Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Episode 59 - If They Cut You, Never Let Them See You Bleed

2021 is here and we survived to tell the tale. Tailer Trash Fly Fishing resumed its tradition of storytelling and unedited reporting on the latest and often not so greatest underbelly of fly fishing culture and entertainment. Joining us around the Old Oak Table in the Tailer Park was none other than Ted McGregor (@tedmcgreezy / @camp.mcgregor) of “Do You Even Double Haul, Bro?” fame. Ben Pickett (@el_mucho_pescado) gets us started with his wrap-up of 2020. Ted and Marc Ziegler (@mziegler54) ease us into the New Year with a couple of stories of their most recent trips on Mosquito Lagoon. We rewind it back to 2020 for a moment to talk about proper fish handling and the art of keeping them wet with Ted and Larry Littrell (@saltbum) before we turn it loose and the chat takes on its normal ebb and flow across a range of topics. Ted updates us on a couple of the recent @anchored_outdoors Masters Classes he’s completed / started on Spey Casting and Bamboo Rod Building, If you haven’t signed up for a membership yet, you should! During our most recent visit from the Mail Barge, we received a Lid Rig - Magnetic Nipper System (@lidrig) to check out. Everyone at the Old Oak Table had the opportunity to examine it and opine on what their initial thoughts were on its design and function. If you haven’t yet seen a Lid Rig (www.lidrig.com), check them out! Carl Granger (@so_bursted) and Larry share a bit about the low budget restoration of the 1986 Hobie Power Skiff that just started calling the Space Coast home. As always, there’s plenty of other nonsense buried throughout the episode, we hope it challenges your thoughts or at minimum gets a laugh or two. For now, Stay Trashy or Stay Huge – It’s your choice. Don’t forget to check the T2F2 web store on occasion, we’re adding new merch for 2021.

Episode 57 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Listen More & Get Noticed

Fresh off of a great Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving holiday, the Tailer Trash Fly Fishing crew gather around the Old Oak Table yet again to dispense more of their opinions on anything from fly fishing to Christmas shopping. One segment you'll not want to miss was inspired by Casting Across. More belly aching about the current state of the imperiled estuary known as Mosquito Lagoon. It sucks, tell your friends. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to visit our website and purchase Tailer Trash inspired shirts, hats & gear.

Episode 56 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Truth Be Told

We start the show with a call to action in hopes of preserving and protecting a dying American road trip pastime. We hope you'll join us in the effort. We wrap up the Dinghy Derby & Poker Run - An event that has left us with nothing but admiration for our listeners and supporters who made it possible to continue supporting the critical work being done by Marine Discovery Center on behalf of Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Lagoon restoration and community education. We close the loop on the Box Challenge we first talked about nearly a year ago. While we recognize our role in the fly fishing realm isn't that of influencers, we hope to share our personal experiences with gear in a way that you'll learn something about the differences in marketing and reality so you can apply the lessons we've learned in a way that helps you avoid our same mistakes. Buyer beware! Did you know our podcast was featured on a recent cover of the online mullet wrapper, Southern Culture on the Fly? We tell you all about it, like only assholes can! We wrap up with another awesome visit from the Mail Barge.

Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Episode 55 - Kick The Tires & Light The Fire

A lot is going on, so we dive straight into the biggest news story of the day, the pending election. We don’t have a suggestion for you on who you vote for, that’s your choice. We do, however have some thoughts on elements within fly fishing and companies in the industry who are using the election to divide us as anglers. We think it sucks. Carl catches us up on the progress being made on the skiff build with Jamieson. It leads to a good deal of skiff talk. Andrew joins us for a segment to help tell the story of Peacocking with Ben in South Florida. He also reveals the discovery of a cove filled with tailing carp in Middle Tennessee. Ted joins us to talk logistics, it’s what he does. He shares how his first summer in the Gaspe` wrapped up at Camp McGregor and includes his experience with the Anchored Outdoors’ April Vokey master class on spey casting. If you are considering signing up, which we recommend, please consider using the link on our website. (We get a little beer money if you do!) The big topic with Ted is of course the 2020 Dinghy Derby & Poker Run. If you’re far, far away and still have an interest in supporting the cause, you can donate via the Venmo listed over on the Tailer Trash Fly Fishing website. We’re looking forward to November 7, 2020. We can’t wait to meet a lot of you and raise as much money as possible to support Marine Discovery Center.

Hope you enjoy the white noise, the frogs seemed to...

Episode 52 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Everything That Matters

Episode 52 is rare matinee session in the Tailer Park. High on Velveeta cheese based queso dip, the full cast of malcontents discuss a wide ranging number of topics. A review / recommendation on the Mill House Podcast & Flip’s YouTube Channel somehow leads to one of our longer shows in a while. Sit back, keep an open mind and listen along as four guys in a double wide trailer solve the world’s problems and opine on everything that matters.

