Here is a peek into my recent class where we explored the science around neuroplasticity. This was our introduction to what kind of topics we would be covering. Keep an eye out for more clips from this class to come. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS brain, omega, class, eye, talk, important, oxygenation, dry, supplement, DHA, people, eating animal products, dehydration, health, inflammation, body, fast, science, astigmatism, today Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. So I’d like to welcome you to this particular subject. It’s one of my most exciting and dynamic areas of expertise. And so today, what we’re going to do is we’re going to explore some of the science around neuroplasticity. And this is, you know, readily available on the internet. But what’s unique about this class is that I both have done the research, and I’m a practitioner. So the way I describe that is I’m in the dirt, meaning that at this point, I’ve helped 1000s of people with pretty severe eye problems, brain issues, trauma, neurological imbalances, autoimmune issues. And so if you’ve been diagnosed with any of these conditions, and I list these because these were all the conditions that people wrote in about dry eye, and let me go back here dry eye, cornea issues UV itis, which is an inflammation in the eye. Cataracts, we just got done with our cataract course, floaters retinal wrinkles, tears, generations in the retina retinopathy, this myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism traumatic brain injury, and there are some people taking the class that doesn’t have eye problems, but they’re interested in improving their brain health, you know, with the uptake of things like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, people are very interested in how to improve their brain health or just overall neurological functioning. There are some people in the class that are interested in bodywork, somatic, body-centered health, and based on, the mat and the blanket that I showed you. In the introduction video, we’re going to be doing some somatically based movement and other things, I’ll get to that. Some people are just curious about how to improve their performance and vitality. So wherever you are in the process, because people wrote me and said, Well, is this the right class? For me, I want to assure you that yes, this is the right class. And this is a very unique class, in that you’re going to get both science and practice. Alright, so let’s talk about the brain for a minute, because there’s so much out there in terms of research, and you know, new technologies. But just some fast facts about the brain. The typical brain comprises about 2% of the body’s total weight but uses 20% of the total energy and oxygen intake. And that’s really important to know about the oxygenation because we talk about that with the eyes that the reason why we develop a lot of eye problems is that we aren’t getting the mitochondria function which produces the energy, and we’re getting starvation of oxygenation in the eye tissue. The same goes for the brain. Another fast fact that most people don’t know about the brain is that it is actually 73% water, you know, as infants are over 90% water and as we age, we begin to dry out We dehydrate. And this particular practice today is going to help you learn to rehydrate yourself. Now, it only takes 2% of dehydration. So 70 If we go down 2% of that 73 This begins to affect things like our memory, our cognitive skills, our attention, it’s very interesting how the water element in the brain is so tied into our health. Now for those of you that, exercise, 90 minutes of sweating can temporarily shrink the brain as much as one year of aging. So that’s why it’s very important when you do exercises that you hydrate afterward. I like to hydrate before during and after my exercise, talking more about aerobic exercise. 04:38 Another fast fact about the brain most people don’t know is that the brain weighs about three pounds. 60% of the dry weight is fat, making the brain the fattiest organ in the body. This is why I’m a very strong proponent of making sure you’re getting enough healthy fats and oils in your diet. First of all fats and oils. We do inflammation. But second of all, they’re so important in terms of the brain makeup and I’m talking about omega threes. We’ve got the DHA and the EPA part of omega-three. And in class number two, I’m going to show you

Today I want to share this somatic eye meditation with you. It’s based in the Continuum Movement and allows us to work with the eyes while working with the whole body. When we learn to dissolve, become dissolute, our resolution becomes stronger, our vitality becomes better, our resiliency becomes much more, and this creates more thriving. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS dissolution, breathing, clarity, eyes, continuum, learn, dissolve, movement, resolution, cataract, somatic, exhalation, orient, health, cellular level, trauma, present, eyelids, resolve 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Now we’re going to move to the piece of the resistance, our somatic eye meditation. And I want to talk about this for a minute before we do it. So some of you know and some of you in this class, have heard of something called continuum movement. And I talked about this the other day. And if you don’t know what continuum movement is, and you want to learn about a visionary, innovative, somatic body-centered practice, I would go to the continuum movement comm website, I would Google Emily Conrad, continual movement, I watched some of her YouTube videos. And this eye meditation comes from continuum movement. And what I keep telling everybody is that when we work with the eyes, we’re working with the whole body, and we’re working with the whole body, we’re working with the eyes. And one of the ways to reduce cataracts, to be proactive in your eye health, is to do this practice. Now in the continuum movement. protocol, what we do is we use sound as a way to open up the tissue in and around the eyes. And the eyelids are a major lymphatic, immune system, area, their glands in these islands. This is a place that is highly susceptible to inflammation. And the more inflammation we have the more our eyes are gonna let us down. Okay, so let’s go back. So in this practice, we’re going to do this setup. Two things are going to happen, you’re going to take a baseline of your eyesight, clarity, and your breathing baseline. Why? Well on the eyesight, clarity, we do it at the beginning and we do it at the end, you’re going to see how the clarity improves as you do the practice. And in the breathing baseline, that’s going to tell us how our nervous system is working, shallow breathing, expanded breathing, good inhalation, good exhalation. 03:49 Yeah, we can take breathing to the next level. It’s the birth-death, Earth cycle, inhalation, his birth, exhalation, his death, inhalation, his birth, exhalation, his death. Another thing in our health on the cellular level, our breathing represents our ability to tell us about our resolution, how we resolve and the exhale tells us how we dissolve. And it’s very important what I’m going to say here, this may be something that you’re gonna have to think about for a while. What’s important about being able to go into dissolution being able to go into a dissolved state, because when we go into dissolution, we are letting go We are, we are releasing the structure that we have held. And for most people, we are afraid to go into dissolution. Things Fall Apart, things become chaotic. In quantum mechanics, that is a normal scientific rhythm, where we have chaos. And then we have a resolution. But as the humanoid, we don’t like dissolving, we don’t like to solve. Because it’s the unknown, it’s uncertain what’s going to happen. And yet on a cellular level, and then the respiration. dissolution is about detox. It’s about letting go of the old, it’s about not having to orient towards our history or our story. So instead of orienting towards, I have this condition, I’ve got this diagnosis. My mother beat me when I was a child, you know, that’s, we have that all up on our mantle, you know, you meet somebody, and immediately they go into their trauma. Well, let me tell you about the time my father, bah, bah, bah. So the whole thing is, our orientation is based on our past. And our vision is very tied into are we in the past? Or are we in the present, you know, a cataract is about being caught in the past? That’s what it is. And when we learn to dissolve, become dissolute, our resolution becomes stronger, our vitality becomes better, our resiliency becomes much more, and this creates more thriving. This is why I like you to wear the opposite lens prescription because it forces you into dissolution. Notice when you put the opposite lens prescription on, and yo

Podcast 193: Lecture

We all have so many responsibilities, it can be hard to take time for self-care. It’s super important for your health, including your eye health, to take time and unplug. We are going to talk about some strategies for getting the most out of a self-care day. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS retreat, eye, lens, clarity, prescription, nearsighted, blur, farsighted, busier, create, system, faster, electronics, challenging, practice, vision, closed, cleanse, oxygenation 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. This is called the vision retreat day. And I love this, this is really, really important. I want you to find a day when you can completely unplug from electronics for the entire day. And you’re going to do this eye patch exercise, you might do the opposite lens prescription, I want you to spend time in nature. And I want you to do the somatic eye practice that we’re going to do next. So you’ll see that and I want you to consider doing a cleanse, or a fast during the vision retreat day, when you start doing things like the eye dialogue, wearing the opposite lens prescription, you are detoxing the energy coming out of your eye. Basically, a cataract is toxicity. That’s what it is. And you need to do a cleanse, you need to do a release and reset so that you don’t have to go through this surgical process. And this is what I really like about doing retreats. And you know, not everybody likes this kind of contemplation or this level of responsibility when you’re on your own. Before COVID, every year, I used to do, I used to both take retreats where I would just be a participant. And during the retreat, it would be a seven or eight-day retreat, we would spend three days of that retreat in silence. And usually, the retreats tour in a very nature-based setting, we were the only people there. And it was so amazing to stop talking to stop communicating with electronics. And going into silence is pretty challenging. Because at the very beginning, your mind is going to be going very, very quickly. And probably a lot and what you do with that is you can just write, write it down in the notebook, it’s a way to discharge how busy the mind gets. Like the busier the mind, the more chaotic the mind, the busier and more chaotic the body and the eyes. So mind and eyes are very related. So in doing a retreat, it’s a way for you to start to see some of the influences that maybe are taking you away from your health and wellness. And it’s very difficult today to do self-care. Because when we do self-care, others may perceive it. As we’re being selfish. We’re not thinking about other people. I mean, there’s a variety of things that come up. But what I noticed about people who are healthy is that they are able to take some retreat time so that they can harvest their own energy and replenish and rejuvenate from all this fast-paced living that we’re all doing. 04:48 And I don’t know about you but I think things are going faster today than they were five years ago. And speed is one of the Things that creates compression in the body, the faster we go, the more compressed we become. The more we grip, the more we tighten, tighten up. So this affects our circulation, our oxygenation our immune system, what gives us more inflammation, speed is related to inflammation. So taking a pause, taking a retreat, you know, maybe you live in a family, you’ve got children, you’ve got animals, you’ve got a spouse, maybe you need to get some help to come in so that you can go have a retreat for yourself. I think everybody could benefit from it. You know, you may get some heat from it, you may get some, some resistance from family and friends. But, again, self-care is the way out of this. And the more we practice self-care, we become role models for others, to also practice self-care. And I think that’s a way we’re going to raise the health quotient in our society. Somebody is asking both my eyes are near farsighted, and astigmatic. Could I get a prescription for eye dialogue? Opposite prescription? So there it’s getting kind of complicated. I think what I would say in that is that, let’s say, for example, your right eye is nearsighted. And you’re right is farsighted, just I don’t know. But let’s say there’s a difference going on. Or there’s a near-sighted problem, a distance and a fork farsighted problem near, I would tend to start more with the distance prescription and work with the opposite lens

Podcast 192: Lecture

Let’s talk about blue light. It’s something that we all need to be mindful of during our digital time, especially prolonged or late-night digital time. We will discuss the benefits and harms of blue light and what you can do to protect your eyes. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS light, eye, lens, blue, cataract surgery, yellow tint, clarity, liver, glasses, pupil, filter, orange, cataract, therapy, tanning salon, vision, screen, imbalance, created, notice 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. 00:48 So there’s this big rage out in the marketplace, where you can get yellow and orange-tinted glasses. And they are advertised as blue blockers you were in the day, and blue blockers you were in the evening. Now on my webstore, I’ve put together a number of articles and videos, where I talk about the difference between the tins, and something that I created about five years ago, which is called a filter. And let’s go back here. What when you wear an orange or yellow tint, what happens is, is that the pupil starts to dilate more. So in other words, when you’re looking at your computer screen, and you’ve got an orange or yellow tint, you want to minimize the pupil size. Because the pupil is the gatekeeper that allows light into the eyes and eventually into the body. And so if you’re wearing a darker lens, it’s going to dilate the pupil more, and it defeats the purpose. Now yes, it does block some of the blue light, but some of it is also getting in. And in addition to that, the tint makes it dark enough that you may have difficulty actually seeing print the size of the print. And also, in addition to that, you’re getting an imbalance of light and color into the eyes. Now we’re working with color therapy. So we know that when we look at certain colors, it may set us off. And we look at other colors and go wow, these are really relaxing. Well, you don’t want to induce more imbalances into your eyes by looking through an orange or yellow tint if you don’t have to. So I would say, look for a blue filter, blue-blocking filter. Now I have a great one. If you don’t like mine, there are other companies out there, you can google blue-blocking filter. But the blue light definitely affects the lens of the eye, the macula, and the retina. Blue Light also affects our sleep, our mood, and our vision. I would challenge you that stop working on your screens one hour before you go to bed. And if you’re going to be using screen time, especially after 6 pm does something to protect yourself against the blue light. And here’s my last point. And you are you guys and gals are already attuned to this. But let’s say you decide to do the cataract surgery and you get it done. And the filter that’s in the original lens. All of our original lenses have the capability to block some of the blue light that is completely gone. When you have cataract surgery unless they put the blue blocker in the intraocular lens, which isn’t done as a standard practice you get when you get cataract surgery if you don’t protect yourself from the blue light, it could affect you negatively in say about a year I see this with people who have had cataract surgery, who come back and now they’re dealing with macular degeneration. They’re dealing with Retina problems or dealing with glaucoma. So if you do decide to get cataract surgery, you want to make sure to protect your eyes 05:01 And the blue light sources can be televisions, LED lights, all screens. Now, the sun also put out blue light. And that’s okay, we can get a little bit of blue light, especially during the day. The issue really comes in, when we start just digesting or ingesting blue light after 6 pm. What it does is it fulls, the pineal gland, it tricks the pineal to stop producing the sleep hormone, melatonin. So it starts to affect our sleep. And on top of that, think about staring at your screen is similar to going to a tanning salon. Except in a tanning salon, you’re only going to be in there for maybe five minutes, 10 minutes, but you’re not going to be doing it for seven hours, or five hours or two hours, eventually, you’re going to get burned. And this is what the blue light is doing. It’s a chaotic frequency, especially in the lower range, about 395 to 400 nanometers to about 460 nanometers in that range. That is the most chaotic blue light. Now when you get higher than that’s the blue light is therapeutic. That’s the blue light yo

Podcast 191: Lecture

Today we’re talking about eye nutrients. The lens is an avascular tissue, it relies on nutrient absorption indirectly. So, therefore, we have to make sure that we are getting enough of the proper nutrients and making sure we’re targeting it to the lens of the eye. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS cataract, lens, creates, surgery, emf, eye, clarity, talked, glycation, floaters, doctor, protocols, drug, cortical, intraocular lens, blood sugar imbalances, give, oxidative stress 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. This sentence is important. The lens is an avascular tissue, it relies on nutrient absorption indirectly. So, therefore, we have to make sure that we are getting enough of the proper nutrients and making sure we’re targeting it to the lens of the eye. So when light enters the eye that this is somebody we’re doing color therapy here. Again, here’s the clear lens right here. This is where the floaters are, this is the vitreous gel, this is the optic nerve. If we can get more nutrients into the lens, it’s going to stay clear like it is here. Again, another picture of the lens. This is a clear lens. So by doing the protocols that I’ve laid out, you can start to discharge to release to get rid of the oxidative stress that has created the cataract in the first place. And we’ve talked about the cataract as an opacity. And this Opacity is going to grow into something that creates a hazy cloudy experience based on the location of the lens, where the cataract is the density, the size. And, again, for many of you, you went to a doctor and they diagnose it, but for some of you, sometimes it’s harder to read. Sometimes there’s glare or reduced depth perception. But I want you to know that a cataract is less defined by age and more defined by its size and location as it’s related to poor oxygenation and hydration in the lens itself because the better the mitochondria are working in the lens. Those are the energy producers, they produce the ATP, you have a better chance of getting rid of the oxidative stress that has accumulated. Now, we have talked about that surgery is an option. But you need to be careful. You need to ask the doctor okay in your procedure, am I going to get dry eyes? Is this going to affect my macula give me macular degeneration? How is my retina gonna handle this? Will I get floaters these are all things that you know in a small percentage of cases, people have this situation. Sometimes there’s blurred vision, difficulty reading, especially if you’re doing multi-focal lenses or, or monovision. Another thing to consider is blue light exposure. I’m going to talk a little more about that in a minute. And what I’m saying is if you’re farsighted before the surgery, you want to be farsighted after the surgery. If you’re nearsighted before the surgery, stay nearsighted after the surgery. That’s where the brain confusion comes in. Now, let’s say you do my protocols and things keep getting worse and worse. And they start interfering with your daily activities, then it’s time to consider surgery. So my challenge to you is to do these protocols for three months. And then if you’re not getting improvement, you can start to think about the surgery. 04:53 Be aware of things like smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, blood sugar imbalances, still drug use, we talked about physical trauma, exposure to chemicals. These all play a role in what you eat have an effect on the lens health. Now I’m going to share something else about the EMF. And this is controversial, that if you were a metal frame for glasses, that’s going to conduct an EMF much more than if you were a plastic frame. So if you were a metal frame, consider getting a plastic frame so that you’re not conducting the EMF into your eyes. Again, we’ve talked about the causes of cataracts steroids are a big cause Not only do steroids cause cataracts, but they also can cause glaucoma, which increases your eye pressure. Here are some other drugs and I think you have this handout. Even things like a lot of ibuprofen, if you’re in a situation with inflammation and pain. Consider other things that you can do to, you know, make this happen. So somebody is asking, Do you have an article on the emotional part of seeing. So my suggestion would be to get my book, creating your personal vision, I talk a lot about in that book, the psycho-emotional aspects of vision. Alright, now the mechanism of the lens

I wanted to share this recent study on the eye-brain connection. This recent study from the University of Rochester stated that 50% of what we see is in the brain. So we take time to break that down and understand what it means for holistic eye care. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, brain, microbiome, bacteria, vision, clarity, exercises, ocular, microbiome, part, habits, studying, question, glasses, systemic, mental, physical therapy, muscles, shape, eye exam 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. 00:47 So I’ve talked about the eye-brain connection. And I beat this drum every day. And with this particular statement, there was a study that was done at the University of Rochester, which stated that they did they studied, they’re studying the brain, they were studying the eyes. And their results said that 50% of what we see is in the brain, I would say it’s higher, I would say it’s 90% of what we see is in the brain, and 10% of seeing is in the eye. And the eye exam that you go to, is only exploring that 10%. That’s the sad part about it. There’s so much vision in the brain that is thrown aside, you’re not even evaluating it, because it’s a glasses check, and an eye health check. And that’s it. And so I want you to realize that whatever’s going on in your eyes, there is a systemic, metabolic, and energetic reason why your eyes are letting you down as very little to do with age. So somebody is asking, do cataracts change the shape of the eye? No, they don’t change the shape of the eye. Again, the lens only makes up a very tiny part of the eye. And I’ll put an anatomy shot site slide up in a minute. Now another question is can exercises change the shape of the eye to be more 2020? And the third question is how the exhauster in the eye affects the eyes? So let’s take that question first. There was a blog that I wrote in it’s very good, it’s called Mind Body green. And you can type in Dr. Burn Mind Body green and top type in the ocular microbiome. So the good bacteria, we talked about the microbiome in the gut, that’s the good bacteria and it’s being assaulted. Now, because mineral levels are low in the soil, we’re getting exposed to pesticides, there’s a lot of inflammation in the gut, a lot of times the biome or the microbiome is not optimal. The eyes have their own good bacteria. So when you have any kind of fungal bacteria, viral infection, something like an autoimmune situation like shingles, or herpes zoster is going to wreak havoc on the eyes. And again, you have to look at it from a systemic and metabolic point of view. Because eyedrops by themselves are not really going to boost the ocular microbiome, the things that you can do to help the eyes, but you got to bring the body into it. Now in terms of do exercises change the shape of the eye, yes and no. There are six muscles that attach to the outer part of the eye, that help create the shape of the eye. And if you start doing certain physical therapy exercises, those muscles will start relaxing, and it will start to change the shape of your eye. But I’ve had many, many people who have been very nearsighted or farsighted. And after doing my program, I still measure the same prescription in the eyes. But their visual acuity and ability to read the chart goes back to 2020 Which tells me that most of our seeing is mental and is in the brain. And how we perceive determines what we see. And it’s less about chasing the 2020 and more about understanding the habits and conditioning that affect our eyes. And when you start changing the habits and patterns in the mental realm, it changes how you see things. That’s where the visual system, so much of it is in the brain and not in the eyes. 05:48 Okay, another question from Mark. Does my vision continue to change after cataract surgery, just like it does after getting stronger glasses? So if I get a single focus, iOS, will my vision get worse again? Well, it kind of depends on your ability to sustain and keep your eyes in healthy circulation, oxygenation, maybe doing color therapy, physical therapy exercises. If you do those things, then your eyes are going to stabilize and my experience is that they tend to stabilize more. If you do some extra eye exercises and do a lot of the things that I’m saying. 06:43 Thank you for listening. I hope you learned something from the EyeClarity podcast show today. Podcast 189: Lecture

