his perspective of what it was like to take on such a tough physical and mental challenge, how he felt among a tribe of men, and the life lessons that he will carry into manhood.