Aug 24, 20202h 53m

Episode 51 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Hurricane Watch

To start the evening off, Ben shares his best pick-up strategies at home improvement stores. Make sure you’re prepared to take notes! Marc and Larry share a little bit about their recent fly fishing foray in the NIRL. Larry recaps his trip to East Tennessee, where he fished with Robert King from The South Holston River Fly Shop. As the water quality plunges to something akin to chocolate milk in most of Mosquito Lagoon, the conversation turns to the difference between areas where guides self-police their ranks and how they value and advocate on behalf of the waters where they work and those that don’t. A T2F2 episode wouldn’t be complete without some observations on recent social media, so true to form Nautilus Fly Reel’s recent visit to the White House and the subsequent fall out on Instagram is examined in detail. A deadline for the Tailer Park Fly Fishing Film Festival is set for the end of August. The Yard Sale is open! As Frank Bartles would say; “…and thank you for your support.” A big thanks to Leslin O. for her support of the podcast by sending the Mail Barge by laden with some sweet Montana brews.

Episode 50 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Jack & Blue

We’re a little giddy over the fact that we’ve reached Episode 50 of the podcast. If you’ve listened from the beginning, you know it’s actually more than that, but who’s counting… Unfortunately, Carl was a victim of the weather, a stomach bug or something, so he missed the festivities. Andrew was able to join us remotely from Tennessee, which was great, he’s been a part of the podcast from before the rebellion to Episode Zero and beyond. Actual fly fishing was discussed / lies were told to reminisce about recent outings around Mosquito Lagoon and the beaches of the panhandle. Piña Coladas lead to a teachable moment regarding “The Walk of Shame” vs. “The Walk of Fame”. We reviewed: Pabst Blue Ribbon Presents: The Greatest Beer Run Ever Episode 50’s pre-show dinner was prepared on the new Fire Disk & we share our initial thoughts on how it performs. The Mail Barge paid a visit to the Tailer Park to bring news regarding #PopperGate Don’t forget to visit the Bilge to get Larry Littrell’s review of Aaron Reed’s new book, Fly Fishing Austin and Central Texas. When you do, sign up for a chance to win a free copy. As always, there’s more to discover in the episode. Enjoy & Stay Trashy

Jul 12, 20202h 5m

Episode 49 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - International Incident

Along with the Saharan dust cloud, stifling heat blanketed the Tailer Park, so we left the Traeger tucked away and opted for pizza from the best joint in NSB for a pre-show meal. Marc is on vacation, so Jameison joined us to help keep the Old Oak Table balanced. We were stoked to get to meet his new red boned hound, Waylon; and we're pretty sure he liked podcast night too. Larry ran through some of his recent fly fishing adventures and mis-adventures in South FL and the Keys for peacock bass, bonefish and snapper. Ted joined us for an update from north of the border and to answer listener questions about random Canadiana. Before we wrapped up, the conversation turned into a planning and strategy session that could very well lead to an international incident. We wrap up shortly after a quick round table of the usual nonsense and a review of the first submission received for the Tailer Park Fly Fishing Film Festival. jO9PwUfYWwwDcXVqzFBu

We catch up with what has been happening in their life over the past year, talk safety on the water and take our typical serpentine path through fly fishing through the balance of the episode. Episode 46 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - Jawbreaker

Turns out there is light at the end of the Carlrona tunnel. To be prepared for the return to normalcy, we convened a meeting in the Tailer Park to restore order to the beer fridge and to gorge on tasty treats fresh off the Traeger. Once we were tuned up, we kicked around our thoughts and experiences about the non-pandemic pandemic, one-way shopping lanes and our hopes for the future. On the conservation front, we discuss a recent "Everglades" call to action that is devoid of details but big on hype. Apparently, it pays well to gaslight certain causes... We also flesh out what the Tailer Park Fly Fishing Film Festival hopes to see in submissions. We hope that you and your squad are planning to share your adventures with us. Get on it, your assignment is due no later than July 31st, 2020. https://tailertrash.com/news/tailer-park-fly-fishing-film-festival-call-for-artists/ As usual, there's more grandstanding and nonsense in the episode. We even tell a fishing story or two...

Episode 43 - Tailer Trash Fly Fishing - "Carlrona Quarantine"

The boys are already skilled at distancing themselves from the real world, so meeting up in the Tailer Park for grilled meat and cold beer only seemed natural in the face of the current pandemic. With topics ranging from Larry’s pajamas, finding the end of YouTube and the moral and ethical questions of whether or not to catch and release into hot grease, the conversation covers a good bit of ground. Listener questions were answered – thanks to everyone that took the time to call! Also buried in the episode is an opportunity to support 239 Flies & Outfitters and get a discount while doing so.
