S1 Ep 8Breaking the Addiction - Understanding the Consequences of Excessive Screen Time (Episode 08)
In this ThatITShow podcast, we discuss the ongoing distraction epidemic - how technology is affecting our attention spans and lives. There's a lot of data to support the conclusion that we're becoming less social, less intelligent and less human. Here are a few articles to check (there are many of them available): Digital Overuse and Addictive Traits and Their Relationship With Mental Well-Being and Socio-Demographic Factors: A National Population Survey for Wales (doi: 10.3389/fpubh.2021.585715) Brain health consequences of digital technology use (doi: 10.31887/DCNS.2020.22.2/gsmall) Going digital: how technology use may influence human brains and behavior (doi: 10.31887/DCNS.2020.22.2/mhoehe) Technology Use: Too Much of a Good Thing? S1 Ep 7The Future is Refurbished: Embracing a Sustainable Tech Lifestyle (Episode 07)
In this ThatITShow podcast, we discuss the topic that both of us feel very passionately about - using refurbished hardware both for personal and professional scenarios. Both of us have been using refurbished laptops for years as they're way cheaper and suitable for many of our needs. Professionally, both of us have been using refurbished servers as the basis for a lot of the work that we do, especially in education. Just as an example - one of our environments that our students use 0-24 recently underwent a refurbished hardware refresh process, and we were able to reduce it from 40-50 servers to just 5. While not only keeping the same amount of horsepower - we actually got more (a generation newer CPUs). This also significantly influenced our energy footprint, as the prices of electricity in the future are still a big unknown. In all of the use cases, this means being a bit more kind to the environment while meeting your performance and capacity needs.
S1 Ep 6The great mobile OS rift: Abandon your ’droids, it’s time for apples... or is it? (Episode 06)
In this ThatITShow podcast, we discuss the ultimate tug of war in the mobile space - Android vs iOS battle. Recently, one of us (Jasmin a.k.a. Mister Cough-er) switched sides from 'droid to iOS as a self-trolling yet information providing service. To oversimplify, Android, with its open-source operating system and customizable options, has won over a significant portion of the smartphone market. On the other hand, iOS, with its sleek design and seamless integration with other Apple devices, has a strong following as well. The debate over which platform is superior is heated, with arguments for both sides. Some argue that Android's customization options give it an edge over iOS, while others praise the simplicity and security of Apple's operating system. The two platforms have a bit different approaches to the smartphone market, with Android targeting a wider demographic and iOS focusing a bit more on premium experiences. We debate the merits of using one vs another, and approach the discussion from multiple market segments.
S1 Ep 5The Future of Work is Here: ChatGPT Integration with Microsoft apps and services? (Episode 05)

Then, we move to the main topic that's a continuation of our first episode - ChatGPT integration into Microsoft ecosystem, having in mind the extra investment Microsoft made in OpenAI. When we say Microsoft ecosystem, we're discussing various applications and cloud services - search for Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Office/Microsoft 365, Azure... everything. It stands to reason that some next generation of this product is going to be integrated in that manner and we try to explore the possibilities that might offer to regular users.
S1 Ep 6IT-Educated and Certified Employees: The Key to Success in the Tech Industry (ThatITShow Live 01)
In this re-edited (for sound purposes only, no cuts to the original video), livestreamed ThatITShow podcast, we have some guests! Both Jasmin and Vedran work @Algebra university college (soon to become Algebra University) and have more than 3 decades of combined experience in IT college education and IT education that's technology specific (RedHat, Microsoft, VMware education). We invited three of our students to discuss both these topics as they went through undergraduate/graduate programs with us, while simultaneously passing multiple RedHat exams on the way to the highest RedHat certification, RHCA (RedHat Certified Architect). Algebra university college is a RedHat Academy partner, which provided us with a lot of resources for our three students in terms of getting access to materials and virtual machines to be able to study. Jasmin and Vedran pointed them in RedHat/Linux direction as their educators and they pursued it all the way to the top, which is incredible having in mind how young these three highly inspirational people are. You'll hear the stories of their beginnings in IT, how they chose Algebra university college, RedHat/Linux as their path and what that meant for their careers.
S1 Ep 4Why Excel is a Disaster for Cloud IT Management (Episode 04)
In this ThatITShow podcast that's going to become a regular feature, we discuss cloud technology in situations in which people in IT management ("Excel managers"), who only seem to care about some CAPEX/OPEX distribution of IT finances are pushing using cloud as a be-all-end-all solution for everything. We discuss some general use cases and go through a demo to show that using cloud is not in any way simple (a lot of those people tend to oversimplify that fact), and that it can also be a problem for long-term company strategy. We use Azure as an example to discuss one of the most commonly used procedures - to create a virtual machine. The aim here is not to pick on Azure as a bad cloud solution - it's more of an "introduction to cloud reality" - if you want to do this properly, creating a VM in cloud isn't "tree mouse clicks away", as a lot of people seem to think.
S1 Ep 3Twitter and the News: How the Platform is Shaping the Way We Stay Informed (Episode 03)

S1 Ep 1ChatGPT: The Good, the Bad, and the Potential of Artificial Intelligence (Episode 01)
In this ThatITShow podcast, we discuss some news and ChatGPT bot that stirred up so much discussion on the Internet. We spent some time analyzing how it works and what it does, which gave us some ideas for both technical and intellectual discussion about it from a couple of different points of view. We deliberately went at it from "I love it" "I hate it" perspective playing a bit of Devil's advocate, as this is a hugely controversial topic that is going to keep us discussing for a long time coming. At the end of the day, it's a sign of things to come.
