in 1989, The Cure released their 8th studio album, which contained their biggest chart success so far, the #2 smash, "Lovesong". But The Cure didn't instantly win everyone over. The record company executives were concerned that they were committing "commercial suicide" and that the band's enigmatic lead singer, Robert Smith, was being "willfully obscure". However, after the release of the album the fans overwhelmingly agree that is was a dark masterpiece and the band's greatest achievement.
