S1 Ep 567Sincaraz clash in Korea, Poland win United Cup and Sabalenka breezes to Brisbane title
It’s the first tour catch-up of the season and it’s go, go, go at Tennis Weekly HQ. Joel and Chris break down all the winners and losers from a dramatic United Cup, as Poland claim the title at the third time of asking, led by a resurgent Hubert Hurkacz. Top of the agenda is Iga Swiatek – is the world No.1 already under pressure ahead of the Australian Open after losses to Coco Gauff and Belinda Bencic? The team also reacts to Taylor Fritz’s indifferent start to the season, capped by a shock defeat to clay-court specialist Sebastian Baez.Elsewhere, Aryna Sabalenka puts Battle of the Sexes firmly behind her by storming to the Brisbane title without dropping a set, while Alexander Bublik picked up from where he left off last season with a debut into the ATP Top 10. Daniil Medvedev also claims he’s back to playing Top 5 tennis with his title win in Brisbane… but are we convinced? We also unpack the controversial Nairobi wildcard that got literally everyone talking (and believing they could play on the ITF tour), the Nick Kyrgios AO wildcard that wasn’t, discuss Milos Raonic’s retirement, and ask how history will judge his career. Plus, Kim delivers a very special crowdfund announcement as Tennis Weekly hits their £2,000 target!Support the podcast by donating to our Tennis Weekly 2026 Crowdfund. The gang also reacts to the headline-grabbing (or is that sleep inducing?) Battle of the Sexes in Dubai, featuring Nick Kyrgios and Aryna Sabalenka, asking whether there were any real winners from the event — and why Sabalenka’s Macarena celebration pushed Joel over the edge. There was debate as well on Venus Williams receiving an Australian Open wildcard - should it instead have gone to Victoria Azarenka? And is Nick Kyrgios deserving of one at all? Finally, we unpack Novak Djokovic’s decision to step away from the PTPA, citing transparency concerns and what it could mean for player representation on the tour.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 559Alcaraz ends season at No.1 as Sinner defends ATP Finals title
That’s a wrap on the ATP 2025 season! Jannik Sinner defends his ATP Finals singles title as Carlos Alcaraz does enough to secure the Year End No.1 ranking for the second time. In a dramatic final week of ATP Tour action that saw Novak Djokovic pull out at the last minute and the No.1 ranking decided it was the same result as Sinner capped a stellar season by winning once again in Turin. It was the most watched tennis match in Italian history and the historic result could only have been topped if he had sealed the No.1 ranking as well. There were strong performances from Felix Auger Aliassime and Alex de Minaur as they ended the year in the Top 10 and disappointment for Zverev and Fritz who didn’t match their previous efforts at the ATP Finals.Joel, Kim and Chris also unpack Novak Djokovic’s interview with Piers Morgan as well as Tim Henman calling for a ATP Chairman, Andrea Gaudenzi, to model the ATP season like the F1 season with rest weeks in between big events. Joel also puts Kim and Chris through their paces in a Year End No.1 Quiz as the final Par for the Courts of the 2025 season and they announce their UTS competition! S1 Ep 558Djokovic wins in Athens then withdraws from ATP Finals + Rybakina undefeated at WTA Finals
What a dramatic day for the WTA and ATP tour as Novak Djokovic sent the ATP Finals into chaos when he both won a title and then withdrew immediately from the ATP Finals on the eve of the tournament allowing beaten finalist Lorenzo Musetti to make his first ever trip to the year ending championships on home soil in Turin. The result also means that Felix Auger Alliasime will be making his second ATP Finals appearance and will be seeking to continue his good run of form. All eyes will be on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as they battle it out to be the Year End World No.1 and the odds are stacked in Alcaraz’ favour with just three wins required to prevent Sinner from finishing the year on top. On the WTA Tour it was just as dramatic as the last player to qualify 2022 Wimbledon Champion Elena Rybakina defeated World Number 1 Aryna Sabalenka to take home the WTA FInals Trophy. Rybakina went undefeated at the finals beating Swiatek, Sabalenka and Anisimova as well as Pegula on her way to the title. She even bageled Swiatek on the way and delivered a tiebreak bagel to the queen of tiebreaks herself Aryna Sabalenka.Sabalenka has another big match to look forward to as she takes part in a revival of the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ where she will take on Nick Kyrgios and Joel and Chris ask why and who cares! S1 Ep 557Sinner secures No.1 ranking from Alcaraz in Paris, WTA Finals underway + Mboko triumph!
