Does that read like a headline? It should. The title speaks for itself. Rules of Acquisition Pt2 (and final) is here, and Scopely has not disappointed in their ability to channel their inner Ferengi. Let's be clear, there are several potentially GOOD things this arc. I will reserve judgement until we're able to see more. But from right out the gate, there's a thing or two that is most certainly and clearly BAD. And one of them is that Scopely has quite literally enacted it's first TAX on the game as it pertains to raiding. Why was this done? What was the logic? Tonight, the wounds of RoA Pt 1 were reopened, salt poured in, and then rebandaged in sandpaper. HOWEVER, players found some shining moments this arc and we found time to discuss those as well. The feesha was obviously the big topic, and the perspectives battled on whether the ship was a f2p savior, or a colossal waste of time. Scopely's consideration for players during international crisis was applauded loudly, and week 3 modifications to events were praised. So, was this arc quite AS BAD as we originally may have thought? Week 3 started out not bad. Changes to Latinum Rush were problematic in some areas, but we expected them to be a little rough starting out with the balance of the Feesha's mining speeds. The fact that there's a staple event with some tinkering and modernization is good. We also saw modifications to the Ferengi Recruiting event, and a surprise SMS and SLB with some pretty incredible rewards! Fillin Friday launched an Armada Damage SLB, and on the surface, it doesn't look bad. Damage for armadas dictates uncommon usage, but days 2 and 3 of this SLB run along side the Quark Strength event for Rares and Epics. Scoring has synergy and I won't complain about that. But, there are still obvious problems, and they AREN'T from the completion ability of this event, but rather, the logistics. Dumping the entire galaxy into Romulan space, the scoring for Ops 20-22, and the decision to use Klingon Conquest out of context for how it was written all contribute to even MORE community frustrations tonight. We've been preparing for this show for a couple of months now, and today was the day. Today was the day we introduced you to Talia, a 14 year old diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Talia's family was nominated to be our 'Angel Family' this year, to receive funding from Talking Trek to make sure that not only Talia, but her 3 little sisters got a Christmas, despite the family's struggles over the past year. More importantly, 4 changes were identified that Scopely ACTUALLY modified, and most players didn't notice. We break down the roadmap again for players who missed the August episode, give you the ideal crews to use depending on the capabilities of your vidar, and talk about the future implications of the megacube events. There were some clear break points in satisfaction with these SMS. For example, MOST players Ops 39 and down are THRILLED with the opportunity at a full unlock WITHOUT having to dump millions of points into an auction where they could be sniped at the last second. Players in the upper 40's view it as a sign of relief, almost a "discount" of sorts, because their auction prices would go significantly higher than Scopely is asking them to pay. However, players in the low to mid 40's, are feeling the pressure as common material walls, and the NEW adjustment for them from G3 to G4 is still in the early stages. Facts are, players control their own destiny. An officer has a clear and defined objective price to unlock. And unlike an auction, you know where your spend gets you. Despite early rabble about high milestones, upon calm reflection, perhaps this isn't all bad? DJz sits back and let's the community duke this one out as we turn to each corner, and find F2P wildly in favor of this mechanic, and light spenders feeling the impossible. This is a great listen and some great insight into what other players face on a monthly basis with upgrades and materials spend.
