IMSA GTP with Britain's Latest Champ
In 2023, the IMSA GTP class introduced new cars built to the LMDh formula, featuring a hybrid energy management system as manufacturers were keen to show more relevance to the passenger car industry. The competition in the GTP class was intense, with six driver pairings from four manufacturers (Acura, BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche) entering the final race, the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, in contention for the championship. The top three entries were only separated by five points. Ultimately the Cadillac of Britain's Alexander Sims and Pipo Derani was victorious. Despite winning only once during the season (at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring), their consistent performances and strategy paid off. This victory marked Derani's second IMSA championship and the first for Sims.