Jannik Sinner is back at No.1 after lifting the title in Paris for the first time. He surpasses Carlos Alcaraz for at least a week as the battle to be the year end No.1 heats up ahead of the ATP Finals. Sinner overcame Felix Auger Aliassime in the final to win his first Masters 1000 of the year but it will be a tall order if he is to retain the number 1 ranking from Alcaraz in Turin. Elsewhere the WTA Finals have kicked off and it has been full of surprises with Iga Swiatek going down to Rybakina, winning just 1 game in the final two sets. Defending Champion Coco Gauff looked out of sorts as she was defeated by friend and countrywoman Jessica Pegula in three sets after making 75 unforced errors and 17 double faults. Can she turn it around and make the semifinals? Madison Keys was eliminated after losing both of her matches and it will be a shootout between Anisimova and Swiatek to make the semis. There was joy for Victoria Mboko who won her second WTA title of the year after a difficult few months following her victory at home in Canada. Mboko will finish the year in the top 10 and will be a big name to watch in 2026. We also cover the action from the final week of ATP action as Novak Djokovic plays in Athens and Lorenzo Musetti needs to win the title to qualify for the end of season finals or Felix Auger Aliassime will be heading to Turin! S1 Ep 548US Open Men's Final - Untouchable Alcaraz defeats Sinner to reclaim Number 1 ranking!
Carlos Alcaraz is once again on top of the tennis world after capturing his second US Open title in New York and reclaiming the world number one ranking from Jannik Sinner. In a trilogy final that was delayed by 50 minutes due to President Donald Trump’s arrival at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz produced a dominant display to defeat Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Aside from a brief wobble in the second set, the Spaniard was in command throughout, outhitting his rival by 42 winners to 21 and dropping just one set all tournament. The victory marks Alcaraz’s sixth major title at only 22 years of age, putting him ahead of Federer, Djokovic and Nadal at the same stage of their careers. Sinner, meanwhile, struggled with his first serve and could not maintain consistency on what many considered his strongest surface.Join Joel and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they unpack what this result means for both players and the broader Grand Slam picture in 2025. Was this a missed opportunity for Sinner? What was the difference for Alcaraz compared to Wimbledon? And yes, the Drake Curse reared its head again. We also discuss how this latest chapter shapes their rivalry moving forward and what fans can expect for the rest of the season, plus unveil our Collect a Set champion and look forward to our US Open wrap-up show coming later this week!SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 547US Open Women's Final - Sabalenka defeats Anisimova to end 2025 slam season on top!
Aryna Sabalenka finally ends her Grand Slam drought for the season and edges past Amanda Anisimova in two thrilling sets to retain her US Open title that she captured last year. Join Kim and Chris as they discuss the encounter in Flushing Meadows between two of the biggest ball-strikers in the women's game and whether they thought it lived up to the billing. For Sabalenka, it was not a win without drama having failed to close out the match at the first opportunity but was able to get over the line a nail-shredding tiebreak. How does this win change her outlook on the season and how good must it feel to get revenge on that titanic Wimbledon semi final defeat against the American. For Amanda Anisimova, it was another taste of Grand Slam finals defeat but this time in a completely different manner. From the double bagel dished out at Wimbledon by Iga Swiatek, Anisimova can have her head held high even if falling just short. Join Kim and Chris as they discuss her journey, what needs to happen for her to become a Grand Slam champion and where is it most likely to happen next. We also give an update on Collect a Set as the competition hots up with a record number still left in the running heading into Sunday's blockbuster final showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner!SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 546US Open Men's Final Preview - No.1 on the line as Alcaraz vs Sinner face off in Final
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are set for a blockbuster US Open final, and Joel and Kim are here to break it all down at Tennis Weekly HQ.Alcaraz delivered a statement performance against Novak Djokovic, gaining revenge for his Australian Open defeat earlier this year and scoring his first hard-court victory over the 38-year-old Serbian legend. The Spaniard cruised through in straight sets, not dropping a set all tournament, still finding the time to play golf with Sergio Garcia, and secured his spot in a second US Open final as he eyes both the trophy and a return to World No. 1.Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner battled through the night session, overcoming an inspired at times Felix Auger-Aliassime in four hard-fought sets to notch his 300th career win. Despite a mid-match medical timeout, the Italian found his best tennis in the clutch moments to set up yet another Grand Slam showdown with Alcaraz. For the first time in the Open Era, two players will contest three major finals in the same season — Roland Garros, Wimbledon and now New York. Who will claim the US Open crown and the year-end No. 1 ranking? S1 Ep 545US Open Women's Final Preview - Anisimova wins Osaka epic as Sabalenka edges Pegula in semi