I wanted to share this portion of a recent lecture I gave with you all. It’s important to really understand how our body functions as a whole, rather than just treating a symptom. This is the case for eye care as well and today we are going to look at how you can bring this holistic care into your eye treatments as well. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS lens, cataract, doctor, eye, vision, clarity, bifocal, eye exam, authority figure, matrix, farsightedness, year, nearsightedness, prescription, blurrier, nauseous, disconcerting, exam, yoga practice 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. 00:46 When we talk about reversing cataracts, it’s more than just reversing cataracts. It’s connecting to the matrix of our healing. So in other words, our bodies are a result of millions and millions and maybe even billions of years of a planetary process of evil evolution. You know, we had to come from somewhere. So we came from the caveman who came from the dinosaur who came from if we go back, the sea animals and before that, so in other words, there’s a lineage here, that’s very species inclusive. And I know this is a big picture when I’m talking about it, but I feel that what’s happened in western medicine is that we have, have lost the recognition that we get to choose our health. And I said this, I think at the first class, is very easy to go to an authority figure who’s got a degree and is telling you shit, he or she is telling you what to do. And you go, you know, this is not really lining up with my philosophy with my lifestyle. And we’re kind of stuck because the information we’re getting, is not matching what we really want or need. And if we can find somebody who can give us that information, then we can take it, and we can plug it into this matrix. This matrix, this makes a matrix of a multi-dimensional being that’s made up of frequency and vibration, and fascia and connective tissue and fluids and, and so much more than this is who we are. We’re very multi-dimensional. So you’ve heard this story many times, you go to the eye doctor, you go for your yearly exam. And your eye doctor says, Well, you’ve got nearsightedness, or you’ve got farsightedness and they prescribe a lens based on the choice you make which has led which lens is clear number one, or number two, and you basically have about five to 10 seconds to make a decision on which lens is going to be yours. And maybe that day, when you went for the exam, you had a fight with your spouse, or maybe one of your children are sick. Or maybe you have a dog or a cat, who you had to take to the vet or maybe you’re just having a bad day. And so we know that these external environmental things affect our vision that if we’re under stress if we’re you know, not all there, our vision is going to be blurrier. So we go in and we’re in this dark room and we choose lens number two, it’s basically a guess. And we get the prescription and we put it on and we go wow, this doesn’t feel right. Something doesn’t feel right. And it may be I’m feeling dizzy, I’m feeling nauseous. You know this is giving me a headache. And you go back to the doctor and you share the story with him and he says Oh, Jane, don’t worry. I did it right. Just get used to it. Get used to this nausea. It’ll go away. So like a good person. You go okay. And you start suppressing your sensations, your feelings, your vision, and you force yourself into this lens. And so then what happens is, you notice about three minutes later that well, three, three minutes later, let’s say, six months later, 05:26 three minutes later, you walk out of the office and go, wow. And you know, what’s really interesting is I have people that spend 1000s of dollars on their glasses, and they bring them to the exam for me. And they got a shopping full of glasses that they’ve spent 1000s and 1000s of dollars, and they can’t wear it. But anyway, let’s say you, you do force yourself into wearing it. And six months later, you go back and he says, Doc, I can’t see out of these, I’m blurry again. And the doctor is in a great situation, because he says, oh, let’s make it stronger. And so you get the stronger lens, maybe now you’re in a bifocal because now you’re losing not only your distance, clarity, but you’re now having difficulty seeing the small print, maybe the print on your phone, and now you’re in a bif

SUMMARY KEYWORDS flower, rose mist, oil, eyes, clarity, meditation, few deep breaths, put, blossom, lotus, visualize, connect, laurel leaf, holistic, episode, rose, lang, essential oils, sunflower Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have with you, the Ylang Ylang essential oil. I’d like you to get it on and get it out. And I’d like you to put a drop or two on your heart area, I just put some on before I came on. If you don’t have the essential oils, that’s okay. And I’m going to guide you in a short meditation. It’s very short. But it’s going to be insightful in well, certain things. So what I’d like you to do right now, whether you have the oil and you can put it on, if you have the rose mist, you could put spray it around your eyes, it doesn’t matter. If you don’t, you’re going to be in the field. What I’d like you to do is close your eyes get comfortable. And I want you to take three deep breaths very slow. 02:12 Okay, you can put the oil on your third eye, you can put it on your heart, you can put it on your throat, wherever you’re called to do it. So if you haven’t put the oil on, go ahead and do it. And then close your eyes. Just focus internally for a minute. And this is what I want you to do. I want you to visualize your favorite flower. We’ve got a lot of flowers out there could be a carnation, it could be a rose, it could be a jasmine blossom. So just whatever the first thing that comes into your brain. And what I want you to do is I want you to just think about that flower. in your mind’s eye. I want you to picture it. I want you to visualize it. And I want you to connect now to your inner flower. The flower inside of you, maybe it’s this flower, maybe it’s not. I want you to take a moment and I want you to connect to your inner flower. How’s that inner flower doing? How is your inner flower these days? And ask your inner flower. What do you need? Do you need more water? You need more attention. Do you need more food? What is it that is lacking in your inner flower, my house the health of your inner flower? And notice how your inner flower feels emotionally. What you’re feeling there, how’s the connection make a commitment to your inner flower that you’re going to give your inner flower a little more attention each day. You’re going to acknowledge your inner flower and then you can slowly again take a few deep breaths you can open your eyes And in the chat if you wouldn’t mind. Can you share maybe what flower you saw? And what’s the state of your inner flower? Okay, so Gilbert saw sunflower, Elizabeth lotus blossom Pad A Plumeria Wow. Lotus, White Rose, Daisy, awesome hydro grass touch. So this is a really nice meditation to do every day. You can see that some of you have not been attending to your inner flower, your inner beauty, your inner love taking care of yourself. So I offer it to you as another tool to help you connect more deeply to yourself, your inner love. And, again, you can use the rose mist that I recommended you can use the lying line you can even use the Laurel leaf. Those are all possible oils that you can put on first, which can amplify and help you connect to your inner flower as a meditation. And I would invite you to ask your inner flower what is it need, what is your flower need to thrive. So I really appreciate that. 07:19 Thank you for listening. Today we are talking about color theory and vibrational healing and how the two work together. I take a few questions about the process and really dig into the benefits of this therapy and how it can work for you. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS vibrational, healing, measure, energy, vibrational medicine, frequency, reiki, clarity, color, therapy, oil, open, body, homeopathy, class, eyes, essential oil, titled, learn Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. For some of you, this is probably a new subject for others, you have some experience. And they’re probably a few of you, that have been involved in the field of vibrational medicine or energy healing for a long time. So there’s a big range. And my advice would be that for you if you are interested, there’s a really good book, that might be a great introduction for you. And the book is titled, power versus force. Has anybody ever heard of it? You can let me know on the chat. This is written by a psychiatrist named David Hawkins. And David Hawkins had a very interesting career he started off in New York City. And he evolved where eventually he moved to Sedona, Arizona, where he developed the center, and he did a lot of teaching. And it was in the area of vibrational healing and vibration, as it related to words to language. And he has a whole system where there’s a chart, and certain words, create a certain vibration. In other words, create a higher vibration. So for example, you can think of the word fear. That is the lower vibrational state. If you think of the word gratitude, this is a higher vibrational state. And through kinesiology that’s measuring the energy of the body with muscle testing, he was able to come up with a whole system of being able to measure all these different words. And for somebody that’s just starting out, you know, he’s a physician, he’s an MD, and he takes you through a journey, where you really start to understand how everything has a certain frequency. And how to measure things. Well, there are a variety of different ways that one can measure, you can use things like dowsing, you can use pendulums. You can use, as I say, muscle testing, or you can use instrumentation, and there’s a variety of different ways to do that. There’s a product out there called a bio well, and it’s similar to the gdb camera that I use for measuring energy. That could be something you could check into. There are things like the rife machine, r i f e, that’s pretty famous. There’s a body of work called radionics. So you could Google radionics and learn about how frequency works. You could take a class, say in Reiki, so that’s a body-centered therapy where you use your hands and you learn how to open up the energy in yourself and others. Maybe someday I’ll teach a class on vibrational healing and energy medicine that that is a possibility. Certainly aromatherapy in herbs. They have a certain frequency signature and 04:59 you can use your pendulum to measure the energy of the essential oil you’re using if you want to, now you will, you will get to a point where instead of having to measure the energy, that you just get an intuitive feeling, I need this oil, I need that oil. But you know all the oils vibrate at least 115 megahertz or higher. You know when you think about oil, like rose oil that’s pretty universal that that is going to help you on so many levels. But I want to caution you about being in an X treats why I’ve got this condition. So I take that’s not the way vibrational healing works. And as you get more into vibrational medicine, you start to realize there’s actually an alchemical process of being able to mix things together and come up with a solution, or a result that surpasses what the problem was. And I’ve been illustrating my own out chemical abilities for a long time. And even though I’m labeled and as an optometrist, dye doctor, whatever, you may start discovering that I do a lot more than just, you know, the eyes. And in alchemy, you can actually change a lot of things that maybe you didn’t know, you could change. I would put color therapy in that category as well. You know, people are asking me, how do I use the color? What do I do? Basically, color therapy is it’s an immersion in introducing your eyes and your brain and your body to frequencies in the visible spectrum that are going to bring you more balance and harmony. And so, you know, one way to do it is the rainbow you know, you start with

This episode is all about essential oils. We’re digging into laurel leaf, saffron. frankincense, carrot seed, and so many more beneficial essential oils. I am so excited to share this information with you. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS essential oil, laurel leaf, eye, saffron, clary sage, talk, frankincense, fennel, medicinal herbs, apollo, inflammation, work, herbal, herbs, phenol, body, rows, rosebud, oil, mist Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. I want to move to Laurel leaf because that’s one of the essential oils that I really spotlighted today. Laurel leaf comes from a shrub or tree the leaves and branches. So tells you it’s Hardy. You know, what’s the, when we have things that come from the branch. You know, there’s the bark involved with it. It’s, you know, one of the arteries, so there’s a circulation component. If you want to go back to Greek history, Laurel leaf was dedicated to Apollo. You know, I happen to go to Greece in November of 2019. I have some colleagues there and I went to the Temple of Apollo and Laura Lee was was was spoken about there and really interesting so I put Laura leaf I did some great videos, video blogs, like some of the pictures on this pre-workshop are from the temples of Apollo and Aesculapius but the essential oil Laura Lee, it is the queen of the lymphatic system. So uplifting sparks your inner vision because it’s Yin, it’s not going to irritate the skin. Okay. Now in one of the applications where I talk about fennel, carrot seeds Frankincense if you gals and guys want to do that, you can add Laurel leaf is number four in that in that now yes in my book I talk about the oil protocol for cataracts Laurel leaf clary sage, Saffron, frankincense and carrot seed. So let’s talk about each of these. I think that’s a great thing. So number one, Laurel leaf is all about length. And when you have a cataract, the water in the lens of the eye is frozen. 02:56 And so you’ve got to get your lymph system working better. And so if you’re going to use Laurel leaf, you need to put it on your body consistently, especially in a major lymph channel. Again, it could be the neck area, it could be under the arms. It could be adding it to your fennel, carrot seed, and frankincense around the eyes. Now number two, clary sage. clary sage is all about and Korean health and it’s not so much better for women or men. Again, because of its adaptogenic properties. It works well for just overall endocrine support adrenals thyroid, okay, pituitary or pineal. So with these oils, you might put the clary sage on another part of your body you might put it on the soles of your feet. The clary sage is if you think there’s a hormonal component, by all means. Now the next one is saffron. saffron is an amazing ingredient circulation-wise. The thing with saffron is it is a hot essential oil. So you have to be very careful if you’re going to put it around the eyes and what I found with saffron when we would do the essential oil around the eye, because of the toxicity of the person, the burning would occur. So you can use saffron essential oils very expensive. I didn’t include it in your program, and many companies won’t carry it. I think that still point aromatics, you may be able to get it through them But what you can do with saffron is cook with it. So you can get ground up saffron. That would be away or you can get it in a capsule form of about 30 milligrams per day. So there are other ways that you can, you can get it. Okay. Now the last one that was mentioned was Cara Tse, actually frankincense and carrot seed, and those are in the protocol for the eye protocol. But here’s the bottom line. And this is the takeaway when you start using a few of the essential oils and notice I just had to get Laura leaf Lang Lang and the hydrosol, which I’ll talk about in a minute. Using those can be enough as a starter if you’ve never used these before. And I said something very interesting, maybe about 10 minutes ago, which is that the more you can be intuitive and listen to your body, what do I need? Where do I need it? That’s the key. That’s the alchemy. for your health. Again, we’re trying to get away from the authority like I’m the doctor, you’re the patient, I’m telling you what to do. Now, in this case, I am a resource. But ultimately, I don’t want or need you to follow what I say, without you tuning into yourself. Well, how does this feel? I know many of

We are continuing our deep dive into essential oils and herbal medicines. We discuss the benefits of Essential Oils and how to use them and how to grow in your essential oil practice. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS essential oils, oils, fennel, frankincense, carrot seed, burning, eyes, tree, laurel leaf, health, clarity, talk, carrier oil, essences, antiviral, smell, hot, put, holistic, improve Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Alright, I want to talk about the word adaptogenic you see it here adaptogen. This means that based on what’s going on in your body, the essential oil is going to bring you a set of balance and harmony based on what you need. And so tonight, you know we’ve got a full group of people, each person is dealing with a different aspect in health and wellness. So when you use the essential oils, it’s going to work individually based on what you need. And with the Laurel leaf, which is one of the oils you have in your that I recommended, it has something in it call it’s hydrophilic which means that what you can do with this Laurel leaf is you can put a couple of drops on the lymphatic area like around the neck, the heart and then take a shower or a bath and the water pushes the essential oil more deeply into your body. So this is a way that you can actually get more or more amplification of the benefits of the essential oil. Now you would only want to do this with certain essential oils because some oils are really hot. And I’m going to talk about how you use those very differently than say the middle-of-the-road essential oils like lavender or Laurel leaf or Frankincense. But there are ways that you can use hot essential oils like coal essential oils so that you don’t burn yourself. A lot of Kima types so I’m going to move on here. There’s a new nutritive value to all the essential oils they have vitamins minerals, you know, for example, we’ve got the tree essences like cedar woods in the furs, very grounding the citruses which are very uplifting. The Eucalyptus is which are helpful for respiratory and immune health. Ginger, which is great for your digestion. So a lot of versatility in these oils. Now I want to say that not all oils are antiviral or antifungal or break the blood-brain barrier. Here is a list of antiviral essences so lemon or lemongrass, the sages rosemary, cinnamon bark, oh my goodness, that’s an amazing, so hot essential oil. But you can put a little bit on your tongue or get a hot mug of water and put a couple of drops of cinnamon bark in the young mountain to save you savory. So there’s a lot of this is a long list of essential oils that are antiviral, if you want to go that direction as a prophylactic to improve your health. Now some of the essential oils are created by the flowers. Some of them are created by the leaves. Some of them are created by the furs, some of them by the peel. So you want to know well where is this essential oil coming from? Because where it comes from, is going to speak to how it’s going to inform you. Let me give you an example. Let’s say we compare the jasmine essential oil with say the for tree and maybe we’re even using like ponderosa pine as an example, that’s a pine tree but we could use you know maybe like a Tamarack or something in the tree family spruce. There’s a big difference. The jasmine because it comes from the flower. It’s going to be softer. It’s going to be gentler. It’s going to be more In feminine, whereas the, the tree essence is going to be deep in the roots. 05:09 Sustainability, being able to live under winter cycles, summer cycles. So there’s stability, there’s a groundedness really good for the adrenal is really good for energy. So very different based on where the essential oil comes from. And I’ve given you a list of plant parts, like for example, let’s say you’re using an essential oil that comes from the seeds. One of my favorites is sweet fennel type, I’m going to talk about that how it affects our eye health. So if you start using a seed, what is that about starting something new birthing something, okay, so you are now in the rhythm of the plant. Okay, as opposed to the rhythm of the cars, the honking the computer, manmade things, and how many health professionals holistic health professional professionals today, say spend 30 minutes in nature. Do it something like forest bathing. Okay, we are out there in the trees and you’re sitting under a tree for 20 or 30

