Most importantly, pick an idea that you'll work on for 10 years, and just commit 10 years and finding the thing to commit to is almost the more hard part about it. Especially right now I think the one thing to think about in business is what are you certain of not what are you uncertain of, and make a list of all the certainties and then execute against that? Chris Hey guys, we get the fortunate opportunity to hop on the mic and do a Q and A session with Noah Kagan. Noah is the founder of AppSumo, a $30 million a year business. also the founder and owner of Noah Kagan Presents, a very popular podcast on entrepreneurship as well as the founder of Ok Dork, KingSumo and Send Fox. Noah was the 30th employee at Facebook and number four at Mint.com. He has quite an amazing resume. And just a genius when it comes to spouting out business ideas. You guys will notice this on the podcast. Noah is very creative, but he's also very thoughtful on not only how he can be a better entrepreneur, but how he can engage with other people and be a better person himself. So what we do on this show you guys we have two other friends Freddy Lansky, who organized this podcast and Itamar Marini, my partner and friend as well. And we go through some chat back and forth about asking Noah different types of questions around entrepreneurship, what's going on in the world today with the crisis that we're going through, and then we bring in one guest entrepreneur to ask some questions and then we have a q&a going. And Noah answered some q&a from the Facebook Live that we did with this podcast as well. So it's a fun session, more informal, a lot of back and forth banter, a lot of rabbit holes and tangents we go often but really enjoyable and I think it's an episode you guys will get a lot out of. First before we hop into the episode we want to tell you about our sponsors NomadX. Noah Oh, there it is. All right. We're about to get it on. Yeah, man. I'm stoked. All right. I'm grabbing my brisket. Once I get my brisket, it's Game on. Chris Are you eating pork again? No shame on you Noah No. Well there's two things. I was just gonna say one you got to eat otherwise you can be hungry but two, we don't in our lives include enough recharge time. Yeah. And so I've been really working on not this moment, but I was gonna have more things after this and I'm like, Fuck that. Yeah, I think we think our phones need to recharge, but we don't need to recharge. Chris I hear you man. I always like to make it equivalent to a bow and an arrow. You know, like you've got to have that recharge that pullback time in order to shoot the arrow so it can go fast. And we don't do that. We don't pull our bows back enough. Noah Dude, I've literally one thing that happened to me recently with this whole Coronavirus thing which I love. It's my favorite holiday. Noah I really do. Yeah, well regarding the recharging. I fucking forgot where the fuck I was going with it. But it was a really good point. You know, come back to me about this reach. O
Ep.453 ~ Lessons From Running a Digital Business in the 2008 Recession & How to Apply Those in the Current Crisis ~ Russ Perry
Russ Perry ~ Founder of Design Pickle ~ Current Series ~ Entrepreneurs Surviving & Navigating the Corona Crisis We're hopping into the podcast today with a friend and former guest of the show, Russ Perry. Russ is the founder of Design Pickle, and I actually had him on the show about two and a half years ago nearly 200 episodes ago. At the time, we chatted a lot about his company Design Pickle which was then just three years old, and they were doing half a million dollars a month with 125 employees. In that episode, Russ shared some really good insight and philosophy as an entrepreneur, how to build a business that serves the founder, as much as it serves the customers and clients, and the team as well. Now, fast forward two and a half years later, Russ’ businesses are five years old, and they do $14 million in annual revenue, with a team of nearly 500 people also applying those same philosophies that he was two years ago. Here's the reason I brought Russ back onto the show, Russ was a digital entrepreneur running a creative agency back in 2008 during the recession. He was in Phoenix, Arizona, which was like the impact zone for the ‘08 Housing Crisis and Cash Crunch back then. Russ survived as an entrepreneur, his business continued to flourish throughout that time, and he has some really good tips about the failures, lessons, and the hard times that he had surviving through that recession as an entrepreneur. We chat about the lessons that he took away from 2008. We discuss when he saw the global pandemic hit, and changes that are happening, what were the immediate things that he implemented within the company and within his team. 02:00: Who is Russ Perry? 