The US Open 2025 Women’s final is set and it’s a rematch of THAT Wimbledon semifinals that saw Amanda Anisimova upset the world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a fabulous contest. Anisimova will be hoping to replicate that victory when she faces off against Sabalenka on Saturday night but will the memory of the 6-0 6-0 Wimbledon final defeat be in the back of her mind going into another final. Anisimova stunned two time former champion Naomi Osaka in the semi-final in three tight sets and 3 hours to advance to her second consecutive grand slam final. Osaka at one point was just one game away from a 3rd final in New York before Anisimova bounced back to power to victory. For Sabalenka the test was arguably even tougher in a rematch of the US Open final last year, she went down a set and in the final set only won 4 points against the Pegula serve and they all happened to be in one game whilst Pegula didn’t take her 4 break point chances to level the match. Sabalenka will be seeking her 4th grand slam title and her 1st of the season whilst Anisimova will be seeking a maiden grand slam title.Joel and Chris make their predictions and they also preview the Men’s semi-finals where Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic face off in the day session and Jannik Sinner takes on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the night session. They also look ahead to the women’s doubles final from Flushing Meadows where Taylor Townsends seeks to cap off a phenomenal tournament for the American! S1 Ep 544US Open QFs - Anisimova's Wimbledon revenge, Djokovic makes history, Alcaraz cruises
It’s been an action-packed set of quarterfinals in New York City, with the semifinal line-ups (nearly) now confirmed. In a Wimbledon final repeat, Amanda Anisimova was able to exact revenge on Iga Swiatek (and that double bagel defeat) to make her first US Open semifinal, whilst Felix Auger-Aliassime extended his sparkling run by outlasting Alex De Minaur — who once again fell short of his maiden Grand Slam semifinal. Will he ever get there? We also dive into Novak Djokovic’s gritty, guns-out win over Taylor Fritz and ask whether the Serbian can finally make another major final and build on his Australian Open victory against Carlos Alcaraz as the Spaniard marched into the semis without dropping a set, looking as ruthless as ever. Jessica Pegula also brought Barbora Krejcikova back down to earth after her dramatic win over Taylor Townsend, booking a semifinal showdown with World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, who advanced via walkover following Marketa Vondrousova’s withdrawal. Can Pegula keep up the curse of Americans and stop Sabalenka from reaching yet another Grand Slam final?SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 543US Open R4 - Osaka is BACK, Alcaraz peaking in NYC, Swiatek - Sabalenka impress
… and breathe! It’s been another couple of days of high drama in Round 4 at the US Open in New York City. We kick off with Naomi Osaka’s stunning win over Coco Gauff, a straight-sets victory that puts her into her first Slam quarterfinal in more than four years — and marks her first top-five win since 2018. Osaka has always won a Grand Slam every time she has reached the quarterfinals - Joel and Kim discuss can she do it again? We also talk Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, who both continued their serene progress into the last eight, with the Spaniard looking very much the part on serve (less said about the barnet the better!).Elsewhere, Daniil Medvedev has split with long-time coach Gilles Cervara after eight successful years, sparking questions about where the former World No. 1 goes next. Mouratoglou? Ivanesevic? No one?! Barbora Krejcikova also pulled off the escape of the tournament, saving eight match points to deny Taylor Townsend in a dramatic Arthur Ashe clash that truly showed what Grand Slam champion mentality looks like, whilst a resurgent Felix Auger-Aliassime produced fearless tennis to dismantle Andrey Rublev and book a quarterfinal against the under the radar Alex de Minaur. Plus, we get excited overIga Swiatek’s statement win, Marketa Vondrousova’s ball bashing upset of Elena Rybakina, and the bizarre “hat-stealing” story - now with an apology from the Polish CEO - that’s taken social media by storm!SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 542US Open R3 - Gauff vs Osaka is ON, Sinner survives Shapovalov, Djokovic injured?