Today we are talking about how and when to use essential oils. Essential oils have really helped me over the years and I have spent a lot of time understanding them and understanding how they work with our bodies and I am excited to share that with you. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS essential oils, peppermint, aromatherapy, anointing, apply, oils, clarity, talk, a little bit, organic substances, put, cotton ball, coming, plants, wet, tamarack, Spotify, intuitive, mechanical equipment, energy 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. So when you use essential oils, there’s something we talked about cool, called anointing this goes back to a very ancient practice, when you take an essential oil, and you apply it to your body, you are cleansing your energy field, you are penetrating your energy, and you’re coming into the physical body. So this is a sacred act, whether you anoint yourself, or whether you have somebody anointing you applying the oils, you know, in some of my aromatherapy intensives, we would have people in the class and there would be on the last day you would partner up. And one person would be giving a treatment, and one person would be receiving treatment of the essential oils. And I would have maybe 200 essential oils up on my table. And people would go up to the essential oils, and they would intuitively say, you know I need a little bit of Neroli I need a little bit of ponderosa pine and eat a little bit of Tamarack. So it’d be very intuitive, they would learn all the basics the first two days. But on the third day, there is a very strong, intuitive nature related to essential oils. And they would choose those oils and they would be treating their partner by doing some kind of a massage. And this is the power of anointing I used to see it at every class, that anointing was super healing, you first have the essential oil, but then you have the anointing factor, putting it on your partner’s body, your friend’s body, your child’s body, massage, massaging it in, and getting a lot of benefit from that level of care. Now, in some aromatherapy circles, they talk about applying one single essence. That’s another term for essential oil. Or you can layer the essential oils, one on top of the other. And there are different ways that you can apply them to the skin. There’s certain ones that you can drink, the certain ones that you can put in a diffuser and spray in the air. And there are actually some that you can apply internally. Now, since this is for many people, a beginning for them. Where do you start? How do you work with it? Well, before we get to that, it’s important to know where do these essential oils come from? You know, the companies I work with, they practice wildcrafting and biodynamic farming, they put a lot of power and resonance into the essential oil. They’re not using mechanical equipment to harvest they’re doing hand harvesting. They follow the natural rhythms, the full moon, the new moon, they don’t do machine pouring but they hand pour it. So when you hand pour, you are putting your energy into the bottle. This makes a difference. This is why I was saying some of these big corporate companies, they’re doing machine pouring. And the two companies that I recommended for you both do can porn. And since we’re working with vibration and energy, the whole idea is the higher the frequency, the healthier we’re going to be 05:02 Now in my, in my exploration, I like to look for local farmers, small font families that maybe generationally they’ve been in the business, because the field of aromatherapy is certain certainly gotten very well let me say people get on the bandwagon, and they may put a trace of rose or lavender in their soap or they’re, you know, their shampoo. But it’s not really having a therapeutic effect, it smells nice, but it’s not really creating the change that we need to create. Now, when we talk about essential oils, specifically, these are organic substances, they are derived directly from the plants. They’re very diverse. And how they are created is the plant part is heated up, boiled, and steam starts to emerge that contains both the essential oil and some water vapor. And we’re gonna be talking about hydrosols, which are the mist and the regular essential oils, which is very concentrated. Just want to say there’s a real complexity to the essential oils, there’s a real intelligence to these. This is a whole other level than sa

Podcast 181: Q&A

Today we are talking about prescription medicines. I received a question about terazosin and its effect on the eyes, so we go into that and the importance of using pharmaceuticals minimally to maintain your optimum health. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS pharmaceutical drugs, prostate, drug, iris, oxidative stress, called, alpha-blocker, hyperplasia, pupil, pharmaceuticals, medication, doctor, benign prostate, side effects, aromatherapy, health, holistically, naturopathic doctor, men, treat symptoms Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Okay, so there’s a question out there in the audience, and it has to do with a medication called terazosin. And this is for benign prostate hyperplasia BPH, and it happens in over 80% of men, this prostate condition, especially if you’re over the age of 70. And this particular drug is used to help control the prostate hyperplasia. Now the question is, number one, does this contribute to cataract formation? And the answer to that is no, it doesn’t contribute. However, one of the side effects is blurred vision. But the pharmaceutical drug does not cause oxidative stress built up in the lens. But there’s a second issue that comes up and I’m bringing it up because it’s not really talked about very much, but it’s a very serious condition as it relates to this medication. So Tara’s Dawson is, is a form of what we call an alpha-blocker. And this alpha-blocker is used to treat this prostate condition. However, what it can cause is something called intraoperative floppy Iris syndrome. Now the iris is the color portion of the eye, it’s a muscle, and it dictates and governs the pupil, expanding and contracting. So if you take this type of drug, it can create this Iris condition, which will then move you away from being able to get cataract surgery. And there are some things that you can do to maybe reduce the risk of developing this Iris, floppy Iris syndrome. For example, one thing that you could do is take another drug, which is called 1% atropine sulfate, and this will keep the pupil constricted. And if you do that, then it’s not going to affect the iris. However, my advice to this gentleman who’s taking our Senate seminar and any man out there is to start seeking out a functional medicine doctor and an integrative doctor, a naturopathic doctor and get your prostate to work better by using natural holistic methods so that you move away from this whole drug pharmaceutical merry go round that we get on that is wreaking havoc on our bodies. And the fewer pharmaceutical drugs you’re taking, the healthier you’re going to be. And there are many, many things that you can do to boost your prostate health. One of the main ones is that most men that have a reduced prostate health are very deficient in the trace mineral zinc does is an example. But there are many techniques that you can use to improve your circulation, reducing oxidative stress in prostate exercises. Because if you start taking these pharmaceutical drugs, remember pharmaceutical drugs are synthetically made, and I don’t care what drug you’re taking. If you’re on pharmaceutical drugs, and you’re being influenced by all these side effects. It is going to take you away from your health and wellness and one of the side effects is it’s going to affect your eyes and visions. There’s no question about that, that there are some times that you need to use pharmaceuticals, use a lower dose and really try to find ways to get off these medications. None of them are going to support your health and wellness in a vital way. This is why I’m a strong proponent of things like herbs, aromatherapy, essential oils, medicinal mushrooms. 04:53 We’re going to talk about these things today. So that you move off the synthetically made pharmaceuticals Which do nothing but treat symptoms, that’s all they do. Any drug is going to treat a symptom. So in this particular case, sir, I would consider seeing if you could find a doctor who could help you holistically. So that’s my rant for this morning. Thank you for listening. I hope you learned something from the EyeClarity podcast show today. If you enjoyed the episode, make sure to subscribe on iTunes or Spotify and leave a review. See you here next time.

Podcast 180: Q&A

In this episode, I give you some insights into what happens if you’re diagnosed with cataracts. I talked about different exercises, like my plus lens to blur the eye dialog, and I recommend some helpful nutrients. We also explore the difference between my approach and a disease-based model approach. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, cataract, lens, blur, continuum, prescription, glasses, nutrients, hypervigilance, oxidative stress, give, talk, adaptive response, reverse, people, dialoguing, body, doctor, strategy, create Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Hey everybody, it’s Dr. Sam. And in this podcast episode, I give you some insights into what happens if you’re diagnosed with cataracts. And so in the session that I’m giving, I talked about different exercises like my plus lens to blur the eye dialog, and I recommend some nutrients. So I hope you enjoy the show, thanks for listening, the first thing that I would say is, is that the world that you were in when you got the eye exam, is a disease-based model. And when you’re in a disease-based model, basically what’s happening is that the people who are administering the information, they, they’re looking for disease, that’s basically what their whole trip is about. And because of their perspective, or point of view, first of all, they don’t even know that you could actually heal or improve your eyes. I mean, there’s no, like, oh, let’s, let’s trust our body’s intelligence, you know, as we talked about and continuum. And as Emily used to say, The eyes are one of the most unrealized tissues of the body. And, you know, these doctors are wanting to do surgery and drugs, and, but they’re not looking at the bio intelligence of what the eyes have to offer. As it relates, I mean, just to the brain, because the eyes originate. And there’s such old, old tissue, meaning, you know, primordial, in a sense. But on a practical level, I would interpret the test results very differently. And my interpretation is that it’s time for you to embark upon a different strategy with your eyes and vision. Because of the high metabolic need of the eyes, the retina, the optic nerve, I mean, basically, the retina is a sea of microcapillaries. And the lens of the eye relies on its nutrient absorption indirectly, there are no blood vessels that are running to the eye to create nutrients. So the lens of the eye is susceptible to accumulating oxidative stress. And that’s what a cataract is. And actually, for your age, and the fact that they make a statement that you were not going to need surgery for another seven years, or whatever they said that I don’t even know that I would even call it a cataract, I might call it well, you have a little oxidative stress on the lens. And that’s good information for us. Because there are actually specific nutrients that you can take that you can use to get rid of the oxidative stress and the lens, and you can actually target the lens as a way to the metaphor would be to clean out your recycling bin. To get rid of metabolic waste, there are specific ingredients, which I will share with you in a protocol that will erase what they’re seeing. And then in that 03:49 what’s going to happen, it’s also going to help your retinas it’s going to help the cornea. And basically, what is needed here is a strategy of improving certain targeted antioxidants that you need to boost, and then the eyes will revert back to a healthier position. So I’m going to go over those in a minute. Now in terms of the glasses, so any prescription of glasses that you get from the eye doctor is a measurement of an adaptive response that you’re making. You’re making some adaptive response mentally, psychologically, physically, emotionally energetically. And so the doctor is basically he’s just giving you that and what it’s going to do is it’s going to reinforce that the reaction or the adaptive response that you’re making at that moment. So when you reinforce that it’s a closed-loop. Um, you’re destined for more deterioration. And what was really cool about what you shared at the beginning, was your own self-regulation around? Well, you know, I don’t really need lenses very much, I’ll use them a little bit here or in this particular circumstance. And that’s actually the best way to use any prescription, you only use it when you need it, you only use it sparingly. And then you&#8

Today we are digging into color therapy treatment for your eyes, specifically for cataracts. It’s a great tool to use for your eye health! Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS color, therapy, oils, colored glasses, companies, essential oils, aromatherapy, eye, Tuesday, give, buy, therapeutic value, experience, traumas, sprays, topically, adulterated, journaling, terms, carrier oil Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. All right, well, while you might be typing your questions, there have been a number of inquiries about aromatherapy, and color therapy. And we’re going to be doing color therapy on Tuesday. And I have developed the way through zoom, that we can do the color therapy online, and you don’t need any colored glasses. And my suggestion at this point would be to just wait on buying the colored glasses, we are going to be using all the colors, the main colors of the visible spectrum. And I’m going to teach you how to use color therapy to heal not only cataracts, but the eyes in general, and how color therapy can improve your health. So you can experience this color therapy treatment at our next session without having to buy the glasses. Now, once you’ve experienced it, and you understand how we’re utilizing the color therapy, then you can decide, okay, I want to get the colored glasses, are there other ways that I can do this color therapy? So I would say if you’ve got a question about buying the colored glasses, and you’re not sure, and you’re not sure which colors to buy, and all that, just wait, it’s not a problem. And you can use this program that I’m going to send you where you can actually do the color therapy on your computer or your phone. And I’ll talk about the pros and cons of using colored glasses color gels versus having the light projected at you, we can do it both ways. And so this particular technique can work really well at improving your eye health. So let’s hold off on getting the color glasses if you’re concerned. Now in terms of aromatherapy, not all essential oils are manufactured equally, there are some companies out there that because of the volume of manufacturing of the essential oils, you still get the fragrance but you may not get the same therapeutic vibrational value. It’s why you don’t necessarily like using companies that do multi-level marketing, and really big companies. Now, that’s not to say that Young Living or doTERRA are, are not good oils. They are I actually I there’s some central oils I’ve used in both companies. And I’m just making some suggestions about these more boutique companies where the essential oils are higher vibrationally. And they definitely have a higher therapeutic value. So I’m going to leave it up to you if you are comfortable with the essential oils you work with. And you’d rather just use those, that’s totally fine. You know, I’m not financially invested in where you buy your oils. I’m only looking at the companies that give you the highest quality, they test their oils, they’re not adulterated. They’re honest. And they’re therapeutically valuable in terms of making the changes. So you know, if you want to get the oils, I recommend you just go to these websites, and you order them. And if you would rather stay with the companies you like, by all means, do that. And let’s see if we’ve got any questions. It’s best to do color therapy without contacts. If you have. 04:22 Let’s hold on a second. It’s let me go through these questions one by one and I’ll answer him for him. How do you help the AI that is troubled and needs love? Well, what you can do is can you can patch the other I say for 10 minutes, and just really cultivate a better relationship with the AI that’s troubled and need love. So do a little more coverage of the kind of the positive eye and let this other I have more experience on its own and it’ll stop Releasing the history, the conditioning, the traumas, whatever is bothering it, by just having it experience the world as it is. So you can, you know, just walk around with it, you can do some journaling, just do it in a safe place where you can go internal with the eye that needs more love. The dialogue takes maybe five minutes, you know, the length of what we did here. You don’t have to do it for a long time. Alright, a question about color therapy with or without contacts, better without contacts, but you can certainly do i

Podcast 177: Q&A

One question I get asked all the time is, ‘can you reverse cataracts.’ The answer is convoluted and isn’t the same for everyone, but here is a little bit more about my process and some steps you can take that might actually help prevent and reverse cataracts. Enjoy the show. If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS cataracts, eye, eat, disease, doctor, more sophisticated techniques, improve, ocular, lens, Harvard medical school, age, regenerate, patients, scientific principles, artificial sweeteners, Edelman, surgical procedure, eye exam, integrative, regenerative Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. So let’s talk a little bit about, can you actually really reverse cataracts? You know, I get this question every day on social media. So you can tell from my gray hair. I’ve been doing this a few years. And when I first started out in practice, my first practice was in the Philadelphia area. That’s where I grew up in Pennsylvania. And I affiliated with a holistic eye doctor, in Philadelphia, his name was Dr. Ellis Edelman. And I started working in his practice when I was 28 years old, he was 62 at the time, and I began counseling patients when they would come for an eye exam, and I would see their cataracts. And I would just offer them some very basic dietary recommendations. You know, like, reduce your sugar, eat more vegetables, have some berries in the summer, stop eating artificial sweeteners and processed foods. And within three months, when I’d had them come back, I find that a high percentage of people had reversed their cataracts. And so I was 2829 30 years old, just getting into practice, way back then, I saw that just by changing your diet a little bit, you could improve your lens health. And of course, today, if we fast forward, I have a lot more sophisticated techniques. So, therefore, my percentage of helping people reverse cataracts is even higher. But when I go into the literature, because I know some people like the science, Harvard Medical School, actually has a specific program called the ocular regenerative Regenerative Medicine Institute. And they’re doing ongoing research on developing methods to regenerate eye tissues from a variety of diseases from glaucoma, macular degeneration, corneal disease, and even ocular cancer. I know most of you found out about cataracts, and you may have been surprised when the doctor told you you had cataracts because you ate pretty well, you had a pretty healthy lifestyle. And then when you ask the question, well, are there any integrative things that one can do to improve lens health, either from a preventative place or proactive place, you’re probably met with a pretty terse, know that we’re just going to watch the cataract ripen, I like to use that word ripen. And once it right ripens, we will take it out. And it’s all because of your age. So I’m going to show you a lot of ways to tap into your regenerative abilities. Now, when I lecture to regular doctors, a lot of times they start laughing when I use the words, eyes, and regeneration in the same sense sentence. But there are some scientific principles that you can’t argue with. The first is that you are not destined just by your DNA. I often say this, that you don’t have to live out your genetic destiny. Just because your mom and dad had XYZ disease. That doesn’t mean that you’re going to get it. I’ve had 1000s of patients who’ve told me that their parents, their grandparents, all had cataracts. And yet here they’re 75 they’re 80 years old. And they don’t have cataracts. I can think of a lady right now is 82 years old. She came to see me when she was 79. She had a severe cataract in her left eye and a had cataract in a right eye. 05:03 And she came to see me because she was really upset because her eye doctor was bullying her and forcing her into a surgical procedure that frankly, she wasn’t ready for. She was not interested in it. And so she sought me out. And within a year, cataracts in the left eye which was severe, went completely away 100% and then the right eye, the cataract one away about 99%, and she still comes to me, she’s a local Santa Fe resident, so I’m able to see her and she’s been coming to me for about three years now. And every week I look at the lens in the right eye and it’s like 99% the cataract is gone. The left eye The lens is completely clear. So, age is not an excuse. And you can regenerate and improve not only your eyes, but your body even as you get into

SUMMARY KEYWORDS cataracts, lens, drugs, light, glycation, process, eye, proteins, blue, blue blockers, zeaxanthin, pictures, anti-inflammatory agent, acid xanthine, cortical, create, part, protein molecule, oxidative stress, lutein Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Alright, causes of cataracts drugs. So I did a video blog you can go to that article, but I’m going to give you the bullet points. So these are the drugs that can cause cataracts, steroids, primarily used as an anti-inflammatory agent for things like asthma, arthritis, lupus, we include in the family glucocorticoids corticosteroids, prednisone, a lot of people have been on prednisone, hydrocortisone, cortisone. These are other top drugs, top photosynthesizing, birth controls, antihistamines. sulfa, drugs, tranquilizers, antidepressant depressants, oral and anti-diabetic drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, things like Advil, ibuprofen, Motrin. These can contribute to the oxidative stress we find in cataracts. Okay, let’s take a question here. Do those blue light glasses and apps work for using digital devices? Yes, they do. I think it’s a three-prong process. I think it’s the blue light blue filter glasses, the ones that I sell. I’ve researched the blue light industry. And what I decided was putting a blue-blocking filter on the backside of the lens, so it’s closest to your eyeball will cut out the most amount of blue light. Now in terms of apps, I am working with a company right now, where I’m going to be probably putting it up on my web store. That is a shield that you can put over your computer or your phone that can add an additional effect of blue blockers. So stay tuned, it’s probably going to happen fairly soon. I’ve been talking with a company for a while. That’s going to make it for me. And number three, the supplements lutein, zeaxanthin, and Xanten are very important for macular health and help block the damaging blue light they deflect it, also the ultraviolet light. So my vitamin has those. Again, lutein, zeaxanthin, and astaxanthine are also important for your lens health. So yes, you should start taking those. Another question is Lyme disease with Bell’s Palsy can that cause cataracts? I would say secondarily, but there’s usually something going on in the metabolism of your nutrients in the lens in the eye and I’ll go into that mechanism in a few minutes. That’s creating oxidative stress. And it’s the oxidative stress that is creating all these cataract situations. Alright, let’s come back here. We’ve talked about these kinds of drugs. Alright, so the mechanism of cataracts, let’s go into this. As I showed you the lens is a transparent tissue. It helps the light pass through the lens to the retina. And the lens is comprised of water, a mix of proteins, and collagen. And cataracts start forming partly because the proteins begin to clump together. And as the proteins consolidate, it causes the lens to go from a white color to a yellow color, and eventually a brown. Now another mechanism with cataracts has to do with something called the glycation process of the lens. This is where a sugar molecule binds to the protein molecule in the lens of the eye and the protein molecules are altered. And there’s a clumping together which creates a cataract on the outer edge of the lens and I’ll show you what it looks like. So if you suffer diabetes, high blood sugar levels, even cardiovascular disease, this induces the glycation process in the eyes. Free radicals which are unstable molecules 04:57 override any good To antioxidants, that’s why you have to really boost your antioxidants to start dissolving and interfering with this glycation process. Okay, now this is a very interesting part of the workshop because what I’ve done here is I’ve taken some photographs, my colleagues have sent me some photographs on different types of cataracts. The first type is called a nuclear cataract, which is found in the center part of the lens, and I’ll show you a picture of it next. Because of the location, it impacts the vision, probably the worst because of blocks your central vision. So here is pictures of what we call a nuclear cataract. It’d be good to know what kind of cataract you have. Maybe it’

