Beyond the Eyes: How Neuroplasticity Rewires Your Vision
Your vision is not just in your eyes—it’s shaped by your brain, your body, and your nervous system. In this episode, Dr. Sam Berne explores the deeper truth of neuroplasticity and how your visual system can change, adapt, and reorganize at any age. Drawing from decades of clinical experience and somatic vision work, he explains why traditional eye care often misses the bigger picture—and what actually creates lasting change. You’ll discover: How neuroplasticity influences vision improvement The role of the nervous system and “fluid body” in seeing clearly Why stress and survival patterns narrow perception How shifting from fight-flight-freeze into regulation expands visual awareness This is not a fix-it model. This is a reorientation of how you see—and how you live. If you’re ready to go deeper, join Dr. Berne’s upcoming live experience: 👉 Beyond the Eyes: Rewiring Vision Through the Body and Brain https://www.drsamberne.com/workshop/beyond-the-eyes-rewiring-vision-through-the-body-and-brain-online-course/ 4-week live online course Starts April 11th $297 per person
When the Eyes Disagree: A Hidden Pattern in Vision Problems
What if your eyes stop working together unnoticed? In this episode of The Berne Podcast, Dr. Sam Berne shares a powerful case from a recent Vision Intensive that reveals a hidden, often-overlooked pattern in vision problems—what he calls “split vision.” This pattern can show up as: declining peripheral awareness depth perception issues imbalance and instability frustration with “normal” eye exams that offer no real answers You’ll hear how one patient—after being told “there’s nothing more we can do”—discovered that her eyes were functioning in completely different ways: one eye over-focusing and gripping • the other disengaging and under-participating Dr. Berne explains how this binocular imbalance affects not just eyesight but also the entire nervous system, spatial orientation, and a sense of safety in the body. He also explores why progressive lenses, while commonly prescribed, can sometimes make these patterns worse: “For some visual systems, progressive lenses can function like a straitjacket.” You’ll learn about a simple but powerful intervention—the Magic Eye exercise—and how it helped restore cooperation between the eyes and awaken peripheral awareness. But this episode goes far beyond the eyes. Dr. Berne shares a whole-body model of vision, highlighting how visual function relates to: nutrition and metabolic health Liver function and retinal support the body’s ability to relax and perceive 🔑 Key Takeaway Vision is not just about clarity. It’s about how your brain organizes space, movement, and perception. And when the eyes begin working together again, the world doesn’t just look different— …it feels different. 📩 Call to Action If you’re interested in exploring your own vision, email [email protected] with the subject line: Perception. “When AI Gets Vision Wrong: The Hidden Brain System Most Eye Exams Ignore”
Why do stronger glasses sometimes make vision worse? In this episode of The Berne Podcast, Dr. Sam Berne explores a fascinating case that reveals the limits of AI-driven eye exams. Modern autorefractors and artificial intelligence systems optimize one variable: visual acuity. But the human visual system prioritizes something far more important: safety and spatial stability. Through the story of Catherine, Dr. Berne explains how yoked prisms can rebalance the brain’s spatial orientation system and restore nervous system regulation. Topics discussed in this episode: • AI refraction and automated eye exams • Right-eye suppression and trauma patterns • The neuroscience of the superior colliculus • Peripheral vision and nervous system regulation • Why some vision therapies can dysregulate patients • How yoked prisms shift spatial perception This episode reveals why vision is not just optical — it is neurological, emotional, and spatial. If you’d like to explore this work further: Dr. Berne is currently offering: • Perceptual Cohort (begins March 18) • Private Vision Intensives (limited availability) • New Mexico Retreat – September For information email: 📩 [email protected]

Perceptual Ecology: Rebooting Vision Through Light, Touch & Scent
“Vision does not fail in isolation. It reorganizes based on the ecology it lives in.”–Dr. Sam Berne In this excerpt from the Vision Reboot Seminar, Dr. Sam Berne explores vision through the lens of Perceptual Ecology — the understanding that seeing is not merely an optical event, but a whole-body, nervous-system mediated process. Vision changes when its ecology changes. In this episode, we examine: • The therapeutic role of red light as biological signaling • How to select appropriate red light wavelengths and devices • Why acupuncture influences visual processing through meridian-nervous system pathways • Craniosacral therapy and its impact on ocular motility and fluid dynamics • The importance of lymphatic stimulation for retinal and orbital health • Foundational principles of aromatherapy — scent as neurological regulation Rather than treating isolated symptoms, Perceptual Ecology asks a different question: What environment does your vision live in? Light, touch, breath, scent, circulation, and emotional tone all shape perception. When these elements are supported coherently, vision often reorganizes in unexpected ways. This episode is an invitation to rethink eye health as a living system — responsive, adaptable, ecological. Dr. Berne now works as a Perceptual Educator, offering immersive seminars and private intensives that address the root ecology of perception. Screens from infancy. Online learning as normal. AI as background noise. But what is this doing to their nervous systems — and their perception? In this episode, I talk about how Generation Alpha is growing up visually overstimulated yet perceptually underdeveloped — and why the future of health lies not in more information, but in embodied regulation. Through the lens of FVIB™ (Functional Vision Integrative Body), I discuss why breathing, movement, posture, primitive reflex integration, and visual awareness are essential tools for raising regulated humans in a dysregulated world. This is not about fear of technology. It’s about reclaiming perception. Welcome to The Berne Podcast. Today I want to talk about Generation Alpha — the children born roughly from 2010 onward — and why I believe they are the most neurologically challenged and potentially the most perceptually gifted generation we’ve ever seen. BREATH And I want to connect this to my work as a perceptual educator and the framework of FVIB™ — Functional Vision Integrative Body. Because what we’re seeing isn’t just an attention issue. It’s a regulation issue. Who is Generation Alpha? Generation Alpha is the first generation born into: • iPads from infancy • streaming as normal • online learning • algorithm and content • AI integration They have never known a world without screens. And here’s what concerns me — not from a fear perspective — but from a physiological one: Their nervous systems are developing inside constant visual stimulation. That changes perception. The Core Problem: Overstimulation + Under-Regulation These children are: • visually hyper-stimulated • vestibularly under-challenged • physically less integrated • breathing more shallowly • spending less time in horizon-based environments And when you combine that with reduced nitric oxide production from chronic mouth breathing and indoor living, you begin to see: • attention instability • anxiety • sensory overwhelm • learning challenges • sleep dysregulation This is not pathology. It is adaptation. But adaptation comes with cost. Why This Is a Perceptual Issue In FVIB™, we look at: • eye-body coordination • primitive reflex integration • breathing patterns • lymphatic flow • posture • light exposure • nervous system tone Vision is not just eyesight. Vision is how the brain organizes experience. And if a child’s visual system is constantly locked into near-field screen engagement, the brain adapts accordingly. Peripheral awareness narrows. Breathing becomes shallow. Sympathetic tone increases. The body lives in mild threat mode. Nitric Oxide + Oxygenation Let me connect something important here. When children: • breathe through the mouth • live indoors • have minimal nasal breathing • experience chronic stress Nitric oxide levels tend to drop. Nitric oxide is essential for: • vasodilation • oxygen delivery • cerebral perfusion • immune regulation Low nitric oxide doesn’t “cause” disease — but it contributes to poor oxygen delivery to brain tissue. Over time that stresses cognition. You see this in sleep apnea patterns, attention instability, and even early metabolic changes. Breathing matters. Nasal breathing matters. Movement matters. What Generation Alpha Actually Needs Not more content. Not more apps. They need: • horizon-based visual engagement—let me explain WHAT IS Horizon-Based Vision Engagement (HBVE) Horizon-based vision engagement simply means letting your eyes rest on far-distance, wide-field views— the natural horizon — instead of locking into close, narrow, screen-based focus. Think: mountains, ocean, desert, long trails, ski slopes, open fields. Not staring — soft, panoramic seeing. Why it matters (in plain physiology) When you engage the horizon: 🧠 Your brain shifts out of “task mode” Near vision (screens, books, phones) activates focused attention and sympathetic tone. Far vision activates global awareness and parasympathetic regulation. Translation: your system feels safer. 👀 Your visual system rebalances Horizon viewing: • relaxes the eye muscles • restores peripheral awareness • improves eye–body coordination • reduces visual fatigue This is the opposite of tunnel vision. 🌬 Your breathing deepens naturally Wide