The US Open is heating up in New York and Round 3 brought yet more drama in abundance. Jannik Sinner survived a stern test from Denis Shapovalov but is still searching for his best tennis, while Coco Gauff powered past Magdalena Frech to set up a much-anticipated fourth-round clash with Naomi Osaka. Joel and Chris look at their head to head and decide who will a (presumed) Arthur Ashe night session slot favour most - or could we be in store for some 'car crash tennis' as Joel puts it. Meanwhile, Elena Rybakina once again proved too strong for Emma Raducanu, with Joel and Chris discussing how the Brit can best handle ultra-aggressive opponents.Elsewhere, Taylor Townsend continued her fairytale run with a stunning win over Mirra Andreeva as Jelena Ostapenko published another Instagram story update. Novak Djokovic overcame brief back injury concerns to edge past Cameron Norrie, and Adrian Mannarino advanced in bizarre circumstances whilst on a bathroom break after Ben Shelton’s tearful retirement on court. Off-court, fan behavior sparked controversy when a millionaire CEO was caught stealing a signed hat meant for a child from Polish player Kamil Majchrzak, adding fuel to discussions about crowd conduct at the US Open.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 541US Open R2 - Swiatek tested, Sinner eases through + Townsend - Ostapenko DRAMA!
The second round of the US Open delivered high drama, surprises, and a few fiery exchanges — and Joel and Chris are here to break it all down. We dive into Iga Swiatek’s gritty three-set win over Suzan Lamens, her first dropped set since Montreal, as she battles her way into the third round along with Jannik Sinner’s first serve struggle. Naomi Osaka continues her clean run in New York - bedazzled Labubu toys in tow - raising the prospect of a blockbuster showdown with Coco Gauff, who herself survived a rollercoaster three-setter against Ajla Tomljanovic with dangerous Donna Vekic awaiting in tonight’s night session on Arthur Ashe.Elsewhere, British hopes took a hit with Jack Draper’s withdrawal due to injury, while Emma Raducanu cruised through in style, showing signs that maybe she is back to her US Open 2021 title winning best. We also unpack Taylor Townsend and Jelena Ostapenko’s heated on-court clash that had the crowd buzzing, and discuss the shifting power dynamics in men’s tennis after early exits for Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Jakub Mensik, and fellow young guns. We also look ahead to standout Day 6 clashes including Rybakina vs Raducanu and Djokovic vs Norrie. S1 Ep 540US Open R1 - Alcaraz's new look, Raducanu's 1st win since title run, Venus lights up Ashe
New York, New York! The opening round of the 2025 US Open has had a little bit of everything — shock exits, emotional goodbyes, and first class meltdowns (ahem, Daniil Medvedev) so why not join Kim and Chris as they unpack all the drama from Flushing Meadows.Making the headlines, Australian Open champion Madison Keys’ surprise defeat to Renata Zarazua was the standout upset, as the American struggled with nerves and unforced errors in front of the home crowd. At the other end of the spectrum, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz opened their campaigns in style, with Djokovic overcoming the tricky up and comer Learner Tien whilst Alcaraz produced a near faultless win against big serving Reilly Opelka— though his new buzzcut stole plenty of headlines too. Is his brother to blame for a shocking buzz cut? Emma Raducanu also made waves, securing her first US Open win since her 2021 triumph, while Iga Swiatek maintained her blistering summer form with a commanding start. No bagels, but the New York bakery is open with a breadstick!Elsewhere, Venus Williams delighted Arthur Ashe Stadium in a three-set battle with Karolina Muchova, and the sport bid farewell to two beloved champions, Petra Kvitova and Caroline Garcia, who played their final matches. Add in Daniil Medvedev’s latest meltdown that had the team wondering whether he went too far this time and plenty of bold-prediction drama in the Tennis Weekly camp, Round 1 has certainly set the tone for a thrilling fortnight ahead.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 538Sinner struck by sickness, Swiatek sizzles in Cincy as Raducanu + Alcaraz take on US Open Mixed