Hey everybody, it’s Dr. Sam and I wanted to give you a glimpse into an evaluation I did making recommendations with a seven-year-old, autistic child. Now many of you don’t know, but I have specialized in working with children along the autism spectrum. We call it ADD on one end and autism on the other end. And I consult at a facility in Albuquerque called KidPower. You may have heard in some of my other podcasts, where I do trainings with the therapists, and I have extensive education and experience in working with these kids, I love these kids, they’re so awesome. And my kind of eye exam is really different than most eye doctors, we spend most of this time on the floor, believe it or not, because I’m really interested in their sensory-motor development. You know, one of my teachers used to say that when a child comes in for an evaluation, you’re evaluating the eyes and the vision, but you’re really evaluating the total child, the whole child. And my kind of eye exam is really different than most I doctors, we spend most of this time on the floor, believe it or not, because I’m really interested in their sensory motor development. You know, one of my teachers used to say that when a child comes in for an evaluation, you’re evaluating the eyes and the vision, but you’re really evaluating the total child, the whole child. And so we’re looking at it from a developmental perspective. We’re looking at it from a nutritional and biochemistry perspective. And we’re looking at it from Well, a lot of different facets beyond reading the eye chart, you know, most eye exams, you read the eye chart, they check you for eye health, they give you a pair of glasses, and you’re out the door and unfortunately in the pediatrics world, they put eyedrops in children’s eyes and it paralyzes the focusing muscles and then they end up giving these really whacked out prescriptions, which are too strong they’re too distorted because when you use eye drops, you are paralyzing the focusing muscles inside the eye. So in this boy, he came in with a very imbalanced prescription one eye was a lot more farsighted than the other in terms of the glasses, and he has a condition where his eyes are diverging so when I stray while the other eye wanders out, and then every once in a while he’ll alternate in the wandering eye will come in and fixate. So we call this an alternating exotropia or a divergent strabismus, and he’s had two eye muscle surgeries. And whenever you do eye muscle surgeries, you’re disconnecting the eyes from the brain, it is one of the worst surgeries you could ever do. And it really has a very low success rate. And it’s very eye centric, you know, let’s try to fix the, the strabismus by straightening the eyes through cutting the eye muscles doesn’t work, because it’s the brain that directs the eyes and the eye muscles. And that’s a learned and developed in an organic skill that’s based on our developmental motor patterns. And these patterns start in utero. And one of the body of work that I’ve studied is called the primitive survival reflexes. Now a lot of therapists know about this occupational therapists, I studied with two really fantastic guy, doctors from Scandinavia, and their community there, those eye doctors had been working with primitive reflex therapy for 20 years, you know, when I met them, and the primitive reflexes are governed by the brainstem, that’s the lower functioning part of the brain. There are early motor patterns that start in utero and one of the reasons why we all have these reflex patterns is they help us go into new situations and handle th

Today I give you a view into a session I did with some parents. This is a child who has been diagnosed with his right eye being very nearsighted, and his left eye being very farsighted. And he’s gone through a lot of learning challenges and developmental delays. I’ve been working with him for over two years and he’s made some incredible changes. So I thought I would give you some insight into how we did that. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, ball, motor, sighted, walk, vision, left, body, read, develop, memory, piece, prisms, spatial, important, swing, visualization, motoring, world, distance Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. So, you know, if we go back to his like, his exam, that is right, I was nearsighted in his left eye was farsighted. And so if he’s actually seeing clearly at the distance with his right eye, that means his near sight in this has reduced. He’s not as near Well, according to Dr. Slotnick, she speaks Okay, so he’s, we’ve released some tension in his right eye, because myopia is a lot about tension. And so through vision therapy, his right eye is engaging. Now, what’s interesting about the left eye, yeah, that’s farsighted, he should be able to see pretty well in the distance. And you’d have more difficulty seeing up close with the left eye. So that’s kind of odd. That he can’t see things with his left eye. So I’m not sure I’m up close. So his right eyes had historically his right eye is the reading on his left eye is the distance high, just based on nearsighted, farsighted, so the right eye was nearsighted, that’s the eye he reads with the left eye is the far-sighted eye, that’s the eye, he looks into the distance. So he’s gonna have difficulty reading with the left eye, and he’s gonna have difficulty looking into the distance with his right eye. So it doesn’t quite match up with the fact that his right eye sees really well. So he’s got less nearsightedness. But I don’t know about the right or the left eye. You know, if I look at one of Dr. slot next earlier prescriptions, it was, even more, this is the prescription with the prism, the right eye was a 2.75 with prism. And the left eye was a plus 5.25. With prism. Well, that was crazy. So then we 350 went from a five to a 350. And, or a 275. To a, oh, he actually went up in his myopia II, and he went down as far-sighted i. So I didn’t know we’re getting kind of mixed signals there. It’d be interesting to have more of the patch, and read with each eye and see how he does with that. Like patches left eye and give him a book to read. Or give him an iPad. And see if he has to hold the iPad close. Or can he see it is you know, Harmon distance that’s knuckled to the elbow? And then can he read with the left eye? You know, really the best eye screenings are to test how a child reads the print up close. That’s a better telltale signal than reading a distance chart. 03:58 That’s not a very good screening device, honestly. Because a lot of kids have their struggle with reading. And yet that’s not tested at all. So a lot of kids fall through the cracks. You know, when they’re screened, right, so, and the other thing you can do is when you give him something to read, watch his behaviors. You know, watch how he holds his posture, his body, his neck, his facial expression, you know, is he struggling to see it? Is he able to read it easily? I think those are gonna be really good indicators observationally on how he’s going to do with his, his vision, with or without glasses. And if we do prescribe something, it’s going to be on the minimal side. Just to give him some help and support. Yeah, because we don’t want to lock in something too strong. I mean, that’s what the other doctors were doing in prisons. That’s crazy. We’re not going to do that when you were a prison. Um, a basic, you know, imprison your eyes to lock into a certain position. And so there’s no growth and development, it’s basically you know, like wearing a splint, on your leg or you know, so it’s, you know, there are times and places when you might use prisms, you know, in an exercise context, but when you start giving kids prisms, first of all, doesn’t hold, so they need more prisms, stronger prisms. And so what we’ve been doing is the reeducation of getting the two sides, collaborating, talking, communicating, and working together. And we’re do

If you have questions, you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. So just a couple of notes. When you’re blinking, when that comes in, and you’re doing all that blinking in your nervous system, there’s a part of the nervous system we call the active state, which is the technical term is called the sympathetic nervous system, that’s when you’re awake, you’re working you’re doing. And then when you close your eyes, that is called the resting state or the parasympathetic nervous system. So there needs to be a balance. Another way to say that would be in Chinese medicine, there’s the young y and G, which is the more active state and the Yin, which is more the relaxation state. And so generally speaking, your sympathetic nervous system is really working hard, you know, there’s this blinking going on, and it partly is reflexive, is partly probably habit. It’s partly, probably, I don’t know what the fuck to do. So I’m just gonna do something. And you’re kind of stuck in the sympathetic state unless you do something really radical, like closing your eyes. Or Botox, which is kind of like a paralysis to like, cut the channel for a while. And so the sympathetic nervous system is really turned on at a high level. Now, some interpretations of the sympathetic nervous system would be somebody that’s in a fight or flight, state would probably add, freeze, do that fight flight freeze, like, Oh, my God, this is like, really, I’m in a, almost like a trauma state. It’s like this is high alert. And there’s no blame, there’s no judgment on my part, I’m just kind of looking at your system and going, Man, that’s really odd. They that you’re sitting, your eyes are choosing this spasming, which you don’t like anyway, it’s very annoying, but it’s your kind of your, your default. And you have to do something really strong, to begin to interrupt it. And even when you interrupt it, really, you gotta like Close your eyes. And so why, why are you in this? What are the causes that are creating this scenario, in your vision, which is a connector to your whole body, because it’s not just happening in the eyes, we’re just seeing it in the eyes. But there is something in your nervous system, that saying I need to do this. And so here are some of the causes. I’m not saying they’re your causes. I’m just saying there’s some of the causes. One cause is that there is an eyelid irritation, and inflammation that is interfering with the normal function of the eyelids, which is to comfortably protect your eyes from the outside world from going, you know, like wow, there’s so much out there. Another function of the eyelids is that it’s made your major lymphatic system of the eyes, part of your immune system, part of where the glands are housed, that produce the tears that cover the cornea and lubricate and moisturize your eyes. Now, if there’s any dryness in the eyes, at some point, that is due to the eyelids not being able to produce the proper tears, either due to irritation, inflammation, something going on in an imbalance in the eyelid area, 04:13 if we just kind of focus topically on the eyeball and the eyelids. And when when we have a heightened sympathetic nervous system. There is a tendency for drying out of many of our mucous membranes according to the eyes. So there’s, there’s that piece, there’s another piece that’s going on around the spasm that I’m wondering about that has to do with your focus, your eye focus, and your how your brain and your eyes are interfacing. That creates this spasming. Because the way you choose the Focus, and focus is a skill. You could if we could get you to improve or change how you bring your focus to the world, that might reduce some of the spasming. It’s like, You’re, you’re trying to see you’re trying to focus. But the way you are focusing is a hug. Now, there’s some spasming muscularly going on. So I would kind of put that in the category of functional. Okay, so we had the eyelids, maybe inflammation, then we hav

If you have questions, you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to welcome you to another EyeClarity podcast. Today I’m going to take a question from a patient who is dealing with farsightedness, astigmatism, and wearing progressive lenses. And she asked the question about her new progressive lens prescription. And you’ll hear my response. Hey Leanna, I wanted to respond concerning your new prescription and what you’re experiencing. So there’s three aspects to the new progressive lens prescription that I want to report on. Number one, in this new prescription, it is very different than your old progressive lenses. First of all, the lenses are balanced so that each eye has the same prescription. And this is revolutionary for you. Because you’re all prescription had very different prescriptions in your right eye and left eye. And whenever you wear a different prescription in each eye, what it does is it actually reinforces that difference. So by getting the lenses to be the same, it’s a vision exercise to encourage both of your eyes to collaborate better, and that’s what we’re aiming to do. So it’s moving you in a direction of integration. The second aspect of the progressive lens prescription is that I completely took out the astigmatism correction. So when a person wears in the stigmatism prescription for a long period of time, what it does is it creates it creates a warping in their visual perception. And so when you take the astigmatism out, it can be really weird because the warp is gone, but it’s what you’ve been used to. So you go wow, this is like is it more magnified? Is it what’s going on here. So it’s introducing a way for you to reduce the warping in your eyes, in your mind, in your brain and in your body. Now, that’s going to be a process of unwinding. It’s not like an instantaneous. W ow, I don’t have the astigmatism, I really get it. Now we did introduce the computer prescription remember, that was the single vision prescription, and that had no astigmatism in it. And in my notes, it looked as though you really liked it that there was no problem in adjusting to it. But with the progressive lenses, that’s a whole other animal because remembering the progressive lens, it’s splitting your vision into three different levels, and it’s cutting out I would say 70 to 80% of your peripheral vision. So the non astigmatism progressive lenses, I could see where that might be an adjustment for you. Okay, now, here’s number three. When I created the new prescription, one of the things you wanted was some help in the distance with your farsightedness. So I gave you that. And then the middle part of the lens is the same exact prescription as your current computer glasses that you chose. And remember, you went to the drugstore, and you tried on different magnifiers and you chose the plus two. And that’s what I put into the center of the lens. Now below that is the reading prescription, which is about plus 2.50. And it’s really dangerous. I’m saying dangerous. If you plan on using these new progressive lenses for your digital time, I know that most people love using their progressive lenses. Because it’s one lens, it’s convenient, there’s no inconvenience and having to switch glasses, but when you wore those old progressive lenses, that’s what was causing the major deterioration in your vision. So if I had my druthers, I would say do not use the progressive lenses for the computer, because that’s not going to serve you. My advice for using the progressive lenses would be you know if you’re going out and you need to drive In order to be able to see the road sides, but I’m not even sure of that, because I think your report was, you could see fairly well without any prescription, but I’m okay with you wearing them for distance. But you have to remember with the progressive lenses, the only part of the lens you’re using for distance is like the top 20%, which is kind of a bummer, because in drivin

We have a very interesting question today. And I’ve been getting this a lot. So this is from a gentleman who is suffering, what we call mano vision. Now, there are different kinds of monovision. You know, if you go get LASIK surgery or cataract surgery, and the surgeon fixes one eye for distance and the other eye for near, that’s surgical intervention. But this gentleman and I get other questions like this has organic or inherent monovision, which means there wasn’t any surgery, it’s just the right eye has become nearsighted and the left eye becomes farsighted. We have a very interesting question today. And I’ve been getting this a lot. So this is from a gentleman who is suffering, what we call mano vision. Now, there are different kinds of monovision. You know, if you go get LASIK surgery or cataract surgery, and the surgeon fixes one eye for distance and the other eye for near, that’s a surgical intervention. But this gentleman and I get other questions like this has an organic or an inherent monovision, which means there there wasn’t any surgery, it’s just the right eye has become nearsighted and the left eye is become farsighted. So let’s break this down for you. Because definitely you can improve the condition. So the first principle I teach from is that any eye problem has its roots in the brain, and even in the body in terms of our movement and posture and, and moving through space. So let’s say for example, let’s say the right eye is near sighted, what this means is that the person can see well, up close, that’s the reading eye. So think right eye reading I and then left eye, which is far sighted, left eye distance eye. So when a person is trying to read basically, the right eye is doing all the work. And when the left eye is looking into the distance, the left eye is doing all the work. And, you know, to try to correct with lenses is difficult. I mean, with glasses, it’s nearly impossible, you can kind of do it. But because of the optics of the lens in the glasses, usually doesn’t work very well, because the key word is fusion getting the two eyes to meet in the middle. And when you’re in glasses, that just doesn’t happen. Now with contact lenses, that’s another story because of the reduced distortion in a contact lens, you can actually wear one lens for nearsighted. And one lens for farsighted and eye doctors do this to, you know, eliminate the need for reading glasses, or maybe just reduce the need, but it actually splits the brain. So when we’re dealing with monovision, that the thing we have to know is that we want to try to move in the direction of collaboration, where both eyes can start working together, at least somewhere in the middle, you know, it’s kind of like the husband and the wife are really fighting and there needs to be kind of a re remediation, you know, in Chinese medicine, the right eyes, the father in the left eyes of the mother, in terms of the awareness and consciousness of each eye. So the The goal is to try to bring the eyes in a collaborative way together. So here are three ways that you can do that. Number one, in my physical therapy program, I have a lot of exercises where you’re working each eye separately, like the animal I chart, the thumb exercise, the eye stretch. So these are really great exercises where you get to experience each eye separately. And then when you take the patch away after the exercise, the brain is starting to get both eyes working together. Or at least there’s an awareness of Oh, am I right, I do have a left eye and left eye Oh, I do have a right eye when you take the patch away. 03:31 So I would really work on those eye stretching and eye movement exercises separately. And then I have a binocular vision exercise exercise called the yin yang peripheral vision game, you print out the chart is basically the four pairs of images. And through each pair, what you’re doing is you’re holding the paper up to your nose, you’re mentally looking through the paper, you’re pushing the paper away from yourself, and the two images become three and when the three images

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the benefits of fasting lately, so that’s what we’re going to talk about today. We cover the benefits of fasting, how it works, and who should do it. You might be surprised to know that it can provide more benefits than just weight loss. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS fasting, eyesight, ketones, eat, fast, called, alternate, reduce, liver, eye, doctor, process, medication, health, replenish, heavy machinery, studies, diabetes, benefits, improve Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Hey, folks, it’s Dr. Sam. And I’d like to welcome you to another EyeClarity podcast. So in today’s show, I’ve been receiving a number of questions on the relationship of fasting, and improving your eyesight. So fasting is something that people do, primarily as a way to lose weight, that’s usually the primary goal. But one of the aspects of fasting that I really like, is how it can show you your eating habits. And when you start a fasting process, you’re eating fewer calories, and this will definitely help you lose weight. But it also has a very positive effect on many of your internal glands and organs, and specifically, the liver. And in studying Chinese medicine, I realized very early that if you have a healthy liver, you’re going to have better eyesight, less floaters, less deterioration in your eyesight when you go to the eye doctor. So they’re not going to keep increasing your prescription every year, reducing the risk of other eye conditions like cataracts, and glaucoma, or macular degeneration. So, fasting is definitely a procedure that has gained popular popularity, because it’s a way that you can take more responsibility for your health and wellness, without using pharmaceutical drugs, and or surgery. So I’m gonna do a 02:03 caveat here, which is that a before before you do any kind of fasting process, I want you to go to your doctor, and make sure that he or she gives you the go ahead to do the fasting. So this particular information that I’m sharing is for educational purposes only. And it’s not a substitute for your medical care. In fact, certain people shouldn’t be fasting, you know, if you’re pregnant, if you have diabetes, or high blood pressure, or neurological conditions, or you’re just on medications, so you want to make sure that your doctor gives you the clearance. But I’m going to give you a couple of common ways that you can enter the process. And these are just examples. There are many ways to the top of the mountain, that’s a saying I use in terms of different procedures and processes. So let’s look at four ways that you could fast. The first is time restricted, which means that you eat for a limited number of hours and you fast for the rest of the day. And a common window of eating is between six and eight hours, probably the best known as 16 eight, where you eat for eight hours, and you fast for 16 hours. And this is a pretty safe process in entering the fasting procedure. So that would be the first option. The second option is called the alternate day plan. And as it says, You eat every other day because this means different days, week to week, you are fasting so like one option would be to follow it Monday through Saturday and take a break on Sunday. So the alternate day fasting would be number two. Number three is called the five colon two. And it’s similar to the alternate day, but instead, you pick two fasting days during the week. So let’s say Monday and Thursday. And or you could do two days in a row, whatever you know, works for you. And then you eat as you like for the other five days. But you restrict your calories on the off days to about 500 to 800 calories each day. And then there’s the periodic fasting and this is something that you could practice over a month you hit the off button over several days, I would say maybe as many as five days and reduce your calories, and then eat normally for the rest of the month. So fasting is something that can help 05:17 balance out your insulin levels, it can replenish your cellular health. You know, there’s some studies that show that fasting can actually reverse the aging process. There have been a few studies in the New England Journal of Medicine that found that intermittent fasting showed benefits in health risks like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. And some of the benefits included improving your metabolism, reducing inflammation, and lowering your blood suga