15:51: How Russ's Business Survived the '08-'09 Cash Crunch 22:32: Managing Your Stress During a Crisis 32:49: How to Build an Anti-Fragile Business 37:49: Action Steps Prompted by Covid-19 48:16: Russ’s 6-Month Predictions 53:46: The Importance of Building a Solid Team 56:28: FreshStock 58:38: Final Thoughts 01:00:00: Where to Find Russ Perry Contact Info: Design Pickle: https://designpickle.com/ Social Media: Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/russkperry Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/russperry/ Website: https://www.thebusinessmethod.com/russperry Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-business-method-podcast/id1069958541?mt=2 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVidXNpbmVzc21ldGhvZC5wb2RiZWFuLmNvbS9mZWVkLnhtbA%3D%3D Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2q8Q9t78sCL6kNkWlnV1Po

Ep.433 ~ Making The Four Hour Work Week a Reality ~ John Crestani
EJohn Crestani~ Internationally Renowned Expert in Affiliate Marketing ~ Current Series ~ 100 Interviews with 100 Major Influencers I love it when people hop on the podcast ready to make a great show, with a contagiously stoked attitude and a lot to share. They really make an impact, and I will literally talk about these episodes with my friends non-stop. Quite often I have know idea what show is going to have such an impact on me. I have had some guests that I thought the show would be great, and they were really difficult. Then, I have had other guests, that really surprised me how they showed up on the mic. What is the magic touch when it comes to being a good interviewee? For me it is personality and connection. If someone is truly interested in connecting, having a good time on the podcast and being open, those usually make the best episodes. Sometimes, and we all can tell, the person just shows up to promote their own agenda. I am not knocking it, I know many people do this, and it can be a decent marketing strategy. But the best episodes, the interviews that leave a mark, the ones that I end up naturally promoting and talking about more are the episodes where the interviewee is stoked, ready to be on the show, having a good time and sharing some of the juiciest tips they have. Today's guest is one of those episodes that I will never forget. I’ve seen this guy pop up on my YouTube channel a few times and he stood out to me. So, I reached out to him but didn’t hear anything back. About a year later, someone on his team reached out to us to have him on the podcast. I already knew who he was and instantly accepted the request. His name is John Crestani. John is the perfect example of a ‘Four-Hour Work Week’ case study. He is a lifestyle entrepreneur that started out on an island in Thailand trying to figure out what to do with his life, to creating massive online success in a short period of time. For the past few years, John is running a fully location-independent business pulling in $1,2,3,4+ million USD annually with ZERO employees, and he does it with zest, zeal and a really awesome attitude. As soon as John hopped on the call, he had a big smile on his face and I knew instantly we were going to get along. We talk about a lot today on the show, because even though John has no employees, there are still many facets to his business. We start off talking about John, when he was on the island in Thailand and what he was going through. Like many of us lifestyle entrepreneurs he came across the book ‘The Four-Hour Work Week’ and it really had a massive impact the way he saw the world. He started out selling on eBay, then trying to go back to University and selling digital products to his fellow students, which turned out to be pretty lucrative. It took him a few years to master the online game, but when he did, he started to crush it. We get to delve deep into how he has built a multi 7-figure business with no employees, how he still designs his work life around the hobbies he enjoys, what he would do if he had to start all over again, why he is doubling down on YouTube, and the strategies he is using that is quite different then other people teaching the same thing as him on YouTube, and much, much more. 03:04: Who is John Crestani? 06:57: The Power of Perspective 17:51: Balancing Lifestyle & Entrepreneurship 24:30: The Impact of Reading “The Four Hour Workweek” 26:49: Running a 7-Figure Business With Zero Employees 35:09: John’s Tips on Selling Online Courses 36:59: How To Strategically Position Yourself In A Community 41:42: John’s Favorite Communities & Organizations 44:00: Why Youtube? 53:17: John’s Vision for the Next Decade 1:02:38: John on Managing Influence 1:06:31: John’s Favorites Books & Podcasts 1:14:00: How John Got Featured in Forbes 1:18:32: Where to Find John Crestani Contact Info: johncrestani.com YouTube: bit.ly/crestani_yt John’s Forbes Article the Went Viral

