Choosing Love with Director Aitch Alberto

On this episode of Tamarindo, we kick off Latino and Latine Heritage Month with Miami-raised writer and director Aitch Alberto. Her new film “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe”is out now. Among her many accolades, Aitch was featured on Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch for 2022 and Indiewire’s 22 Rising Female Filmmakers to Watch in 2022. She is a Sundance Episodic Lab fellow. We chat about the beautiful coming-of-age film and the universal themes it explores. We discuss the common struggles of adolescence like self-discovery, identity, and acceptance, to explorations of masculinity through a Latino/Latine lens. As the writers' and actors guild strikes continue, supporting Latino and Latine films is more important than ever. We encourage everyone to watch this film and uplift everyone involved. We also reflect on our matracas of the summer after a long break giving a special shoutout to Raizado, an ideas and culture festival produced by The Latinx House with Monica Ramirez and Olga Segura at the helm. The four day event featured Latinx actors and cultural and social change makers, including politicians, philanthropists, business owners, and community advocates and closed with an open community day at a local park.