Why Relaxation Sometimes Makes You Feel Worse (And What Real Regulation Actually Is)
Welcome to The Berne Podcast. I’m Dr. Sam Berne. Today I want to talk about something that surprises a lot of people. Why do some people feel worse when they try to relax? They meditate. They lie down. They do breathwork. They get massage. And instead of feeling better, they feel: • dizzy • foggy • emotional • disconnected • heavy • or strangely unsettled Most people assume that means something is wrong with them. But very often, it doesn’t. It means their nervous system doesn’t need relaxation. It needs regulation. Those are not the same thing. ⸻ SEGMENT 1 — RELAXATION VS REGULATION Let’s clarify this first. Relaxation usually means: • slowing down • becoming passive • reducing effort • letting go Regulation is different. Regulation means: • organized input • coherent movement • balanced sensory information • a felt sense of safety • connection between body and brain Relaxation can sometimes lead to collapse. Regulation leads to coherence. And for sensitive nervous systems, collapse feels terrible. ⸻ SEGMENT 2 — WHY SOME PEOPLE FEEL WORSE WHEN THEY “RELAX” Here’s what I see clinically. Many people are living in chronic sympathetic activation — always on, always alert, always processing. So when they suddenly stop: • lie still • close their eyes • slow their breathing their system doesn’t experience relief. It experiences loss of orientation. The brain loses reference points. The vestibular system gets confused. The body doesn’t know where it is in space. That can show up as: • dizziness • drifting sensations • emotional flooding • fatigue • or a sense of disappearing That’s not healing. That’s nervous-system disorganization. ⸻ SEGMENT 3 — SENSITIVE SYSTEMS NEED ORGANIZED INPUT This is especially true for people who are: • intuitive • perceptually sensitive • highly empathic • creative • or have spent years taking care of others These nervous systems don’t respond well to passive interventions. They need: • gentle rhythmic movement • bilateral coordination • distance vision • light resistance • agency — meaning you choose the pace In other words: They need participation, not collapse. They need engagement, not shutdown. ⸻ SEGMENT 4 — COMMON EXAMPLES You might recognize this if you’ve ever: • felt worse after yoga • gotten foggy after meditation • felt disconnected after massage • crashed after a “relaxing” weekend • or become emotional when you finally slow down That doesn’t mean those practices are bad. It means they weren’t matched to your nervous system at that moment. Healing is not about forcing calm. It’s about restoring organization. ⸻ SEGMENT 5 — WHAT REAL REGULATION FEELS LIKE Real regulation usually feels like: • warmth returning to your body • clearer thinking • easier breathing • smoother movement • a sense of being present • feeling more like yourself Not floaty. Not collapsed. Not spaced out. More embodied. More here. That’s coherence. ⸻ SEGMENT 6 — PRACTICAL GUIDANCE Here’s something simple you can start noticing: After something you do — movement, therapy, rest, or even a conversation — ask yourself: Do I feel more embodied… or more disconnected? Do I feel clearer… or foggier? Do I feel more myself… or less? Your nervous system gives feedback immediately. That’s your compass. And here’s an important principle: If something costs you regulation, it’s not aligned. No matter how “good” it’s supposed to be. ⸻ SEGMENT 7 — THIS IS NOT ABOUT FIXING YOUR BODY I don’t believe in fixing bodies. I believe in restoring relationship. Relationship between: • your nervous system • your movement • your perception • your environment Healing happens when the system feels safe enough to reorganize itself. Not when we impose calm from the outside. ⸻ CLOSING + INVITATION If you’ve been feeling confused by your symptoms… If relaxation hasn’t been helping… If you sense that your nervous system needs something different… This is exactly the kind of work I do privately. In Vision Intensives, I help people restore nervous-system coherence, perceptual clarity, and embodied regulation. Not through quick fixes. Through listening to how your system actually works. And remember: Your body isn’t failing you. It’s communicating. Trust that.

You’ll learn how vision, motion, and nervous system safety are deeply connected, why relaxation can trigger protective shutdown in sensitive systems, and how gentle, choice-based sensory work can help restore stability. This episode reframes dizziness as a perceptual and neurological pattern — not weakness — and offers a new understanding of how the brain and eyes work together to create a sense of safety. Keywords vision, dizziness, brainstem, nervous system, relaxation, perception, sensory input, eye health, somatic movement, meditation Summary In this episode, Dr. Sam Berne explores the intricate relationship between vision, the nervous system, and the experience of dizziness. He discusses how relaxation can sometimes lead to feelings of dizziness due to the brainstem’s protective mechanisms. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding the brain’s predictions about safety and movement, and how vision plays a crucial role in regulating our nervous system. Dr. Berne offers insights into practical tools for improving vision and overall well-being. Takeaways The vision intensive helps explore your vision and nervous system. Relaxation can sometimes trigger dizziness due to brainstem responses. Dizziness may be a protective mechanism of the nervous system. The brainstem assesses safety and control in movement. Vision is interconnected with bodily sensations and safety. Meditation can lead to feelings of dizziness if not approached correctly. Gentle sensory input can help stabilize vision and movement. The Perception Lineage — And Why My Work Is Different
Sam Berne (00:01.486) Hey everyone, welcome to the podcast today. So the title of this podcast is the perception lineage and why my work is different. I’d like to address a question that keeps coming up. Where does my work sit in relation to David Abram, Ian McIlchrist, Merleau Ponte and indigenous perception traditions? I’m clearly in the same territory, but I also do something very different. I don’t just describe perception. I restore it. Here’s my main premise. Perception is retrainable. It’s relational and it’s resolvable through our nervous system. Vision isn’t just optical. Vision is the nervous system. organizing itself around reality and it does so through the body. David Abram is a perceptual poet. He re-enchants the sensory system. He reminds us that the world is alive, responsive and participatory. But he’s not doing nervous system rehabilitation. He restores meaning. I restore capacity. McGillchrist is the master diagnostician for restoring attention. He shows us how the culture collapses perception into a narrow focus. Sam Berne (01:50.05) And he gives us the map of cultural injury. My work takes the next step when somebody asks, okay, how do I get my depth back? Merleau-Ponty gives us our truth back that perception is embodied. He says it’s not just a mental construct, but he doesn’t give any practices. My work takes the theory of embodiment and puts it into different practices, your biology, your physiology, your ocular motility, your perception, your memory and your nervous system safety. Indigenous traditions are relational. They understand the field. They can look at the big picture, the wide vision. Respectfully, I’m not here to take their symbols or rituals. I’m here to restore your biology, which makes perception relational again. Three-dimensional vision, slow nonlinear movement. Breath. safety and sensory reciprocity. Here’s the cleanest way to say it. Abram restores the sacredness of perception. Sam Berne (03:25.666) McIlchrist emphasizes the importance of attention. Merleau-Ponty emphasizes the importance of embodiment. Indigenous cultures restore relational seeing. And I restore the perceptual field through the nervous system. And this makes vision alive again. I observed that vision is a lived experience through the body. If you’re experiencing your vision tense, braced, rushed, defended, tight, narrow, you’re not broken. You’re describing a perceptual field that’s under stress. Just know that your vision can be restored. So that’s our show for today. I want to thank you so much for tuning in. Remember, vision is more than eyesight. It’s a whole body experience.
