Fittest at 40 Series: The Art of Mastering Restorative Sleep!Welcome back! Another Foundational Topic to consider while optimizing your day-to-day!!Today we’re talking about possibly YOUR favorite topic, but not for my kids, and that’s SLEEP!! :)Now we’ve discussed this before on the flagship episodes, but now we’re looking to hone-in on this topic while focusing on age as well. Why this topic? Soooo as we always will ask….WHHHYYYY is this topic important to talk about?!??First! As we will discuss more, sleep can dictate EVERYTHING regarding your day-to-day!If you sleep well, you feel refreshed, energized, ready to take on the day from the start! Without sleep, you’re groggy, irritated, NOT sharp, NOT motivated, you often will have the feeling of defeat, etc…it’s not a good feeling!!…and this generally doesn’t get EASIER as you age! In this "Fittest at 40 Series" episode, we discuss a critical yet often overlooked aspect of wellness: Restorative Sleep. This episode emphasizes the increasing importance of quality sleep as one ages, exploring how it impacts everything from cognitive function and emotional well-being to overall health maintenance.Ryan also discusses the multifaceted challenges of achieving restful sleep in later years, touching on factors like hormonal changes, health conditions, and lifestyle shifts. We’ll also discuss practical advice on enhancing sleep quality, including regular exercise, minimizing distractions, and establishing a calming bedtime routine. If you’re looking to optimize your sleep as you age, this episode is for you! E

Cannabis and Fear!Welcome back! Rate, subscribe, and please tell us what you like and don’t like!Happy Halloween! I Llloooooove this time of year!!So we decided to talk about a Halloween related topic…FEAR!! Why are we talking about fear?It affects so many of us!!! Depending on how you handle your fear, it can help or hurt you. Fear, in appropriate circumstances, is a natural and protective response. However, when fear responses are disproportionate to the danger, persistent, or interfere with daily life, they can become problematic, often manifesting as anxiety disorders, phobias, or PTSD.….IT’S ALSO HALLOWEEN!!Discussing fear is important for several reasons:1. Mental Health: Understanding fear helps in addressing various mental health issues. -Recognizing when fear becomes paralyzing or chronic can be the first step toward seeking help and finding coping strategies.2. Social and Cultural Understanding: Fears can be collective and influence social or cultural groups broadly, affecting behavior, decision-making, and relationships on larger scales. Conversations around this will be helpful for the broader good!!3. Personal Growth: On an individual level, confronting and understanding one’s fears can be a pathway to personal development, fostering qualities like resilience, empathy, and courage. Ep 231FlowerPower: Fittest at 40!!