Today, we are bringing you the top 20 productivity hacks for 2020. These are tried and true productivity hacks I wanted to hop on to the mic and share with you some of the top productivity hacks that we have come across in the past year or so, things that I've implemented myself, things that we tell our clients to use, things that have really helped people become more productive and lead a better lifestyle. And so we're going to go through them. A lot of them involve neuroscience and and flow states, which is the newest research that's out there when it comes to productivity and high performance. And so we're going to talk about those today and here they are in no particular order. Plus, we'll talk about some bonuses and some of the top apps that I recommend these days. The very first hack and the one that I have used and it's probably one of the juiciest most powerful ones. I'm going to give it to you right now…..drum roll. It is turning off your phone and hiding it. The University of Texas did this study you guys, and they found out that your cognitive ability declines somewhere, to the point of 10 IQ points, around 10 IQ points when your phone is on and it is around you. Even if it's in a bag, where you cannot see it. And so what I have done is, I turn that sucker off. And I hide it from myself! I put it in another room, I put it in a drawer across the room so it is not around. And another thing that I've done is kept my phone at home for social engagements. So if I go out to eat with friends, you know, whatever, go out dancing, my phone stays at home. I’ve got 6000 pictures on my phone, I don't need anymore. I don't need the extra two that I'm going to get, you know, tonight or some more selfies. But, what happens especially when you go out with friends, you kind of feel like you're on. You have a little superpower, you're out in the world without this codependency that we have with our phones and you feel a bit stronger. It's really strange, and then when it comes to working when you don't have your phone around you, especially in the morning, or the first thing you do when you do deep focused work, like it is really, really refreshing not to have that phone around. One time, I measured how many times I checked my phone in a day over a period of like two weeks, and it's on average about 10 times per hour. That is 160 times per day more or less during our waking hours, that we're checking our phone. We're thinking about checking our phone and this actually reduces our cognitive ability to input, to focus and to get shit done. So that is our very first productivity hack for 2020. Turn off your phone and hide it from yourself. I'm sure it's been years since many of you have turned off your phone, actually hit the power button and turned it off. The second productivity hack of 2020 is to turn your phone on black and white mode. This is also a really good one. If you turn your phone on black and white mode, it decreases the attractiveness, so like Facebook and YouTube, and all the apps, all the major apps out there know exactly what they're doing when they're using the colors to hook your mind into their news feeds. And so if you don't have those colors around, just imagine it's like watching TV in black and white. It's not even fun, it's not even attractive and then you realize okay, I'm just here because these are my habits, I'm just trying to scroll through things, because they're my habits and when it's in black and white it's not as fun it's not as engaging. You're not getting the neurochemical hits in your brain as often, and it loses its attraction and so it's easy to say okay, I'm putting this thing up. I'm going to go on and do some work or spend time with family or do something that really helps me live a better life. And so, turn your phone on black and white mode. I can walk you through the process but it's probably going to be much easier if you just asked Google. I know the iOS process for Apple, you go to General Settings, Accessibility, and then Color Filters and then you can turn it of

Ep.429 ~ World’s #1 Big Wave Surfer & Surf Innovator ~ Laird Hamilton
ELaird Hamilton ~ World’s #1 Big Wave Surfer & Surf Innovator ~ Current Series ~ 100 Interviews with 100 Major Influencers Our guest today is someone that I have followed since I first heard about him when I was 25 years old. Somewhere I came across this cool hour long surf video and I used to watch 2-3 times a week as a sort of meditation/visualization process picturing myself living somewhere where I could surf on a regular basis, and enjoy the beach lifestyle. One day, I was looking up more cool surf videos on YouTube and came across a video of this guy that would surf the biggest and most difficult waves anyone could surf. And I remember him saying in one of his videos on how he said he felt called to the waves, how the waves just called him in, and this really stuck out for me because many times I had felt called to climb mountains, travel the world, go on adventures and I didn’t really know where it came from, because the things that I was doing were