It’s US Open lead-up week, which can only mean one thing… Mixed Doubles madness! But that’s not all — Cincinnati once again proved brutal, delivering one of the toughest two-week stretches on tour as players battled the sweltering Ohio heat and a wave of retirements. Jannik Sinner’s sudden illness handed Carlos Alcaraz his first Cincy crown, while Iga Swiatek overpowered Jasmine Paolini to reclaim the World No. 2 spot. Frenchman (and massive Pokémon fan) Terence Atmane enjoyed a dream run to the semi-finals, and Elena Rybakina put on a clinic against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, with coach Stefano Vukov now officially back on tour.We also dive into our first impressions of the revamped Mixed Doubles at Flushing Meadows — unpredictable, intriguing, and highlighted by a must-watch showdown between Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz versus Jack Draper and doubles-singles supremo Jessica Pegula. S1 Ep 531Wimbledon Day 13 - Swiatek dominates final as Anisimova suffers double bagel fate
It was a historic Ladies’ Final on Centre Court — but probably not in the way anyone imagined when the day began. Iga Swiatek is your Wimbledon champion after a jaw-dropping 57-minute double bagel over Amanda Anisimova, wrapping up her sixth Grand Slam title in ruthless style. It’s the first time we’ve seen a women’s final won 6-0, 6-0 since Steffi Graf crushed Natalia Zvereva at the 1988 French Open.Joel and Chris are here to break down exactly what went down in a match everyone thought would be much tighter. They’ll chat about what this win means for Swiatek’s season and why she’s just so unstoppable when it matters most at majors, having lost only two games across her semi-final and final at The Championships. And what about Anisimova? How does she pick herself up from such a tough loss — and can we expect to see her back on this stage anytime soon?Plus, there was even more history on the doubles court: Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool pulled off the first all-British men’s doubles title in 89 years. It’s Ladies’ Semifinals Day at Wimbledon — and it did not disappoint. Amanda Anisimova delivered one of the performances of the Championships, battling past World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a stunning upset. Join Joel and Chris as they break down why Sabalenka keeps stumbling at the business end of Grand Slams and unpack the remarkable story of Anisimova’s comeback after her mental health sabbatical. They also tackle the debate around Sabalenka’s so-called “dominance” — and whether ranking points alone tell the whole story. In the other semifinal, Iga Swiatek put on a ruthless clinic to dismantle Belinda Bencic and book her spot in her first Wimbledon final. The duo dig into what’s clicking in Swiatek’s grass-court game, whether she’s finally shed the “clay-court specialist” label, and how her experience in major finals could play a role against Anisimova, who’s about to contest her first. Day 10 at Wimbledon 2025 delivered thrilling quarterfinal action across the men’s and women’s singles draws. In the men’s quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic overcame a brief scare after slipping on match point to defeat Flavio Cobolli in four sets, 6-7, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4, earning his 14th Wimbledon semifinal appearance. Jannik Sinner, in commanding form despite earlier elbow issues, dispatched Ben Shelton 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 to set up a blockbuster semifinal against Djokovic. There was also a surprise retirement announce from another Italian - Fabio Fognini - on site after his whirlwind performance earlier in the tournament against Carlos Alcaraz. On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek reached her first Wimbledon semifinal with a solid win over Liudmila Samsonova, 6-2, 7-5. S1 Ep 527Wimbledon Day 9 - Alcaraz unplayable and into semifinals, Sabalenka learns her lesson
Quarterfinal action is underway, with the real Carlos Alcaraz delivering a Wimbledon masterclass on Centre Court to dispatch Great Britain’s Cam Norrie. Alcaraz will now face Taylor Fritz, who overcame a third-set stumble to defeat Karen Khachanov and reach his second Grand Slam semifinal in the last 12 months, climbing back to No. 4 in the live rankings. But is he too reliant on his canon of a serve? Meanwhile, electronic line-calling sparked more controversy when an errant ‘Fault!’ call disrupted a crucial point, adding to a growing list of technological mishaps this fortnight. On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka kept her quest for a maiden Wimbledon title alive with a dramatic, last-gasp win over grass-court specialist Laura Siegemund. Amanda Anisimova also booked her place in the semifinals — her first at a Grand Slam since 2019 — with a tense victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to continue her stellar season. Joel and Chris also look ahead to the second day of quarterfinals and get up to speed on all the fallout from the past 24 hours since Jannik Sinner and Grigor Dimitrov abruptly exited the court.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection and Pure Drive (2025) is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 526Wimbledon Day 8 - Sinner's lucky escape as Dimitrov retires, Andreeva comes of age