E

FlowerPower: Fittest at 40!!Welcome to the new spin-off inaugural episode!!Goal! This show will be a bit different than the regular show…this will about a journey! Why am I doing this? What’s my goal?My goal is to be as fit as I’ve ever been in my life by the age of 40 years old, with the support of cannabis.Measurable-s? My actions and routines…along with general strength measurables (endurance timing, strength gains, weights/bmi changes, etc). Why?First and foremost, to prove to myself I can do this.I want to leave something for my kids…documentation of more positive influence I’ve left in the world…energy, and good vibes that I’m tossing out there. There is no action that is too small…they all count!I Progressively have been fitter every 10 years…and I want to see how long I can keep that up.-I’m curious! :) I also believe that if as a society we take time to focus on holistic health, we will thrive as a community and that positive energy has a ripple effect. There’s buzz that “40 is the new 30,” and i want people to believe that they can be their best again mentally, emotionally, physically, etc.I want to show my kids by example that this is possible, and for them to follow suit. How?-This will be a documentation of my journey. The main show will remain as is; but this show will include a lot of solo time along with interviews with others.-I also plan to document more on the website and IG, blogging, so be on the lookout for those. Topics to discuss? Quit a few!NutritionExerciseMental healthSleepSupplements/alternative therapyEnvironmental healthAging …sustainable aging!Relationships and social supportMindBody connectionSelf-care and stress management Overall feelings and closing statements on the start of this showSuper excited!! Pushing through boundaries and progressing is what life is aboutI’m doing this in real-time…so feel free to jump on board with me along this journeyCannabis will be a supporting actor, but not the main character…those will be the actions! Why? Because this is how cannabis, in my opinion, is best utilized to optimize life…not when your getting blazed 24/7 beyond any actionable capability…but when you’re using cannabis as a supporting actor to assist you with progressing your life forward.I’ve experienced this personally, so now I want to share more of that with you. Look out for the first episode drop (same RSS Feed here, you don’t need to go anywhere)….and also as always…Lmk what you think!!! This topic is both fun AND important to imo. What does it mean to “wake and bake” in cannabis? The term "wake and bake" refers to the practice of consuming cannabis first thing in the morning. This can be done by smoking, vaping, eating, or drinking cannabis products. Some people choose to wake and bake because it helps them to start their day off on a positive note…they find that it helps them to focus, be more creative, and/or manage chronic pain. Why are we talking about this today? As are most of these topics, this one is personal for me!FIRST AND FOREMOST…STARTING YOUR DAY RIGHT IS UBER IMPORTANT!!Health and Safety: let’s make sure we practice this safely, so we don’t make a worse name for the event….you know? De-stigmatization and Education: Let’s talk about this so we can share the good news of wake n bakes, and destigmatize it!Responsible Use and Understanding: responsible, conscious use is key here…and if you don’t get that right routinely, then that’s when you become a stoner… References:https://leafwell.com/blog/wake-and-bake/Info:Cannabis Connoisseur Podcast Info:Follow us @ThecannabisC on instagramE-mail us at: [email protected]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BRwpUrBgQM&t=5s“Disclaimer: The content provided in this podcast is for informational purposes only and should Not be considered medical advice. Ep 225Cannabis and Topical Creams: A Refresh!

E

Cannabis and Topical CreamsWelcome back! Rate, subscribe, tell us what you like or don’t like! Why is this topic important?-I think for several reasons! -A) We’ve talked about creams but have never dedicated a show to it -B) There are sooooo many applications for it -C) No psychoactive properties, so this is great for grandma! -D) Harmless introduction for a newbie to cannabis! -E) All Natural and very effective alternative -F) -Pain is a big driver that brings people to opioid addiction or harsher drugs to treat that pain. So let’s get into it!What are topicals?-Topicals are cannabis-infused balms, lotions, sprays, and oils that are absorbed through the skin for localized pain relief…different that vaping or taking a tincture/tablet, which will target all areas of the body. -We’re seeing that Cannabis creams can help with pain, discomfort, and inflammation. -Sometimes when we get this relief, we get it from Opioids, which can cause unwanted side effects such as nausea, constipation, addiction, and then we’re talking about cannabis use for a whole other ailment to treat!-You can often find strain specific topicals as well with both the terpenes and cannabinoids, sometimes other herbals are thrown in there as well. How do they work?-You have receptors all over your skin, so they will bind to the CB1/2 receptors to provide localized relief…they don’t enter the blood stream, so their effects will remain where you put them, and thus also won’t travel up to your brain to give you that nice little buzz!-Transdermal Patches- These actually DO reach your bloodstream and can cause psychoactivity-Since CBD won’t spark addiction, this may be something we need to consider instead of possibly vicadin next time you have an intense back pain or something? What ailments can I treat with topicals?-muscle soreness, tension, inflammation, psoriasis, dermatitis, itching, headaches, and cramping.-A THC-rich rub infused with cooling menthol and peppermint is a perfect way to wind down from a brutal workout or hike. We’ve talked about this a few times already…but why do we continue to talk about it?Why is this topic important?I ALWAYS NEED A REFRESH ON THIS!Cannabis always feels better when you’re doing less…I.e.- more effective!!People may give up on cannabis, when all they need to do is stop or slow down for a bit!As we’ll discuss, you don’t need to completely slow down!Cannabis tolerance is important because it can affect how much cannabis you need to consume to achieve the desired effects. If you have a high tolerance, you may need to consume more cannabis to get the same effects as someone with a lower tolerance. This can be costly and can also increase the risk of side effects. To save money. If you have a high tolerance, you will need to spend more money on cannabis to achieve the desired effects. To improve the overall experience of using cannabis. When you have a low tolerance, you are more likely to experience the positive effects of cannabis, such as relaxation, creativity, and euphoria.Reduce side effects with less cannabis!Spread the word on tolerance!Tune in for more…. Cannabis and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)Welcome back! Rate, subscribe, tell us what you like or what you want to see less of…thanks again!Today we’re talking about a common form of anxiety that many of us have heard called “OCD” or obsessive compulsive disorder. Why are we talking about this? Why is it important? A few reasons!First, OCD is a very common disorder. Second, OCD can be very difficult to live with. Third, there is a lot of stigma associated with OCD. Finally, there is a lack of awareness about OCD. So let’s help with some of that today, shall we?!We need to talk more about OCD so that we can raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with it. We also need to make sure that people with OCD have access to the treatment they need (i.e.- Cannabis?!). By simply talking more about OCD and having this discussion, we can help to improve the lives of millions of people.Sources:1. Ep 206Lighting Up Independence: The Fourth of July and Cannabis!