So we have a very interesting guest today one of my colleagues, I haven’t talked to her in quite a while her name is Dr. Lynn F Hellerstein and let me give you a little background about her. She is a pioneer in the field of vision therapy. And she’s an award winning author. She’s written several books, and she has a new book out. I want to talk about that. And the book is entitled, expand your vision, how to gain clarity, courage and confidence. So, Dr. Hellerstein is really an amazing optometrist she is. Well, she’s a leader in the field of behavioral optometry, developmental optometry, and I certainly have had a great deal of respect. Watching her over the years in her career. She has utilized vision therapy for both children and adults with learning related vision problems, brain injuries, as well as helping athletes enhance their performance. At this point, she is helped 1000s of people improve their vision and enhance their lives. She’s an international best seller. And I’m so excited to have her on Dr. Hellerstein. Welcome to the program. How are you doing today? 01:44 I’m doing great, Sam. It’s so great to be with you. It has been ages since we’ve actually talked. So it’s it’s delightful. And I appreciate the invite. 01:54 Yeah, I want to introduce my community to you. They’re so hungry for another approach. And I care. I mean, I feel like I’m a voice out there, especially in social media, where, you know, it’s great to be able to bring on other holistic optometrists and have them speak about their perspectives. So let’s start with this. How did you get into the field? What What was your What was your starting point? 02:23 Sure. Well, my dad was an optometrist. And actually, my grandfather was an optometrist in the early days where jewelers double up and took a night course and learn how to prescribe glasses. And so, so I’m really a third generation apologist and my family, also the third woman in the state of Colorado, to be an optometrist. So, you know, I just, I feel like I’m a pioneer back then, where, you know, I was one of very few women in my class of optometry. But I got really interested, I’ve always been interested in medicine. And I was on the course to go to med school and be a pediatrician in last minute, I decided I wanted a family, I didn’t really want all those night calls as well. And so I switched optometry. And the reason I was really interested in that field is because of my own vision problems, it’s usually where it starts. I was a, I could see great, didn’t need glasses for seeing. But when it came to reading, and I knew how to read, I had all the vocabulary to read. But very early on your second grade, I’d start reading and before you knew it, my eyelids got heavy and the print started blaring and I was sound asleep. And it didn’t make any difference. What I was reading how long I was r

This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. You can get out of this, this hole, because you’re basically in a hole. What I would love for you to be able to do in your process would be to go, Well, what is the mirror here? What am I learning about my habits, and, you know, my mental makeup around this new experience. And I certainly hope you weren’t trying to drive or write a book with these contact lenses, because that would be a big mistake, not at all. So, you know, like, you go for therapy and the therapist, you start talking, or maybe it’s even the cranial, but maybe not so much. And part of it is getting out of your comfort zone. You know, and yes, things are really different. But it’s supposed to be moving you in a direction of much more open an open system, maybe we should talk about that for a minute. So I care is based I care is basically a closed system. And what is a closed system, a closed system means I do the same thing. Every day, I get up, I have my coffee, you know, I have my whatever for breakfast, my donut, I go to the office I come on. And so there’s very little movement away from the status quo, you basically, that’s why we call it a closed system. And closed systems create amazing deterioration. Amazing. It’s just like, wow, over and over and over again. And with the contacts, what I was trying to do with you, is instill an idea of something called an open system, which means we need to take your vision really, really far from your status quo. And you got to be open to doing that. I mean, you, you know, it can’t be well, I did it was so weird. It was so surreal. I did a few times, and I stopped. Why would you failed in that process was? What did I want? What is it bringing up for me? What am I learning from it? And can I stay the course. Now? Well, let me finish. The thing is, is that in order for you to really shift out of this? Yeah, it’s, it’s, it’s definitely going to take us staying the course. So what I’m saying is, you need to bring your vision into an open system, because what drusen loves, is for you to do the same thing over and over again. And unfortunately, taking the fanciest Tommy out, but the fanciest vitamins I’m taking more vitamins is not going to cut it for you. And the reason why it’s not going to cut it, because you’re still not getting to the causes of what what has caused this to begin with. And so the the supplements, the diets though, homeopathy that all the things you’re doing on a cellular level, unless you shift really deeply, you’re not going to really be able to absorb what those fantastic antioxidants are giving you. And this is a big point here. You know whether it’s a make or break point for you, because what you’ve done in your eyes is you’ve done two things. you’ve pushed the world away and you warped it, pushing it away as farsightedness and warping, warping it is your astigmatism. Perfect, perfect. And what’s really cool about it, is you’ve done it about 20 times more in the right eye than the left eye. At least according to your prescription. Maybe not maybe I’m sorry, that’s not right, maybe 04:43 maybe twice as much. But it’s an interesting interplay between your right eye and left eye. I mean, the bottom line is that most vision problems are based on an energetic block. That’s, that’s emotional. That’s second logical or emotional. And I would love to say, Hey, take your 16 milligrams a lutein. And for some people. That’s it. You’re right. That’s it. And for other people, you know, it’s interesting what happens, they take their 16 milligrams of lutein and the drusen gets worse. Because they’ve set it up inside of them that I really don’t want to heal. You know, there’s some sabotage going on there. There’s some resistance. Oh, yeah. I mean, it’s a small percentage, but there are people that I will counsel, and no matter what they do to improve it

Today we are coving Strabismus. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS eyes, midline, adaptive response, tapes, left, turning, divergence, child, glasses, alternating, internalize, working, activities, eyepatch, internalization, part, fixating, paralysis, straight, lens Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Hey everyone in this podcast, I talk about strabismus, that means the two eyes are working together. And this therapist presented a case to me where the child has one eye that straight and one either wanders out, and there’s an alternating situation. And she said that a doctor recommended that the child get some dimestore glasses, some magnification glasses, and put some scotch tape on the outside part of both sides of the glasses, the right lens and the left lens, and you’ll hear my response. And what I recommend in terms of helping anybody who’s got the two eyes not working together. The question is the eyes or one or both eyes are turning out we call that either alternating exotropia or just exotropia is that it’s an over divergence, it’s like, not able to converge. So if you’re using dollar store glasses, and you’re trying to tape, the person is going to have no reference point on why you’re doing that. There’s no learning, there’s no reason why Why are you doing that to me. And so they’re probably going to just do more of it, or they’re going to find another compensating adaptive response. It starts ultimately I feel with developing more of the midline. So and I would even take it to more of the Moro reflex, that midline development is really the key in the eyes feeling safe enough to coming in. So you know, whenever there’s strabismus, we start off and we do some of the activities just during the activity if we can include one of the eyes. So we give each I chance, whether it’s the marzen ball, the ball bounce, I mean almost anything, even vestibular driven activities with the eyepatch. So in other words, we want to allow each eye to grow in their processing. And then the reflex work. So again, this is where what I’m learning about the fear paralysis reflex, that maybe that’s the place to start, because the I’m turning away from life. So the metaphor is the left eyes The mother eye, the right eyes, the father I which I am I fixating more with Is it the right or the left it you know, she usually uses the right one the left. Okay, so so the left is the mother, I’m turning away from the Mother, I’m turning away from my creativity. And I’m looking more with my father I masculine. So you can kind of I was joking with one of my 86 year old patients the other day, and I said I can look at the child’s eyes. And I can pretty much tell what the parents relationship is. It’s in the child’s eyes in their reactions and how they’re aiming their eyes. Because what children do is we internalize the primary relationship. But we don’t know what to do with that internalization. And a lot of times we internalize it through the eyeballs. And so when they start doing some output things, you see the reflection of what they’re living in. So I think that this divergence situation, I don’t think, if anything, what I feel works better with the divergence is putting the tapes on the inside part. Now you might say, Well, that makes no more than it brings the midline awareness. And it really, what’s what needs to happen in strabismus is that there’s an inability to understand your middle, whether it’s your visual metal, your body, metal or both. And by putting the tapes in the middle, you are disrupting the habit of one is straight and one is turned out which either is going to be double vision are probably suppression in the eye that’s turned out. So improving the skill set of like with that left eye turning out more, I might do some tracking to bring that left eye to have to track into midline by itself. Because with the right the right is over dominating the left and that’s why the left says I’m out of here. And so it’s a much bigger, deeper 04:55 solution. And the eyes are just reflecting what’s going on. Not on a body level. And if you look at it that way, I think putting the tapes out there is going to create more of an imprisonment and confusion. You can’t force strabismus to change, especially in kids. It’s an invitation and encouragement because it’s an adaptive response to stress and trauma. Thank you for li

Podcast 157: Lecture

In this episode, we continue talking about the importance of resting and stillness as part of any procedural process. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS stillness, space, body, happening, session, vestibular stimulation, therapeutic, sensation, imprint, talk, interventions, stimulate, settle, birth trauma, healing, process, shoulds, cranial, technique, structure Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Hey everybody, its Dr. Sam. And in this podcast, I talk about the importance of stillness is stillness overrated, or it’s underrated? Well, I think in a therapeutic setting, stillness is super important in the overall healing quotient that people can gain when we give them the space to relax, to soften, to rest and settle. You know, when I do a session with somebody, and we do a lot of stimulating things, I always build in at the end of the session, some time for them to have some stillness, and I hold the space for them, I’m tracking their nervous system to make sure that everything is okay. But most of the time, when they spend time in stillness, it is a game changer in the therapeutic process. So here’s a short presentation on why I like stillness, something that I’ve learned about the stillness, that I teach people how to listen to their bodies responsiveness, and follow that, instead of overriding it with the shoulds, oh, I shouldn’t really go there, I shouldn’t really do that. And yet, within a structure, so I have to be careful that they just don’t go off. But within that structure, can they follow, there’s bought their bodies impulse, and it’s in mostly in the area of sensation. I don’t necessarily support the emotional part, if it’s a new kind of emotion, maybe, but I don’t want them to, to re stimulate the trauma. So it’s more of the sensation. And you know, it’s not so much for me, this is my opinion, it’s not so much about the trauma, but it’s what we do afterwards. It’s like, okay, we have had a birth trauma. But then what’s there for us after to, you know, integrated process it? And part of the PTSD that goes on going? is there’s nothing, there’s no support around? Well, what do I do with this? What do I do with his imprint? And when they go in the stillness, there is the opportunity for those imprints to surface in a safe way. And then that’s where alumni come in and do some cranial, or, you know, some of the other techniques you’re talking about. But it’s like, it’s a call and response. And the call would be the vestibular stimulation, okay, now, what’s the response, and let the body have its release, unwinding, one of the things that I get frustrated with in the rehab model is that there’s no space for the integration or metabolism and metabolism. And so I’ve learned that if I can hold the space of stillness, and allow the body, the nervous system, the fluid body to express that it will resolve on its own, but it’s outside of my own time, space, you know, expectation, and sometimes the session continues after the formal time it’s over. And I knew that was going to happen with with Caitlin, that the session would go on. And this is my prediction, I didn’t want to say it out loud. But then all of these things would start happening. And I did it because I got out of the way, because I could have stopped it and, you know, try these interventions or whatever. So and I think the more you know, the more you can trust it. And the more secure you are in yourself, then you can hold that space. And then if you see something like oh, again, I bring back that boy that I spoke about a few minutes ago. There were a lot of times I would have to do many interventions to keep him contained because he was way out there, especially when he would come up to our office. So you got to see who you’re you know who you’re dealing with. But that’s that’s why I really like that rest and settle open attention. I think it really offers a potential of healing that goes way beyond the technique or what I think should be happening. Thank you for listening. Podcast 156: Interview with Kim Konte

Today we are chatting with Kim Konte. She is the founder of the national non-profit Non-Toxic Neighborhoods (NTN) and a Director of Jane Goodall’s youth service program, and former City of Irvine Community Services Commissioner. In November 2015, Kim helped launch a campaign to raise awareness to protect her children and other Irvine, CA residents. On 11/23/2016 the City of Irvine adopted a historic organic and regenerative land management policy. Since then the City of Irvine has successfully and organically maintained all pest pressure from weeds to rodents, on more than 570 acres of community and neighborhood parks, athletic fields; over 6,000 acres of open space, over 800 acres of public right-of-way, including street medians and parkways; 70,000 trees; and nearly 1.5 million square feet of facilities.   Kim and her team have now assisted over 200 cities, counties, and school districts to ban glyphosate and take organic and regenerative land management policies and legislation online.  NTN has proven that you can have beautiful parks, athletic fields, and open space without the use of harmful and synthetic pesticides. Non-Toxic Neighborhoods and our advisors believe that it should be a basic human right that our children are protected from environmental harm where they live, learn, and play!    Kim was awarded the City of Irvine’s Civic Leader award in 2017 and was added to the Wall of Recognition.  Non-Toxic Neighborhoods to work towards having every child have protection from exposure to harmful and synthetic pesticides. Since 2015 Kim has now assisted over 200 cities, counties, school districts, and New York State ban the use of glyphosate and adopt organic and regenerative practices.  Kim is currently working with Assembly Members and Senators to author a Bill banning Glyphosate from California’s schools and parks as well as many other states. Kim and NTN are currently working to have city leaders around the county adopt the Children’s Environmental Bill of Rights. SPOKANE, WA: With our partner group, Non-Toxic Neighborhoods, the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights (CDER) developed and is releasing a new model ordinance, the Children’s Environmental Bill of Rights. – https://www.centerforenvironmentalrights.org/news/childrens-environmental-bill-of-rights-model-law-launched.  The model ordinance, intended for passage by cities, towns, counties, and other municipalities across the United States, is focused on protecting children from environmental harm. The model ordinance recognizes the right of children to clean air and water, to be free from synthetic pesticides and toxic chemicals, and to be healthy.  Enjoy the show! Well, as promised, I’ve been invited many different guests on my show. And today we have somebody very unique. Her name is Kim Konte, and she is the founder of the national nonprofit, nontoxic neighborhoods. And she is an amazing person who I really admire. I met her on her Instagram posts. And she has assisted over 200 cities, counties and school districts to ban glyphosate and take organic and regenerative land management policies and legislation online. So she’s trying to clean up the environment in all these common lands, like parks and golf courses, and places where people congregate, and we don’t realize how toxic these places are. And she is supportive for of course, parents, pet owners, schools and universities, landscape and professional manager, city managers, government officials. So Kim, I want to bring you on. Thank you for joining us today. Tell me your story on how you started these non toxic neighborhoods, and how it how it’s come about. 01:56 Sure. And thank you so much for having us. And it, it found me my backgrounds in traditional advertising. And I had no idea kind of this is where I would end up. But it happened, just by wanting to be able to protect my children and feeling like as a parent, I had failed them. You know, we have our kids, we love them, we want to enjoy them and make sure they’re in an environment where they’re able to thrive. In this episode, we talk about the importance of resting and stillness as part of any procedural process. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS proprioceptive, person, prisms, vestibular system, auditory, tracking, dizziness, settle, open, craniosacral, broadness, feeling, exercise, give, metabolizing, sensory-motor, proprioception, sensory overload, overload, breathing Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Hey, everyone, its Dr. Sam. And in this riff, I am talking to a group of therapists and giving some advice about when you give a technique, an exercise a procedure, it’s very important to build in some relaxation time I call this open awareness or open attention, you know, in a lot of different rehabilitation models, they go from one exercise to the next exercise, and there’s no time for digestion, and metabolizing, the stimulation that you receive. And I consult with a clinic, where I work with a lot of special needs kids, and so they have a very high sensitivity of sensory overload. And so in this conversation, I give some examples on why I like to take breaks, and go into something called rest and settle. So enjoy. Well, like anything that I do, it’s not a cookbook as not, like that’s absolute. And sometimes in the cake mix, you need to actually do both. And it kind of is dependent on the person where they’re at in terms of their nervous system modulation, and the age and where they are in terms of Do they have a sense of their proprioception or not? So one of the things that I think about in the head of the open attention after the vestibular processing is sensory motor overload. And so I have to read the person to see whether or not they actually want more employment, or do they just want to rest and settle and integrated within themselves? It is certainly a more advanced practice, to say, okay, after we’ve done the vestibular system situation, let’s, let’s just go into rest and settle and open attention. But I’m tracking the person’s breathing, I’m tracking how much of the person’s body is contacting with the ground, I may need to add some auditory instructions, you know, are you aware of your breathing? Are you aware of your body? Do you want to move your arms or legs? How are you feeling? So I’m checking in with them, I’m not walking away. 02:51 And so in my energy on an intentional level, is I’m I’m with the person energetically and tracking them as if I was doing some craniosacral on them, except I’m just sitting with them. So I think you’ll have to read the person and decide, okay, do they need some proprioceptive feedback? Do I need to do that? Or can I just guide them in a more passive way and let their body kind of figure it out. In this particular instance, this gal was in a sensory-motor overload. And she was in the space where she was really feeling some dizziness, and it was the first time she felt dizziness through her vision. So the prisms were able to awaken the vestibular system in a beautiful way. And so what I thought was, intuitively, let’s see how she does with it. And as I was tracking her, she seemed her breathing seem to get longer and deeper and slower. So I didn’t need to add the proprioceptive. However, she might come for a session here and she may be in a different place with her nervous system. And then it would be appropriate where you would add some of that proprioceptive feedback, which is perfectly great to do. It could be from everything from you know, joint compression to a weight to putting a weighted vest on her are doing craniosacral with her. So I think you just have to read the level of what’s, what’s going on here. And maybe she does need some help in the appropriate set of like, Where am I in space of, you know, she gets really disoriented. So what you saw or what you heard was a small site snapshot, and the broadness What I might offer and let’s say I had a younger child here who didn’t really understand proprioceptive I would roll him up in a blanket in a taco. And he and his mom, Jennifer, we would push on him after we did the vestibular stimulation, because he just couldn’t handle that. So those are two really different kinds of kids. And so that’s, that’s my answer. What the mom saw was in that moment, that was what her daughter needed. But that might be different here. It might be different each time you do it, but what the powerful thing was is the yo prisms, were able to connect the vision and the a