Day 8 delivered drama and breakthroughs at SW19. Join Joel and Kim as they wrap up the day’s proceedings at Tennis Weekly HQ. Novak Djokovic clawed back from a 1–6 opening set to defeat Alex de Minaur in four, sustaining his run toward a record 25th Major. Jannik Sinner, despite trailing two sets, advanced after Grigor Dimitrov heartbreakingly retired with a pectoral injury—a win Sinner called bittersweet. Meanwhile, Ben Shelton and Italy’s Flavio Cobolli secured their first-ever quarter-final spots with impressive victories over Lorenzo Sonego and Marin Čilić.On the women’s side, Belinda Bencic made a strong post-maternity return by upsetting seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova, Mirra Andreeva became the youngest quarter-finalist since 2007 with a compelling win over Emma Navarro, and Iga Świątek continued cruising past a below-par Clara Tauson. Liudmila Samsonova also sent the young Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro packing in two tight sets. They also look ahead to the start of the Quarterfinal action on Day 9 which sees home hope Cameron Norrie take on the two time defending Champion Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court, and Aryna Sabalenka up against tour veteran Laura Siegemund in the German’s first Grand Slam singles QF.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection and Pure Drive (2025) is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 525Wimbledon Day 7 - Alcaraz puts on Sunday best, Sabalenka roars on + Hawkeye chaos
Day 7 of Wimbledon and the quarterfinals are shaping up with Carlos Alcaraz defeating Andrey Rublev to extend his unbeaten run at Wimbledon to 18. He will face another tough test in Cam Norrie who won an epic in possibly the match of the championships against Nicolas Jarry in 5 sets on Court One. Needless to say home hope Cam will have to trade his favourite court one for Centre court to face the two time defending Champion in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. Also making it through to the quarterfinals stage is Karen Khachanov and Taylor Fritz. Fritz playing just 10 games before Jordan Thompson was forced to retire through injury. Fritz will be hoping to go one better and make the Wimbledon semifinals after bowing out at this stage last year to Lorenzo Musetti. On the women’s side, it is still very possible that another American woman might pick up a grand slam title after Amanda Anisimova set up match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who dashed British hopes by defeating Sonay Kartal despite the line calling system going down and going against the more seasoned competitor. World Number 1, Aryna Sabalenka who took out her former doubles partner Elise Mertens in round 4 and will face veteran Laura Siegemund in the quarters. Sabalenka will be hoping to add a Wimbledon title to her collection after missing the championships through injury last year. S1 Ep 524Wimbledon Day 6 - Djokovic dazzles to 100 wins, Swiatek swaggers to title contender
Century up! Wimbledon Day 6 is in the books — join Kim and Chris as they reflect on another milestone day for Novak Djokovic, who glided into the fourth round and notched his 100th match win at Wimbledon on Centre Court. Jannik Sinner also enjoyed a comfortable win, cruising past an injured Pedro Martinez, while Marin Cilic continued his strong grass-court form. Grigor Dimitrov reached his own milestone with his 100th Grand Slam match win, and the ever-consistent Alex De Minaur booked yet another second-week Slam appearance - he’s now reached the last 16 in 7 of the last 8 Slams. It was a dramatic day on the women’s side too, sparking debate among the team: is Iga Swiatek now the favourite from the bottom half of the draw to reach the final? And what’s with all the pasta and strawberries? There were tears as defending champion Barbora Krejcikova fell to Emma Navarro, guaranteeing an eighth consecutive new women’s champion at Wimbledon. Why is it so hard to defend the women’s title? The team weighs in. Meanwhile, hot favourite Elena Rybakina was also sent packing by Clara Tauson, seemingly unsettled by her No. 2 Court assignment. Should she have been on Centre or No. 1 Court — and should it have made a difference? Whilst teen sensation Mirra Andreeva breezed through to R4 to get the team thinking just how influential it is to have a previous champion in Conchita Martinez by your side.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 523Wimbledon Day 5 - Raducanu lights up Centre but Sabalenka survives, Alcaraz fights through