Artificial Intelligence in 2026: Why Perception — Not Intelligence — Will Decide the Future AI
🎙️“Welcome to The Berne Podcast. I’m Dr. Sam Berne, and this is a space where we explore perception, technology, health, and what it really means to be human in a rapidly changing world. This isn’t about trends for the sake of trends — it’s about understanding how our nervous systems, our vision, and our decision-making are being shaped right now. In today’s episode, I want to share my 2026 view on Artificial Intelligence — not from hype or fear, but from the lens of perception. Because the real question isn’t how intelligent AI is becoming. It’s how well we are perceiving while using it.” 1. Framing the Conversation (2–3 minutes) “Most conversations about AI focus on power, speed, and intelligence. But intelligence alone has never guaranteed wisdom. In my work with vision and nervous systems, I’ve seen something very clear: When perception is distorted, even highly intelligent systems make poor decisions. That applies to humans — and it applies to how humans use AI.” 2. The Core Shift Coming in 2026 (3–4 minutes) “By 2026, AI will be everywhere: • embedded in workflows • decision-support systems • creative tools • diagnostics • education • business strategy t AI in 2026: Where It’s Actually Showing Up (and Why Perception Matters) 1. Embedded in Workflows “By 2026, AI won’t feel like a separate tool you open. It’ll be embedded directly into workflows. Email platforms will suggest responses. CRMs will predict next actions. Scheduling systems will optimize time automatically. Content systems will pre-shape messaging. The danger here isn’t dependence — it’s unquestioned momentum. When AI is embedded, decisions happen faster than perception can catch up. And if your nervous system is already in urgency, you stop asking: ‘Is this actually the right move?’ AI will move the river faster. Perception determines whether you’re steering or just being carried.” 2. Decision-Support Systems “Decision-support systems sound helpful — and they can be. AI will analyze patterns, risks, probabilities, and outcomes faster than any human team. But here’s what I’ve seen over decades: Under stress, humans outsource judgment too quickly. If perception is narrowed, AI outputs become authority instead of input. Good decision-making doesn’t come from more data. It comes from contextual awareness. In 2026, the leaders who thrive will use AI as a second nervous system — not a replacement for discernment.” 3. Creative Tools “AI is already reshaping creativity. Writing, music, video, design — all accelerated. But creativity doesn’t come from speed. It comes from signal. When perception is overstimulated, creativity becomes derivative. AI makes it easy to generate — but harder to feel what matters. The future creative edge won’t be who produces the most. It’ll be who can still sense resonance, timing, and emotional truth. AI can generate content. Only humans can perceive meaning.” 4. Diagnostics “In diagnostics — medical, behavioral, business — AI will be astonishingly good at pattern recognition. But diagnosis without perception becomes mislabeling. I’ve watched this happen in healthcare for years. AI can identify correlations. It cannot feel context, trauma, adaptation, or resilience. Without perceptual intelligence, diagnostics risk becoming faster ways to miss the point. The best use of AI in diagnostics will be as a mirror, not a verdict.” 5. Education “Education will be transformed. AI tutors. Personalized learning paths. Instant feedback. Adaptive testing. But learning doesn’t happen when the nervous system is overloaded. Perception narrows under pressure. Curiosity collapses. Integration stops. The real question in 2026 education won’t be: ‘How fast can we teach?’ It’ll be: ‘Can the learner’s nervous system stay open while learning?’ Education that ignores perception will produce information — not wisdom.” 6. Business Strategy “AI will increasingly shape business strategy. Market predictions. Customer behavior modeling. Operational optimization. But strategy isn’t just analysis. It’s orientation. Under stress, organizations mistake speed for clarity. AI amplifies this. The most successful businesses won’t be the most automated. They’ll be the most perceptually literate. They’ll know when to pause. When to widen the field. When to let things dissolve instead of forcing resolution. AI will reward those who understand timing — not just data.” Closing Bridge Line (Use Before Your Final Point) “So across workflows, decisions, creativity, diagnostics, education, and strategy… AI doesn’t eliminate human responsibility. It magnifies it. The question isn’t: ‘What can AI do?’ It’s: ‘Can we perceive clearly enough to use it well?’” If you want next, I can: • compress this into a 12-minute solo episode • create 1–2 minute clip scripts for LinkedIn or Instagram • or write a second episode: “Why AI Makes Nervous System Regulation a Business Skill” Just say where you want to take it. The novelty will be gone. What will matter is how AI is
The Nervous System’s Timeline (And Why We Keep Ignoring It)
Join our upcoming events: Aromatherapy Certification Online Course: January 28th The Perceptual Field Online Course: March 18th Beyond the Eyes, Vision, Perception and the Nervous System–an -in-person retreat: September 10th Link: https://www.drsamberne.com/workshop/ Sam Berne (00:00.078) Hey everyone, welcome to the program today. So I want to talk about slowing down is not what you think it is and I’m referring to your pace, your nervous system, your stress and your perceptual fields. talking to people over the years, people think slowing down is collapsing at night watching TV scrolling on your Instagram or maybe taking some high-powered aerobic class at a fitness center, which could blow off some temporary stress or even doing some cathartic therapies, which in the moment you have a release, but it becomes very addictive. And there isn’t really a long-term nervous system reset or regulation. And what I’m talking about is long-term self-regulation of the nervous system. It’s not about effort. It’s about pace. You know, technology is so much part of our culture and we’re always going to the speed of our email of social media. And when we do this, we disconnect from our biological rhythms. Our nervous system has evolved from cycles, pauses and variations. And even though we’re rewarded for speed efficiency and productivity, it’s having a major toll in all walks of life, whether it’s health business or relationships. True self-regulation is not about collapsing withdrawing. It’s not passive. Sam Berne (01:48.32) It’s an intentional shift in our orientation. When pace exceeds our biological rhythms, our perception narrows. When we narrow our perceptual fields, our decision-making becomes more difficult. Our relationships become unmanageable and our health tends to spiral down. Technology increases our speed and we lose context timing. and we see less alternative options. In my work, what I observe is that when our peripheral vision and our perception opens, patterns become visible and our decisions become better. Our vision isn’t just about our eyes, but it’s driven by our whole body, which influences our nervous system. When we slow down, there’s better communication in the eye brain body chain. Slowing down isn’t doing less. It’s connecting more to your rhythms. When you release the imposed have tos, Perception changes and everything else follows. If this way of working with perception and the nervous system resonates with you, consider joining my online cohort in March or coming to my retreat in California in September. These aren’t about fixing or pushing change. These are about creating conditions. So clarity emerges. Sam Berne (03:36.994) So that’s my podcast for today. Thank you so much for tuning in until next time. Take care.