semi crazy compared to everyone else I knew at the time. but that I had this intuitive feeling of being called to things also. During one of his videos he said this quote that struck me to my core. It was, “Do not be afraid of death, be afraid of a half lived life.” This really resonated with me, it spoke to me and I thought to myself….I like this guy. Since that moment I have followed him and watched multiple documentaries about the accomplishments he has taken on and how he lives his life. He is one of the two biggest names in surfing, and has become the Michael Jordan of big wave surfing and his name is Laird Hamilton. I will be honest, I was nervous as hell before the interview. I think that is expected when anyone meets their role model/superhero for the first time. But after a couple minutes, it really felt like I was speaking to an uncle that I had known for years. Laird was really down to earth, a good conversationalist and just fun to hang out with for the time we had together. We got nearly an hour and a half to chat on this interview and we talked about so much during that time, but what I really wanted to get out of the conversation is Lairds mentality, how he sees the world, and why he chooses to live his life the way he does. I think I did a pretty good job of that, while both of us having a really good time during the interview. We touch on everything from competition surfing, handling opposing views, near death experiences, inner-callings and being connected with one's higher-self, his passion for innovation, living a healthy and high-performance lifestyle and of course keeping his home balance and family routine. We dive into breath work, Laird’s current recommended books, flow-states, reducing stress goal setting, daily rituals, the type of people Laird surrounds himself with, riding Teahupoo, where he conquered the impossible wave to ride that really put him at the top of big wave surfing and we find out if Laird still fears a half lived life. Ladies and gentlemen, I am so excited to bring this show to you….Laird Hamilton 05:25: Who is Laird Hamilton? 09:40: How Does Laird See Himself? 15:15: Laird on Competition Surfing 16:40: Handling Opposing Views 18:38: Laird on Near Death Experiences & the Impact on His Life 22:45: What is Laird’s Internal Inner Drive? 25:50: Staying Connected to One's Higher-Self 28:30: Laird’s Biggest Fear 33:30: Laird's Biggest Passion Currently 34:50: How Laird Keeps His Home Balance 36:30: Laird on Breathwork 41:55: Laird’s Recommended Reads 45:00: Laird on Influence 55:40: Laird Defines the Spiritual Side of Himself 57:55: Riding the Impossible Wave 1:03:40: Flow-States 1:08:50: Basic Ways to Reduce Stress & Get Into Flow-State 1:11:15: Laird's Daily Rituals & Time Tested Rituals 1:20:20: The Types of Men Laird Surrounds Himself With Contact Info: Laird’s XPT Life App: https://www.xptlife.com/ Laird’s Apparel: https://lairdapparel.com/ Laird Superfood: https://lairdsuperfood.com/ Website: http://www.lairdhamilton.com/ Instagram: @lairdhamiltonsurf/ Facebook: @LairdLife Twitter: @LairdLife
Ep.428 ~ Understanding Men & Making it a Successful Business ~ Alison Armstrong
EAlison Armstrong ~ Understanding Men ~ Current Series ~ 100 Interviews with 100 Major Influencers Hello listeners, welcome to the show today. I want to welcome you back to the podcast and introduce another very special guest. Alison Armstrong is our guest today, I actually heard her first speak over six years ago and I was blown away by the content about men and women, and then I started just engulfing myself into her material. I can be a testament that what she teaches changes people's lives because it has been one of the most impactful subjects that I have studied throughout my life and my personal growth process. Alison and what she teaches has absolutely revolutionized the way that I see the world. Alison’s exploration into understanding the differences between men and women started way back in 1991. She just was curious about why men operated the way that we do, and she wanted to understand the differences between the sexes. She's been studying men for nearly 30 years now, and she has this type of understanding about the sexes, that when men see her speak they actually start to cry, and they do that because they feel more understood than they ever had in their entire lives. What she does is she distinguishes human instincts that compel both men and women to behave in ways that contradict and undermine our own purposes goals and values and needs and relationships. I think there's a few key important things that we don't study in school that are incredibly important. One of those is of course money. The other one is effective communication, and the other one is understanding relationships. These are three things that are essential for people to live a healthy well balanced life. So, I recommend anybody to check out. I've made it actually one of my goals to make Allison and her material one of my major studies for the next year. I usually have a few major goals in a year and Allison is in her materials, one of the most important things my priorities for 2020. Throughout the interview, we talk about how she built this passion into an amazing location independent business, starting way back in the 90s. We talk about essential differences between the sexes, why men are operate the way that we do and argument resolution for couples. I don't think there's anybody that could listen to this show and not get an incredible amount of value out of it this podcast interview! 