Today we have a special guest, Emma Destrubé. She is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist and physician of East Asian medicine, as well as a somatic movement therapist and Continuum teacher. Beginning in her teens, she apprenticed under somatic movement pioneer Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum. Together they researched and developed fluid movement/sounding protocols for neuromuscular compromises and other therapeutic applications of somatic movement and breath work practice. Emma holds a private holistic health care/healing arts practice in Los Angeles, where she helps to cultivate vitality with patient-empowering, poetic medicine including acupuncture, herbalism, somatics, and energy work. Her patients are a broad mix of creatives, celebrities, athletes, artists, activists, meditators, and even children. She also teaches weekly online classes called Soma – a Continuum-based subtle movement, breath, and embodied meditation practice that sources somatic inquiry in the wisdom and poetry of Taoist medicine. You can follow her on Instagram at @emmadestrube or check out her website: https://www.emmadestrube.com/aboutMy last name is pronounced DES-true-bay. If you have questions, you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. Hey, folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to welcome you to another EyeClarity podcast. So today we have a very special guest. She’s a colleague of mine and a friend. And she’s got a lot of great information and wisdom. Her name is Emma, that’s true Bay. And she is a physician of East Asian medicine. She’s also a red registered somatic educator. And she’s also many other things. She’s just an amazing person. Just a little background about her. She’s an herbalist. She also has studied somatic healing and continuum. So she’s a continuum teacher. And we share that in common. We both studied with Emily Conrad, and I’m going to ask her to speak about Emily in a minute. So, Emma, I want to bring you on. And I want to thank you for joining us. And my first question is, how did you get hooked up with Emily and continuum? 01:59Thank you so much, Sam. It’s great to be here. So I came to continuum as a teenager, I was living in Montreal at the time, and I was really ill, I was struggling with the effects of a genetic condition which Western medicine had pretty much no course of action for. And I was at a place where I was really facing my own mortality. And I had come from a background of gymnastics and acrobatics, and circus art. So I was someone who was very physically oriented and identified, and what that that that part of me my body was sort of disintegrating. And so I was looking for some way to engage my self, my body into move, that would feel good and supportive, as opposed to draining and straining, and painful. And so through that I kind of haphazardly through the recommendation of a choreographer friend, was recommended to continue on. And so I started practicing it there with an amazing teacher, Linda, Raven, and Montreal. And it sort of became my lifeline. It was like the one thing that made sense to me, it was the one thing that felt good in my body that that reduced my pain levels that made me feel a sense of vibrancy or aliveness. And through this amazing series of of synchronicities, I came eventually to meet Emily Conrad, the founder. And she and I immediately connected, she looked at me in the eye and said, This is too much for one small human to carry. And what is your life? You would say that? Yeah, it was, let’s see her saying that. Yeah. And to hear that in that place, when I was sort of so I felt so alone and struggling with and, you know, trying to find support for myself. at that young age, it was just like, the only thing that had felt true and a long time. And so she’s like, what is your life? Like, right now? Is there any way that you can move to Santa Monica and work with me? And so I left everything, and I moved out with how she and I connected? Yeah. And then from there, I was just very close apprentice. I was in the studio all the time and doing everything I could to take care of a temple and exchange for our work together. And it was an incredible education. I really feel so for

Podcast 150: Lecture

Here is a lecture I gave on CLubhouse a while ago. We cover Ketosis and the glycemic index. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS ketosis, patients, eyesight, glaucoma, glycemic index foods, disease, metabolic flexibility, blurred vision, sam, retinopathy, macular, blindness, flexibility, eyes, metabolic, macular degeneration, glycemic index, inflammation, vision, carbohydrates Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. I’d like to say something about ketosis and eyesight, Dr. Sam Berne. And I’m a holistic guy, doctor. And one of the things that I’ve noticed with ketosis is that it actually protects the retina cells against diseases like glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. And particularly in glaucoma, that is a very serious vascular disease that attacks the optic nerve. And it can cause blindness, that what I’ve observed with my patients, and actually, this was validated by a study done in the Journal of Neuroscience, which said that when people go into the state of ketosis, there’s a lower risk of developing glaucoma. And also, I’ve seen this in certain retinopathy, these, especially diabetic retinopathy. But I want to say one more thing about ketosis and eyesight is that some of my patients that go into ketosis will call me and they have blurred vision. And this blurred vision will fluctuate for a while, and then all of a sudden, they will get much clearer eyesight, and their glasses don’t work as well. And when I do a re exam on them, I find their eyes have improved. But that initial blurred vision sometimes throws people because they don’t understand the relationship and what is happening. And I love what you’re saying about metabolic flexibility, neurological flexibility, and I’m going to bring in visual flexibility in this conversation. I’m Dr. Sam, and I’m out. here I’d like to say something about the glycemic index because I’ve also tracked with my patients, the number one disease for blindness, macular degeneration. And there was a study that was conducted at Tufts University, which made a correlation between people who eat you know, these foods like bread and pasta and rice, and how it affects their macular health, especially the wet macular degeneration, that’s where you need to get the injections. And I call this a very serious mitochondria disease. And I’m always talking to my patients about, you know, eliminating carbohydrates, looking at their glycemic index foods. And again, in terms of the eyes, the macula has one of the highest metabolic needs of the body, and what you’re saying about stress and inflammation, the blue light from screentime, you know, we’re on screentime, all day. All of these things together are a disaster for people’s vision and they lose their ability to see things clearly. So I’m glad that you’re bringing that up about the glycemic index. We need to really educate people on what they’re eating and move them away from all these carbohydrates. Thank you. I’m Dr. Sam, and I’m out. Thank you for listening. I hope you learned something from the EyeClarity podcast show today. If you enjoyed the episode, make sure to subscribe on iTunes or Spotify and leave a review. see you here next time.

Podcast 149: Lecture

Here is a lecture I gave a bit ago. Don’t miss it! Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, visual, pupil, child, sensitivity, defensiveness, add, midline, vision, double, vestibular, reflex, therapy, prisms, practitioner, kids, response, patching, light, alternating Hello, everyone, its Dr. I think visual regard is a very important observational assessment tool. And the reason why I say that is because we get to see the child in their time space environment, you know, they’re outside of that clinical assessment, even, even when, you have an environment, that’s very supportive, but you’re doing like tracking stuff, and, you know, some of the more visual visual tests, it’s a whole different thing when you’re observing them as as it relates to their, you know, to their eye body coordination in space in real space. And that’s why in the testing, my eye exam is really all about, okay, how does this child move through space? What’s their proprioception capability, like the vestibular potential, and that’s why we put the prisms on and we watched them walk, and I’m really observing. In fact, visual regard that might be another interesting thing to add is to have them where the prisons and watch you know where what’s happening with their posture, their their feet, that’s always a big one. And you know, many other things going backwards. That’s, that’s a big one in my in my perspective. But I think that visual regard, I was so happy to see this in your, your testing. But like, for example, over focus child compensates with vision to coordinate body movements and move through space. So we do in our workshops, we actually ask the participant to over focus, please over focus, so we can watch you please. What’s under focus? What do you do when you under focus? And then the additional observations that you have here? Like, yes, putting the metronome on and having to bounce the ball to the metronome? Do they have a regard for their auditory processing? Or are they completely oblivious, and will even ask them, did you hear the metronome? No, you know, and just yesterday, I had a couple of assessments, where each child was unable to track the auditory part of the metronome while they were doing a visual motor task. And so that really showed me a lot around their, you know, their visual information processing. Also with the Marsden ball, like we’ll have them just hit the ball and then we’ll play the Simon says game, we may add the metronome to it. And it will see them fragmenting falling apart. Emily even I was working with a four and a half year old yesterday, it was a telemedicine and we were testing the Moro reflex. And we were doing the starfish and this boy, no matter what could not coordinate his arms with his legs and his head. And his diagnosis was moderate, a stigmatism in the eyes. And he they’ve been to two different eye doctors and they got these huge astigmatism corrections. He’s having no visual symptoms. But you could see how he was fragmenting things and how one side of the body was really different than the other side of the body. And I pointed out to the mom, this is where the astigmatism started. And of course, he was a forceps delivery. The the cord got wrapped around his neck, and he was really twisted up at the very beginning. And so now fast forward to four and a half. And they they put drops in his eyes, and they came up with this farsighted astigmatism correction. So we’re just going to do learning lenses with no astigmatism, and I think it’s going to go great. So that’s where you can actually trace it all the way back to those gestation birth and bonding situations. So I love this, that you’re including it. I don’t think I would add anything to it. But I think it’s a really important part and what I’ve shared here, some of the things of like, you probably see this a lot where kids are always bumping into things, or they’re spilling their drinks, or you know, they’re dropping stuff all the time. And this is that visual regard. I mean, they’re basically again, what I’m bringing to the table Able is can the child start connecting the eyes to the body? And you see in the evaluations, when we start doing that, then all this magic happens. And my hope is that you can really start doing that so that you can get that magic from session to session this session. And I think you can it’s just I’m spotlighting that for you.

Learn to improve your eyesight with these eye exercises. Today we talk about what LASIK surgery does to you eye and how to improve your vision overtime without surgery. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, mental, blur, glasses, muscles, prescription, exercise, clarity, lasik surgery, lasik, wear, stressing, astigmatism, clear, surgery, lens, principle, vision, bursts, ready 00:05 Hello, everyone, its Dr. The progressive lenses are basically going to tunnel your your vision, I mean, that’s you’re looking through a small compartment. And that’s going to strain your eyes and strain us. If I’m here, if, if I heard you say, Oh, I wear the computer glasses, you know, I’m still school straining and squinting, I’m not seeing the the digits on my spreadsheet clear enough, then I would consider giving you the astigmatism. But when you stop wearing the astigmatism, the eye tends to revert back to its organic shape of being round. vantage of that is that there’s less overall accumulated tension radical around LASIK surgery because there’s a mental component to how your prescription develops, like it just doesn’t develop because you turn a certain age. And it doesn’t just develop based on your genetics. But it develops based on what your mental setup is around your high balls. And with farsighted ness, which is what you you’ve got, there’s a loss of ability of being able to focus with the muscles. That’s why you need the magnification. And once you start wearing the magnification, the muscles become even weaker in the eyes. And then you get to a point where the muscles just get stuck. Because you the magnification makes things bigger. And when you do the LASIK surgery, you’re just changing the shape of the very front of the eye. The problem comes in because you change the shape of the eye but you still have the mental programming that caused the farsightedness to begin with. So now you’ve got two things to manage. You’ve got the the mental, which has caused the situation. But then you have this band aid that you’ve put over the eye with the surgery that says well I know I’m not really that way anymore. And over time, the mental is stronger than the surgery, the LASIK and so that’s why with a lot of people over time, they lose the benefits of the surgery. Now some other side effects of getting that surgery is there’s a tendency to have difficulty with dry, dry eye because you’re messing with the cornea. Already. You already have that. And then on top of that night vision usually gets very distorted with some bursts or light bursts from the headlights. So initially on that, yeah, really bad initially. Initially, the LASIK works, okay, you’re still going to need reading glasses unless they split one eye for distance one eye for near, which is a real nightmare. Because now your brain ignores one of the eyes to focus on the other eye. So is you if you as you as a candidate, I would say that’s a road I don’t think you should go down. Now, the other option which requires some daily or every other day, visual hygiene through an exercise, but now you’re entering into a process that’s gonna take some time to change the current prescription. It’s not an overnight success. So what you have to what you have To decide, in your heart of hearts, do you have it in you energy resources to say, yeah, you know, it’s like somebody saying, Okay, I’m ready to go on the South Beach diet, 05:15 I’m ready to do ketogenic I’m ready to do a fast, I’m ready to start doing daily yoga, are you ready to, I mean, truly ready to say, all right, give me an exercise, I’ll do it every day, you know, a little bit between patients and between my clients, the principle that I discovered, I had some really good teachers when I was just starting out. And they were masters that using glasses, prescriptions to improve people’s eyesight. So I learned it from them. And the concept is that in a completely non demanding situation, so you’ve got to do this, where there’s no visual demand on you, you’re obviously not going to wear these, when you’re trying to balance my checkbook, I will get mad. And I would be, you would be frustrated. Okay, so this needs to be done completely away from any visual demand. Because part of what the exercise is about for you, is understanding your mental relationship to blurry vision, your mental

SUMMARY KEYWORDS eyes, pupil, reflex, vision, therapy, prescription, kids, stigmatism, dullness, prisms, color, visual, relates, gestation, state, means, pupil size, arousal, farsighted, number 00:05 Hello everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. First of all wears glasses and when what you might want to expand upon there is actually what is the prescription? And where that would be valuable to me would be you know, are they farsighted? Are they near sighted do they wear prisms? Are did they have astigmatism? Do they wear bifocals? And why that’s important is that over time? What I would like to teach you is the behavioral manifestations of what does it mean to be farsighted? What does it mean to be near sighted in terms of behavior, spatial understanding posture movements, emotional responses. So just as an example, if somebody is near sighted, they tend to be very defensive. And it can be physically defensive, it can be emotionally defensive. There’s usually a trauma related to nearsightedness. And you could also put on there you know, when they got the first prescription, was it at infancy was when they were a toddler because the earlier they get the prescription, the more the the eyes have taken on some pre verbal imprint. What I’ve seen is the higher the number, the earlier the vision problem has occurred. And this can even go back into gestation you know this, this opens up a whole other conversation, say somebody who’s highly farsighted or highly near sighted, I asked questions about well what happened in gestation, you know, so, and then it comes down to on the reflex level, the fear paralysis and the morrow, it just gives you information. And then you could get into things like strabismus and amblyopia could also be part of that as well. For example, I was working with a child the other day that amblyopia in the left eye and we discovered in gestation, that she had been laying on her left side. And, you know, there was ended up being a breech birth and I associates wanted to do surgery on the eye because there was a bit of a esotropia as well. And I said, No way, we’re not doing that. There was Tor to call us. So there’s, there’s things to understand about that prescription. On the other side of it farsighted. You know those, those folks tend to push the world away. So they want things a lot bigger than they really are and their tonicity their arousal is usually lower. So by being able to insert the prescription, then at one of our classes, we could go into how the prescription relates to a person behaviorally. And so on. The third condition, the stigmatism is a twist in the body. And this sometimes is related to neck issues, cervical compression, some spinal issues. And so, again, knowing that there’s a stigmatism and how that might affect postural Lee, that might affect some of the other reflex things that you’re doing. Based on the handout that you You gave me I’ve been studying that and seeing how myopia hyperopia and astigmatism would relate to those reflexes and where you might want to jump into it. And then prisms are kids wearing prisms, a lot of the eye doctors prescribe you know prism in one eye, which I don’t agree with and we usually take the prisms out and Then what we do is we might prescribe some kind of yoke prisms. bifocals are another issue. A lot of times these kids just can’t wear bifocals. So we have to figure figure that out. So, I guess you could plug into at what level you want to, but at least including the numbers 05:22 would be really great. So my recommendation is to do do it with it on and do it with it off. And this is where you’re going to get subjectively, you know, you can you can do the things right below there like watery red yawning, squinting, like you could add, you could add those behavioral observations with the glasses on with the glasses off. You may discover, like use intuitively know, many times I’ve heard this from you guys, that, you know, this prescription just doesn’t seem right for this child. And you would be able to determine based on some of the, you know, the tracking things you might be doing that, you would say, Yeah, that&

Um, so I for me what I kind of discovered as I began working with people with nature Pathak medicine is that if you if we don’t address the what I call the inner self, or that mental emotional component of the self, it’s really challenging to be able to stick with something right. So often with nature, Pathak medicine, we’re, we’re counseling people on how to make those lifestyle changes that are going to help them in the long term. And that takes work, right, it takes you have to have the mindset to be able to make those changes, right, because often we’ve developed these behaviors and these patterns really early on our environment can influence those, right, there’s a lot of external factors. So we need to have that internal or intrinsic drive to want to make those changes. And so if the mind isn’t on board, right, it’s really hard to get the momentum to have the body on board as well. And so it’s really important to start with the mind to start with that inner self, so that we can connect with that part of ourselves, and have a deeper drive to want to make those changes in a deeper understanding of ourselves. So that we can, we can really see why these changes are the right changes for me, right for the person as an individual. Because I think often what we’re seeing, especially now there’s so much information, right? Everyone’s inundated with just so much information, and we don’t know what’s right for us. And so it’s really important. And I know that you speak to this too, just really tuning into kind of that inner guide, and just really better understanding ourselves and, and what you know, what is best for us. And so it takes that, that inner knowing and just really a deeper understanding of ourselves and also what got us to where we are so that we can begin to make those small shifts, so that we can get to where we’re going. So, like I mentioned, what, what I noticed is if you don’t start with that part, then that’s where we find people who you know, they’ll stick with something for maybe a week or a couple of weeks and then they find themselves right back to where they started. Right. We get stuck again. 04:41 Yeah, you know, it’s at least in your field, there’s, you know, an idea of holism or holistic health in visio

Podcast 143: Lecture

In today’s episode, we discuss how to improve your eyes through things like light therapy and reduced prescription. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, prescription, vision, blur, lens, wear, brain, myopia, eyesight, people, light, lasik surgery, colors, developing, adaptive response, gestation, reduced, doctor, creates, programming 00:05 Hello, everyone, its Dr. So I’m a firm believer in reduced prescriptions, I think you’re right on, I completely agree with everything that you say. And one of the aspects of a reduced prescription is it starts to activate your parasympathetic nervous system, which is a more relaxed state. But the key is, is that you use the reduced prescription and a non demanding non threatening situation if you start squinting or getting frustrated, then change the circumstance or change the lens. So you wear the full lens. But to wear like a 2040 lens prescription, you know, all of us would say that in wearing a reduced prescription in, especially in myopia, wearing something less, especially when you’re on digital time, you know, when you wear a lens that’s 2020 a distance and you wear that for screen time, it’s going to induce more myopia, it’s going to accelerate your myopia. So you need to ask your doctor for a computer prescription and don’t get a split lens where you’re wearing bifocals, you want to use a single vision lens, so that you’re engaging more peripheral vision. But that’s a great point that you bring out. And anybody should ask their doctor for a reduced prescription. That’s one of the best things you can do to improve your vision. 01:58 One of the ways that we use light therapy is like homeopathy. And what I mean by that is that when we provide the different colors, the visible color spectrum to patients, we ask them what color or colors they don’t like. And the colors they don’t like, are the colors that are going to give them a deeper balance. And it’s interesting how the colors match certain memories, certain subconscious or unconscious blocks that we may have, you know, in the eyes are one of the main ways we get light in the body. I mean, we do get it through our skin as well. And light is a food and it affects our endocrine system, our nervous system, you know, you were saying about the pineal gland, so right on about that. And what we’re told is to be afraid of the light well, or being afraid of ourselves, it’s kind of like we’re developing our own auto immune disease, which is we’re afraid of light, and we wear our sunglasses way too much, we need to get 30 to 60 minutes in natural sunlight every day, that’s a natural way to produce the the vitamin D that we need. So color and light therapy is a major medicine that can heal our eyes and vision. And some of you probably use this as a way to access the cycle motional psycho spiritual aspects, because for me, if we get cut to the chase, every vision problem has some kind of spiritual disease, I’ll just add a few things. You know, we have our inner vision, and we have our outer seeing. And when you start dilate, dialoguing, you’re really accessing your inner vision. It’s kind of like an inner eye test or an inner eye assessment. But you who are doing the dialogue, you’re getting to really express what’s behind the eyes. Because we want to blame faulty vision on the eyeball, but it’s not the eyeballs fault. It’s what we say to the eyes. It’s our programming. And a lot of the times that programming starts in gestation, it starts very early in the pre verbal state, and we absorb, as you know, infants, what our parents relationship was like, and a lot of times when we start dialoguing, we go Oh, my goodness, this is my parents talking because as you say, the right eyes, the father eye, the masculine energy, the left brain, and the left eye is the mother, the feminine and the right brain. And so we internalize these energies into our eyes, and then we project them out. And we project this confusion or this disharmony. And it’s no wonder our two eyes physically don’t work together. Because on an internal level, two eyes are sleeping in separate bedrooms. We’re not really married. And you also mentioned this, this instrument called a retinoscope Which is a flashlight that eye doctors can shine a light into the eye and they can see what the retinas responses and our thinking our emotions, you know, our problem solving can be