Vision Is a Nervous System Process—Not a Lens Problem

So I’d like to welcome everybody. I’ve been off for a few weeks, but it’s great to be back on. So if you’ve got questions, you feel free to type them in. Hopefully I’ll get to see them and I want to start off with a couple of announcements. First of all, I’m going to be teaching. A two hour class on April 30th. It’s a Saturday and it will be from 10 AM to 12 noon Mountain Time. It’s one of my classes that people love because it’s going to be on. Well, a lot of different ways to improve your vision through color therapy, aroma therapy. We’re going to. do some eye exercises and I’m going to teach you how to negotiate a healthy prescription of contact lenses or glasses with your eye doctor. That’s always a challenge, especially if you want to improve your vision. There are ways that you can talk to your doctor so that you can get what you need. I’m going to take a couple of questions that people have emailed me and then if we get any questions from from the audience, I’m happy to answer those as well. So the first question that I’m getting tonight is one that I get a lot. It’s on mono vision. And what do I think of mono vision? This is with contact lenses and you know, what are the alternatives if I don’t? like mono vision. So for those of you who don’t know what mono vision is, this is a prescription where the doctor is correcting one eye for distance and one eye for near. If you look at my hands right now, this is kind of the setup. So my right eye is the distance. I my left eye is the near eye. You can see that there is a Sam Berne (02:24.297) a change in the focal distance between your eyes. This actually sets up a couple of scenarios. One scenario is double vision because your focal lengths are different between your two eyes. Let’s say your right eye is corrected for distance and your left eye is corrected for near. What this means is that when you’re driving Your left eye because it’s corrected for near is not engaging with the right eye. So a lot of times the brain shuts off the the eye that you’re not using and this is very disturbing because you’re now you’re now eliminating or at the very least reducing the the integration between your two eyes. So the brain suppresses or shuts off the left eye because it’s the right eye. That’s the driving eye and that the same token if you’re using the computer or reading it’s your left eye that’s carrying the load and the right eye is focused somewhere out at 20 feet, but it can’t come into a near focus. So again, the brain is suppressing the right eye so it reduces or in fact even eliminates the potential of binocular vision. This is disturbing because over time each eye is carrying more of the load than it should be and this can lead to eye strain eye fatigue and eventually it can change the structure the anatomy the tissue of the eye in a way where it can actually even lead To a disease process, maybe things like glaucoma cataracts macular degeneration. So based on this description, it’s obvious that we’re not meant to correct our eyes in different focal distances, even though the doctor may think it’s convenient. It really sets up a situation where you’re going to be experiencing a lot of visual stress. Sam Berne (04:47.63) So it’s always better to correct both eyes for distance. And if you’re near sighted, one of the techniques that you can do is actually ask your doctor to under correct you slightly when you read the distance eye chart. instead of seeing 2015, you could see 2020 or even 2025. But the advantage of that is that your Your eyes are going to be matching in the distance and because you’re under correcting. You’ll be able to read and I have so many patients in their 50s and 60s 70s who are nearsighted by under correcting them a little bit in the distance. They’re able to keep their near vision. The the scenario is is when the eye doctor wants to over correct you for distance and you’ll feel it in your eyes and you can tell him or her. Whoa, this is too strong for me. Then you can. get a slightly reduced prescription in the contacts and you’ll still be able to read without reading glasses. Now in the farsighted side of things, it’s a little trickier. But again, you know, if you do my eye exercises, you can regain your distance vision as a farsighted person and the magnification power that you need up close could be minimal. This is where again, you could use things like pinhole glasses or Do my exercise the minus lens to blur. That’s the opposite lens prescription that a farsighted person would use. You can als
The Perception Trap: Why Leaders Misread Reality Under Stress
Sam Berne (00:00.162) Hey everyone, welcome to the podcast. So the title of this episode is why smart people misread situations when they’re under stress. We’re going to focus on perceptual narrowing urgency versus clarity. Why intelligence fails under pressure. One of the most common misconceptions that I see especially among intelligent and capable people is the idea that clarity improves. When we’re under more pressure, if you’re smart enough, experienced enough, trained enough, you’ll make better decisions under stress. In reality, the opposite is true. Stress doesn’t just affect how you feel. It also affects how you see. In fact, stress alters how you see and when perception changes, interpretation changes. When interpretation changes. Decisions change and that’s where the misread happens quietly confidently and often with serious consequences. Here’s the core observation. I’ve spent decades watching people make decisions in clinical settings and leadership roles in moments where something really matters. What I’ve learned is this intelligence does not protect you from perceptual distortion. In fact, it can make it worse. When the nervous system is under stress, perception narrows, vision narrows, context collapses. The brain shifts from sensing to protecting. This isn’t a failure of character. It’s your biology. Perceptual narrowing explained under stress. The system prioritizes speed over accuracy, certainty over curiosity. action over awareness. That’s efficient. If you’re avoiding threat, it’s disastrous. If you’re navigating complexity, this is why smart people can become rigid when they’re under pressure. Leaders double down instead of stepping back. Urgency gets mistaken for clarity. The system isn’t asking what’s true. It’s asking what’s the fastest way to get rid of discomfort and the answers to those two questions are rarely the same. Sam Berne (02:24.876) Why intelligence fails under pressure? Here’s the uncomfortable part. High intelligence increases confidence, but it also increases distortion. When someone is used to being right, they’re less likely to question what they’re seeing. Even when their nervous system is compromised, the mind becomes a justification machine. It explains the feeling instead of examining the field. That’s how misreads become entrenched not because someone is incapable, but because they’re too inside their perception to notice it is shifted. Here’s a reframe. Clarity is not a function of effort. It’s a function of regulation. When the nervous system is settled, the perception widens more information becomes available. Settle cues reenter your awareness. This is why slowing down. Often refills what urgency obscures not because you’re thinking harder, but because you’re seeing more if there’s one thing I want to leave you with today. It’s this most leadership errors aren’t strategic. They’re perceptual perception is not a fixed trait. It’s a state dependent experience. We understand that we stop asking people to perform better when they’re under pressure. and start creating conditions where clarity can actually emerge. That’s the work not more speed, not more certainty, better seeing in future episodes. I’ll continue naming patterns like this not to fix them, but to make them visible because once something is seen clearly it no longer controls us in the same way.
