MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- There is an unexpected twist in the death of a South Carolina pastor's wife after the sheriff announced the FBI and U.S. attorney are helping in the Mica Miller investigation. The 30-year-old woman was found dead in April. However, investigators say she called 911 moments before she was found dead at a state park in North Carolina, which was about an hour north of where she lived in Myrtle Beach. Mica's death came just days after she told a police officer "she was scared for her life" after finding a GPS tracker on her car and a razor blade in her tire. She and her husband, John Paul Miller, were also in the process of separating. He was a pastor at a local church but has since been released from his duties. About my guest: Sarah A. I break down key elements of the letter that I feel either expose narcissistic traits that we might also find in others or that stem into other areas of malignant narcissism or emotional manipulation. *Please note I am not a mental health professional nor am I attempting to diagnose someone, I am only pointing out things that I have learned throughout my years fo dealing with this type of emotional manipulation firsthand. It should be noted that people who suffer from narcissistic personality disorder rarely seek treatment. This is due to their perception of their self-image as they see themselves as special, unique, and above standard. Their fragile ego is unable to accept any flaws or imperfections and thus inflates their own self-image to improve their own self-esteem. Moreover, they project their imperfections on others and blame others for everything that goes wrong. James Crumbley Declines to Testify in His Involuntary Manslaughter Trial, unlike his wife, Jennifer Crumbley, who was convicted last month. Witness testimony in the trial ended on Wednesday. Mr. Crumbley faces involuntary manslaughter charges for the four students killed by his son, Ethan Crumbley. Testimony concluded Wednesday morning in the trial of James Crumbley, whose son carried out Michigan’s deadliest school shooting more than two years ago and whose wife was convicted last month in the same courtroom for failing to prevent the rampage. Prosecutors took the rare step of seeking to hold the Crumbleys partially responsible for the shooting at Oxford High School on Nov. 30, 2021, in which their son, Ethan, who was 15 at the time, killed four people and injured seven others. “That nightmare was preventable, and it was foreseeable,” Marc Keast, an Oakland County prosecutor, said in an opening statement last week. He accused Mr. Crumbley of failing to secure the gun that his son used in the shooting. Mr. Crumbley has been jailed since December 2021, when he and his wife, Jennifer Crumbley, were each charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter. They requested separate trials, and unlike his wife, Mr. Crumbley chose not to testify in his own defense. Gutierrez-Reed entered a written plea of not guilty on Aug. 9, 2023. "Ms. Gutierrez has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is preparing for her day in court," her attorney Bowles said in a statement to PEOPLE at that time. Still, that process is on hold as his attorneys – led by Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin – seek a new trial based on the alleged jury tampering. An evidentiary hearing into these allegations is set to commence on Monday (January 29, 2024). All of the jurors at South Carolina’s ‘Trial of the Century’ have been summoned to testify at that proceeding, but the former foreperson – rumored to be a longtime friend of former Colleton County clerk of court Becky Hill – was unavailable to attend on that date due to what the court described as a previously scheduled “bible study” vacation. Convicted killer Alex Murdaugh was back in court on Tuesday, January 16th, appearing in front of a new judge as he argues his case for a new trial. Retired South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal will preside over Tuesday’s status conference at the Richland County Courthouse. Tuesday’s status hearing could determine who will take the stand later this month when Toal hears arguments that Murdaugh deserves a new trial. Murdaugh was convicted for the June 2021 murders of his wife, Maggie, and their son, Paul, at the family’s hunting property in rural Colleton County. Murdaugh’s defense team filed a motion for a new trial alleging jury tampering on the part of Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill. Murdaugh’s defense team filed a brief on Jan. 12 listing potential witnesses they could call. Those names included several jurors, state prosecutor Creighton Waters, and Judge Clifton Newman. “The state must call Ms. Hill to deny the allegations that she tampered with the jury,” the brief states, adding that depending on her testimony, Murdaugh’s team might call additional witnesses as rebuttal witnesses. Hill’s son, Jeffrey Hill, the former IT director for the Colleton County Courthouse, was also listed as a potential witness. The shooting came at a period of heightened public support for gun control that followed mass shootings in Paradise, Nevada, and in Sutherland Springs, Texas, in October and November 2017. Students at Parkland founded Never Again MSD, an advocacy group that lobbies for gun control.