06:01: Starting a Location Independent Business on Accident in 1995 07:40: Who is Alison Armstrong and Why is She On Our Podcast? 14:55: Tips on How the Sexes Can Listen To Each Other Better 29:49: The Five Layers of Protection Men Have About Criticism 41:15: Argument Resolution for Couples 52:10: Turning Alison’s Mission of Understanding Men Into a Business Contact Info: https://www.understandmen.com/

EJohn Hall~ Founder Influencer & Co ~ Current Series ~ 100 Interviews with 100 Major Influencers As we dive down this rabbit hole of influence we have noticed there's a couple different types of influencers that are out there. There is the influencer that everybody knows. This influencer is the one that everybody sees. The influencer that has a massive public image, you see them all over Instagram, Twitter, the media, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. These influencers are what you could call Spotlight Influencers. Then you have another type of influencer that isn’t so much in the spotlight. This influencer is a more of an underground influencer. These are people that have significant influence but decide to stay under the radar just a little bit. They still have their personal brands, they still get into media sources, but they are not the typical faces you might see when you think of ‘influencers’. Today’s guest is a master at the second type of influence. John Hall has been called by Inc. magazine as “one of the most powerful people in media that you have never met!” He is Ernest and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016, he has been recognized as one of Business Journal’s Top 100 Visionaries. The company he co-founded was ranked #239 on the Inc. 500 and #72 on the Forbes list of the most promising companies in America. There's an art and science to this type of influence and on the show today John shares with us some of his best secrets to maintaining this influence. We talk with John about how he developed the company Influence & Co, how it became the largest creator and distributor of expert content for major media outlets. We talk with John about building influence with his clients and some of the key takeaways that he learned from seven years of helping other businesses gain influence. John has some core values as an influencer, and it really boils down to simple things such as personal relationships, how he gauges every single personal acquaintance, and how he decides whether he's going to continue that personal relationship or let it go. Towards the end of the show we chat about two of his really awesome articles that I enjoyed reading, Perception of Influence vs. Actual Influence and how you can use both of those to grow your brand, as well as 7 Tips for Seeking Out and Seducing the Best Influencers to Love Your Brand.. 02:43: Who is John Hall? 10:38: John on His Entrepreneurial Journey 13:30: John on Influence 15:41: John on Managing Your Ego 17:29: The Story Behind Influence & Co. 19:41: How John Obtained the Calendar.com Domain 22:18: John on How To Maintain Relationships 27:18: The Mission of Calendar.com 34:46: John on How He Uses His Influence to Grow Calendar.com 37:51: How To Get Started Pitching Your Writing To Major Platforms 40:56: Perception of Influence vs. Actual Influence 45:25: How To Identify Fake Influencers 48:09: John’s Favorite Influencers 53:05: How To Keep A Low Profile As An Influencer 57:05: John on Choosing Influence Over Money 01:01:50: John’s Favorite Conferences 01:03:27: A Sneak Peek into John's Book, "Top of Mind" 01:05:21: John on The Future of Influencer Marketing Contact Info: http://www.johnhallspeaking.com/ https://marketinginsidergroup.com/strategy/12-keynote-sales-speakers-you-shouldnt-miss/ https://twitter.com/InfluenceandCo https://twitter.com/johnhall https://www.influenceandco.com/ https://www.inc.com/author/john-hall?cid=landermore John on Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnhall/#28a7d6253845 Perception of Influence vs. Actual Influence: https://www.inc.com/john-hall/the-perception-of-influence-vs-actual-influence.html 7 Tips for Seeking Out and Seducing the Best Influencers for Your Brand https://www.inc.com/john-hall/7-tips-for-seeking-out-and-seducing-the-best-influencers-to-love-your-brand.html Calender.com: https://www.calendar.com/