Gas Permeable Lenses: Smart Myopia Correction, Astigmatism Clarity, and How Not to Overcorrect
Join Dr. Berne’s Aromatherapy Certification Course which starts January 28, 2026. Link to register: https://www.drsamberne.com/workshop/online-aromatherapy-foundations-certification/ In this Q&A episode, Dr. Sam Berne breaks down how gas permeable (GP) lenses can be used strategically—not just to see clearly, but to support healthier visual function over time. You’ll learn why overcorrecting myopia can backfire, how slightly reducing a prescription can help preserve reading ability without glasses, and why GP lenses often provide superior clarity for astigmatism compared to soft lenses. This episode is especially helpful for anyone wearing contact lenses who wants clearer vision without overstraining their eyes, as well as practitioners curious about a more functional approach to refractive correction. KEY TALKING POINTS / Q&A BULLETS Why gas permeable lenses provide clearer optics than soft lenses The hidden downside of overcorrecting myopia How intentional under-correction can support near vision and reduce strain Why GP lenses are often a better choice for astigmatism Who should not wear GP lenses Practical tips for adapting comfortably to GP lenses For even more from Dr. Sam, check out his new exclusive membership where you get access to my content and resources, new information, articles, videos, webinars: https://drsambernesmembership.com/ Keep Up with Dr. Sam Website: https://www.drsamberne.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SamBerneOD/?fref=ts Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/samberneod/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/drsamberne LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drsamberne/ Sam Berne (00:01.219) Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I’m on my morning walk. I received a question from Brent on Instagram about gas permeable contact lenses. So if you’ve been diagnosed with astigmatism gas permeable lenses are the best choice because it’s going to give you the most stable clear eyesight. know, those of you that have astigmatism and you tried soft contact lenses. You will know that your visual acuity is less stable and that’s very very frustrating. In addition gas permeable lenses are made of a material which allows your cornea to breathe the oxygen in. This is so important to reduce things like dry eye syndrome, eye infections and improve your ocular microbiome. You know, that’s the good bacteria in your eyes. So it’s going to give you a healthier eye lymph and immune system by allowing the oxygen to come into your eyes, especially the cornea. Sam Berne (01:05.302) Now from a more holistic perspective, it’s important to take your gas permeable lenses off and allow your eyes to breathe and have a different perspective with the eye brain connection. You know, we can get very unconscious with our contacts and wear them all the time and we think our eyes are doing well. So I always say take your contacts off in the evening in non demanding non threatening situations. And it gives your eye brain a different perspective. Okay, one last point and this is very important. You know, when you go for a regular eye exam and the doctor is correcting you for distance using gas permeable contact lenses, that prescription is going to be too strong for you when you’re doing your digital time and it’s actually going to induce your eyes to get worse. Now there is the conversation that gas permeable lenses does slow down the deterioration of your refractive error. But if you’re using a distance prescription for your digital time, it is definitely going to induce your eyes getting worse. So this is why I would recommend wearing something reduced over the contact lenses in a blue block or filter, especially for your digital time and this actually will prevent your eyes from getting worse. You know, another technique that I use is sometimes I will under correct somebody just slightly in the distance with their gas permeable lenses. But what that does is it slows down the deterioration in the over 40 syndrome. We call this presbyopia and I’ve had hundreds of patients over the years come back and say, know, I don’t need to use reading glasses, especially people in their 40s 50s and even 60s because I’ve cut back on the distance prescription a little bit. and that gives their visual system and focus a little more versatility instead of giving them the super strong lens for distance. So overall two thumbs up for gas permeable lenses use them in moderation like anything else. Thank you so much for the question Brent. Take care and have a great day. Everybody.

Feel free to make any comments in the chat box. I’ll be monitoring those throughout our presentation today. So the title of this workshop is called see clearly now essential oils and natural protocols for vision renewal and a little backstory on how I actually got involved in aromatherapy. Sam Berne (01:49.835) Two things happened. One was that I was working with a lot of people. I was doing a test called the tissue mineral analysis hair analysis. Many of you maybe have had that done and I was working with a group of doctors with working with different detoxification systems to get rid of heavy metals out of the body. And hair mineral analysis is one of many ways to do that. So in the in the process, I happen to be at a health fair and I met this woman who had a small boutique aromatherapy company and I told her what I was doing. And so she donated some essential oils to me to use on these kids. We worked with the children in the study. Who had heavy metal toxicity and the essential oils. We actually used were black cumin, which we put six drops in a glass of water and they drank in the morning. Black cumin is a is a really great essential oil for immune health. We used it a lot. We used it a lot during covid. The second oil that I used was in a world called patchouli and patchouli works very well at getting heavy metals out of the body and it’s a good detoxifier. We had the protocol was two drops on the soles of the feet in the morning. We also used a another essential oil for adrenal health cedarwood Atlas, which is a tree Atlas a tree essential oil and we had parents put two essential oil, two drops of that Cedarwood Atlas on the back around the kidneys and adrenal area. And then the last essential oil we use, which we’re going to talk about today was spike lavender. And we had parents put two drops of spike lavender on the soles of the feet and we had them do it for three months. Sam Berne (04:15.004) We tested the the kids there were 20 kids in the study and we measured their hair mineral analysis at the beginning and then at the end of three months and at the end of three months doing that essential oils protocol. What we found was that the heavy metals had left the body completely hundred percent. I was I was really actually pretty surprised and so that really caught my attention on the power of medicinal essential oils. And not all essential oils have that level of therapeutic value, but the ones we were using from the small boutique company and I’ll talk about, you know how to choose a company to use and anyways, it was a really it was really great experience. So then I began studying aroma therapy. became certified in it. I worked for a company and I taught classes and certification and did that for a few years and then kind of went off on my own. And so aroma therapy and essential oils or something that are near and dear to me. I
The Reduced Prescription Puzzle: Understanding the Adaptation Period
In today’s Q&A episode, I answer a heartfelt question from a mom whose son is struggling to adjust to his reduced nearsighted prescription. We talk about why reduced lenses can initially feel uncomfortable, how the visual brain adapts, and what you can do to support a smoother transition. If you’ve wondered whether a weaker prescription is right for your child—or why adaptation sometimes takes longer—this episode will give you clarity and confidence. Transcript: Sam Berne (00:00.961) Hey everybody, it’s Dr. Sam and I’d like to welcome you to the podcast. So I received a question from a mom who I’m working with her son who’s got nearsightedness. This is a very interesting question. So I gave him a prescription that reduces his myopia and she said that he’s having a hard time adjusting to the prescription that is creating eye strain and his eye muscles hurt and she wants to know What she can do to tell him to get used to the prescription. Well, it’s interesting because when you’re presented with a reduced prescription, Your eyes should relax. Basically, any reduced prescription is saying, can I let go with my muscles and can I release and relax? Now in this particular case, there’s two possible scenarios going on. The first is that and this is very common with people that start wearing reduced prescriptions. They start feeling their eye muscles more and they start feeling this area. Whereas