Podcast 142: Interview with Cherionna Menzam-Sills, PhD

For today’s episode, I had the pleasure of talking with Cherionna Menzam-Sills, PhD a prenatal and birth therapist. She began teaching Embodied Embryology through somatic movement in 1997 as part of her doctoral studies in Pre- & Perinatal Psychology, which led to her teaching at Naropa University and the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute. She has taught and facilitated Pre- and Perinatal Psychology/Therapy, Continuum, a mindful movement practice, and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy globally, often with her husband, Biodynamics pioneer Franklyn Sills. Biodynamics involves perceiving and augmenting embryological forces to support health and well-being throughout the life span. Her background includes extensive study with Pre- and Perinatal Psychology pioneers William Emerson and Ray Castellino, and Continuum founder, Emilie Conrad, who authorized her to teach Continuum in 2007. Cherionna has also facilitated therapeutic movement and body awareness for over 40 years as a Dance/Movement Psychotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Massage Therapist, and Prenatal and Birth Therapist. She has authored two books, The Breath of Life: An Introduction Craniosacral Biodynamics and Spirit into Form: Exploring Embryological Potential and Prenatal Psychology. She is a biodynamic craniosacral teacher, along with her husband, who Franklin sills. He’s one of my heroes have his books actually right there. And I, I refer to his writings quite a bit. Sherry Anna also has studied with William Emerson, Ray caster Leno. And Emilie Conrad, we’re going to talk about our connection with continuum. And she’s a wonderful teacher movement and body awareness therapist, dance movement, psychology. I mean, she’s just done so many, many things. And she’s also an author, and she has a new book out. This is why we’re bringing her on. And the title of the book is called spirit into form exploring embryo illogical potential, and prenatal psychology. And I have it right here. I’ve actually turned a lot of people on to her book. And so she’s so generous to come on today to share riona Thanks for joining us. And my first question is, why the book? What’s behind it? Give us give us some some background? 02:52 Oh, well, thank you. First of all, thank you for the lovely introduction makes me smile. And I didn’t know you were a fan of Franklin’s. So that’s really sweet to kind of bring him into the room. And he’s certainly an influence in in my work on the book. So why did I write this book, big book, you know, 560 pages. It took me 17 years to write this book. I realized that I started taking notes on it. About 17 years ago, just before I met Emilie Conrad, and I was reading. She hadn’t published her book life on land yet at that point. And she had a kind of pamphlet out that was called life on land. And so I was reading that, and I was just so inspired, which happened every moment that I spent with them away. And so I had to give you a little background for the book. I had. Let’s see, where do I begin? So in in while I was studying somatic psychotherapy, at Naropa University, I was introduced to the field of pre and perinatal psychology, and something in me just went, that’s it, you know, this is my thing. And after many years of really intensive work with it, or through those many years, I realized it was you know, they say we teach what we most need to learn. And I had a lot of healing to do in that area. So the thing that was really going to help me to really do that healing

This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. The eyes originate very early in gestation, some say 17 days, you know, we see the optical vesicles starting to grow out from the brain. So every tissue of the eye is brain tissue. And it’s such a an absorbable part of us, and yet it’s not really acknowledged in a lot of ways. One of the things that you described this not wanting to be seen and pulling in is something called myopia, nearsightedness. And we’re at an epidemic around nearsightedness right now because of our near focusing. And the main emotion around myopia is fear. I don’t trust I pull in I tighten up I compress and then fast forward to an adult and this is why people are developing all these eye diseases because their tissue is compressed Emily is to talk about, you know, the eyes or one of the most unrealized tissues of the body. And astigmatism is a twist a body twist. So when you come out of the birth canal, and your body is twisted, this is astigmatism that makes more strabismus where one of the eyes is crossing. In Chinese medicine psychologically the right eyes, the father eye, the left eye is the mother eye. So the right is turning in the infant is turning away from his father. Now, there could be a lot of reasons why that might occur. Then there’s lazy, you know, one eye that he’s not seeing as clearly as the other eye again, you can look at the mother father relationship and the children absorb through their eyes, their parents relationship. There’s the midline problem where the two eyes are not tracking together. And there’s a underdeveloped midline that goes way back to you know, gestation. So there are a lot of visual cues and signals that maybe don’t get developed. I’m in the process of writing a blog right now on the somatic eye, and I am bringing in some of Dr. porges. His work on polyvagal and how it affects the vision we know affects speech language, auditory, right, but that vagal experience what happens with the vision piece. 03:37 Thank you for listening. This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions you can send them to [email protected]. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. Hey everybody, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to welcome you to another EyeClarity podcast. So we have a very special guest today. She’s a physician. Her name is Dr. Monisha Bhanote, and I met Dr. Bhanote on clubhouse and was very impressed with her information. So I wanted to bring her on. But a little background about her. She is a quadruple board certified physician with over 20 years of healthcare experience. She has expertise in integrative medicine, internal medicine, and something I’m interested in because I studied this in optometry school, anatomic and clinical pathology. I’m very excited because she just shared with me she has a new book that’s going to be coming out in the fall called the anatomy of well being. She also is training holistic health coaches. And we’ll talk about that as well in many other subjects. So Dr. Bhanote, I want to welcome you. And my first question is, what drew you to researching and studying anatomic and clinical pathology? I’m really curious about that. 01:58 Yeah. So thank you, Sam, for having me on your podcast today. And yes, it’s been great meeting you on clubhouse and connecting since then. So I think what drew me to anatomic and clinical pathology is my training where I did my medical school training, I actually trained in Europe, and they are very grounded in the basic sciences. So I had extensive background in anatomy, histology and the functioning of the body. And, you know, when I came out of medical school, I did, I did what I thought was a traditional route of going into internal medicine and taking care of patients, however, that the system that I was working in did was not quite working for me in the sense of I felt like I was helping people. So I actually then explored other opportunities and went into pathology because it’s such a complex study of the human body. And there’s so much to know that I knew that I was not only not ever going to be able to learn everything, but at the same time, I was still going to be able to help people by giving them definitive answers. So people don’t really know that pathologists are actually physicians working with other physicians, they’re the physicians who actually have the answers in the sense that they make the diagnoses off of the human tissue and human cells and blood. They’re the ones who are making the diagnoses. So then the other clinicians, like the oncologist, the gastroenterologist, pulmonologist can then treat the patients. So yeah, it’s a really fascinating field actually. It’s like a doctor’s doctor. 03:58 Exactly, yeah. And just being able to look under the microscope and see what’s going on on a cellular level, you know, and I, in my practice, I talk a lot about cellular health, and that’s where it starts. So in your practice, what are you seeing these days in terms of, you know, the health challenges, you know, and how are you? How are you helping people tell us a little bit about your practice? 04:24 Yeah, so I work. So I actually, since I do semi certifications, I work both as a pathologist and as an integrative medicine physician. So my pathology side is still looking under the microscope you know, anywh

This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. Well, what I see here is that there doesn’t seem to be any developmental delays at all. So the sensory-motor system has developed? Well, it doesn’t seem like there’s any interference or impediment in the developmental motor process, because that’s where you begin to start to see some, you know, some disconnects. And the visual acuity for distance is really a poor measurement of vision. Because the distance acuity is basically just your eyesight. It’s not really vision, vision is how the eyes and the brain work together. And so when they’re referring you, it’s kind of the wrong referral. Because the eyesight is clear, they don’t, they’re not really getting what vision is. So vision would be things like visual tracking, shifting focus from near to far, depth perception. And there are some eye exercises, I can show you, that could help the visual tracking, visual focusing, and visual coordination, which would strengthen the visual system. So in lieu of getting glasses, which is really going to weaken the eyes, especially what they’re promoting, it actually makes no sense why they would want to promote that because it’s only going to weaken the eyes. And there’s nothing really wrong here. So your intuition is correct, in that you don’t really want or need to go down that road. First of all, you’ll get the glasses, she’s not going to wear them. And second of all, it’s just going to make her eyes work when they’re looking at an eye chart. I mean, the best way to really tell if there’s a vision problem is give a person something to read, have them read it, and watch what they’re doing to their face, if they’re covering one eye, if there’s eye strain, things like that. There are some eye exercises that kind of support depth perception. And I can show you those. And then I know you could take it from there. But I don’t think there needs to be a lot of intervention right now. And the glasses would be going down the wrong road. So one of the things you can do is you can test by having her look at something through her right eye and then having her look through something through her left eye and get a report. Is there a difference between the eyes? Now today, when I asked Hazel to do that, I didn’t really hear that there was any difference between the eyes. So if she’s not objectively observing a difference, then there’s really nothing to worry about. If we want to be more proactive, about the eyes working together. Again, there are one or two eye exercises that I could show you that could strengthen the coordination. And I think I should show you those. But aside from that, subjectively, just keep testing her to say well, how do you see it through the right eye? How do you see it through the left eye? It sounds like her two eyes are seeing it fairly similarly. When we tested it out, and I think you know if you’re driving, do it. If you’re, you know, looking at the computer screen, say well look through your right eye and look through your left eye. Do you see any differences or that kind of thing? 05:00 Does it make sense? Okay. Yeah. And the other. The other thing about it is that, in the eye doctors when she was reading the eye chart, there was nothing that came out that said, Oh, my goodness, she’s seeing a lot worse, out of one eye versus the other, only for eye health. If you want to get a better view of the retina, when you dilate the eyes, you are losing the opportunity to see how the eyes organically respond naturally. Because once you put a drug in the muscles, the muscles are not responsive anymore, they’re paralyzed. So you’re not going to get true responsiveness, because the drug is interfering with the person’s ability to organically respond. So if that’s her thinking, then you’re in the wrong office. I mean, that just makes no sense. So you don’t want to use dilated drops if you’re trying to figure out a pre

I was in the studio all the time and doing everything I could to take care of a temple and exchange for our w

Podcast 137: Lecture

Today we are talking about our eye prescriptions and how getting the right prescription can not only improve your vision but your mental health as well. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, prescription, wear, blurry, clarity, contacts, vision, feeling, nearsightedness, work, lens, holistic, optics, improvement, give, number, restrictions, blur, doctor, technique 00:05 Hello, everyone, it’s Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. So in my story is, is that I went up to like minus three/minus three and a quarter. And I met a holistic eye doctor in my late 20s. And it took me about a year, and I dissolved my prescription completely. And it’s been that way ever since. But it was very much a mind body healing. It wasn’t just an eyeball healing. But I had good teachers along the way, who taught me how to, you know, prescribe contacts and glasses that would support the vision improvement. And what the eye doctors are doing to you is what they’ve been trained to do, which is make the eyes worse. And there are definitely techniques just on a prescription level, that can begin to reduce that pattern so that you’re starting to feel improvement. And you know, it’s a process, but I definitely can give you a lot of pointers and tips. The reason why I asked that is that the prescription that you are wearing is calculated at 20 feet. And when you wear that 20 foot prescription at 20 feet, for your computer, you are making your eyes tenser, and making your eyes worse. And so one of the techniques that you could use with contacts is to wear a weaker prescription for the computer. And that would stop the deterioration in the distance. And over time, that prescription could actually become your distance. The other technique that works really well is to wear the same prescription in each eye because then you’re training the eyes and the brain to focus together. But when you correct one eye differently than another, it keeps the separation in place. It doesn’t allow for the two eyes to work together. So let’s say, for example, one experiment I’d like you to do would be to actually start wearing the minus four in the left eye, the right eye. 03:20 And it might be a little blurry for you. But it may not be. And you may notice that your body feels more relaxed and your eyes feel more relaxed. When you wear the same prescription in each eye. The first thing I’d like you to experiment with when you were your contacts is where a minus-four in each eye. Okay, and so now you’re on a you’re on a kind of a journey of exploration, exploration meaning, okay, now we’re going to start experimenting with reduced prescriptions and balanced prescriptions. And how do my eyes respond to that, how’s my brain respond to that. So that’s number one minus four in each eye, then I’m just guessing here, but I’m thinking that for your indoor computer work, I would consider like a minus-three in each eye. Now, one of the ways that you can confirm that or check that out, is you could go you could take like your tablet, you probably could even take your laptop to the drugstore. And you could wear your minus fours and then you go get the magnifying lens which is like a plus 1.25. That’s the lowest one you would get. And you have the screen at the distance you work at and then you put that plus 1.25 over the minus four. And you see how that feels, it should be really clear, it should be actually more relaxing. So that’s and then and then we could say, you can either wear that so that if you are going out, you don’t have to switch contacts. But I also could write you a prescription where you have the minus three contacts that you would use indoors. Now another, another technique is, you could wear the minus threes indoors for your work, and then get a pair of minus one glasses that you could wear over those contacts if you’re going for driving. Just to give you a little, just to give you a little technique, one of the things that worked for me personally, is my doctor gave me a pair of minus two contacts. And I would work in my office, and my patients would say to me, we’ve changed what’s happened Are you on, you know, drugs, what you’re seeing more relaxed. And so when you were the reduced prescription like that, it’s going to be more relaxing and more opening for your vision. And that would be something for you to get in touch with that the lower the number, the weaker the lens, the more relaxed you’re going to be.

Open Attention. In this episode, we explore how to honor our limits and the art of Self-Regulation. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com. SUMMARY KEYWORDSbody, exercise, breathing, dissolving, exhale, work, feeling, breathing pattern, dissolution, self-regulation, inhale, nervous system, stress, dissolve, system, attention, giving, clarity, healing, lasers 00:05Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting-edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to [email protected]. Now, to the latest EyeClarity episode. You go into something, the resting is called, the term that I use is called Open attention. Now open attention is a practice where you are listening to your body’s response to the stimulus that you just gave it. So if you’re making the sounds, and you’re moving, and you’re doing what you’re doing, when you’re finished, to build in this open attention, where you start listening to your body’s response, this does some very positive things for you. Number one, it helps your body absorb the really good things that you did, in making the sound and making the movement. It’s like a digestion. It’s like a metabolizing. And one of the problems that people have where they don’t embrace their health, is they don’t build in this rest and settle. They’re doing something, they go on to the next, they go on to the next. You know, about a year and a half ago, I was my friend invited me to a yoga class. So I’m in the yoga class and the instructor is this young man, he’s, you know, super exercise guy. And he’s putting us through these different postures one right after the other, after the other, after the other. And my own system said, I need to, I need to rest I need I it’s too much input. And so I started to lie down and I rested. The lady next to me says that’s a good idea. I’m going to do that to the guy next to her. So the teacher comes over says we can’t have this. And I said, Well, my nervous system can’t keep up with the barrage of asanas that you’re giving me. He says no, no, no, that’s not. And that’s the mentality of the exercise world, the fitness world. I even think it’s like that, in pretty much everything. We don’t spend time being able to integrate. And your system, when I say your system, I’m including your neurological system, your endocrine system, your digestive system, your nervous system, your fluid body, your fragile. You don’t need a million things coming to you all at once that you had that before you started working with me. And I’ve been very vigilant about only giving you a teaspoon at a time a little bit, letting you chew on it, letting you figure out okay, what’s enough for me. I felt beginning remember, remember the beginning we had the light sensitivity? And I said go get sunglasses? And you did and it helped you it was a resting for the eyes. So this open attention in your practice is a way for, number one, your body to metabolize, number two, for you to track or keep track of. Well, what are my sensations after doing all this sound? Gee, I’m feeling something in my throat. That’s interesting. Let me put my awareness there. Oh my god. Now it’s the energy is moving up to my eyes. I’m feeling some warmth. That’s interesting. that triggers a memory. Oh, I remember when I was a child. And my mother took me to the beach and we had such a great time. Oh, now I’m feeling this in my solar plexus. There’s a tightness there. Let me breathe into the tightness. So you’re unwinding your body by Putting your attention on how your body is talking to you. 05:05It’s the art of self-regulation. So I’m going to define self-regulation as the ability to regulate yourself in moments of stress. And if you can master that skill, then no matter what comes at you, you could do a few minutes of resetting yourself. And the stress is gone. puff. Personal experience on Monday, I had some dental surgery. And it was really interesting because I work with a holistic dentist, and he was doing some gum work for me around inflammation to avoid periodontal disease. And he was using lasers. So instead of cutting and like the regular dentist, you know, he was using these lasers, and it was, it was intense, was really good. So after the procedure, I was feeling a little stressed. And he said, you know, do you know how to down-regulate? Do you know how to reset your nervous system? I said, Yeah, I do. And within 15 minutes, sitting in his waiting room doing some things, I was able to calm myself down, then I was able to drive a