A blockbuster Friday for British tennis came to a close with Emma Raducanu producing one of her best performances since her US Open title run in 2021, pushing Aryna Sabalenka all the way in two tight sets under the Centre Court lights. Join Kim and Chris as they break down Raducanu’s display, what it means now that she’ll drop to British No. 3, and whether the match was a good advert for women’s night sessions (ahem, Amélie Mauresmo and Roland Garros). It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Brits either, as Cam Norrie and Sonay Kartal continued their strong form to book spots in the fourth round. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz survived a stern test from the powerful Jan-Lennard Struff to avoid another five-set battle, while Taylor Fritz added another four-set win to his tally — and this time was able to actually wrap things up in broad daylight.Ben Shelton needed just over a minute to complete perhaps the quickest overnight return at Wimbledon, sealing victory against Rinky Hijikata in just over 60 seconds. There was disappointment for big names too, with Australian Open champion Madison Keys falling meekly with illness a factor and Naomi Osaka suffering an agonising defeat, missing a golden chance for a deep Slam run. History was made, though, as lucky loser Solana Sierra became the first female lucky loser ever to reach Wimbledon’s fourth round.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 522Wimbledon Day 4 - Draper down as Swiatek & Sinner roll on, Djokovic's Monte Carlo revenge
Day 4 of Wimbledon 2025 delivered high drama, standout performances and a deflating day for the Brits. Jack Draper lost out to veteran Marin Cilic who rolled back the years and reminded us just why he is a Grand Slam champion and a former Wimbledon finalist. It leaves Jack Draper once again coming unstuck against a 10/10 opponent and not quite living up to the hype at Majors which the gang discuss. Novak Djokovic also showed no signs of slowing down as he defeated Britain’s Dan Evans convincingly, exacting revenge on that Monte Carlo reverse in 2021. Does he look the best he has done in his quest for Grand Slam 25? Quite possibly. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner also cruised past Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets. In the women’s draw, Iga Swiatek (and resident Wimbledon towel thief) staged a strong comeback against Caty McNally, and defending champion Barbora Krejcikova advanced after a tough battle with Caroline Dolehide. Elena Rybakina and rising star Mirra Andreeva also booked spots in the third round with Joel assessing the teen queen's chances on grass after she stated earlier in the year that the surface is her least favourite. We also look ahead to the epic showdown of Sabalenka vs. Raducanu and wonder just how much can the British crowd try and get into the Belarusian's head as the third round kicks off.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 521Wimbledon Day 3 - Raducanu magic sets up Sabalenka test, Alcaraz ends Tarvet dream
Rain may have dampened the grounds at the All England Club early on Wednesday, but it did little to quell the drama as Wimbledon 2025’s Day 3 served up upsets, star performances, and homegrown triumphs. Centre Court was abuzz as Emma Raducanu delivered a commanding performance against 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova. With aggressive baseline play and composure under pressure, Raducanu sealed a 6-3, 6-3 victory to book her spot in Round 3—reaffirming her form and igniting hopes of a bit of a run on home turf. Next up, the World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.Joining her in advancing was fellow Brit Cameron Norrie, who battled past 12th seed Frances Tiafoe in four sets, showcasing grit and shot-making under pressure. Meanwhile, young wildcard Oliver Tarvet, though defeated by defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, earned admiration with a spirited showing in front of a supportive home crowd. The day also brought surprises, with fourth seed Jasmine Paolini crashing out at the hands of Kamilla Rakhimova which means that four of the top five women's seeds are out inside three days (!). Another Brit hopeful, Katie Boulter was also edged out in disappointing fashion by Solana Sierra, an Argentinian lucky loser.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 520Wimbledon Day 2 - Gauff grass woes, Djokovic defies seed exodus and Kvitova's last goodbye