before it was very a very unrealized area meaning they had no awareness of it. And so when you wear something that’s less tight, Guess what happens all of that tightness that you’ve absorbed over years of the strong prescription. You feel that so it’s showing you what’s already there. It’s not causing it, but the relaxation potential is showing you the tension that you’ve been carrying for a long time. The second part of this is It’s not the prescription that’s causing the eye tension. It’s the attitude and habits that we bring to the prescription that creates the eye tension. So this means that we’re so used to having it clear that when we’re given a softer prescription and it’s a little on the soft blurry side, we immediately want to get rid of it by squinting and straining. Sam Berne (02:23.638) So we’re back to our old habits again. Yeah, exactly. So the reduced prescription is going to confront the habit of you wanting to squint and strain and muscle it. So what I told the mother is just invite the child to wear this reduced prescription at near at the 14 inches, maybe maybe 20 inches at the most. But don’t try to wear it in the distance for now. I mean the prescription was prescribed for near vision to begin with and it can be a big jump and kind of disorienting. If you get this reduced prescription and you have the expectation that it should be clear in the distance. Now what will happen over time is that if you get used to the reduced prescription, you’ll notice that your distance acuity improves. And you know, you’re there when you then put on the strong prescription and you start getting a headache. You start feeling the eye ache and you go, wow, this is what I used to wear all the time. And now I’m aware that it’s too tight for me. It’s too strong for me. And you know, I have to say that in my years of practice, I would reduce so many prescriptions during the exam and people actually saw more clearly because the way the eye exam is done, you’re going to overcorrect people. You’re going to make the lens too strong. Sam Berne (04:05.985) And you know, this really speaks to some of the adults that have chronic things like flashing lights or posterior vitreous detachment or even some, you know, retinal lattice degeneration, all those retina problems. If you are nearsighted, your prescription is too strong for you. And if you start wearing something less, the retina heals the flashing lights start to reduce and eventually go away. So you don’t have that traction. So it’s very interesting to know that, you know, any prescription that you wear is like a drug. The prescription eyeglasses and contacts have been approved by the FDA and their side effects. And for near sightedness, especially if you’re wearing something too strong, you’re going to pay the price and that price is going to be tension compression. muscle pain, eye strain, eye fatigue, and on and on. So I really appreciate the question and I hope that’s helpful. So that’s it for today. That’s my show. I want to thank you for tuning in until next time. Take care.

I’m really grateful that you’re here today. The theme of this retreat is *The Eyes Never Lie,* and that comes directly from my own experience healing my own vision. When I was younger, I had significant myopia and astigmatism. I was told that my eyes were defective—that I was simply born this way, and there was nothing I could do except wear stronger glasses over time. But that didn’t feel true. Something in me sensed that my eyes were responding to my **life**—to stress, to pressure, to trying to see more than I felt safe to see, or sometimes, not wanting to see what was in front of me. As I began to study the eyes—not just anatomically, but emotionally—I learned that **vision is not just optical. It’s neurological. It’s systemic. It’s somatic. And it’s deeply connected to our lived experience.** Trauma, grief, chronic stress, early attachment patterns—these don’t just affect our posture or our mood. They reorganize how the **visual system** functions. The eyes tighten. The focus narrows. The world becomes harder to take in. And when we soften the eyes, when we reconnect them to breath, to safety, to the body—our perception expands again. Light returns. Color returns. Presence returns. Today we are living in a world where our vision is being challenged in new ways. Virtual and augmented reality are asking the brain to process space, depth, and meaning in environments that don’t exist physically. And while these technologies are powerful, they can also disconnect the eyes from the body—and the body from the world. So today, we’re going to explore: * How **your emotional life shows up in your vision** * How I personally reversed my own prescription by working with the **nervous system**, not just the eyeball * How to gently unwind the visual patterns that come from grief, stress, or past trauma * And how to stay **centered and embodied** in a world increasingly mediated by screens and simulation. Your eyes are not broken. They are **communicating.** They are telling your story. And today, we begin to listen.” Keep Up with Dr. Sam Website: https://www.drsamberne.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SamBerneOD/?fref=ts Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/samberneod/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/drsamberne LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drsamberne/ Dr. Sam Berne has been in private practice in New Mexico for over 25 years and where he works with patients to improve their vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. Takeaways Children have no context on why they’re being patched. Patching can feel like a punishment to children. Long periods of patching may not be effective. Patching can add trauma and stress to children. Mechanical symptom management does not address underlying issues. Understanding eye coordination is crucial for effective treatment. Emotional support is essential during treatment. Parents should be educated about the process. Alternative approaches may be more beneficial. The focus should be on holistic treatment rather than just symptoms. Sound bites “Patching becomes like a punishment.” “It adds more trauma and stress.” “It has nothing to do with how to use your eyes together.” Chapters 00:00 Understanding the Impact of Patching on Children 00:17 The Limitations of Mechanical Symptom Management Sam Berne (00:03.732) Okay, well, my first question is, how did you find me? And even the way you talk about some people like trying to I think you’d mentioned that prescriptions can, you know, be like a drug, and you can lean off of it. Yes. And I really like that idea. Because I think sometimes we jump a little bit too quick to to glasses. And sometimes, yeah, they just need more and more. Okay. Yeah. So What I read about your history is that in your daughter, you first noticed the eye turning at about 10 months. Is that right? And when did you actually either go to your pediatrician or ophthalmologist to have it checked out? Yeah. So I think it was like her one year appointment that the doctor, I had mentioned it and then he had said to go to an ophthalmologist. went there. It was so interesting. She had said that she didn’t notice any eye turn, which is fine because it doesn’t happen that often. So she didn’t notice it in the appointment. she said that she’s like, I don’t know. She just said there’s nothing to do with it. But then she said that my daughter was farsighted and then she just wanted to put glasses on. For me at 10 months old, I was just like, or a year, guess at that point, it just felt like, a one year old, like she can’t tell me if it’s too much if she can’t see it. You know, if we put glasses on her, just felt like it just didn’t feel right for me. Sure. Sure. Didn’t land. We’ve been doing a lot of just waiting. I’ve been. Yeah, it’s interesting when it’s summertime and we’re outside, it hardly ever happens. and now is, yeah, it’s getting to fall. It’s getting darker earlier. We notice it more in the darkness. It is a lot worse. If the room isn’t well lit and it’s quite dark, it’ll be a lot worse. But if we’re outside, we’ll go camping for like a week in the summer and it will not happen while we’re camping. So did