In this episode, I discuss the relationship between the kidneys, liver, adrenals and different eye conditions. This was a presentation I recently gave on Clubhouse. Enjoy the show! If you want more, sign up for my newsletter at: www.drsamberne.com SUMMARY KEYWORDSeyes, kidneys, stagnation, cataracts, retina, parasympathetic nervous system, holistic, sam, clarity, fact, retinopathy, important, lens, adrenals, person, omega, acid xanthine, hypertensive, stimulates, podcast 00:05Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm. Now, to the latest EyeClarity and so when I evaluate a person, I’ve studied traditional Chinese medicine and natural empathy, homeopathy, one of the things I know is that the kidneys are very connected to the dryness in our eyes, and dry eye and kidney chi stagnation are things that go together. In fact, in the major eye diseases, macular degeneration, Liberty stagnation, kidney cheese stagnation, we know the liver opens the eyes so that’s one of the main organs that innervates the eyes, but kidneys are really involved in macular degeneration as well. cataracts, kidney chi stagnation, the water in the lens, there’s an opacity that’s forming. I think the word for cataract is waterfalls. So there’s an imbalance in our water and one of the reasons why we develop cataracts also oxidative stress and not getting enough hydration in the eyes, glaucoma. That’s also lymphatic issues and kidney ci, stagnation, and myopia, nearsightedness, that umaine emotion is fear related to kidneys. So there’s so many connections with the kidneys and eyes and some of the things that we use in our practice is colyton color therapy. If you look at different colors, like the green, blue, green blue, that stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, it calms you down. If you wear a lens prescription, that say based on your focusing, we call it a homeopathic lens prescription that stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. You know, in fact, when the adrenals are working harder, you’re going to have more light sensitivity because the pupils are going to stay dilated, we call the Alpha Omega response, and almost all my patients are coming in in their sensitive delight. Their cortisol levels are off the charts, their adrenals are overworking. So some of the foods and ingredients that I recommend would be things like lutein, zeaxanthin, acid astaxanthin, these are the carotenoids. They’re so important in feeding the retina, goji berries, green tea extract, the omega three fatty acids really important glutathione, vitamin C. So I guess in my perspective, I use the eyes as a barometer on what’s going on in the internal organs, the kidneys, the liver, the spleen, the gallbladder, and then I treat accordingly. One last point, the retina is made up of a sea of micro capillaries, and folks have been talking about blood pressure. And so we can see in the retina very early on, if there’s vascular disease, hypertensive retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy, and then we can apply holistic ways. I don’t like to use pharmaceuticals or surgery as a way to rebalance a person using the eyes as the entry point. I’m Dr. Sam, and I’m out. 04:36Thank you for listening. Glaucoma! Blindness! Pharmaceutical eyedrops! Laser surgery! In this episode, I offer 3 new complementary, integrative strategies to neutralize this vascular disease. Also, please sign up for my newsletter to stay up on all my latest offerings! https://www.drsamberne.com SUMMARY KEYWORDSglaucoma, resveratrol, optic nerve, ingredients, protects, retina, eyes, coleus, ai, important, clarity, called, herbal remedy, abnormal blood vessels, Spotify, shortlist, wanting, mitochondria, reduce, organ meats 00:05Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm now to the latest I clarity episode. Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to welcome you to another AI clarity podcast. So today’s show I want to talk to you about glaucoma. And we know that glaucoma is a silent disease. We don’t even know that we have it unless we go to our doctor and he or she measures our pressure looks at our visual fields and examines the optic nerve health. Now in many other video blogs, I’ve talked about important ingredients that help neutralize some of the glaucoma affects you know, like omega three fatty acids, Tarin, bilberry, gingko. These are all important for optic nerve health. The key in glaucoma is protecting your optic nerve health. But today, I want to give you three ingredients that maybe are not on your shortlist. These are all natural, that could be added to your glaucoma regimen. So the first is called coleus forskohlii II. Now, this is an herbal remedy, not many people know about it. So it’s plant based. And in some very small studies that have been done, it can bring your eye pressure down three or four points. I’ve been using it for years as a support mechanism to help people bring their AI pressures down. So it is one that I would highly recommend for you. Again, it’s called coleus forskohlii ai. Alright, my number two, little bit off the radar is something called resveratrol. And this amazing ingredient can help with the blood circulation, especially in the tiny blood vessels in the retina. It helps reduce oxidative stress. And there’s one other thing that it does, it’s helpful and that it reduces this tendency for the growth of abnormal blood vessels. And these abnormal blood vessels that sometimes grow in the retina. do so because the retinas so starved. So the retina is trying to produce these blood vessels, but they’re so weak, that creates a lot of hemorrhaging. It creates a lot of edema. And we see this a lot in wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy. And the medical term which you may have heard of is called angiogenesis. So resveratrol can help reduce the angiogenesis This is powerful, especially if you’re dealing with wet AMD. And you’re not wanting to do the injections anymore. But it’s also helpful for glaucoma because it helps with the ocular flow. Remember, glaucoma is a vascular disease. In fact, there’s some research that says it starts in the brain, and then it moves into the eyes. So whatever it is, things that you can do to boost your oxygenation and your hydration in those tiny micro capillary blood vessels. And resveratrol does that. 04:02I recommend about 150 milligrams per day of resveratrol if you’re going to try it. Alright, and my number three potent ingredient for glaucoma is something called co q 10. Most of you have heard of this. And it is a neuro protector protects the nerves, the nervous system or neurological health, which of course our eyes our retina or optic nerve is part of so when you take co q 10 you’re doing something else that’s positive and that is you are supporting mitochondria function. And we know in mitochondria function, the better the mitochondria working, the more it produces ATP, which helps nutrient absorption gets rid of oxidative stress reduces inflammation. So if you can find any agent that improves mitochondria function, jump on it, it slows the aging process down, it’s going to give you more energy. Alright, some other things that COQ10 does is it protects us against over sun exposure. You know, I’m really into getting 30 to 60 minutes of natural sunlight every day, but at the same time, it’s important to protect your eyes from too much sun. And the same goes for our screen time. LCDs televisions, all that blue light, especially after 6pm if you’re concerned with the blue light, you’ve got glaucoma, I would add co q 10 to my shortlist. Now, if you’re not wanting to take a supplement, and by the way, the average dose I would start with is about 100 milligrams a day. But the food sources of CO q 10 would be things like salmon, tuna, or

If you have been diagnosed with cataracts and are contemplating surgery, listen to this episode first! SUMMARY KEYWORDScataracts, glutathione, thistle, clarity, liver, ingredients, spice, Spotify, melatonin, anti-inflammatory agent, holistic, glutathione levels, antioxidants, podcast, number, health, milk, macular, Sam, boost 00:05Hello, everyone, its Dr. Hey everybody, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to welcome you to another AI clarity podcast. So today I’m going to talk briefly about what are some say unusual ingredients natural that you could use to boost your lens health. So let’s say you’ve been diagnosed with a cataract, and you’re doing some of the things I’ve suggested like glutathione and vitamin C. And lutein, zeaxanthin, astaxanthin may be wearing some blue blockers using the eyedrops. What else is out there? So I’m going to go through three ingredients that maybe you haven’t heard of as it relates to lens health. So let’s jump in. Number one on my list is melatonin. In fact, melatonin helps increase glutathione levels. Now another broadcast video blogs, I’ve talked about the importance of glutathione as it relates to lens health. In fact, there was a research study done that says low glutathione levels, higher risk of developing cataracts. So taking one to three milligrams of melatonin before bedtime can help increase glutathione levels. My number two ingredient is milk thistle and milk thistle contains antioxidants. It’s an anti-inflammatory agent and it also helps boost glutathione now another aspect that I love about milk thistle is that it can help as a liver cleanser. And we know in Chinese medicine, the liver rolls the eyes. When you clean up your liver, your eyesight clears up. So doing a week or two I like to use a tincture of the milk thistle. Number one it’s going to help the glutathione on levels and number two more importantly, it’s going to clean up your liver. Alright and my last superfood for cataracts is the famous spice called saffron. This is a golden colored, pungent spice. It is filled with antioxidants. And it has been shown to be helpful for retinal circulation, macular health but it’s also great for diabetic retinopathy and cataracts. So that’s my show for today. I want to thank you so much for tuning in. Until next time, take care. 03:38Thank you for listening. I hope you learned something from the EyeClarity podcast show today. One of the most effective treatments I have developed is called: The Eye Protocol. I use a series of essential oils that help improve a person’s circulation, oxygenation, and detoxification processes in and around the eyes . In this episode, you get to hear a part of an Aromatherapy presentation that I taught during week 4 of my Advanced Vision Exploration Seminar. SUMMARY KEYWORDSessential oil, fennel, eyes, supports, vision, laurel leaf, oil, warmer, burning, hydrating, temples, put, feeling, clarity, carrot seed, part, seed, tissue, work, carrier oil 00:05Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my Eye Clarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm. Now to the latest I clarity episode. So tonight, we’re going to work with five foundational essential oils. If you have them, that’s great. If you don’t have them, you can just listen to the presentation, you’re part of the field, you’re going to get it anyway. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to go through the kind of the informational part, and then I’m going to do a demonstration. So, the first one we’re going to work with is called sweet fennel. This is part of my I protocol that I’ve developed, and fennel or sweet fennel, we get it from the seeds. So, if you think of a seed, it’s the beginning. It’s the birthing, it’s it’s the start of something new. And so, the fennel, when you apply it, the opportunities you’re going to get the energetic of, of new birth, death, rebirth, death rebirth, let’s say you’re exploring your vision because we’re going to be working around your face and eyes, that the fennel is the first oil that you are going to apply that hopefully is going to open your vision. It’s a warm and I kind of classify the oils as young which is hot, and yen which is cool. This would be a yen plus you’re going to put it on and you’re going to feel a little warmth, but it’s Hardy. It has feathery leaves. It’s an ancient herb. They’ve used it back in Rome, Greece, India, Egypt. One of the main ways phenol has been used as it helps support digestive and stomach health. It invigorates the kidney and spleen. It helps with our self-expression. So many times, when we use these essential oils, they don’t only affect us physically, but they may affect us spiritually. And this is the number one essential oil we’re going to use in the eye protocol which I’ll show you in a few minutes. Essential Oil number two is called carrot seed. carrot seed is great for the skin. It’s also from dried seed parts. So, you get two seeds here. Change, newness beginnings, birth. It’s a muscle relaxant. It’s a blood purifier. It supports the gallbladder. This one is slightly warmer than the fennel and I’ll explain to you how to apply it but it’s essential oil number two. Essential Oil number three is Frankincense. And this comes from the resin of a small tree. For many of you, you know that it is ancient. It’s been talked about and read about in the Egyptian the Persian, the Hebrew, the Roman, the Greek civilizations, and it supports a balance of your nervous system. It’s also a major visual opener. It helps stimulate stagnating energy, it’s uplifting, it’s freeing, and it’s yet there’s no plus to it. So, it’s a little cooler than the first two and its application number three. Number four is Laurel leaf. This comes from an evergreen shrub or tree, and it comes from the leaves and branches. Those of you that have been to Greece, there’s a place where you can go where Apollo was. LAUREL leaf was dedicated around the temples for poetry for prophecy. I call it the queen of the lymph system. It really supports our lymphatic health. It’s very uplifting and sparks our inner vision. It is also very in, and I’ll talk about where some of the best places are to apply Laurel leaf. 05:03And then the last one is a hydrosol Helichrysum and what is the hydrosol? Well in the steam distillation process that I talked about a few minutes ago, where you’re distilling all the plant materials hydrosol hydrosols, contain the essential oils, but they’re far less concentrated. So, when you boil, you’re boiling the water that creates the distillation process, the hydrosols are traveling through the steam, and either part of it is going to go directly to the essential oil, there’s another part of the distiller where that steam is going to carry the essential oil and the water. This is the hydrosol. And it has the frequency of the essential oil for a fraction of the cost because Helichrys

Do you ever suffer dizziness, double vision, sea sickness, or balance issues? In this episode, I discuss the relationship between the vestibular system and the visual system. They are so intertwined! If you want to learn more how the the brain, the eyes, and the vestibular system play together, please enjoy this presentation. SUMMARY KEYWORDSvestibular system, eyes, vestibular, brain, cerebellum, important, peripheral vision, called, astigmatism, seconds, stigmatism, head, inner ear, movements, boost, underactive, balance, create, part, week 00:05Good evening. Good. Good afternoon. Good morning, wherever you are. I’d like to welcome you to week number three. And it’s great to be here. I hope that you find tonight’s class. Well, let’s just say informative, exciting, and eye opening. So, adventures in Gravity, this is a very important topic. And I want to spend some time discussing the connection between our inner ear and our eye, the ear eye connection or better known as the vestibular visual connection. So, the vestibular system is part of our, our ear auditory anatomy, and specifically, we’re talking about the inner ear, the inner ear is critically important in our ability to orient in the world. And it is very connected to our eyes. And a lot of the situations that you have going on, could be at some level connected to the vestibular issues that we all go through. So, in this first slide, I define the vestibular system as the inner ear, and it’s made up of the like little stones or bones. In the inner ear, we have the labyrinth, and we have the ear receptors. And it’s these ear receptors that send information via the auditory nerve to a part of the brain called the cerebellum. And the cerebellum is also known as the little brain. And the cerebellum is responsible for our coordination, our precision and timing of movements, as well as motor learning. And if you watch the video that I sent you, on week three, there’s a bilateral integration, where you’re moving your arms and your legs and your head in your eyes. That is activating the connection between your vestibular system and your cerebellum. Now, part of the receptors that send information from the auditory nerve also go to another part of the brain called the survival brain now the survival brain. We touched into that in week one with the Moro reflex, the starfish, the morrow is part of our startle response. And the brainstem is the part of our brain that helps us navigate the fight flight freeze response. And you may recall that in the hierarchy of brain function, we start off operating from our reptilian brain, the survival brain, then we move to the cerebellum. And then finally, we move to the frontal brain called the cerebral cortex. So if we move on the receptors in these two brain centers, meaning the cerebellum and the brainstem actually then send information both to the eye muscles and to our cerebral cortex, now the function of the cerebral cortex. It’s been known as our higher brain center, and it’s designed for things like perception, sensation, memory, associations, thought, and voluntary physical action. Some have coined it the executive brain function, but you can see how involved the vestibular system is 04:45in our overall brain health. Now the vestibular system is a sensory system that is responsible for providing our brain with information about Motion, head position, spatial orientation, that’s our depth perception. It’s also involved in other motor functions that help us stabilize our head and body during movement. It’s also important in our balance and our posture. That’s the vestibular system is essential for our normal movement in equilibrium. And just a side note here, because some of you have asked questions about a stigmatism that a lot of times a stigmatism occurs when there is an irregularity in our posture, or head position, so let’s say we, we might tilt our head to one side or the other, or we have a tight set of neck muscles. This can be the start of astigmatism, that will show up in the eye. And of course, then the eye doctor is correcting you for the astigmatism. So, it’s embedding that that postural dysfunction that we started moving into. So that’s creating that irregular blur, where the muscles in the eye are not working equally and one set of muscles may be working more than another and this creates the cylinder, the axis of astigmatism in our visual field. So, this, again, is another validation on how a stigmatism many times starts in the body. And the eye doctor is just embedding it in the eye by measuring it in giving you a lens. But the vestibular system is very connected to us to our overall eye prescription. I’ll get to that in a minute. There’s a test that practitioners use, I’ve used it quite a bit. It’s called the vestibular ocular reflex test. And this test measures the hook

In this episode, I give the listeners a glimpse into a private session I offered to a patient who has reduced her myopia and astigmatism by 50% and wants the advanced set of vision therapy exercises to be able to reduce her prescription completely. Yes, you can reduce your dependency on your contacts and glasses! Here is the transcript for the show. Enjoy! Podcast 126 Fri, 4/23 4:08PM • 36:59 SUMMARY KEYWORDS eye, metronome, eyepatch, chart, practice, beats, left, arm, leg, letter, exercises, vision, limbs, clarity, micromanage, glasses, read, myopia, moving, walk 00:05 Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my I clarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm. Now to the latest I clarity episode. In today’s show, I am going to present a session that I did with a patient recently who is reducing her myopia and astigmatism. And I’m giving your more advanced exercises today that include the eye brain body, and they’re going to require her to be able to focus in a more expanded way. So I hope you enjoy this session. Take care when I enrolled in vision therapy, so I was in your shoes, I had a similar prescription as you did, was even stronger. And the doctor that I went to see made me commit for a year. And he gave me some practices, some vision practices that I had to do every day. And they were very much two things whole body. So how to use my whole body engage my whole body with my vision. And the second part is that the exercises were all done with an eyepatch. Okay. And his theory, his thesis was that by using an eyepatch, when the eyes were good when the eyes are so different. So mine were different to like yours, the eye patch disrupts the normal functioning of how the The eyes are different. And you kind of get flatlined when that happens. So the patches of this pattern interrupter, the other thing is you’re doing the practice, at the you’re doing the practice the same amount of time with each eye. Even though you might think one eye is stronger, like the right eye or the left eye is weaker whenever, what because you’re basing it on clarity, and blur. But each eye gets the same amount of time. And you’re then on a journey. When you do these practices, because they’re not mechanical at all. They’re very much Mind Body oriented, and there’s a mindfulness. So it’s an open ended practice, where you’re using the practice, to deepen your self awareness around your habits, patterns conditioning, as it relates to the mental, emotional, energetic and physical parts of your eyes. So it’s going to be very informative, if you take that attitude. And so just to finish with me, I went down this, this track with him. And it took me about six months. And one day I woke up, and I started driving, and I could see the road signs. And I remember right before that I had shared with him I was really frustrated. Because I wasn’t reaching my goal of getting rid of the need for my glasses. I was the reason why I went to him. And he told me that with that attitude, I would never get there. And he he said that the only way that I might have a chance would be to completely let go of the goal of getting rid of my glasses. And I couldn’t do that that was very hard for me because I was very goal oriented and most people that are near sighted have that goal oriented streak. 04:38 And so it was it became a real practice a real metaphor to be detached about the goal. Like I can have the goal and then let it go. Have a go Let it go up. I’m sure you’re well aware of that, that practice. So in this set of exercises that you’re going to be doing. The clarity and the balance between the two eyes is something that’s going to sneak up on you. It’s going to surprise you when they when you least expected. But in the in the meantime, while you’re you’re toiling away at the practices, you’re learning a lot about your balance, your movement, your posture, your emotions, and other things as well. So that it becomes an inquiry into, well, what am I feeding my eyes? mentally, you know, what am I feeding my eyes emotionally? And, you know, I thought I knew that answer. But as I kept doing the practices, more and more God peeled away, and I could really vulnerably see what I was doing to myself. So I want to preface these practices by saying they’re very potent. They’re very simple. And we’ll rotate them. So that I don’t want you to be doing one practice. For a long time, I’d like you to do it for two weeks, and then put it aside, and then start practice number two, do that for two weeks, put it aside. And I’m going to give you one practi