Lighting Up Independence: The Fourth of July and Cannabis!Welcome to another episode! Today we delve into the intriguing relationship between cannabis and the Fourth of July. This is one of my favorite days all year long. It’s summer time! We’re off from work/school and so are your friends and family.“The increasing popularity of cannabis on the Fourth of July can be attributed to several factors."Firstly, the relaxing nature of cannabis offers a perfect complement to this holiday. Many individuals seek to unwind and enjoy their day off, and cannabis provides a means to achieve that relaxation and enhance the overall experience.Additionally, the cultural shift towards acceptance of cannabis has played a significant role. "With the decriminalization and legalization efforts taking hold in various states, the stigma surrounding cannabis has diminished, allowing more individuals to openly embrace this plant as part of their holiday festivities.“ Info:Cannabis Connoisseur Podcast Info:Follow us @ThecannabisC on instagramE-mail us at: [email protected]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BRwpUrBgQM&t=5s “Disclaimer: The content provided in this podcast is for informational purposes only and should Not be considered medical advice. For me, I think it’s the risk of looking elsewhere for your medicine…for something “stronger@ when you don’t need that…especially when you can just take a day or two, reset, and get efficacy from your cannabis again. So tune in as we talk about tolerance, what it is, why it happens, and how you can keep your cannabis Always feeling good!References:"Cannabis Tolerance: What It Is and How to Manage It" by Leafly (2019) - https://www.leafly.com/learn/cannabis-tolerance"Cannabis Tolerance: Everything You Need to Know" by Verywell Mind (2021) -https://www.leafly.com/learn/cannabis-tolerance"Marijuana Tolerance: A Comprehensive Review of the Phenomenon" by Gorelick et al. Ep 192Cannabis and Jet Lag: 10 Ways Cannabis Can Assist!

E

Welcome back! We have a familiar episode for you all! Not too heavy, and maybe a bit of fun as well!Jack and I have been traveling recently, it’s spring break season, so we’re going to talk about that pesky ailment you may get when you’re zipping around the world in and out of different times zones…To begin, let’s ask the big question: What is Jet Lag and How Does It Occur?Answer? Jet lag is a temporary sleep disorder that occurs when a person travels across multiple time zones, causing a disruption in their internal clock, or circadian rhythm.Circadian Rhythm- The circadian rhythm is a 24-hour internal clock that regulates various physiological processes, including the sleep-wake cycle. When a person travels through different time zones, the body's internal clock becomes misaligned with the destination's local time, resulting in a range of symptoms. This disruption in the circadian rhythm can lead to symptoms such as insomnia, fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and gastrointestinal issues.