But what would be in your words, maybe a sentence or two, what your the things that are bothering you the most and what would be your goals and objectives? One thing about that prescription, was very recent. was not the prescription that I’m not using the lenses that that optometrist gave me. Because I asked him to make the same type of glasses that you had given me 20 years ago that I still use at night to drive with. But he added a stigmatism correction without my permission. see. I see that. Yeah, and a lot of a stigma, a lot of astigmatism. And well, you know, you get that prescription, it’s gonna really, you know, lock down your eyes. I got it. And I put them on. I had them on for like, less than a minute. And I was dizzy, disassociated, nauseous, I had to actually go get bodywork to try to fix what those glasses to me. It was amazing. Anyway, we won’t go into that. Yeah, that’s why I’m here at the vision therapy. Okay, I was very excited to see it. Real quick. Say more, say more. Well, I just in October, I hit my head really hard. So I detached my retina. And I got three tears and they had eye surgery. And then in December, there were aspects of it detaching again. So I had an in office procedure with a laser. And it just, my eye feels dry all the time and it’s really blurry. The vision feels like it’s relaxing a little bit with the animal chart and the lens to blur glasses again. but yeah, it’s like the whole eye socket is dry. The dialogue explores how adjustments in lenses can influence not only visual clarity but also personal relationships and intuitive insights in professional practice. Takeaways I started wearing glasses when I was in fifth grade. I learned about good visual habits in optometry school. I’m feeling like I’m getting early presbyopic symptoms. Definitely more clarity with the new prescription. I would cut that by half and try. It feels shaky almost like my ground is so shaky. I feel like I identify more with my type A side. This is more of my relaxed side of it. You might get more intuitive insights with different lenses. I love the way I was trained in optometry. Yeah, so I started wearing glasses when I was in fifth grade and my optometrist prescribed me very strong minus lenses. and didn’t tell me anything about visual habits. So I used to color and write really close to the page and I used to watch TV, you know, from the distance of this computer screen. And so my prescription just continued to climb and climb and climb throughout school. And it wasn’t until optometry school that I learned about good visual habits, about, you know, relaxing your vision, going outside. you know, not being so glued to the screens, but you know, with COVID and technology nowadays, we’re always on our screens. And so I do vision therapy with patients. And so I’m actively doing the exercises with them, especially the diverging activities. And what I’m finding is I’m approaching 36 now, and I’m feeling like I’m getting early presbyopic kind of symptoms where long-term near work, it’s starting to give me strain and headaches and I even put a little bit of basin prism in my glasses just to help with that. But I’m still finding that my eyes get really tired by the end of the day. Okay, well one thing I can say right off the bat that could really help you is have you ever thought about one of these prescriptions? Yes, and that is what I I would love to strive to do that. So the way we should do this is if you’ve got some flippers and you can get them, then what will happen is I’m going to have you wear them over this. Yeah. Sam Berne (02:08.429) Okay, I’ve got it. I’ve done so this is a plus 50 I just want you to wear it over. Are you minus six like oh you are you so I’m actually I’m not minus six So this one here minus 375 minus 175 cell, okay, so spherical equivalent is about a five ish and then left eye is a minus five So a lot of still here zero. So, okay, so All right, we’re going to try a things. So put the plus 50s over for glasses. Okay, so what do you feel? Comfortable. Comfortable. What’s the difference between with and without? So definitely more clarity. Okay. But I also feel more center, not as peripheral. All right. And then when I put these on, blurrier, but I feel more open and peripheral. Things are a little bit bigger too. All right. Now with your right hand. Try that one. I think the plus is at the bottom. Okay. Over or? No. This might be minus. Blurrier. And how does it feel mentally, emotionally? I feel almost like a tingling right here, my nose bridge. Maybe a little bit of nausea. Okay. So the na

This views each person as genetically and biochemically unique and enables the individual to make lifelong improvements to their well-being. Sam Berne (00:01.454) Hey everyone, welcome to my walk today. So we’re going to post this on my podcast. This is a question I got from a mom recently. She has a 15 year old son who’s been diagnosed with astigmatism and he was getting some occupational therapy and the therapist noticed that he had a body twist and when he had his lenses off there was less twist in the body. So she’s asking What should they do in terms of a lens prescription? And how do we work with this situation? Well, astigmatism can be either in the cornea. It’s an irregular shape of the front of the eye or it can also be muscular where the six extraocular muscles are changing the shape of the eye and it creates kind of an asymmetry or a warping in the eye. Now in my own body work that I’ve developed I have found that I measure somebody’s astigmatism at the beginning of my exam and then I do my body work to unwind the the body’s twist my functional vision integrative body method and then I measure the astigmatism after the body work and in a high percentage of cases. It’s much much less which tells me that Any prescription in the eye is also in the body and that when we wear prescription in the eye, it can lock down the body. So in this particular case, my suggestion would be to perhaps work with the eye doctor to say, hey, look, can we either get a prescription with no astigmatism that will wear during the occupational therapy program or get a reduced astigmatism because clearly If you get full correction on astigmatism, it only reinforces the twists not only in the eye, but in the body. Sam Berne (02:07.79) So there are many exercises physical therapy exercises that can be done to also reduce the twist in the eye. One of my favorite ones is doing the animal eye chart. This is a exercise I developed from my first book creating your personal vision. So it’s basically an eye tracking exercise, but you’re doing each eye separately and you’re tracing the diagram. of the animal eye chart and you’re stretching your eye in all areas of ga

Well it used to be with climate change you know we’re getting that much snow but back in the 90s yeah we used to get that kind of snow end of October beginning in November what a blessing you know it lowers the fire risk and Anyway, it’s great to be here in the humidity. was mentioning I was in New Mexico in October and it was very, very dry. Now, there are a lot of apps available where you can record right on your phone and upload to your podcast page. That’s what I did at the very beginning. You don’t need fancy audio equipment. You don’t need, you know, the the high-end things. I wouldn’t recommend that. But by starting a podcast, there’s so many different ways that you can go. You could have say in Santa Fe, your business was restaurants rest your restaurant owner. What you could do is you could actually invite other people in the industry to come on your show and that would help you cross-pollinate. They get to know about you. You’d get to know about them again. It’s part of that giving where you’re not asking the guests for anything, but you let them talk about themselves and so they have their audience. have your audience and this is how you start building the podcast and at this point I’ve got a very large download monthly download. You can get analytics from it and a very high retention rate where people want to listen to the entire podcast. So I’ve had some interest interesting guests on I’ve done a lot of Q &A podcasts and then you can also look to be on other people’s podcasts as well. So there’s a lot of different advantages to being to having a podcast because it’s that audio channel and it’s another funnel for you to start to get followers. One of the things I do with my podcasts is I sometimes they’re very short. They’re five minutes or they’re three minutes and I say, hey everybody is doctor Sam and I clarity podcast. And you know, I have this great idea blah blah blah, and I’ll talk about it for a few minutes. Well, that’s our show for today. Thanks for tuning in until next time. So I’m posting maybe four to six podcasts a week. And also another thing that you can do is you can take excerpts from the entire podcast and you can post those on your social media site. So I do that all the time. I just did a interview with a doctor and we took the Sam Berne (02:29.144) the podcast and we split it up into maybe 30 second sound bites and we posted those on Facebook and Instagram and LinkedIn and it doubled the amount of people who actually ended up downloading the entire podcast. So there are different techniques that you can use. You can even record a pre-recorded intro and an outtake at the very end, you know, something like if you have questions, you can text me. Or you can send me an email or here’s my upcoming online workshop. So there are ways again that you can use the podcast the audio channel as a simple free way to start building your community. Another thing you can do is you can go

