Ep 505505: Le Mans Review - How Toyota avoided another "game over" moment

15A fourth consecutive Toyota victory was by no means certain as, with hours to spare, the #7 car was secretly hiding a potential show stopping issue. A podium for Alpine sets them up well for the future, and some strong times for the Glickenhaus cars showed they were on the pace when the track conditions suited them. Ep 493493: British GP Review - Analysis from the UK and Netherlands

The fallout from the frantic first lap, which saw Max Verstappen hit the tyre wall in a 51G impact at Copse corner and Lewis Hamilton receive a 10 second penalty, has continued for hours after the race. Then we talk to Mike Mulder (Editor, motorsport.com Netherlands) to hear the Dutch perspective, and how they viewed the incident. Alonso’s tricky start to the 2021 campaign with Alpine has raised some question marks but, as the Spaniard tells Alex Kalinauckas in our cover interview for Autosport Magazine, it’s far too early to know where Alonso really stands. Even drivers that have just changed teams have found it hard to adapt and Alonso has had two years out of F1. As Alonso points out, it seems only fair and sensible to give him more time. It’s quite possible that Alpine’s progress and the state of F1 following the rule changes for 2022 will have a bigger impact on how realistic his aim is. Learn more about your ad choices.