It’s been another long, hot day at Wimbledon with the fans on Centre Court and No. 1 Court. Join Joel and Kim as they discuss Sinner opening with some serious serving stats whilst Draper made light work of Baez who still hasn’t won a tour level grass match since Eastbourne 2023. They also get to the bottom of the beef that broke Round 1 between Fritz and Perricard and just why their match was stopped last night and whether that was the right decision. However the seed exodus continued with last year’s semifinalist Lorenzo Musetti and Halle champ Alexander Bublik suffering surprise defeats along with Alexander Zverev whose poor showings at Wimbledon continues. On the women’s side, French Open champion Coco Gauff suffered another early exit at the hands of dangerous Dayan Yastremska. Defending champion Barbora Krejickova overcame a slow start against up and coming Alexandra Eala in three sets but two-time former champion Petra Kvitova made her final Wimbledon bow in defeat to Emma Navarro. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Americans as recent Bad Homburg champion (and avid Call of Duty gamer) Jessica Pegula was dismissed along with Queen’s semi finalist Qinwen Zheng. They also unveil the gang’s Collect a Set predictions for the tournament and look ahead to Day 3 with Carlos Alcaraz returning against Britain’s newest surprise package Oliver Tarvet.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 519Wimbledon Day 1 - Alcaraz survives surprise scare as Raducanu thrives with box office Brits
Feeling hot, hot, hot! Wimbledon Day 1 is in the books, so why not join Joel and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ to catch up on all the action from an enthralling opening day’s play. Carlos Alcaraz had everyone sweating — and not just because of the weather — as he battled through a scratchy five-set win over Italian veteran Fabio Fognini, who hadn’t won on the ATP Tour since October. The Brits also had a ball on Day 1, with a record seven players already through to Round 2. This included the top three British women — Raducanu, Boulter, and Kartal — with Boulter and Kartal both upsetting higher-seeded opponents in Badosa and former Grand Slam champion Ostapenko. The fairytale run of Oliver Tarvet continued too, as he set up a blockbuster Round 2 clash with Alcaraz — though he won’t be able to keep any of his prize money. There were sad scenes as former finalist Ons Jabeur retired, announcing she would ‘disconnect’ from tennis for now. Two-time semifinalist and recent Halle finalist Daniil Medvedev also bowed out unexpectedly. Meanwhile, Sabalenka and Gauff put their recent animosity behind them… with a TikTok dance. Join us as we look ahead to Day 2, with Sinner, Draper, and Djokovic all headlining the action!BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their Wimbledon collaboration collection is available to purchase now from babolat.com SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. S1 Ep 518Wimbledon Draw Reaction - Alcaraz in 'easy' half, Draper despair and Gauff's rough route
Wimbledon! The Championships are upon once again with a lot to live up to after THAT dramatic finale at Roland Garros. Join the gang at Tennis Weekly HQ as they react to the men's and women's draws, dish out some dodgy predictions and unveil Collect a Set player picks. On the men's side, the question on everyone's lips might be will we get another edition of the Carlos Alcaraz - Jannik Sinner rivalry? Joel's not so sure and whilst Carlitos has been handed a pretty routine draw on paper, Jannik Sinner got some trick battles including a potential all Italian quarterfinal with Lorenzo Musetti, last year's semifinalist. Great British hope Jack Draper also got dealt a nightmarish draw with both his French Open conqueror Alexander Bublik and Queen's conqueror Jakub Mensik in his section along with Novak Djokovic who has been in the last SIX Wimbledon finals. On the women's side, can Aryna Sabalenka finally get over the finish line and win a Grand Slam title this season? In her way is a potential R3 showdown with Britain's Emma Raducanu or former champion Market Vondrousova who got the better of her recently in Berlin. French Open champion Coco Gauff also may have hoped for a kinder draw with a tricky opening against Nottingham finalist Yastremska with Rybakina and Swiatek lurking close by. The team also discuss prize money as Britain's Oliver Tarvet will NOT be allowed to claim his prize money of at least £66,000 due to still being in college in America.