You know, I grew up in a middle-class family and we emphasized education. So I ended up becoming a doctor. I was always interested in natural healing. So I combined the two and I started two private practices. One I sold the other I still have. So I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit in me. And in 2016, I started my brand on the internet and I’ll talk about that and actually in 2020 is when I launched my e-commerce right around covid. So I’ll go into more details about that and I’ve been a client of score for the past three years. So here we go. So when I started I began to think of myself as a media channel and the key thing in if you’re going to do social media in my opinion is to create value for your audience. And what I did early on is I gave away my best information like everything for free and it’s kind of like this idea of give give give and then you can ask. Okay. This is a really important aspect in building a brand and it’s very different than say being transactional and I’ll kind of go into more detail on that in a minute. But if you are going to do social media, my advice would be start with your strengths. Are you better at writing? Are you better at talking for me? I loved videos. So I loved doing video. also love doing audio and I actually started this this process called morning walks with Dr. Sam and so I would I love to hike so I be hiking in the National Forest and somebody would ask me a question and so I would stop and go. All right. Let me give you the answer here and it became a huge way to build my following. Another thing that I did was I created Sam Berne (02:17.496) four to eight content pieces a day and I posted them across all the social media platforms Facebook Instagram LinkedIn YouTube tick-tock and Twitter. If you’re independent interest, you could do that. You could also do snapchat, but I was very disciplined about creating content and Posting them and people ask. Well, what do you do for content? What’s the best thing and I would say storytelling? I would also say documenting. like for an example in my own case, you know, how did I get to the place of developing my products? How did I get to the place of you know, I might share a story about a client or a patient who had a success story in terms of documentation. Recently. I did I love whitewater rafting. It’s one of my passions and I did a trip in central and South Southern, Utah. And I documented the whole trip video audio and then I posted that and so this is another piece. Your content doesn’t just h

Today is a very interesting show. What I’ve done is I’ve pulled my functional vision integrative method practitioners. So these are doctors who wanted to ask me some questions and the theme is about what is the state of the Union of holistic health globally in 2025? So I’m going to take their questions one at a time and I hope you enjoy the show. Thanks for tuning in. The first question is from a naturopath who practices in Denmark and he’s asking what is the state of holistic medicine and vision not only in the US but globally and the way I see it in 2025. We’re in a really big power shift right now. People are tired of band-aid solutions. You know, a day doesn’t go by when I get an email from somebody that says, you know, I’m really tired of symptom management care. People want to know what is the root cause of their condition and what can they do to heal their condition naturally? I would say the biggest aspect is people want to take responsibility for their health. know in the US we do call it health insurance, but I think we should call it disease insurance because all it’s good for is things like if we have to go to the emergency room, if we, you know, get into a car accident, if there’s some big traumatic event in our body, medical care works really well. But in terms of being proactive, it just isn’t there. And in fact, so many people will share with me how invalidated they feel when they even bring up things like nutrition, supplements, herbs, essential oils. It’s getting really tough out there for people to find a like-minded holistic doctor if they are themselves holistically minded. Question 2 is from a craniosacral therapist who lives in California and she’s asking how do I fit into this holistic model of health not only in the US but globally? Well, I think there’s a Renaissance and people looking for whole body therapy. I mean, if you look at just the holistic health industry, one of the things that I’ve observed Is that when practitioners now want to teach internationally, they really can’t do it unless they either get a work permit or they have the country that is hosting them do some legal things to be able to invite them so that the government’s now are on to holistic health and people who want to teach it internationally. And if you want to do that, You have to jump through a lot of hoops. remember 25, 30 years ago when I used to teach internationally. We didn’t have any of these restrictions or requirements. So people are hungry for holistic medicine, holistic health. And in terms of the eyes, I mean, it’s off the charts. People are wanting holistic methods to support their eyesight and vision. All right, question three is from an Ayurvedic practitioner. He’s also a Chinese medicine doctor. He’s from New York and he’s asking how do I integrate the eyes and vision into my message to mainstream medical health? Well, I’ve been at this for a long time and what I’m here to say is that vision is more than in the eye, know, in so many of my video blogs and written blogs. I’ve talked about how vision is more than in the eye and our eyes really reflect our systemic and metabolic health. we look for example, at iridology, iridology has been around for hundreds of years. The iris is the colored part of the eye and it maps the body doctors have mapped it for over 200 years. And so wh

So I was asked by a nonprofit to do some coaching for entrepreneurs, especially in the area of social media marketing and other things and I began to research artificial intelligence back then and ⁓ so I wrote a book about it and I since then I’ve left the nonprofit and I’m doing some coaching for young entrepreneurs, people who want to get started have their own voice, their own creativity. And so this book on artificial intelligence is really good. In fact, what I’ve done is I’m combining artificial intelligence with something called somatic intelligence. And I’m going to talk a little bit about that. That’s going to be the the basis of our podcast today. And so it brings in vision, but it brings in the body and our body intelligence and how you blend that with artificial intelligence. So anyway, this book is out. It’s on Amazon. It’s an ebook right now. I’m probably going to do a paperback as well. You can get it on Amazon and we’d love to get you

Chapters 00:00 The Benefits of Red Light Therapy 02:49 Understanding Light Sensitivity and Eye Health 06:05 Exploring Photobiomodulation and Its Applications   Sam Berne (00:00.174) There’s no question that red light is having a very positive impact on our health. And there’s an author who was actually on his podcast a couple years ago. It’s called that podcast is called the energy blueprint and the the practitioners name is Ari. ARI Witten w h i t t e n Ari somebody you’ve heard Sam Berne (00:28.158) And Ari, if you go on Amazon, he wrote a really nice book on red light therapy, not on the eyes, but just in general. And I think that if you’re skeptical about it or you want to learn more about it, I would do some Google search. would, you know, I might I’ve done a couple of podcasts on it and you know, there are a couple of people out there that Sam Berne (00:56.983) They devote their whole podcasts to red light and research. Now with the eyes, there isn’t much out there on red light because the machines, the devices that they sell are too bright for the eyes. So this is an important point. Sam Berne (01:18.899) One of the trauma effects that we go into is if we’re light sensitive and in our light sensitivity, we shut down. We have a very strong blink reflex and so you’re triggering trauma in the eyes trying to look at a bright light box. You can’t do it. In fact, the manufacturers will say don’t look at the light. Let’s cover the eyes. Sam Berne (01:51.019) With these glasses, the reason why I made them is because the man who did the study, sells glasses in red light glasses. It’s in London. Difficult to get them shipped here. You can try. It’s called iPower UK, E-Y-E-P-O-W-E-R UK. And maybe they will, and if they do, great. But. Sam Berne (02:19.956) I decided because I had been working with color and light therapy and this segues into our color therapy where we work with all the colors. But what I did was I went to my laboratory and I began experimenting with the with the color and getting the tint exactly right. And then I was doing research based on the camera that I have and some other Dr. Sam Berne has been in private practice in New Mexico for over 35 years and where he works with patients to improve their vision and overall wellness through holistic methods.
